Work remotely from a Windows box

I have a user who needs to work remotely on my office machine (snow leopard server) in the same way I use screen sharing to connect from another Mac. Is this possible? If so, how?
Thanks in advance

The best will be the free Microsoft client.
Remote Desktop Connection Client 2.1
This free download runs natively on Intel-based Macs only.

• Can i remote from my windows desktop into my ios 7

Am I able to use a remote application, such as Teamview from my windows 8 OS to IOS 7 macbook pro?  Thank you.

Gail thank you so much.  First to the gentleman who corrected me inappropriately.  I am a newbie to the Apple Family/ World.  I am a newbie senior adult to the technical terms.
I own a 15" MacBook Pro my operating system is Lion  Vs 7.
I am familiar with remoting into my Windows 8 desktop ( utilizing TeamViewer free remote program).  I have a friend who purchased  a MacBookPro and wanted to remote from my Windows desktop into their Mac for tech support.  I.e. setting up the Apple Setting Preferences.
SInce I am unfamiliar with remoting Mac-to-Mac ....I reached out to this forum.   I sincerely appreciate the quick feedback.
Again ......Thx Gail from Maine...., I'm interested in any and all tutorials!

• Airport Express used to receive music from a Windows box?

Can an Airport Express be connected to speakers and receive music files wirelessly from a Windows computer with iTunes on it?
Thanks.

in theory yes... i have an ibook, mac mini and xp box... of course the ibook and mac mini see and play music effortlessly through speakers plugged in to the airport express... the confounded windows box sees the speakers but when i select them from the drop down menu in iTunes, it attempts to connect but comes back with base station not compatible with this version of iTunes... i really think it is a windows "problem" but APPLE pitches this product as windows compatible and was "sold" on the we will support it pitch from apple store but have received no satisfaction to that end as of yet... if i have to i am going to bring the xp box in to the apple genius and let them have a go.. i started an informal survey re: this issue in an earlier post to see if ANYONE has successfully made this work on windows box... oddly enough or should i say not odd at all NO positive reponses!

• Run a batch file from separate windows box to invoke DRM batch client

I need your suggestions on the following.
ODI & DRM are installed on separate boxes.
Now I want ODI to invoke a batch file (kept on DRM - Windows box, this batch file invokes DRM batch client to export the metadata). I tried using shared folder concept, but no success.
Any pointers please?

This should work for you-
Create a batch file on your current server (ODI) and write in the path to the other batch file on the other server.
//Server2completename/D$/Path/yourbatchfile.bat
From ODI call your batch file that you created on the same machine.. which will inturn call the other batch file on a different machine to execute batch client.
Also can you paste the errors that you may be getting.. need to check if you are getting any specific issue related to this.
Thanks

• How do I show remote printers in Windows 2012 RDWEB?

Hi everyone,
I have setup an Windows 2012 RDS host and am able to access it externally by using https://remote.domain.com/rdweb.
Therefore I can log in and launch remote apps.
Local printers get redirected, but I do not seem to be able to see the remote printers on the RDS server.
The printer is installed and it is installed on the server.
What if I want to print on the server printer rather than my own printer?
How to get to show the printers in the RDWEB page?
I do not get control panel, select device and printers here.
Can someone enlighten me on this?
Thanks very much.
Regards
Ipnotech

Hi,
Any takers for this question?
When I use internet explorer to access the Windows 2012 r2 RDS server by typing https://remote.domain.com/rdweb, I get to logon and can see all my published apps and launch them.
But when I print from a remote app I can only see my own redirected printers I cannot see the network printer which is installed on the server.
I tried to change group policy under Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Printer Redirection and set:
Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session ENABLED
Use Remote Desktop Easy Printer Driver first ENABLED
Redirect only the default client printer ENABLED
Then I run a gpupdate /force on the RDS host to apply the policy to the server.
When I connect remotely from a Windows 7 client using IE and lets say I launch the wordpad remote app I can only see my client printers not the server printers.
This seems to work if I RDP into the server with mstsc.exe but not using RDWEB.
Does anyone know about this?
Thanks and regards

• I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on my desktop.  Can I also load into onto my laptop for working remotely with the same serial number?

I use Adobe Pro on my desktop daily at the office and now will be handling work remotely from a laptop as well.  Adobe Pro is essential for my work (bates stamping, redaction, advanced editing, etc). Can I use the same serial number and installation disc to load this on my laptop?  There are no instructions that speak to this issue and I know other programs I have installed provided for both desktop and laptop access.  It isn't like I am giving use of this product to another user or pirating it, so I can't foresee an issue. Any information is much appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi rebekah,
Adobe End User License Agreement entitles you to install a singe retail license on 2 computers at any instance.
So you can load Acrobat 9 license on the other computer too.

• Launched from a windows command line

If my labview app is run remotely from a windows command line, is there any way to tell programmatically from a variable somewhere that it was launched by another app and not by the operator manually launching the app itself ?

Hello id,
If you have control over the application that's invoking your exe through the command line, I'd suggest using a simple custom argument that is passed to the application per this KnowledgeBase:
KnowledgeBase 1CNFGHFI: Passing Command Line Arguments to a LabVIEW Executable
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/17C3AD70493CE0208625666A00763364
You would then use the App.Args property (Application:Command Line Arguments Property) to check for your "this launched from the command line via this other application" argument, whatever it might be. I would suggest that you should only need to check for *any* arguments, if they're present then you know it's been launched via the command line. The argument could just be the name of the calling application.  If you're unable to insert arguments via the invoking application, you could also use a one-line batch file that's installed with the target EXE to do the same thing (you'd run the batch file instead of the executable from the invoking application).
Determining where an application was invoked from without sending it that information explicitly is another, trickier problem- there are plenty of discussions on stackexchange and elsewhere detailing possible solutions, but if the invoked application (your EXE) isn't owned by the command prompt process I'm not sure it's possible.  There are a few mentions of checking environment variables that the command prompt usually sets to see if they've been configured, but I have no experience with this.
Best Regards,

• Working Remotely? Here's What You Need!

You probably have a friend, family member, or coworker that has been given the opportunity to work remotely from home full-time with their company. With today’s technology, it’s becoming increasingly more possible for companies to provide such an opportunity. Of course, there are some things that are needed to work remotely as an integrated part of the company, and a few others that would make your tasks far easier.

• Remote Desktop Connection from a Windows 8.1 laptop to a work PC using Windows 7

Hi!
I posted this question in the MS Community forums and they redirected me here... I searched the forums here but didn't find anything that helped with my problem. So here is my original question (posted originally here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-networking/remote-desktop-connection-to-a-work-pc/5fa25045-de24-4a7c-9c8e-caf9ce17e444):
For the past few weeks, I've been trying to set up a VPN connection to my work PC so I can work from home.
Work PC runs on Windows 7 (I assume Pro, but I can't confirm at the moment).
Home laptop runs on Windows 8.1 (the laptop came with Windows 8 already installed, so I assume it's the standard, or Home, edition. I manually upgraded to 8.1).
Now, after many migraines and sleepless nights fiddling with settings, the VPN connection works. However, what prevents me from completing the connection is Remote Desktop Connection.
Here's the error I get:
"Remote Desktop can't find the computer "<computer name>". This might mean that "<computer name>" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to."
Note:
- I DO have the correct computer name. I have a working connection to my work PC from my personal desktop PC (running XP), though I sometimes need to travel and a laptop is much more practical to carry around than a PC... ;)
The VPN Connection Wizard never asked me to enter my destination PC username and password (so my work Windows credentials). Why?
Any ideas as to why Remote Desktop doesn't want to connect?
Any suggestions as to what I can try to fix the problem?
Thank you for all the help!
Julie

Are you able to ping the remote system by name? It sounds as though you are connecting to VPN but are unable to resolve the names of the host network. A few things that I would think of:
If the home system is not on a domain and the work system is, you may need to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). For example, instead of
computer you would enter computer.domain.com.
You may want to check if your VPN connection is configured as a default gateway, otherwise if your home and VPN network have the same IP address range you may be experiencing a conflict.
See the instructions provided here.
You also may want to check the DNS settings for the VPN connection to ensure that it is finding the DNS server for the remote network and thus is able to resolve the hostname.
You may want to try connecting Remote Desktop via IP address to determine if the issue is with name resolution (DNS) or connectivity.

1. Can we use response file on linx, which was produced on windows OS?
I have gone thru the link (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/upgrade.1111/e10125/ua_command_line.htm#ASMAS149) to execute below steps using CLI.
1. We have to upgrade oim9.1's oim schema by running "MW_HOME/Oracle_IDM1/bin/ua.sh" to upgrade oim schema.

• I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine and having issues

I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine.  It says "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections".
My first stop in trying to solve this problem was here:
howtogeek.com
And it says:

This problem happens because Windows only allows two remote terminal services connections when you are in administrative mode, and you’ve either got two people already on that server, or more likely, you’ve got a disconnected session that still thinks
it is active.
The problem with this error is that you have to actually get on the server console to fix the problem if the server isn’t in a domain. (If you are in a domain, then just open Terminal Services Manager and log off or disconnect the sessions)

So it seems to suggest that all I have to do really is to run the  Terminal Services Manager but I cannot find it.
This web site from mssqltips.com (click here) says all I need to do is first execute "mstsc /
admin" from the command line.  But, when I do that, I get a message when I try to remote to the server, that says this: "To log on to this remote console session, you must have administrative permissions on this computer".
So, what now?  What do you suggest?

Hi Bobby,
Yes, it is by design. By default, Windows Server only accepts two concurrent administrative sessions (Administrative Mode). It means that only two administrators can work on the server at
the same time.
If you would like more concurrent sessions, you need to purchase RDS CALs, install Terminal Services related server roles with proper configurations on the server.

• How do I access my iMac remotely when working away from the office?

I work away from the office for much of the time.  How can I access my iMac remotely?

Unless this is critcal for some reason I would not do this.  Unless you understand all the techinolticcal pit falls you can leave your computer dangerusly exposed doing this.  If you are not technical your best bet is going to be to get a wireless router with built in VPN support ($200 - $500) to give you a secure connection home.  And then you will need the Apple Remote Desktop app ($90 I think) and even then it will only work if your work compute is also a Mac.  There are probably other comerial apps that will let you remote into your Mac desktop on windows but will probably be in the $200 price range.

• I want to use my DVD from my WIndows 7 Computer to install Office 2011 for Mac.  How do I make this work?

I want to install Mac Office from my DVD drive located on my Windows 7 computer.  How do I make this work?

Well, it sounds as though you are trying to install Windows software on a Mac computer.
If that's really what you want to do, you have another project to do first. You could use Apple's Boot Camp software or 3rd party software such as Parallels or VMWare. If so, you have some reading and research to do.
Or maybe you are trying to use Remote Disc? Here is a link to using Remote Disc for Windows:

• I need to connect to my work PC remotely from my macbook. I think I need the citrix software. But which version and what is the procedure?

I need to connect to my work PC remotely from my macbook. I think I need the citrix software. But which version and what is the procedure?

Probably don't need citrix software. Is you computer in the office on LAN? Also, is the office computer setup for remote access? If it's windows then its going to be running Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) natively. If it is in fact RDP that your windows machine at work is using then you need to download RDC for mac. I use it to connect to my work computer using RDP (don't tell the "Info Tech" dude at my office) and if your not too tech savvy I would suggest trying GOTOMYPC. It's alot easier to setup. But if you have experience in setting up remote access and your Windows office machine is connected through LAN and your IT TECH has allowed port forwarding then you should be just fine with RDP and it's free!!! But are you logging onto your actual computer at work or logging into the "SERVER" through your work machine... believe me it's two completely different things.
Basically, you'll need:
1. Physichal IP address of work computer. (If office computer is on WIFI this won't work) use IPCONFIG commands in command prompt
2. Port forwarding needs to be enabled by your IT Tech
3. Remote Desktop settings will need to be enabled on the office computer
4. Download RDC for mac (search google)
5. Type the physical IP address into RDC and hit connect... type in credentials and your all done.
We need lots more details though... there are many ways to connect remotely and if your office already has a system in place for remote access then any details would be helpful in determining which method will suit you best. If it's citrix just have your IT dude set it up. If you think you need citrix then good luck....
