Workaround to have tasks/to-dos and notes/memos in iphone?

I'm a longtime Palm OS user but am contemplating a switch to the new iPhone. As a Palm user, I rely heavily on to-dos (tasks) and memos (notes). I sync my Treo with two different computers and update content both on the Treo and on Palm Desktop.
I see from the discussions that there's no to-do application on the iPhone and no way to sync notes.
What workarounds do iPhone owners use for creating and syncing to-do lists and notes? And, if there are Palm-to-iPhone converts out there, how does your iPhone workaround compare with the Palm experience?
Thanks very much.

I posted this on another thread, but hoping to get more feedback here.
For a few months now I've had the iphone. Had previously used Palm desktop and a Palm III (ancient, I know) but it all worked! I could do a GLOBAL search of the Palm database for any address, any phone #, any calendar item or note category, and quickly FIND IT on either the desktop or the Palm III. This is "must have"
stuff for a service business in the field.
On the iphone, so far it isn't possible to cut and past, search, or integrate the address book search with a search in ical or the other databases. The point of having the iphone is that it syncs to my mac so I don't have to haul the laptop around. All the enterprise features with a microsoft server and push technology is overkill for me. It seems that if the OSX environment were integrated on the iphone as on the desktop, with the addition of notes and to dos, it would serve well for any small business.
My service business is SMALL. I have about 1,000 contacts and 8 years of calendar.
Wondering if the upgrade will include better integration? Oh, and while we're at it, why not voice recognition and a movie/audio recording app. Standard features for any smart phone, no?
