- How to make a copy of Bex workbook using a program/FM
- How to take back up of workbooks
- How to compare a workbook in production with same workbook in developemnt to ensure both are in sync with same content.

For your first two questions i have same answer and process

Open the workbook which you want to copy..Just save as with the different namespace..Same way as we do for copying the queries in query designer.
Backup can also be taken in the similar fashion,it is nothing but again copying the workbook.

Hi,
Its good that u pasted the complete log file. In your environment you have to run this upgrade tool only once from any of the middle tier.
And with respect to your error that u got in precheck is quite simple. All u have to do is just run this script from by connecting to portal schema using sqlplus.
Run dropupg.sql
Location-------- /raid/product/OraHome_1/upgrade/temp/portal/prechktmp/dropupg.sql
Later you re-run the upgrade tool and let me know the status.

Copying & comparing File Content

I have Written a java code, which is taking the content of one file and copying it in to another file, by replacing its content. I want that to get appended in the file I am copying it in. I want to compare each line of first file to the second .txt file. And if it seems to be the same, then discard that line but copies all other line.

I would like to copy and paste the content from an excel file to another empty new document using automator, which I created a workflow like below
get specific finder item
open excel workbook
select cell from excel workbook (all content)
obtain selected content from workbook
copy to pasteboard the content of excel workbook
close the excel workbook
create new excel workbook
paste copyboard content to excel workbook
can anyone kindly suggest what's wrong with this workflow?

now it only does one file at a time, whereas I would like to do multiple files simultaneously.
If you try a search for "loop Automator" and also "folder actions" you may find some usable pointers on how to do that. The first example on this page looks promising.

Remove workbook template after migration

Hi @ll,
we have migrated all our workbooks fom 3.5 --> 7.0. In 7.0 we have created a new workbook template. How can I remove the old template from the workbook and replace it with the new one?

Hi Sunil,
As mentioned earlier, the problem is not with refresh. Its with loosing the format after the refresh. As a background, someone from my company had formatted all the 3.1 workbooks using Excel formatting options and they made few settings so that they won't loose the existing custom format. It worked well in 3.1. Now when migrated, the issue has started. When migrated to 7.0. style, the format is there.
It won't let you do anything unless u refresh the workbook with new variable values.
Once refreshed, the custom format disappears.
As a temporary solution, we are migrating the workbooks, copy each worksheet and perform a paste special on new worksheet. Then refresh the workbook(now we see a workbook without the custom formatting). Then copy the format(which was pasted earlier using 'paste special') and paste it on the refreshed workbook.
Then we have used 7.0 setting to keep the custom format.
So my issue is, we just want the format to be unlost even after the refresh(the first refresh) in 7.0.

DDE performance degradation is down in Office 2013 as compare to previous versions.

I am running my C++ application on windows 8.1 with office 2013. My application basically communicate with Excel 2013 using windows DDE protocol and populating data in Excel workbook.
The problem is that DDE communication between application and Excel 2013 takes more time to populate the data in workbook as compare to Excel 2010. I have tested below scenarios:
| Office2010 | Time taken: 25 secs | Windows 8.1
| Office2013 | Time taken: 160 secs| Windows 8.1
Here we can see that there is big diff in time taken.
How could I fix this : Please suggest me.

Error with a copy function after upgrading to patch 18 on the server

Hi experts,
I had the following error when I try to execute with trace in RSPLAN a copy function that was right and functioning over a workbook before upgrading to patch 18 in the server:
'Char. value of 0COSTELMNT does not correspond to value of block char. 623004'
The functions seems to be right also when I check the values but the error message is still there and over the workbook Copy function button.

Technically, Oracle supports Oracle XE through that forum. At least that was the policy as I knew it a while ago.
With installation issues for XE and the like it's probably better to just post it there. Obviously a grey area and you may well get a hit or two here, but I think you should post these kinds of questions on the XE forum.
When it comes to Apex development questions you can definitely post them here. I know, I know, it really is a pain! But you want to post where you have the best chance of getting good help.

Problem in opening Query

Hi all,
I need to create a workbook on a query, Am facing problem in opening the query, when i try to open a query in analyzer/ RSRT it starts processing & continues till 1 hour or more & finally message "Time limit Exceeded" pops up.
i tried opening a workbook & copy the workbook & tried changing the query in the data provider. but the same problem persists.
can anyone suggest me an alternate way to create workbook on a specified query.

It is not due to query performance coz all the performance related measure such as BIA & Aggregates are already taken, i dont even get the variable pop up screen for selecting &
once when i executed the query in RSRT it gave an ABAP Debugger errror. i check if it was problem with table space, but space is available & its auto extendable.

I'm using the free epub reader, the file I imported says "Due to an error in the ePub file, the table of contents can't be displayed correctly.

It's actually not the first time I have seen this issue, please refer to this thread below:

Here are some suggestions:
1. If this issue only occurs to one Workbook, copy the file contents and paste them to another new Workbook, try to print and check the result.
2. Maybe Excel is configured to run in Compatibility Mode. Right click on the Excel shortcut, click Properties -> Compatibility tab -> If Excel is configured to run in compatibility mode, untick it and click OK.
3. There may be some corruption in the Excel install, try to repair Office from Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

Setting that makes black text look colour to a printer

A quick sorry for not being totally on the ball with indesign (cs4), so please help me with simple wording if you can help as I am not a professional.
I created a colour booklet which was fine until I was asked to do it all again but this time with the outside cover being colour and the rest of the pages inside black and white. so this I did by changing all text, boxes, strokes etc in to black (not rich black just 100%K) and ran the jpgs through Photoshop to make them greyscale, so far so good. At this stage everything was as I needed it to be so I hit the export and saved a PDF version and sent the file. Now for the reason for doing this. My friend soon realised that printing colour pages on their works professional multi function printing device is expensive, as colour pages are charged for at higher price per copy compared to Black and white by the machines operator. Now for the problem: The booklet is being printed with a colour front cover and the rest is in black and white as I wanted it to be, but as far as the printer is concerned it is seeing the black text as colour so is charging for it. Ouch.
Of the few things I know of preferences I have made sure that it is not set to output all blacks as rich black which I thought would be the cure but it would not seem to be. I am at a loss to understand the other output settings or other stuff which may be telling the printer to use the colour cartridges instead of just the black. Help Please
If it is of help I made and exported a single page file in the same way with just a greyscale jpg on it and that printed just fine with the printer charging it as a black and white page as it should so the problem realy is in how the text is being seen.

OK, so where we are at the moment.
over the holiday I had the reason to re-format my computer which isn't such a bad thing as I got to reload Indesign which should have corrected any problems in the indesign preferences ( I would Hope) and set everything to its default:
On opening indesign for the first time I changed the appearance of black setting to display and output all blacks accurately.
I went in to bridge and set the suit colour settings to Europe general purpose 2 and synchronised.
As it looks now: I made a new file where I typed one word in black (Helo)
I checked the typed word with the separations preview, turning off the black and cmyk and the typed word disappeared which is a good thing as this means there is no other colour present on the page except 100%K.
I saved and exported the file to PDF as Press Quality, (the only other box ticked on the general page was the optimise for fast web view which I left alone and unchanged) I left all other pages in the export area unchanged from the defaults produces by the Press Quality preset
I sent the file off and guess what: the printer saw it as colour and charged it as colour.

Fonts Skewed on Excel Charts in PDF

Copy/pasted Excel charts as a picture into Word 2007. Converted Word 2007 to pdf (Acrobat 8.1.2), but fonts within charts appear very heavy bold (unreadable), even when not bolded, whether printed or viewed on screen. Using Windows XP. Any ideas?

Since it is a workbook Copy and inset query Twice. Use one result set as source for your Chart and hide this result area. You can use the second result set for navigation.

SAP delivers Business Content in the SAP Delivery Version (D version).
You need to transfer the Business Content objects in the active version (A version) in order to be able to work with them.
In the Business Information Warehouse a differentiation is made between the following object versions:

The following diagram displays the Business Content versions
The black arrows represent how the versions are used in the delivery process:
       1.      SAP delivery
¡        SAP delivers the Business Content objects in the D Version.

Only those objects that were stored in the A version are exported from the development system. When importing into the target system, these objects, dependent on object type, are either imported directly into the active version or in a modified version.

JXL -- Applet -- NoClassDefFoundError

First off, I have no clue if this is the correct place to post this, and I'm sorry if it isnt but I couldnt find a forum more specific.
I am building a project that will be an applet and ran from my school's web server. The program will work similarly to how freerice.com does their thing, only it will include latin vocabulary and there is no free rice for the poor.
In order to hold all of the vocab words/user data I have decided to use an excel sheet. This is because the data has already been created and it is in an excel sheet, so its just easier that way. So since I will be using an excel sheet for my databasing, I found jxl to be a potentially useful tool.
I ran a test/learning program to figure out how jxl works, the possible issues I would run into, ect. THAT program was an application. So after getting to a place where I feel comfortable with jxl, I decided to make the necessary changes to my applet to include jxl. However I had some issues which I will talk about below. Here is the code and output for each program.

The only possible solution using only an applet requires a mapped drive. And that has the previously mentioned limitations. And even then you are going to need a design that deals with that.
A better solution
1. Use an actual java server, not just an applet.
2. Move the data into a real database.

I have users with a Windows 7 client running Office 2007.  The
printer is an HP Laserjet P4010_P4510 series .  The
user has not experienced any problems printing in the past, and can still print everything except the Excel Workbook.  I

Like I said the client can print other word/ Power point
and any other document except Excel document.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Automating Visual Captioning?!

Ive got 5000 photos that need to be individually captioned and embedded on the actual photo (think National Geographic photo subtitles). What is the easiest/automated way to do this?
Ideally the caption / description is not embedded on the actual photo - I would need to create a white block at the bottom of the photo and use black text. This is not mandatory - if need be, the white bar could be on top of the actual photo.
How do I automate a process given that Im going through 5000 photos and dont want to have to do a lot of clicking around to do it?

Hi Cjsykes,
Based on the code in orignal post, you were making changes in the workbook and saved the changes.
Since the workook was saved on a net work and could be opened by others at the sametime, I suspect the workbook may be opened by others before you opened it. Would you mind shareing the exect error message you got?
Also you can copy this workbook and test the code with the workbook copied to see whether the issue is relative to the workbook opened by others.
