Working With HD Template in FCP 6

Hey All,
I just started messing around with the HD templates in FCP 6 and they are very cool. However, they seem to take a very long time to render. A 23 seconds is taking roughly 10 minutes. Does that seem right? Any suggestions on how to cut the render time down.

I've checked the setting and they are set to DV/NTSC not HDV. Also, is there a guide on online manual to use the HD templates. There's nothing in any of the manuals on how to use them. They all appear to have come right out of Motion.

  • Why Does Live View In DW Not Work With BC Template?

The live view using a BC template in DW CS6 shows "PAGE NOT FOUND" in the body section but the header and footer look fine. I should also point out that the index.htm page works fine, it's just the other pages that have this problem. What makes it weirder is that the site works fine in all other modes including when viewing in a normal browser, it's ONLY when in live view! I also noticed that if I delete the .htm extension in the url in the DW browser when in Live View it fixes the problem, but this requires me to do this everytime I want to switch to live view and surely is either a problem with how the BC template files are named or DW CS6 is buggy? Hopefully this is an easy one to answer??

  • Crop a background image (movie) - working with a template

I'm working with the template "Promo > Product Shot". The image block with the bike is what I want to replace with my own video clip.
I can't figure out how to replace it, so I took the video clip and "placed" it. That's all fine, but now I want the size of the video clip to match the size of the bike block. I can scale it down to get close but then I'd have to crop the sides to get the vertical block shape.
Can't figure out how to do this either. Is it even possible?
    Thank you very much,
    Eric P

Thank you for the speedy reply.
I played with that tab a little but didn't understand exactly what it was so I never followed through with it.
I did follow your steps, but nothing happened. Perhaps there is something I have to do after selecting the movie?
    Thank you,

  • BUG: Dynamic report column headings not working with some templates

Using Apex 2.0, we are trying to create a vertical report with dynamic labels like &P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L. based on items populated by PL/SQL.
This seems to work fine for some templates but not for others. With a horizontal report template we get output like:
    <th class="t4ReportHeader" id="REF_RECEIVED_DATE">Received</th>
<td  headers="Received" class="t4data">29-MAR-2007</td>But with the vertical template we get:
<th>&P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L.</th><td>29-MAR-2007</td>Also, if we use "default: vertical report, look 1" we see "&P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L." in the output, but with "default: vertical report, look 2" we see "Received".

have you checked that your report template has a
valid value for the "Column Heading Template"
property? This template has nothing in the "Column Heading Template" because it is designed to show the data in this form:
    Heading1 - Value1
    Heading2 - Value2
    Heading3 - Value3
Hence both the heading and the data appear in the "Column Template 1" property as follows:
    <tr><th class="t3header">#COLUMN_HEADER#</th><td class="t3data">#COLUMN_VALUE#</td></tr>
Maybe it is an Apex limitation that the #COLUMN_HEADER# value can't be accessed from this subtemplate? Yet somehow it works with "default: vertical report, look 2" (which I realise isn't a template as such).

  • Working with still images in FCP X

Is there a easy way to work with pictures in FCP X? Yes, I know it's built for editing video, but I use to rack up hundreds of pictures in FCP 7 to create DVD and CD-ROM slideshows for my job and it worked great. I could overlay custom titles and graphics that I built in Motion and had great success. However, X takes forever to process images and is so slow. Any advice??

  • Help: Working with .MOV files in FCP and forced to RENDER FOR EVERY EDIT

I'm working with .MOV files from my digital camera in Final Cut Pro and every time I make a new edit, I have to render it in order to see it in the canvas.
How do I make it so that I don't have to render every edit in order to see it?
(I've worked with files straight from a DV camera, and editing went fine. I'm assuming it has to do with the .MOV files)

DV Cameras are not the same thing as a Digital camera. Digital cameras offer video on a limited basis and it's usually highly compressed in a non-editing format such as MPEG-2 or similar. NLEs are made to work with video cameras, not still cameras which is why you're having trouble.
That's not to say you can't edit video captured with a digital camera, but you need to know how to prep it for editing. Some digital cameras shoot at odd frame rates and they all use some form of compression that is not typically used in editing. This means that you'll likely need to convert your clips to an editable format first using Compressor.

  • Working with 1080i 24pA in FCP 6

I'm having problems working with footage shot in 1080i 24pA on the P2 format on an HVX-200 camera. I am using Final Cut Pro 6.0. I have the necessary P2 drivers from Panasonic to access the footage. There is no option in the project settings for 1080i 24pA. The only option for 24pA and the frame rate of 23.987 is 1080p 24pA.
In another forum it said that 24pA stores the 24p into a 60i signal. It suggested to conform the footage to make the 24p-in-60i into pure 24p using Cinema Tools. However, I am unable to access the original clips in Cinema Tools.
Playing the imported clip in the viewer it looks fine. But, playing the clip in the sequence the frame rate is changed to 29.
I did not do a thorough search of the Apple forums because I did not know the exact nature of my problem.

Yes, 1080p not 1080i. 1080i 24pA is what we shot in. There was no option to shoot in 1080p 24pA on the camera, the only option for shooting in progressive was in 720. I don't see any option anywhere in Final Cut Pro 6.0 for 1080 i 24pA.
I was previously instructed to go through Cinema Tools. But as of yet I am unable to accomplish this with the footage.
The footage was injested to my macbook pro using the P2 contents management software provided by Panasonic on their website. I used a DualAdapter brand card reader to read the P2 card and ingest to a database created on my macbook pro. The file system used is XMF.

  • Advise about work with differents formats in fcp

If you´ve got media shooted in hdv and pal:¿Wich is the best way to work with it?.I mean the suitable sequence settings to work with both formats in a project.
    Thanks.

Juanelo, please clarify your question... PAL is a television standard or system, while HDV is a shooting format.
Are you editing PAL based HDV for PAL delivery, or do you have PAL HDV footage mixing with NTSC HDV footage...and if so, where is the delivery system...PAL, NTSC or SECAM.

  • Working with previous version of FCP

Please excuse me if this has been recently answered, as my computer has been stalling a lot as I search for an answer (that twirling thing going around and around) and I need some feedback as soon as I can.
I have to make a trailer within the next month for my documentary, and have captured and logged some of the footage. I have recently upgraded to FCP 5.1.4 and have a Powerbook G4 with 10.4.9.
The editor that can help me in a week has version 5.1.2, with another project already on her computer system. She is away in South America for a week but we are in email contact.
She told me that she would have to upgrade to 5.1.4; that she does not think she use my footage that was captured using FCP 5.1.4 on her 5.1.2 FCP version, but is hesitant to dump the current project off her system. I assume that should she upgrade to 5.1.4 she could go back to the project that was being edited on 5.1.2, but what do I know.
I don't have any sequences as yet, just some footage captured and logged onto my external FW drive, which I had planned to bring to her.
Clearly she will be going back to the project now on her system, and I'm wondering if I will have to find another editor at this late date who has 5.1.4
Please advise if she is correct about not being able to import my footage and edit on her system. Again, no sequences made as yet, just clips logged and captured.
    Thank you in advance!
    15" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1 GHz, 1 GB SDRAM, 60 GB HD

yes, working in DV, everything captured using a SONY
    DSR-20 deck
Good. Any media captured will fine on the other system, just import them from the Finder.
    I'm reading about XML now
XML is perfect to send over anything from within your newer FCP project. Export XML on your end, import on the other.
I think we'll be okay -- she can always VIEW the
footage on my system and then we can decide which
clips to bring into her system for the purposes of
    the trailer.
You'll be fine. She can bring in all the clips. DV storage is cheap, better to have too much than not enough.
    again, thank you!
You are welcome and good luck.

  • Working with WMV files in FCP 5 Timeline

I know Flip4Mac Studio Edition allows for importing and exporting into and out of FCP 5 in WMV format. What I'm not sure of, is can you do intensive editing on the WMV files in FCP 5 without any glitches. Will FCP run smoothly?
I am asking because I work at online company that will be receiving wmv files on its servers. This is a high volume workflow with an intense turnover rate. We are receiving hour long clips and re-editing them down to 2 minutes. There is no time to go through lengthy WMV to MOV conversions. We need to receive, edit, and output all in WMV.
Can FLip4Mac with FCP 5 edit an intense environment like this? Where everything is done in WMV? Or Is Flip4Mac primarily for converting WMV into MOV so that editing in FCP is done with MOV files, and then at the end exporting as WMV again.
Is FLip4Mac the only solution. Are there others? After recommending and praising Macs, I may be on thin ice if FLip4Mac isn't a sufficient workaround!!
    Thanks Curtis

Saving a WMV as MOV in QuicktimePro is simply putting a MOV wrapper on the WMV so FCP will better handle it. It's a Save As not an export so there's no additional compression.
Ultimately you will have to render though, most likely because it's not one of the video formats natively handled by FCP (DV, DVCPro50, etc). It's not just the physical settings, the "video" codec itself must be supported. BTW if you were to edit in HDV you'd have to render too for output (to create new GOP structure in that case though).
    Hi Craig,
Thanks for the advice, a few things though....
"Flip4Mac Player Pro allows you to edit WMV in FCP."
The problem is that I need to render when I import
WMV files into FCP, even though I have matched all of
the parameters in the sequence settings (ie. pixel
aspect ratio, frame rate, frame size, etc.)
I don't know for sure, but my understanding is I have
to render because there is no WM9 option under the
"compressor" parameter in the Sequence Settings.
Because of this it is impossible to import WMV files
without rendering even with FLip4Mac, because I have
it installed and can still export as a WMV file.
Have you discovered a way to import WMV files into
FCP without needing rendering? This is critical for
me because the environment I'm in doesn't allow for
long render times, as it will slow down the workflow
    of the whole newsroom.
"I can also open WMV in QuicktimePro (with Flip4Mac)
and save the file as MOV. I find it works smoother
    that way."
But doesn't it degrade the quality when you convert
to .MOV? And for me, going from WMV to MOV back to
WMV will result in degradations at each step won't
    it?

  • Working with different versions of FCP

My apologies if this is answered somewhere else but is there any way to work on a newer version of FCP then take that project to an older version?
We have 5.1 at home but the workplace has 5.0. I'd like to do some work at home and am not sure how take the project back on forth.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!
XML exports and imports will allow you to go back and forth with sequences. But since the crossgrade is so inexpensive, I'd suggest the office buy the latest software, so you don't waste time and effort doing this. I don't think every single aspect of what you do at home will translate completely with XML being the transfer technique.
There's a fine article written by Philip Hodgetts on the subject here: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/xmlhodgetts.html

  • Working with green screen in FCP

Any clue why I'm having so much trouble? I'm trying to key out green screen in more than one layer.
I shot HD footage at 1080i30p. I have live characters on green screen layered over still psd backdrops.
Seems simple but the process seems extra slow and very glitchy.
One or two keyed layers sort of works, more than that is slow as mud or causes crashes.
Sometimes even one layer over a still backdrop will show a smear streaking defect.
Any help doing this type of compositing without having to learn Shake or After effects?

Keep in mind that the most important part of keying happens in production. If the lighting is not perfect, meaning none of the key light should spill onto the green screen, and the proportions of light from foreground to background, and the evenness of the background light: keying will be difficult.
To help yourself out, use garbage mattes to crop out any area that does not have action in it. That way you won't have to worry about pulling a perfect key for areas of your footage that don't matter. Only be concerned with the pixels just around your subject(s). You will not be able to do this well in FCP> Remember that FCP is an editing system, not compositing. Just because it CAN composite, doesn't mean that it SHOULD composite.
In Motion you can keyframe infinite points to your masks and you can use trackers to follow your subject(s) so you don't have to set manual keyframes.
I am sure you were looking for an easy answer, but unfortunately keying and copositing are not easy tasks.
    Hope this helps.

  • Working with aspect ratio from fcp to dvd sp

I am trying to cut video for use in a dvdsp menu. I have converted video to m2v using compressor. Video looks fine when importing to dvdsp. I try to edit same file in fcp. Everything works except when I export. After I edit m2v in fcp I am unable to make a successful export to dvdsp. I am able to import and add it to menu but the video looses its aspect ratio and is stretched.

    Very true!
But there are more cows on the loose here.
For example, the QuickTime Player Pro ( with its MPEG-2 Playout Component) will always report a square- pixel size of a .m2v file. But this is just reflecting the window size that QT decided to scale the 720x480 (or 720x576) to, because the inability for a computer screen to display non-square pixels.
So it can say that an MPEG-2 file is 640x480 when it is in fact 720x480. Even worse it can tell you 720x404 or 720x540, while none of them are even technically possible to use in MPEG-2.
It is true also that BitVice (1.8x and 2.x) allows you to encode all MPEG-2 legal picture sizes up to and including 720x576, a.k.a MP@ML ( or just SD). However, only a very few of them are legal for DVD, for example, NTSC:
    720x480
    704x480
    352x480
    352x240
    and PAL
    720x576
    704x576
    352x576
    352x288
