Workspace Manager Problem

I posted this to cdos so I aplogize if some of you get this question twice.
I have a schema of about 200 version enabled tables. What I would like
to do is to modify one of the tables using DBMS_WM.BEGINDDL, however
the table name is 25 characters in length. Although the documentation
states that a table name cannot exceed 25 characters (because of adding
_HIST and the like) it seems as if the limit is fewer than 25 if you
ever would like to alter the table.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround to my problem.
TIA...Dave Kent

Hi,
If I recall correctly, this was a problem in an older version of workspace manager where the maximum allowed length was 22 characters. I would recommend upgrading to the 9.2.0.7.1 release, which is the latest for a 9.2 database.
If the problem persists, then I would recommend to file a TAR on the issue.

    There are posts on the OLAP forum covering this problem. Anthony Waite from the OLAP Product Management team has provided the following information:
    e new, default Model View in AWM 10.1.0.4.0 is based upon the OLAP Analytic Workspace API (a.k.a. AW/XML). Just to recap and further clarify my earlier post, you must pass the following requirements in order to use it:
    1) Be sure to be using the Enterprise Edition of the Oracle Database 10g.
    SQL> select banner from v$version where banner like 'Oracle%';
    You should see Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition.
    2) Be sure to have the Data Warehouse database configuration or the OLAP Option enabled.
    SQL> select parameter, value from v$option where parameter='OLAP';
    You should see OLAP TRUE.
    3) Be sure that the RDBMS 10.1.0.4 patch set has been completely installed. Users often miss the required Post-Installation Steps such as running catpatch.sql.
    SQL> select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
    You should see VALID and 10.1.0.4.0 for the OLAP components.
    4) The Oracle Database must have the compatibility mode of 10.1 to use the Model View as it relies on the unique features found in Oracle Database 10g.
    SQL> select name, value, description from v$parameter where name ='compatible';
    You should see 10.1, not 9.2 or earlier.
    5) Please refer to the patchnote.htm that is bundled with 10.1.0.4.0 patch set. Only you are aware of what type of database configuration you have. You will want to pay close attention to "7.2.1.3 Set the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and JAVA_POOL_SIZE Initialization Parameters" and "7.2.2 Upgrade the Release 10.1 Database".
    Basically, I believe you have missed these required steps after installing the 10.1.0.4.0 patch set from the OUI: (pasted from the patchnote.htm)

  • Triggers in Workspace Manager

    I've got some problems with the workspace manager and triggers in 10g:
    If you have a trigger defined on a table and you version this table, ORACLE will create 3 "instead of"-triggers on the view representing the table.
    The "content" of the trigger will be created in a wm$ procedure.
    My question is: How can I change my trigger without unversioning the table?
    As an example, consider the following two tables:
    -- Create Data Table
    CREATE TABLE MY_TABLE
         X_ID NUMBER(28) NOT NULL,
         V_TEXT VARCHAR2(200),
         V_COMMENT VARCHAR2(4000)
    -- The Table's PK
    ALTER TABLE MY_TABLE ADD CONSTRAINT PK_MY_TABLE
         PRIMARY KEY (X_ID)
    USING INDEX;
    -- Create Registry Table
    CREATE TABLE MY_REGISTRY_TABLE
         X_ID NUMBER(28) NOT NULL,
         V_OLD_TEXT VARCHAR2(200),
         V_OLD_COMMENT VARCHAR2(4000),
         V_NEW_TEXT VARCHAR2(200),
         V_NEW_COMMENT VARCHAR2(4000),
         D_WHEN DATE NOT NULL
    Now, we create a trigger that automatically registers the changes made on MY_TABLE:
    -- Create Trigger
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TR_MY_TABLE
    AFTER INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON MY_TABLE
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
         INSERT INTO MY_REGISTRY_TABLE(
              X_ID
              ,V_OLD_TEXT
              ,V_OLD_COMMENT
              ,V_NEW_TEXT
              ,V_NEW_COMMENT
              ,D_WHEN
         VALUES (
              NVL(:old.X_ID, :new.X_ID)
              ,:old.V_TEXT
              ,:old.V_COMMENT
              ,:new.V_TEXT
              ,:new.V_COMMENT
              ,sysdate
    END TR_MY_TABLE;
    Now, we decide to version MY_TABLE.
    exec dbms_wm.enableversioning('MY_TABLE');
    This turns MY_TABLE into 2 data tables and a collection of views.
    The trigger has changed as well. The original trigger has disappeared, and there are 3 "INSTEAD OF"-triggers on the view MY_TABLE:
    OVM_Delete_102
    OVM_Insert_102
    OVM_Update_102
    These three triggers in the end call a system generated procedure:
    wm$proc_udt_187
    If I try to change this procedure, the system won't let me do that.
    So, my question is, how can I change my trigger on MY_TABLE without unversioning the table?

    Hi,
    The 3 instead of triggers are created regardless of whether the table contained a user defined trigger or not. They are primarily used to implement the DML, but are used for other things as well as you noted. To change the definition of the trigger, you would need to use the Workspace Manager DDL procedure. See section 1.8 of the user guide. Essentially, you execute dbms_wm.beginDDL on the table, update the trigger on the <table_name>LTS table that is created (the trigger will have the original name that you gave it), then execute dbmswm.commitDDL.

  • Oracle11gR2 Workspace Manager and table consistency after merge

    Hi folks,
         I'm working with Oracle Workspace Manager in order to get data inserted and validated into workpaces before they become available to the LIVE workspace.
         Doing some tests I found a problem about data consistency after I merge the data from a child workspace to the parent workspace.
         To be able to explain and reproduce the problem I create a simple test case:
    --Create table TB_LINK
    create table TB_LINK
      CD_LINK NUMBER not null,
      DS_LINK VARCHAR2(30)
    --Create primary key
    alter table TB_LINK add primary key (CD_LINK);
    --Create table TB_GUD
    create table TB_GUD
      CD_GUD  NUMBER not null,
      DS_GUD  VARCHAR2(30),
      CD_LINK NUMBER
    -- Create primary key
    alter table TB_GUD add primary key (CD_GUD);
    -- Create foreign key
    alter table TB_GUD
      add constraint FK_TB_LINK foreign key (CD_LINK)
      references TB_LINK (CD_LINK);
    -- Create sequences
    create sequence SEQ_TB_GUD
    minvalue 1
    maxvalue 9999999999999999999999999999
    start with 1
    increment by 1
    nocache;
    create sequence SEQ_TB_LINK
    minvalue 1
    maxvalue 9999999999999999999999999999
    start with 1
    increment by 1
    nocache;
    --Create Triggers
    create or replace trigger "INS_TB_GUD" before insert on TB_GUD for each row
    Begin
    select SEQ_TB_GUD.nextval into :new.CD_GUD from dual;
    end;
    create or replace trigger "INS_TB_LINK" before insert on TB_LINK for each row
    Begin
    select SEQ_TB_LINK.nextval into :new.CD_LINK from dual;
    end;
    --Enable version TB_LINK and TB_GUD
    EXECUTE DBMS_WM.EnableVersioning('TB_GUD','VIEW_WO_OVERWRITE',FALSE,FALSE,'UNLIMITED');
    EXECUTE DBMS_WM.EnableVersioning('TB_LINK','VIEW_WO_OVERWRITE',FALSE,FALSE,'UNLIMITED');
    --Create a workspace
    EXECUTE DBMS_WM.CreateWorkspace ('TEST_WKS');
    --Goto workspace TEST_WKS
    EXECUTE dbms_wm.gotoworkspace('TEST_WKS');
    --Insert data into TB_LINK and TB_GUD
    INSERT INTO TB_LINK(DS_LINK) VALUES ('DS1');
    INSERT INTO TB_LINK(DS_LINK) VALUES ('DS2');
    INSERT INTO TB_LINK(DS_LINK) VALUES ('DS3');
    INSERT INTO TB_LINK(DS_LINK) VALUES ('DS4');
    COMMIT;
    INSERT INTO TB_GUD(DS_GUD,CD_LINK) VALUES ('GUD1',1);
    INSERT INTO TB_GUD(DS_GUD,CD_LINK) VALUES ('GUD2',2);
    INSERT INTO TB_GUD(DS_GUD,CD_LINK) VALUES ('GUD3',3);
    INSERT INTO TB_GUD(DS_GUD,CD_LINK) VALUES ('GUD4',4);
    COMMIT;
    --Checking keys
    select * from tb_link;
       CD_LINK      DS_LINK
             1           DS1
             2           DS2
             3           DS3
             4           DS4
    select * from tb_gud;
       CD_GUD      DS_GUD     CD_LINK
             1           GUD1              1
             2           GUD2              2
             3           GUD3              3
             4           GUD4              4
    --Merge Workspace
    EXECUTE DBMS_WM.MergeWorkspace ('TEST_WKS');
    --Checking keys
    EXECUTE dbms_wm.gotoworkspace('LIVE');
    select * from tb_link;
       CD_LINK      DS_LINK
             5           DS4
             6           DS3
             7           DS1
             8           DS2
    We can see that the CD_LINK got new values after merge and that was not expected.
    select * from tb_gud;
       CD_GUD      DS_GUD                  CD_LINK
             6           GUD3                       3
             7           GUD1                       1
             8           GUD2                       2
             5           GUD4                       4
    We can see that the CD_GUD got new values after merge and that was not expected.
    Now, the values for the CD_LINK column does not have corresponding records at the TB_LINK table, as the foreign key does not exist anymore.
    Could you please help me understand what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Luis

    Hi Luis,
    The reason for the difference is that the trigger is being run during the MergeWorkspace operation.  The inserts into the child workspace(TEST_WKS) translates into an insert into the LIVE workspace during merge as the rows do not yet exist.  As a result, the trigger is fired and the sequence is evaluated.  Ideally, we should not allow the PK to be modified by a sequence in this case.
    You have 2 options:
    (1) Check for :new.CD_GUD being null prior to using the sequence.  Any dml coming from a merge/refresh operation will have a non-null value.
    (2) Turn off the trigger during dbms_wm procedures.  This can be done using dbms_wm.SetTriggerEvents.  I would assume you would only want this trigger being run for DML events.
    Let me know if you have any questions.

    Ben

  • Where to find Analytic Workspace Manager for Oracle9i?

    Hi,
    I am looking for Analytic Workspace Manager for Oracle 9i. Could someone point me to the place it can be downloaded? On Oracle OTN there are only versions 10g and 11g. I couldn't find it on Metalink either.
    Why I need so old version? We are about to upgrade our existing installation from 9i and I need it to see what's inside in our Oracle 9i database (9.2.0.6) before going into 10g.
    Or maybe it is possible to use AWM 10g against database 9i? This would solve my problems.
    Is it possible to upgrade analytic workspaces from oracle 9i into 10g with analytic workspace manager 10g?
    Best wishes
    Tomasz Michniewski

    Hello Laura,
    Well, I was looking for this 9i version of AWM, and I was even thinking that AWM does not exist for 9i. Especially that in 9i documentation AWM is not mentioned.
    But in the meantime I have found some install from some our backup cd-rom. It says:
    # Analytic Workspace Manager : 9.2.0.4.1
    # DATE: September 26, 2003
    # Platform Patch for : platform independent
    # Product Version # : 9.2.0.4.1
    # Product : Analytic Workspace Manager
    # Platforms
    # Analytic Workspace Manager uses a platform independent install and
    # has been approved on the following platforms:
    # - Windows NT 4.0, 2000 & XP
    # - Solaris 32 & 64-bit
    # - Linux 32-bit
    # - AIX 64-bit
    # - HP-UX 64-bit
    # - Tru64
    # Requirements
    # The Analytic Workspace Manager client requires the following Oracle9i
    # Database configuration:
    # - Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 Enterprise Edition Database
    # - RDBMS 9.2.0.4.0 patch set (PS# 3095277)
    # - OLAP 9.2.0.4.1 patch (PS# 3084634)
    So is it the AWM for 9i?

    Can you check if these 3 files exist in %SystemRoot%\system32:
    - JavaAccessBridge.dll
    - WindowsAccessBridge.dll
    - JAWTAccessBridge.dll
    These are libraries for JAWS (for screen readers). Not sure where you can download these libraries from but this might be the issue.

  • Analytic Workspace Manager possible bug: Maintain Cube hangs

    Hi All,
    I am a newbe, I have been following the tutorial "Building OLAP 11g Cubes". http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/olap_cube/buildicubes.htm
    After the step "Maintain Cube SALES_CUBE", I got the information box "Loading facts for cube SALES_CUBE"...on the screen for the last 4 hours.
    Is this normal? Should I kill the process and start again?
    I am running Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 on a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 with 1GB RAM.
    The Analytic Workspace Manager is 11.2.0.1.0 running on a Windows XP SP3.
    Any help is much appreciated

    I'm getting a similar problem, I cannot maintain cubes that worked fine yesterday:
    An error has occurred on the server
    Error class: Express Failure
    Server error descriptions:

    It all started after I tried to add a calculated measure to an existing cube (something I have done before in 11g...a feature I love).
    This is too bad, so far I've been loving 11g Olap as compared to 10g Olap. But now 11g is starting to crop up these bullshit bugs as well. I guess OLAP is still too crappy to rely on for production....good thing I won't recommend a rollout of this product to my clients. It's a great tool for having fun with development, but using Oracle Olap + AWM in a real company is career suicide.

    Hi,
    What more should I install ?Did you do the OLAP catalog (dbms_olap)?

    Check the install docs for full instructions, and don't forget to pay your $20,000.00 license fee first:

  • Workspace-Manager Error-numbers

    Hi everybody,
    i have an oracle forms-application using Workspace-manager-enabled table. My problem is that i can not handle the WM-errors directly as Exceptions for they are all treated as ORA-06510-exceptions in forms. So i have to go with the error-numbers of the exceptions to cast them to a "meaningful" text. Does anybody know of a list where also the number is listed next to the Exception WM_ERROR_xxx ?
    Thanks for your help.

    Found the answer by testing:
    Raised an DBMS_WM.WM_ERROR_1 and checked sqlcode (-20001) and DBMS_WM.WM_ERROR_282 (-20282) and "guessed" the rest :-)

  • Invisible structure in Analytic Workspace Manager after importing from EIF

    Hello,
    I got problem with migration OFA structure (6.3.4) to Oracle OLAP. My Oracle Database is 11.2 Enterprise Edition
    1. I've exported OFA database do eif file.
    2. I've created user in Oracle database, grant olap_user and created directory
    3. I installed Analytic Workspace Manager 11.2.0.3.0A
    4. After connection on Analytic Workspaces I run 'Create Analytic Workspace from EIF file ...' -> The import was succeeded
    Here is the problem - there is no visible imported structure in the tree under Analytic Workspaces. I think that structures were properly imported. That Analytic Workspace is in the sql results:
    select dbal.owner||'.'||substr(dbal.table_name,4) awname, sum(dbas.bytes)/1024/1024 as mb, dbas.tablespace_name from dba_lobs dbal, dba_segments dbas where dbal.column_name = 'AWLOB' and dbal.segment_name = dbas.segment_name group by dbal.owner, dbal.table_name, dbas.tablespace_name order by dbal.owner, dbal.table_name
    I've also tried using Analytic Workspace Manager Worksheet.
    AW CREATE OFA_TEST
    IMPORT ALL FROM EIF FILE 'c/baza.eif' DATA DFNS
    UPDATE
    COMMIT
    The results are the same :(
    What else should be done ? can anyone pls help me on this??
    Grzegorz

    Grzegorz,
    OFA to OLAP is not an easy thing if you are trying to do it by hand. That is why we built an OFA conversion utility into our product. Example time for Full OFA to OLAP/Escendo conversion is about three days for an OFA system of 300-400Gb, including data, processes (Solves) reports, saved selections etc.)
    Part of the problem is that OFA is an application which uses a ton of back end catalogs which drive everything. It also makes very heavy use of saved selections internally which makes straight export and import tough.
    The overall process is that all of the visible structures need to be created within OLAP so that they are visible. We support both 'public' (ergo visible, metadata based) objects as well as 'back end' structures which are not visible to the front end. If you need business logic translated over it can get complicated to do by hand as well, since things don't map directly into the way Oracle does things in AWM now, due to some differences between the architectures.
    One of the great things about putting your OFA into OLAP is that everything becomes available to any standard SQL reporting application.
    Our IDE is a full mulit-developer environment which allows multiple developers to work even within the same AW, for any operation, including creation of dimensions, measures etc. as well as the editing of code in programs & models.
    Are you just trying to get the data in? or are you wanting to use the system like you would use OFA?

  • ETL with OWB and Workspace Manager with Analytic Workspace Manager?

    I already created my dimensions and cubes with "warehouse builder", as a tables, so can I map them in the dimensions and cubes defined with "analytic workspace manager?
    please somone help, becasue I can't found this information on a manual "OLAP application's developers guide".
    also, whichis the manual that I have to follow to create things in AWM? i think is this that I use "OLAP application's developers guide"
    Someone can tell me something?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I.m using OWB 10.1.0.4.0 and choosing "Project" then "Metadata Export" and finally "Bridge" I can lanch a wizard that allow me to choose between 3 kind of export.
    If you choose OLAP the wizard will ask you which collection of metadata to export and other options, after succesfully running this wizard (which is not so easy) you can open the AWM and see the export of your dimesion and cube iside an AW.
    I'm finding lots of problems using this feature due to the limited options I can set to the cube and the dimension (type of aggregations, calculated measures, limit on the number of measures in the cube, etc.).
    Waiting for the new OWB Paris if you can post your experience it will be very appreciated.
    Good luck,
    Franco

  • Upgrading from 9.0.1.3 to 11.2.0.4 with Oracle Workspace Manager

    Our client has a (very old) 9.0.1.3 database on Windows 2000
    This database (and other products – but that’s not the main concern right now) needs to be upgraded to 11.2.0.4 in Windows2008R2 (64 bit).
    A complicating factor might be the use of Oracle Workspace Manager – a lot of tables are Workspace Managed.
    We can do it the long way, by upgrading it via 9.1.0.4, 10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.4 -> Export and then, on the new environment, import on 10.2.0.4 en subsequently upgrade it to 10.2.0.5 and then 11.2 (and maybe some more patching afterwards).
    But that takes way too long (downtime).
    So would it be possible to do it the “easy way”:
    Full Database Export of 9.0.1.3, import it into a brand new empty 11.2.0.4 and then upgrade Workspace Manager to 11.2 as well?
    Or should we upgrade OWM to 11.2 in the old environment - and is that possible at all?
    (FYI: Snippet from the OWM manuals : Workspace Manager supports the import and export of version-enabled tables in one of the following two ways: a full database import and export, and a workspace-level import and export through Workspace Manager procedures. No other export modes, such as schema, table, or partition level, are currently supported).
    (On purpose cross-posted in the "Workspace Manager" Forum : Upgrading from 9.0.1.3 to 11.2.0.4 with Oracle Workspace Manager

    The database is not that big (in fact there are two, both around 130Gb).
    Affordable downtime is one weekend. The long way (with all patching and upgrading) takes around 100 hours...
    We did raise an SR, but the answer was ... take the long way home ;-)
    (But, FYI, I didn't raise the SR, so I don't know what question has been asked... If the original question was "how to upgrade", you get the official statement. If you don't ask for other options, you don't get them - so I ask it here...)
    And I've seen that presentation... Thanks anyway.
