Worrying phone calls

I was wondering if someone can help me about once a month I get a phone call from an old lady who thinks I am someone else.  Maybe she has mis-dialled or what whom do I speak to if there is something wrong with her and she calls this number.  So can anyone help me of whom to get in touch with, thank you

I like your concern, not seen too often so well done.
Trouble is I don't believe there is anything that BT can do to help here. If it is a genuine old lady maybe talking to her might elicit some information about family who might be able to help.

  • Worrying phone calls RE broadband

    This is a bit concerning.
I have recently had 2 calls from two different ISP's about my internet connection.  The first was from Pipex asking to speak to the account holder regarding problems with the internet connection.  I thought this was some kind of scam so asked a few questions, which the chap helpfully answered and assured me everything was ok.  He said that my telephone number had been passed from support as it had been used for a line check.  He was just calling up to make sure everything was connected ok.  When I explained that I was a BT customer, he seemed pretty suprised and apologised.
Today, I have had a call from TalkTalk for identical reasons.  This time the caller wasn't so friendly and promptly hung up when I said everything was fine and that I'm a BT customer.
Now, the only line checks/speed checks I have run that have prompted me for a phone number are www.speedtester.bt.com & the www.bt.com site.  I'm confused how they would get my number?
    Anyone else had this?

    Hi Greg.
I'm afraid this is a scam as you rightly guessed. These criminals will try to say you've got BB problems, or viruses etc and possibly ask you to download something like teamviewer (which is actually a very good program and very useful) and attempt to take over your PC (and perhaps load something) - which may then try to get personal details etc.
They get your number by guessing, or picking numbers out of the phone book at random.
If anyone else gets these, you can say "I'm a little busy now - give me your number and I'll ring back later" - they will almost certainly not do this. Any number you do get, do an online search.
Did you do a 1471 after the call to see what number (if any) called ?
Anyway, as usual - *never* give out any personal details, never agree to anything, always ask them questions - if in any doubt whatsoever, hang up.

  • I can't download to the io5 to my iphone as it comes up with error and now i can't even open any of my downloaded app or even make a phone call. Someone help me

I have updated Itunes to 10.5 and was told my iphone has a new update so i did this until i got a message saying error i cannot update iphone. itunes then disconnected my phone and  has now left me with a phone i can't use.
apps i have downloaded will not open
    i cant make phone calls
    phone turns itself off.
    will someone please help me.

A wet phone is out of warranty. This is considered user damage. Even if you were able to get it to start now, the chances of it working for long are slim. I suggest going to Apple and see about an OOW replacement. One for the iPhone 4 is only $149USD and it would come with a short warranty. It is a refurbished device and you would not be worried about encountering additional problems.

  • WARNING SCAM Phone Calls purporting to be from BT ...

At 08:55 today I received a phone call from 0800 169 1608. An Automated message was left purporting to be from BT and prompting me to press numbers on my keypad I.e. if I was the Account holder press 1 etc. As I was concerned it could be something important, I tried to recall the number but connected to another automated message again purporting to be from BT and that if required, they would ring back. After Googling the phone number I became suspicious and contacted BT directly to see if they had any knowledge about calling me. They informed me that it was not BT, it was a SCAM call and to email them at [email protected] with the details. According some entries on Google this scammier is trying to obtain Account details and God knows whatever else ! This afternoon I received a call back from the Real BT reassuring me that it was definately not them calling earlier and that they would be carrying out an investigation and would recontact me again in a few days time.

So before you or anyone you know falls victim to the scheme, bear these tips in mind:
•Be suspicious of unexpected phone calls asking for personal or financial information, regardless of who they claim to represent.
•Be warned that banks will never ask you for your PIN or online information over the phone.
•Know that your bank will never ask you to withdraw money to hand over or transfer to another account.
•Your bank will never send anyone to your home to collect cash, a payment card or a cheque book.
•If you’re worried that the call may be real, hang up and call your bank through a different phone line.
•If you think the call is a scam, take note of the caller’s phone number and report it to Callercenter.com. Spread the word and warn others.

  • Fraudulent phone calls?

Hello and sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I have been a customer of BT for a while now and not heard of this before. I’m getting regular phone calls from people claiming to be BT, telling me they can reduce my broadband cost as long as I stay with BT for the next three months. Now this sounds all well and good but I have had problems in the past with scams form people claiming to be Sky etc and I have been told that companies wouldn’t be phoning me to gain information from me this made me suspicious, also on asking them to write to me with the information the caller seem to get unclear on my contact details.
So community am I being over protective or am I right to be worried about these phone calls?
    Thank you,
    Richard.

BT don't offer any reduced rates for a three month contract commitment, so I would say the calls are a scam. You can get a very good deal by renewing your contract for 12 months though, the best thing you can do is ring sales on 0800 800 150 and then ask to speak to someone form COT (the customer option team). This way you know your dealing with BT, and if you're happy to stay with BT for 12 months you can make some pretty hefty savings.

  • Business received Past Due notice phone call, we dont have Verizon Wireless

    Hi,
I am an IT administrator for a small company.
Our office received an automated phone call from Verizon Wireless about a past due balance of a couple hundred dollars.
I found it odd since no one in the company (we're a small business of 7 people) has verizon wireless and if they did I would have been the one to set up accounts. We have had the same address and phone number for a couple years now so it couldnt have been a mistake. I waited to speak with a representative.,
I gave them my name, company I represented, and explained the situation from them. I told them I received a call about a past due notice. They asked for our contact number, I gave them company's phone number. They found the account through that number and the company name was listed on the account however at this point was where the conversation died. The representative immediately would not answer any further questions because I was apparently not the account holder. They told me if I wanted to do anything I would have to get the account holder on the phone.
Now I understand why they couldn't help me due to privacy concerns.
However I am wondering what a small business can do because I am worried about someone fraudulently opening an account under the company's name and running a past due notice.

Have them mail the past due notice to your business address.
However if one of your employees/Officers have a personal account opened under your business with your FID number you may have to send a letter of dispute for those charges.
Have them send a complete written bill to your attention. That hopefully will clear it up.
    Good Luck

  • MBP Wackiness (Just a thought and a Phone call)

So there are us "fence-sitters" who are clearly leaning in the direction of buying the MBP, regardless. But all this talk of revisions and weird noises has got us bothered.
So I did the only thing I could do: I made a phone call. Now FIRST and foremost I am not making light of a very real issue that has surfaced. I am simply reporting to those of us who are worried about purchasing one.
I called the retailer from whom I purchase all my stuff from and spoke with the guy who helps me. Well, actually I give him my credit card number and he sends me what I ask for. For posterity and the fact that I didn't ask for permission I am not mentioning the organization or the name of the guy that takes my money. So this is today's conversation:
"So just be straight with how bad are the problems?"
"We've sold more than a hundred. We've gotten three back"
    "What about the whine?"
"One. One of those was a whine issue.''
"Do you get any other information regarding the problems."
"You think we would, but a lot of times they treat us like mushrooms"
"So, you think I could order one and it wouldn't be a problem"
"Well, so far we're 99% and they took that one back."
So if it's worth anything to you fence sitters: I'm ordering one. Well, I still have to wait for the funds. But by the end of the month, I'll let you know how it's going.
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I'm not saying that your "guy" is lying, but it's VERY possible that he could be. How often do you make a return to a salesman? Never. Unless it's a one man band, however this cannot be the case if they've sold over a 100.
This guy is a salesman, do you think his boss would be impressed if he didn't say whatever possible to make a sale? I bet his boss would have the logic of "sell the product now, deal with any issues later".
The other issue is, your "guy" doesn't know how many people are A) just living with it, B) contacted Apple directly and they are taking care of the problem.
Let's be honest, we know the problem exists, some people can live with it (like myself, I'm a sucker for the latest a greatest first gen crap,) and some people can't. If you're one of those people who think everything has to be perfect in this world and humans cannot make any errors, don't buy now.

  • Phone calls to my sister's number in NJ aren't accepted from my phone #

I have Verizon landline service; my sister in NJ has Comcast.  When I try to call her home # I get the following recording, "Phone calls are not being accepted from this number."  My sister checked with Comcast, and they said the issue is on my (Verizon) end.  When I use my cell phone to call her number I get through right away.  What is the problem?

The problem you are encountering can be rectified by simply pressing *82 before you dial out to call someone. The feature you have on your home phone is a valuable one which is that your name and your phone number will never appear on someone else's caller id because this feature automatically is activated for you to protect your personal info from popping up on someone's caller id. If you have fios tv and you were to call your own home from your cell phone while you have your tv on then you will see on the left hand side of the tv what it is that someone would see without you deactivating the feature where if you want to test out what someone is going to see when you press *82 before you dial out a number to test it out by calling your home from your cell phone too. That caller id feature on tv is something that needs to be activated by pressing menu on the remote then go down to the settings area go right then go down to caller id where it will ask you to check availability by pressing ok then it will be activated. You can also scroll down to alert duration and make the name and number stay up to 15 seconds which is a benefit to those who have a tv on but are not right in front of it but do not want to pick up the phone so you can check out who it is by looking at the tv. It is not only homes that will want you to temporarily deactivate the feature. There are restaurants or pizzerias who may ask you to deactivate it because there are people who place bogus orders just to mess with places that make food or if they want to prank their neighbors. If you press *82 you do not have to worry about it being permanently disabled as it will go back to being enabled by default and will continue to protect your personal info from appearing on people's caller ids so you will not end up having to deal with harrassing phone calls. Now i also want to mention that when you call a 1 800 number all of your personal info will appear regardless of whether you have the feature activated or not so it is possible that you may get some telemarketing calls. There is however the do not call registry that you can go online to sign up for to try to get 1 800 number telemarketers to not harrass you and if you are already on the list where they still continue to call then contact the ftc (federal trade commission) to file a complaint with them. Write down the the numbers of those people so you can give it to the ftc so they can pursue legal action against the harrassing parties. The last thing you should know of is the microsoft scam. It is a group of people from india who microsoft once used as a support group who are pretending to be microsoft but they are not microsoft. They contact people who are fios customers demanding access to their computers because according to them the computers are infected with a lot of viruses where they want to get rid of them for you. Do not allow them access because if you do they will not only steal your info but also your money among other things but they could also pretend to be you while they go around infecting other people's computers or try to hack into banks where you would be the one who people would go after and try to either sue or incarcerate because of a crime that was committed. Google "microsoft scam" to see how big a issue this is where fios customers are being targeted by those cyber criminals who are not really microsoft employees but a bunch of con artists who are robbing people all over the country.

  • "Missing important phone calls"

In responding to the lack of 3G capability in the iPhones to be sold in Germany,
+Jobs said the power demands of chips for the faster, third-generation cell networks would have cut phone talk time in half.+
+"The iPhone has eight hours of talk time, and that's a lot, and we'd like at least five hours of talk time with 3G so people can take advantage of the iPod, take advantage of the Internet functions and actually use them and *not have to worry about missing their important phone calls*," Jobs said.+
Right now, if you are checking your email or surfing the web on EDGE, you ARE going to miss the "important phone calls" since iPhone (version 1.0.2) still does not have the ability to prompt you for that important phone call. I hope this design flaw will be addressed in the next release of iPhone firmware update.

That won't happen Changren. It has nothing to do with a firmware update. It has to do with the limitations of EDGE technology.

That is a new "feature" described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off

  • Iphone 4s phone call issues

I just bought an iphone4s, white, 32gb. Sometimes when I make a phone call the person that I am ringing cannot hear me but I can hear them. I have to turn the phone off and then on again, then call them before they can hear me.  I dont have the phone in a cover as yet. Is anyone else having the same problem and is there a solution?

Since the latest updates to iOS, I'm hearding more issues reported to my company where iPhone users are not able to be routed correctly in our IVR. From the PBX, I'm seeing such as the following example: Callers dialing an extension 312, for example are able to dial 31, but the 2 is not responding on the iPhone. When the caller does eventually get the 2 to go through, the PBX states 31 is an invalid extension, and then registeres the 2 as a new entry, which is our Sales Queue option. I have confirmed this on my iPhone 4S.
Dialing in the main keypas dialer on the iPhone is fine. However, the additional, smaller keypad for IVR nagivation use is not.
IF the keypad is fine on the iphone, but not smaller keyboard whatever that is, what makes it an iphone/Apple or software issue.

  • IPhone 4 Phone Call Issues

About a week ago I noticed my iphone 4 (updated IOS) was having issues with phone calls.  I would make a call to someone and mid-call they could no longer hear me.  In other cases, I made a call to someone and they never could hear me at all.  Other cases, someone calls me and they cannot hear me.  Finally ther are cases where I call someone and mid-call there is a bunch of static and they cannot hear me.
I spoke with Apple and they told me that I needed to restore the phone and install it as a new iPhone.  This should deal with the issue.  I did such steps and then synced the phone and tried to make a call.  The first three calls nobody could hear me.  The next call they could hear me for 2 minutes and then static and nothing.
I have had a new SIM card installed and have reset the network as well.  In reading the Apple Support Community postings, it looks like the only long term solution is to acquire a new phone.  Is there any other solution anyone knows of to help remedy this situation.  I have had the iPhone 4 for 2 years without an issue and in the last week, this crops up.  It has not been in water, it has a case on it, I am not covering up the mics, the speaker phone is off.
Next to getting a new phone, any ideas?

There is nothing to sort out.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue still occurs, take the device to Apple for evaluation as there is obviously a hardware issue.

I use Jabra EasyGo bluetooth headset.
Music streaming is fine with the headset.
Problem is it doesnt respond to any phone call or dial  commands.
Tried it on another friends iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.3 it works
Please help to solve as I depend on the bluetooth my work drives car a lot.

I don't think I can restore the back up from iCloud, because I did not back it up to iCloud before the update to OS 6.1.4.  I don't think this is related to voice samples because it seems to cut in and out, like Siri is not 'hearing' me, due to a problem with the microphone.
    Apple please help!
