Worse battery on edge?

does anyone else lose more battery on the edge network or is my iphone extremely defective?

Hi, I have just bought a new iphone 3GS and the battery dies after about 4 hours without using the phone. I have noticed the little 'E' at the top of the phone and having discovered it is Edge I firmly believe it is eating my phones battery real fast. How do you disable it, any idea?
EDGE is the fallback when you're not on 3G. There is GPRS below EDGE, but I don't believe there's a way to force it to use GPRS.
In any case, something's wrong if your phone is going from full charge to dead in 4 hours on the EDGE network. It should last for days with no usage...

  • 5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?

    ROFL WHAT AN FAKE-PLACEBO!!!!
Yesterday I applied the Fix 5.0.1.
Do you guys remember the "ANTENNAGATE" Fix where Apple was just  has changed the display for the signal bars strength? ROFL?
They did it same here with battery.
After I intsalled the 5.0.1 full discharge and recharge, I´s able to hold the 100% up to 25 min talking/surfing/emailing. After that it drops to 98% instantly, then it continues dropping so fast I cant believe!!! Apple just changed the display of the battery status....

  • 2.1 Update - Worse battery life?

So, I updated to 2.1 Friday, and noticed my iPhone getting warm, and the battery was draining really fast. Over the weekend I tried re-restoring it, and still had it drain really fast. Today, I went in an swapped out the phone, and got back to the office and updated to 2.1 again. Almost the same thing, except within a span of maybe 2 hours, I was down to half battery. I used to go almost 2 days without a charge before, and it was never noticeably warm. What's the deal? Any way to downgrade to 2.0.1 or whatever?

I don't think any of the issues have to do much with build week other than actual defective units. Unlike regular cell phones, iPhones can host so many different applications combinations that it's likely those combinations (and especially how they've been installed can lead to problems). Apple for that reason has tried to keep each application in it's own silo. In the end you can't completey really because the main OS still need to know the software is there.
Anyhow, as for battery issues, software definitely can improve battery life. Not only can you make code more efficient and hence take less clock cycles, on a phone you can tune how the phone communicates with the network. This last part is probably where they potentially squeezed more power for some users by allowing the phone to make a connection with a weaker signal. Depending on where people are and how they use their phone, some of the battery tweaks may do nothing. Personally I think for most users the changes have not done all that much. My battery life seems about the same.

  • Why does my iPad 2 get worse battery life with iOS 7???

This new update has way too much white on the screen even when fully dimmed it seems to use more battery than before. Can there be an update to change that?
And in case anybody asks, NO, my battery has been properly taken care of. Charged perfectly each time. So that's not the issue.

Don't know how much the tips in this article http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/19/ios-7-battery-life-fix/ might help but it's worth a look.

  • Windows 10 Lenovo Settings not detecting battery in Edge 15

Upgraded to Windows 10 on July 30th. No problems. My battery was showing up in conservation mode at 60% and not charging (I always use laptop plugged in). This was the setting in Windows 8.1 and still in Windows 10.  All okay until tonight.
Tonight my battery is showing 100% charged and it's no longer in conservation mode. I opened the new Lenovo Settings for Windows 10 and clicked on Power. It is showing “No Battery Installed.” I unplugged the laptop and it is running just fine on the battery.  I want to put it back in conservation mode but I cannot because Windows 10 Lenovo Settings isn’t detecting the battery even though it is working fine. This article explains what I should be seeing: http://www.improdia.com/tech-tips/lenovo-battery-conservation-windows-10/, I don’t know how to solve this problem and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Hi Chaka,
    Welcome to Sony Community!
Have you watched those local Canadian TV online before upgrading the operating system? This is probably one of the issues of Windows 10 but I cannot confirm that yet since Sony is still testing Vaio computer and updating the drivers and software for Windows 10.
You may try to use a different computer and check if you'll get the same result. If the same then probably the issue is with the website itself.
You may also run Vaio update and Windows update then try to change again the region.

    Vincent

  • Significantly worse battery life on Mavericks

I posted this oringally in another thread and was recommended to start a new one.
I have a mid 2012 mbp and upgraded to mavericks the day it was released from ML.
Since then my battery life has been absolutely horrendous. Get around ~2 hours or so on one charge... Pretty dissapointed. I am super busy so I do not have time or energy to format and reinstall mountain lion until christmas time.
Any advice would be great. I went into terminal and disabled indexing following this guide as recommended in another post:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/stopspotlightindex.html
Still nothing. Activity monitor does not show anything significant running in the background either.
I am pretty upset/****** off as the only benefical thing to me in the OS (of all the new features) was apples claims of increased battery life lol.... that didnt really work out.
    Anyways here are my specs:
    Model Name:
    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:
    MacBookPro9,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:
    2.6 GHz
      Number of Processors:

      Total Number of Cores:
    4
      L2 Cache (per Core):
    256 KB
      L3 Cache:
    6 MB
      Memory:

Let me know if anyone needs any additional specs or anything. I have a 1TB hdd installed as well.

The other thread has degenerated into a predictable and unproductive rant-fest that won't help anyone.
Check your Activity Monitor to determine the relative "Energy Impact" of various apps as in the following:
One or more may be obvious, or not.
Some users have reported an SMC reset to be beneficial. Read SMC reset.
Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem unimportant or trivial.
If your Mac's battery is still draining abnormally fast continue with the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Worse Battery Charge for Mac Pro

I bought my MacBook Pro in August 2009. At first it had a fully charged battery life of 5 hours. Now the maximum battery life being off the power cord it about 2 hours
The Full charge capacity (mAh) is 3754 and is on cycle 469.
How can this be fixed? and is there a way I can get a new one under warranty?
    Thanks
    Em

It can't be fixed, and it probably won't be replaced under warranty (though there's no harm in asking). Your battery has been used very hard — i.e. cycled almost every day — for more than a year and a half, and it's starting to get tired. When it no longer gives you enough running time on a charge to be practical for you to use, buy a new one.

  • Iphone 4 battery sometimes drains fast -- problem with Mail app?

My iphone 4 battery often drains too quickly, and I wonder if it has something to do with my Mail App.
When my phone is not playing nice, it drains at least 20% overnight while on Standby, and from 100% to 30% in around 6 hours when I use it during the day. I found a fix (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11775150) that basically says to wipe your mail account and set it up again.
This fix works, but only temporarily for me. I find that I have to keep resetting my mail every few days to get back to "normal battery" where it barely drains overnight. I only use one email account (gmail) -- could there be something going on there?
Oh, and when my battery drains fast, nothing changes when I turn off WiFi, notifications, push, etc. I usually have my mail refresh hourly.
    Has anyone had this experience?

  • IPhone 4 battery still draining fast after ios 5.0.1 update

5.0.1 update did not help, my battery still drains just as fast as it did on 5.0. My phone used to last 2 days no problem, now it lasts about 6 hours, I could go to bed at 5% and wake up with 3%, now if I got to bed with 25% it's dead by morning. I have all iCloud services turned off, only Maps turned on for location services, notifications for Phone, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, CNBC RT and Words Free. I have 2 email accounts, one is a pop3 and the other Exchange, both are set to pull every hour and preview is turned off. Is the issue with notifications? the only thing that has changed from 4 to 5 is I have notifications turned on and my reminders & tasks are synced with Exchange. I'm starting to think the issue is with notifications, I tried to turn off email notifications for the lock screen but they still show up.
Are we getting another update after 5.0.1 soon for the continued battery drain issue?
Email notifications continue to display for locked screen even though the option says Off, is there something else I'm missing?

  • I'll just live with the terrible battery life on my iPhone 5....

IMHO, each new iPhone has worse battery life than the one before.  I've come to expect this.  They claim the battery is better, but in real life use, this is simply not the case.  I've given up trying to figure it out, I'll bring it into the apple store tomorrow, maybe they'll even swap out the phone for me, but I doubt it will make a difference.  The battery is plain awful, but I'm never far away from a charger, whether it's in my car or office.  I've grown used to it at this point.  Nor am I going to do one of the 10,000 suggestions I keep seeing on here and other forums.  Restore as new?  No thanks, it's just the way I want it, I don't want to spend 6 hours loading everything again.  Turn off location services and apps?  What's the point of offering  a feature if you can't just leave it on and use it?  I have everything (well, almost everything) on.  Wifi, brightness all the way up, location services, it's all on.  Why?  I like using them.  That's why I bought the phone in the first place!
So, the bottom line is: I'll live with it.  I'll live with having to charge it a few times a day, I'll live with the fact that it'll never be perfect.  I will go to the genius bar just for the heck of it, there are issues with iCloud not backing up, and wifi not as strong as the 4S, and sometimes the usage and standby times are identical, so perhaps mine is defective, but I doubt it'll make much difference.  Sure, 6.1, or 6.0.1 will be released soon to address these issues, as I'm convinced this is mostly a software issue, but at this point I'm done trying to figure this out.

    Hello there, EdisonGurraj.
The following Knowledge Base article should provide you with assistance in what steps to take to troubleshoot your iPhone's battery life:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

    Speifically:
    Battery life seems short
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.
    Cheers,

  • Battery Life suddenly reduced

Hi. Beginning a little over a week ago my battery life suddenly reduced by about half. My iPhone is warmer now, even when it's not in use. It wasn't coincident with anything I noticed, e.g. no new iOS release, no change in application use. I've reviewed my Location Services, no unexpected grey GPS symbols (and no purple of course). Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this?

  • Is it better for your battery if you let it run down all the way and then charge it? Or to charge it whenever you have the opportunity?  Which is better for the life of the battery?

I was wondering it the life of the battery would last longer if you let the battery run down all the way and then charge it? Or to charge it whenever you have the opportunity even if it doesn't have a low battery?  Which is better for the life of the battery and prolong the life of the battery?

I've had a iPhone 4s since March 2012, and it's battery is pretty useless now.  I was using the app Battery Doctor (Battery Saver, Battery Life) by Beijing Kingsoft Internet Security software, which encourages the user to charge more often, whenever battery life drops below 100% full and greater than 20% full, and gives ratings according to the number of full, partial & overcharges done, but I'm concerned that charging like that actually results in worse battery life??
I now have an new iPhone 5 and don't want the battery to only last as short as the last one did
    Any advice/comments please

  • Is there anyone with *better* battery performance on the 3GS?

OK, there are a lot of posts complaining about the 3GS battery life. I'm now curious to find out if there's a bad batch of batteries, or if it's a software issue involving all iPhone 3GS.
My question: is there anyone out there who's getting better battery performance on the 3GS when compared to the 3G, as advertised by Apple?
I understand that there are at least 3 kinds of battery issues showing up in this forum:
    1. abysmal battery life caused by Exchange Push acting up
    2. defective battery
    3. "it seems a little worse than the 3G, something must be wrong"
There's nothing that can be done for categories 1 and 2, and I think it's interesting to talk about case 3.
Could it be that the 3GS battery indicator is simply more linear (and better calibrated) than the one on the 3G? I am one of those people experiencing subjectively worse battery life on my 3GS when compared to the 3G. But then I stopped and asked myself how I actually measure this.
Well, the difference is that the 3G stays at 100% much longer, then starts to go down very quickly. The 3GS, on the other hand, doesn't like staying at 100% and starts going down earlier but slower. But if I let them both drain, the performance at the end of the day will probably seem similar.
I tried to drain my 3GS with some heavy Safari surfing over WiFi and 3G, 30 minutes of 3G calls, using some third party apps, and with a 1-hour Peggle play. Then I finally played some videos, and it went dead after 5 hours of usage and 15 hours of stand by.
Is that the performance that can be expected, or can we hope for more? I never did the same test on the 3G, because I never noticed the battery meter going down like that, but I'm pretty sure it would turn out quite similar.
    What do you think?

Battery performance depends on what you have running on your iPhone.
e.g. If you have Brightness set to high (or full) with Auto Dimming Disabled, Locations Services, Push Notification (set Fetch to Manually), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (ask to join networks enabled too) and 3G all enabled your battery will get used a lot quicker, especially if you use Third Party Apps on top of all these other things.
If however you activate Wi-Fi when you want to use it, or Bluetooth etc as your needs require, battery performance will be better (as in your battery will last longer before requiring a charge). If you are on a low 3G coverage area, why have your iPhone constantly trying to join a 3G network? Switch 3G off and use the conventional carrier (2G) until you return to an area where you know 3G coverage is better.
I know these measures are less convenient than just having everything switched on, but if you want to maximise battery use between charges try activating the features you require when you require them, then disable them when you don't require them instead of having everything switched on permanently.
I have noticed when Push is enabled (3G has to be enabled also), it absolutely canes the battery
