Worst problem ever..(no joke)

Hello, first off, I request that I recieve serious replies only. I am NOT computer-illiterate.
I have no warranty for these speakers, and since they are already non-operational, I guess I can try whatever to get them to work.
The problem:
I've had these speakers for about a year now. I bought them off eBay new. Box was NOT opened. They have worked perfectly up until now. Starting a few weeks ago, my sound would just randomly stop and not work. The control pod would show that they were on, but during the middle of a song or so, the speakers would just be "muted". All sound stopped working. Now, the problem is far worse. I'm afraid I'm screwed on this one. When I have the speakers on, whether playing music or sound of any kind or not, the sub will make a REALLY loud pounding sound, and the speakers will shut off. The control pod lights will ALL turn off (including the red standby light) and I will not be able to turn it back on. A minute or so after that, the speakers will turn back on again, as if they were reset. The control pod will start back up in standby mode. All the settings are reset. If I turn it back on right when that happens, it will shut off again; if I wait about an extra minute, it'll work again. When it starts working again, the process starts all over. It will just randomly shut off. The big bass boom and everything.
-I have the Creative Gigaworks s750 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System.
-I have not changed any settings on my computer.
-I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.
-I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card.
-I have a 550-Watt Power Supply.
-I have not changed any hardware or even opened the computer for that matter.
-I am NOT computer-illiterate, so please do not respond with any answers that would be normally directed to somebody new to computers. However, I am somewhat illiterate with any advanced problems that have to do with this speaker hardware.
-Any rational response will be GREATLY appreciated. If what you say works, heck, I may even send you some money via PayPal because right now, I feel these speakers are done for.
Thank you for your time to read this.

Hmm, this is weird. First things first, though, that loud pounding sound also occured with my old Altec Lansing speakers when I'd kill the power without turning them off. It seems to be a sound that happens when the power is instantly cut off to the speakers without them having a chance to properly shut down. I'm fairly sure this is the problem. What is causing it to instantly shut off without uninitializing first, I do not know, but here are my ideas.
You might try using one set of stereo speakers (even headphones would probably work) and moving it from each output jack to another (unless you are using digital?). This will be able to determine whether it could be a surge through the output of the sound card that is causing the sound system to automatically shut off to avoid damage. Using another 5. system works fine as well if you've got one and you're using digital.
It could also be a problem in the electrical system of your house. Is the speaker system on a different circuit than the computer? Also, if you have a UPS back up system then you might check to make sure it is not overloaded. If a UPS unit is overloaded, some will refuse to provide power to some connections at times, others will provide power at all times but any electrical power problem that occurs, it will not have enough battery power to power everything so some will be cut off. Another thing to try if you have a UPS is checking for a "Building Wiring Fault" light somewhere. I know most (if not all) of APC's UPSes have these lights, whether on the plug or on the back of the system itself.
In the event that it is the sound system itself, there are a couple things to try. First of all, when I got my Gigaworks G500 system, one of the pins for the control pod connector was bent. The volume would turn off and the pod controls did absolutely nothing. However, in this case plugging headphones into the headphone jack on the pod still worked. Once in a while the speakers would pop on and then back off. You should check each pin in the connector, and the other connectors for that matter, very carefully to make sure none are bent.
A good idea might be to unscrew the back panel of your subwoofer (or wherever your power supply is) and look around for, say, a blown fuse or some dark discoloration where a short may have occured. This will probably be on the micro-card inside the power supply, though you could also try looking at each speaker for a problem of this sort. A short in any speaker could cause a problem, though I am not sure how to open the individual speakers. On the subject of shorts, make sure none of the copper part of the wires are touching each other at the connections into the speakers.
It could also be a problem of overheating. This would explain why it has to wait a minute or so before coming back on, because if it was still overheated then it would instantly shut off. It would make since that it takes about a minute for it to cool. If your subwoofer (power supply) is in some sort of encasing, or up against a wall, this is quite likely. As a test, you should move the subwoofer (power supply) out into the open, and if you have a fan somewhere keep that attached. I would not recommend putting a bag of icecubes against the back because if it leaks or something it could electrocute you, but you might be okay if you make sure it won't electrocute you or drip into the system. See if this keeps it on longer.
If absolutely nothing works, you could try replacing all the wires: power cord, speaker wires, and PC-to-speaker system connection.
You should check the instruction manuals for the speaker system. At the very minimum, even after warranty expires I believe you can still submit a support request to the official Creative employees. This would probably be a good idea if you haven't tried it. The problem is obviously not software, though. It is somewhere in the hardware of something.
I hope this helps, though I am guessing you are correct in saying that you are screwed.

  • Blackberry Pearl- Why it's the worst phone ever made

Here's why I think the Blackberry Pearl is the worst phone ever made.
    1. I can't get photo's off of it. My G1 takes a few seconds. I've worked with this Pear for hours upon hours cannot get my photo's off of it. The Desktop manager really bites too no help there. I really dislike this phone. The software just as bad. I guess they were on the move when Desktop manager was getting written.
    2. The phone on occasions would lock on letters instead of numbers. There wasn't an intuitive way to get it unlocked. I found it more intuitive to get a my return from the IRS than it was to get the phone back to dialing numbers.
I'm having my kids dress up as a Blackberry Pearl for Halloween. I'm going to make a Halloween Movie Freddy Kruger attacks people with Blackberry Pearl the topper scene features unsuspecting Pearl user getting tied up and has them attempt to copy their photos off to a PC and the video gets put on Youtube for Christmas.
    Very unsatisfied with your product.
    Don Quixote

I want to join the fun here and list all the different reasons why I'm very unsatisfied with this phone.
The actual phone part of this phone is pretty slow.  It accepts a phone number almost 3 times slower than I can type it in.  Even typing a name on their handy search bar takes forever to get a result.  If I type to fast, it just ignores a couple of my numbers so I have to delete and retype, at the same super slow pace.  I'm guessing that it searches all sorts of contact and history lists to give me cool suggestions, and that's what makes it so slow.  Either way, it irritates me to no end that the basic reason I have this thing is slow as dirt.
All 3rd Party and Blackberry apps require the Blackberry data service.  Even though there's WIFI on this phone, you simply can't connect to anything except the Browser (and even the Browser requires some setting changes to bypass the upsell screen).  This phone CAN do 3rd party services and other applications without the Blackberry data service, but they just don't allow you to.
Sometimes my phone just turns off.  I don't normally mind the 3 minute boot up process, but when I'm in the middle of something and my phone turns off for no reason, it just compounds my frustration.
The keyboard freezes up all the time.  After a good 1-5 minute "please wait clock", I finally get a message saying there was an error and my input application had to be reset.  Sometimes it doesn't quite reset all the way and I have to pull the battery and again wait for the long boot up process.
Its a little unreliable.  Besides the phone turning off at random and the keyboard freezing, I still have problems other problems.  My bluetooth turns off and sometimes doesn't come back.  Once I had to get a new phone sent to me in order to correct that problem.  Pressing buttons doesn't always get a response, especially the green "call" button.  If the phone is bogged down, it just ignored commands, which is pretty frustrating especially if you press a button and accidently double enter a command that is both the "on" and "off" options.  Also, sometimes the screen fades out (like its suppose to) but doesn't come back when you press keys.  Or the external notifications just don't turn on.  It somestimes just doesn't read my memory card.  The zoom feature on my camera also got stuck.
Other small gripes involve having no caps lock, the SureType never learning from my typing ("Hey" always goes out as "Get"), its overall slowness, the looseness of the back casing, the low quality camera, and so much more.
I don't suggest this phone to anyone.

    touch screen Problem...and so on....

I contributed to this thread earlier:
     http:///t5/Cseries/C3-01-Problems-and-Limitations/m-p/1050133/highlight/false#M20370
Since then I've resolved the WAP problem; but as the OP has stated, the problems I've had with mine have been far and away more than all the phones I've had in the past -combined!
It fails on calls (I'm paying of the call, but nothing can be heard)..Today my touchscreen decided to go AWOL. and locked up..so I took out the battery, same again..then the battery AND the SIM card. Same again..It wouldn't unlock, the only buttons that worked were the push button ones...Then it decided it would work a little, and auto scrolled (Yes really!) the side bar..The it defaulted to the help screen without being touched (Battery out again)...then it worked as it should..but now...if I try to press an icon, it moves up the screen as I press it, so I can't actually open (for example) messages or my address book. If I hold the menu icon down for three seconds, it will eventually open up, but the rest won't..but it might all change in an hour or two..So yes, i agree with the original message it is probably the worse phone Nokia has released.

  • Beyond frustrated with worst computer ever

I think I may have the most unlock/worst macbook pro ever created. Hang with me here.
Background: Back in February my computer started becoming unresponsive and i went to the Apple store and turns out i had a dent in the side of my computer, an impact that likely busted the hard drive. Got that fixed and my computer ran great.....until about three weeks ago. Same thing started to happen again (stuff stopped working, lots of pinwheels, computer becoming completely unresponsive), I take it in again and lo and behold, there is another dent in the side of the computer, damaging the hard drive.....again. My computer barely leaves my desk other than to take it to class in a protective case, so this is perplexing to me, but i get it fixed anyways.
Everything is all good for a day or two and it starts happening again. Great. The pinwheel shows up constantly, pages stop loading and crash almost every page...forcing me to manually power down the computer almost every time with the power button. Computer isn't even usable at this point. I go in to the apple store....again....and they tell me the last repair missed the real problem: the cable attaching to the hard drive. They fix this for free and i'm excited because this should be my ticket to a workable computer! Two days later....same problems again. Computer functions briefly well, then just completely freezes up, pages start crashing, and buttons (wifi, battery, finder arrow keys) start vanishing. I call Apple this time, on the phone, and they tell me what the 'REAL' problem is! When they went to fix the hard drive, they copied a portion of my hard drive onto it to save some of my info, and that portion was likely corrupted and so THAT is the problem! I deleted my hard drive info with the help of the Apple guy and reinstalled the OS software, in essence a brand-new computer and OS system.....with a week old hard drive.
Everything was going great, computer was running faster than ever for a few days and occasionally a page would crash or computer would become unresponsive every ten or so hours, nothing like before, so I thought 'this is normal, my computer is finally okay. Last night, the same problems from before came back. The pinwheel progressively appeared more, pages started crashing almost every load, it took 10-15 min for my computer to start up and for the apps to show up, buttons (their text) on the top right of the screen and on finder are completely gone...again, the app store doesn't load and just produces a grey screen, etc, etc. My computer is fast for about half an hour, then just becomes completely unresponsive again and I have to manually power it down.
Chrome also loses all my log-ins every time the computer gets turned off, despite my settings being set to 'remember me' and in the past never having this problem.
tl;dr my computer has been 'repaired' three separate times in the last two weeks with three different solutions and is still at times completely unusable, crashing, buttons vanishing, etc. Worst computer ever. What is the issue?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • Worst Service Ever! Who can I talk to next?

    WORST SERVICE EVER!
I recently went to the Masonville apple store for service on my apple iPhone 5. The speakers blew on it, making music or sounds sound fuzzy and diminished, and after running diagnostics, my battery health was found to be right on the line of "needs replacing and dying"( apparently not good enough). After speaking to the tech, my phone was sent to the back for repair and I was told to wait 30 minutes for it to be done. After returning 45 minutes later, and waiting another 20 after i was somehow lost in the line of other customers waiting to purchase their $900 devices. I understand sometimes things don't always go to plan, so I didn't make a complaint or anything. It was only after getting my iPhone back from repair, only to have the speakers still blown that I started to become fed up. They blamed a small chip in the back of my phone as the cause of my speaker problems. How does non conductive glass interfere with the electromagnetic signals that speakers use to generate sound? Even if glass did somehow short out my phone, that would cause the speakers to not work at all, rather than just loose a great deal of quality. My question now is, what is the next level of apple hierarchy I can deal with because the Masonville store clearly does not seem to be running at the standards that apple claims to posses.

they blamed a small chip in the back of my phone as the cause of my speaker problems. How does non conductive glass interfere with the electromagnetic signals that speakers use to generate sound?
It doesn't. But a chip indicates some sort of impact or drop which is most likely what the technician was referring to being the cause of the speaker problem, not that the glass is damaged.
what is the next level of apple hierarchy I can deal with.
You can try another Apple Store, if there's one in your area, or calling Apple Support and asking to speak with Customer Relations. But if the technician has logged this as being a situation of accidental damage, there's probably nothing they can do.
    Good luck.

  • EA6500 HELP WORST ROUTER EVER!

Okay first off this is the worst $200 for what I thought was suppose to be a superior router.
okay this is whats up.  Since I first got the router last year it's been stuck on version 1.1.28.146856 and can never update it.  when it says the router will reboot it shows there's no internet connection for the longest time and I have to unplug it to reset it and 50/50 chance it says it's updated then later when I come back it's still not updated and yes I unzipped the file cause auto update doesn't do anything.
Plus on top of that I have to reset my router every 24/hrs and sometimes less with whats suppose to hold multiple devices. (which maybe only 4 are connected)
I went from a little netgear 150 to my first linksys cisco and unless this can be fixed this is the worst router ever.
I've given this thing long enough time and I've researched how to fix the problem and all forums are saying either return it and try again or it's junk chunk it in the fire it's worthless.

every so often since I get tired of having to unplug the power and back in so I can get internet connection.  Forgot to add I also have the RE1000 which I believe does nothing.  Also the front where it lites up cisco is always flashing on and off as well.  I've also maybe factory reset it twice in the year I've had it but it doesn't act any different even if I do.

  • Worst PS ever...

Before I begin my rant, apologies in advance to all PS CS4 fans, apologists, and Adobe employees. And please, no offhand assumptions about my experience level or lack of effort to get things running smoothly.
But, in the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, I'm compelled to say that CS4 is the "worst Photoshop ever".
I've been a PS user since version 3.0, have upgraded to every version since, and use Photoshop professionally as a photographer and graphic artist. When I moved to CS4, however, I never expected to encounter so many issues on so many fronts. I've fiddled with preferences, followed tips from this forum to "fix" GPU glitches, upgraded video drivers religiously, and remained mostly silent for 7 months since upgrading in hopes of eventually overcoming the legion of problems.
Sadly, I've been reduced to starting every CS4 session trembling with fear and bracing myself for frustration. Or, just slinking back to CS3 and actually getting some work done without heart palpitations.
Here are just a few of my own unresolved issues, many of which I think stem from Adobe's misguided decision to "roll their own" GUI in lieu of simply using the Windows APIs. (I'll reserve my opinion on how this homegrown grey-on-grey GUI happens to look and feel...)
    First, the DELAYS.
Making a selection, moving or resizing a window, painting; all these actions and more are preceded by a soul-wrenching delay of from 1 to 3 seconds. "Click - wait - wait - wait - drag". And no, my desktop is NOT underpowered (9 months old, Core 2 Quad CPU, 4GB RAM, RAID0 drives, running Vista SP1). Everything in CS4 (and ONLY CS4) is just slow, slow, slow.
Then those user interface "upgrades" ... death by a thousand cuts. Drop a file into PS? It's docked, even though I always work with floating windows. So I gotta tear it away, EVERY TIME. No choice in preferences.
And finally there's the "slow fuse". I'll work for an hour or two, and then BOOM. CS4 suddenly and completely loses track of where my mouse is, how fast it's moving, which buttons I've clicked, or where I've positioned the cursor. I'll start a selection box in the middle of an image and it snaps one edge to a random margin. Or the box defaults to a pixel-wide line. Or the brush size balloons to 500 pixels in diameter. Or the image zooms to 800% even though I'm not anywhere near the zoom tool.
There is NO WAY to work at this point, so I have to shut down PS, restart it and relight the slow fuse, working feverishly until things go haywire again. Now, this is NOT an issue with my hardware or the mouse. I've upgraded mouse drivers, tried two new mice (corded and wireless), all fruitless. These mouse issues don't occur in any other applications and I run some high-end CAD apps on this box.
OK, I'm done for now. Rant over. I feel a little better, getting it out of my system. I'll keep hoping Adobe will eventually address some of the more common issues.
Perhaps my particular PC is just unwilling to run CS4, though it runs everything else I throw at it without issue (including some legacy software I wouldn't expect to run at all). Maybe I'm just having some bad luck.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I'm gonna grab a beer and go hum a pleasant tune in the dark.

    >But, in the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, I'm compelled to say that CS4 is the "worst Photoshop ever".
    >I've been a PS user since version 3.0, have upgraded to every version since
I too have used PS since ver 3.0 and have upgraded to every edition except when they had an x.5 release. I've just upgraded to an i7 machine with 6 GB DDR3 and a Saphire ATI 4850 with 1 GB of RAM. My system and programs are on a 10,000 RPM VelociRaptor and I have two other 1T Seagates (all SATA II). I'm running 32 bit XP Pro SP 3. I had a few problems with the initial CS4 release and my original video drivers with OpenGL support, but since upgrading to the latest versions and optimizing my system per the Adobe instructions (Optimize performance of Photoshop CS4 on Windows XP and Vista), I've never had better Photoshop performance and have not seen the need to use RAID.
There must be something wrong with your system. You don't say what graphics card and driver you are using, but, as others have pointed out, many problems are related to the video card and driver. As to the mouse, what mouse are you using and are you using the built in windows drivers or the additonal software provided by the mouse vendor? I've had some trouble with my desktop Logitech wireless USB mouse. Windows will happily allow more than one mouse to be operative. I have an inexpensive Logitech USB mouse for laptops. When I have trouble (currently resolved), I would merely plug in the USB laptop mouse, which uses the built in Windows drivers and use the extra mouse, avoiding any need to reboot.

  • 16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What

16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What happened?what do I do now??????? Help!

Note that you don't have a Mac Pro as stated. Your profile says you have a MacBook Pro. Please clarify as they are entirely different computers. If nothing below works for you, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    * Constantly reboots
    * Constantly drops data connection
    * Totally ignores third-party email for about an hour on its own which is absolutely CRITICAL.
    * Will only get email immediately when its powered down, then up.
    * 3G coverage blows.
I HATE AT&T and APPLE, but I miss my iPhone already and its only been a week.  But it WORKED, ALWAYS.
They should renamer this the ROID X, because it is a PITA ***!
I had a bag phone in the '90's that worked better than this.

SKH. Can you read? I have my doubts.
There is a difference in asking someone to not make generalizations and asking someone to calm down. I did the former. As I am doing to you. The both of you are calling people like me liars. Fair?
And both of you need to exchange your phones and stop kicking the general population in the teeth because we have phones that work. Geri O
Gerio??? Can I give you negative Kudo's for that one?
SKH was on YOUR side!!!  Wow.  He did NOT ask you to calm down he said to "ignore the people telling you to calm down and exchange the phone.
    You are one paranoid bloke.

Go into preferences and under playback turn off background render. That helped speed things for me when working with large files.
