Wpa_passphrase trouble (both parts SOLVED)

wpa_passphrase won't generate a key if the ESSID has a space in the name.
For example:
wpa_passphrase Namewith Aspace "secretpassphrase" > /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
It outputs into the file:
Passphrase must be 8..63 characters
I don't have access to change the router's name.
Do I need to insert a special character between the two words or do something else instead?

Thanks, that worked and will be useful in other terminal problems I've had.
But now I have a new problem when I try to connect.
After I added the settings required for WPA2, I used the following command:
iwconfig wlan0
The ESSID was there but the Access Point was not associated.
And when I tried connecting with:
dhcpcd wlan0
My results are:
dhcpcd: wlan0: waiting for carrier
dhcpcd: wlan0: carrier acquired
dhcpcd: wlan0: carrier lost
dhcpcd: wlan0: waiting for carrier
dhcpcd: wlan0: carrier acquired
dhcpcd: wlan0: carrier lost
It repeats until it times out.
I've been able to connect to the router when there used to be no encryption on my earlier installs so I think my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf settings are wrong.
network={
ssid="thessid"
proto=RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwise=CCMP TKIP
group=CCMP TKIP
#psk="thepassword"
psk=generatedkey
I also tried waiting for the association to happen before using the dhcpcd command but it never does.

    FaceTime is free to use. You will not be charged for using FaceTime.

    ALSO, on the iPod under Settings>General>iTunes Sync, you may need to back out of the "iTunes Wi-fi Sync," and reopen it to get it to update.

    Have you tried resetting the iPad:
    Reset iPad:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

    Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, the tiny triangle is not visible.

  • [Partly solved] Nouveau driver crashes, nvidia-libgl-beta problem etc.

    I had the same issue as in thread 1446984 but disabling USB 3.0 in BIOS did not solve the problem.
    I have a new install, and are getting complete freezes on shutdown, but also on switching to another tty than the graphical (freeze after 1-20 seconds after switching tty). This is reproducible 100% of the time.
    I were also getting errors about nouveau, and thought the tty switching freezes might be related to that.
    This was correct, since installing the nvidia-beta driver solved that problem (but not the shutdown issues).
    As a side note, I also had some minor problems installing nvidia-libgl-beta which is a dependency for nvidia-beta.
    Trying to install it with aura gave the following error:
    $ sudo aura -A nvidia-libgl-beta
    [sudo] password for rix:
    aura >>= The following are not AUR packages:
    nvidia-libgl-beta
    aura >>= No valid packages specified.
    Installing it manually from the tarball in AUR seemed to work, but when I tried to install nvidia-beta it complained about nvidia-libgl-beta missing, and it's not in the output of pacman -Q !
    Trying to reinstall it works as well, and pacman says it is reinstalling with net upgrade size 0.
    I removed nvidia-libgl-beta as a dependency from the nvidia-beta PKGBUILD and installed it, it seems to work at least, no more tty switch crashes.
    Also, after installing there is no nvidia*.pkg.tar.xz files in /var/cache/pacman/pkg/. Maybe these are put somewhere else?
    dmesg (includes nouveau errors but it's the "ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x000000000000f040-0x000000000000f05f conflicts with OpRegion ..." line I believe is the interesting one):

    keyboard and mouse are now auto-detected. Do you have xf86-input-evdev installed? If so, you do not need to explicitly set the drivers for keyboard and mouse in xorg.conf. You can try it out if you like.

  • Having trouble selecting part of a movie

    hi,
    have just upgraded to qt pro.
    am trying to select part of an existing movie (a .mpg in this case),
    in order do some editing.
    i can't get the selection in and out indicators to show up in the
    player window in order to do the selection.
    i followed help instructions re unchecking the 'hide selection
    indicators for empty selection.'
    but doesn't help.
    can anyone give us any help please...
    thanks,
    tony

    can anyone give us any help please...
    QT Pro is working normally here. Multiplexed compression formats like MPG (MPEG-1) are "playback only" supported by the QT structure. They cannot be edited or converted (and retain audio). If you wish to select a portion of such files, use the free MPEG Streamclip application. Selected content can then either be saved using the "Save As..." option or converted to a fully supported compression format (and retain audio).

  • [partly SOLVED] Controlling the uswsusp s2both feature with acpid

    Hi,
    I am currently using uswsusp on my laptop to suspend to both disk and RAM, which works flawlessly by using the
    $ s2both
    command.
    Now, I would like to use acpid to execute that command and also lock my screen using my display manager which is xdm, whenever I close the lid of my laptop and resume once I open it again.
    passing
    acpi_listen
    and then closing and opening the lid gives me:
    button/lid LID close
    button/lid LID open
    Next I created the following file: /etc/acpi/events/lid_close
    It contains:
    event=button/lid LID close.*
    action=/etc/acpi/actions/lid_close.sh "%e"
    The problem is, that I have no idea what the corresponding lid_close.sh script would need to look like in order to do what I want it to do.
    I'm aware that I would need an additional event file for the opening of the lid and a corresponding script, but for now I would be happy with automating the suspension/lock process and resuming manually using the power button.
    Hopefully you can help me with this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Ok.
    my /etc/acpi/events/anything file now looks like this:
    # Pass all events to our one handler script
    event=button/lid LID close.*
    action=/etc/acpi/handler.sh %e
    My /etc/acpi/handler.sh looks like this
    button/lid)
    case "$3" in
    close)
    #echo "LID closed!">/dev/tty5
    s2both
    open)
    #echo "LID opened!">/dev/tty5
    esac
    and it works!
    Didn't think it would be that easy. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction nierro!
    Now I just need to figure out how to return to xdm instead of my WM upon resume.

  • Commit both parts of a "references" association together

    I'm running JDev 11.1.2.3.0.
    I have an Entity Association between TABLE_A and TABLE_B Entities in a 0..1 -> * references relationship. I will either be creating just a record in TABLE_B or records in both TABLE_B and TABLE_B.
    When creating records in both Entities I want both records to form an atomic transaction; either commit both or rollback. The problem is that if I try to commit both at the same time, the child record won't insert because the parent PK has changed from the temporary negative number. If I set the Association to be a Composite Association, committing both records together works, but I am then unable to commit a single record in TABLE_B on it's own.
    What is the recommended solution for this situation?
    Many thanks

    The referencing field in the "child" table isn't mandatory. This is why I really want to use a references association, I just couldn't get it working so I tried the composition association.
    The relationship is TABLE_A 0..1 -> * TABLE_B. The two are independent; I'm either going to insert into both tables or just TABLE_B.
    What I'm trying to do is the equivalent of:
    INSERT INTO TABLE_A()
    VALUES()
    RETURNING ID INTO TABLE_A_ID_VAR;
    INSERT INTO TABLE_B(TABLE_A_ID)
    VALUES(TABLE_A_ID_VAR);
    COMMIT;
    or just
    INSERT INTO TABLE_B()
    VALUES;
    COMMIT;
    I don't understand how one does the two table insert with TABLE_B referencing TABLE_A in ADF. If I try to do that with just a "references" association, I see TABLE_B FK is initially populated with the temporary negative ID of TABLE_A, but isn't updated on COMMIT with the actual ID.

  • S/MIME Encryption: Need Same CA for Both Parties?

    Hello,
    I created a root certificate authority (CA) using Keychain.app which I then used to issue a certificate to give to a friend. She can send me emails signed with the certificate; yet I, who have a certificate from a different CA (Thawte), cannot encrypt emails between her and me. Why? Must we both have certificates issued from the same CA to send encrypted emails to each other?
    Thank you

    I'm having the same issue. Some emails come in fine while others prompt me with an "unable to decrypt" despite having the valid certificates in my keychain.app.
    Also, I no longer see the cert/encrypt button when composing a new email.
    Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thank you.

  • A Campocatino-Foto has high Gamma:Parts too bright,parts too dark.The parts are irregularly separated.How can I manage? I tried to use "Lasso" to mark both parts,but I couldn't change Gamma separately!???

    As written above:
    I want to make a foto in some areas brighter,in some areas darker,so that the structure is better to be seen.
    I made the whole foto brighter, thenI "caught" the brighter part with Lasso-function to make it darker.But this didn't work!!

    If you have a RAW version of the photo, you can adjust the shadow and highlight contrast in Adobe Camera Raw.  Later versions of PS also allows you to open jpgs and other file formats in ACR, so you can use these adjustments.

  • [PART SOLVED] Random j, k characters appearing on lines. A vim issue?

    Hi There,
    I recently noticed that when scrolling around a file using the keys j and k in normal mode that random j and k characters appear at the end of lines. Initially I thought this was a terminal issue so I switched terminals, no luck. I removed all erroneous crap from .vim, no luck. I have googled around a bit, and it appears this is a known issue with jslint, but this is occuring with no plugins. Ctrl-l removes the random characters, and they don't appear to be getting written to the file, but it is annoying non the less.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply. In my case, it appears more frequent when you scroll back and forth over pages using j and k. I haven't noticed anything with the 'O' command but I will keep an I out. I haven't been able to find the root cause of this, nor have I found any 'real' fixes so I either deal with it or use emacs with VIM bindings. I'll consider this closed.

  • Problem partly solved: iPhoto slide shows on iPod

    I have had my iPod 60 GB for a couple of days now and was first a bit shocked that iPhoto slide shows are not visible and displayable on the iPod, since I'd like to show my iPhotos thru the iPod on a TV set.
    This is all the more non-understandable since slide shows are only small control files in the end that control order, duration, transitions etc. of slides that are physically there on the iPod already.
    Since I want pictures to be displayed on an iPod slide show in a particular order (the one I arranged in iPhoto) I tried different things (after not having found a solution in various forums) and, voila, here is a solution:
    Just put the images you want to include in the iPod slide show into an iPhoto album (not into a slide show; iPhoto albums are shown on the iPod, while iPhoto slide shows aren't). Then rearrange the order of the pics within the iPhoto album to your heart's content via drag and drop. This at least works in iPhoto 6, don't know whether this applies to earlier versions.
    Finally, sync the iPod via iTunes, and you'll find your album with the correct order of pics on the iPod, playable of course as an iPod slide show.
    So, I still don't see my older iPhoto slides shows, which is a pity, but at least for now and the future (until Apple provides an upgrade to iPhoto and/or iPod, HELLO, APPLE, someone awake??) it works for me.
    I hope this helps some of you who were as desperate as I was...
    Cheers Jochen

    The timing is probably not ignored but it is likely that transitions are applied differently on the tv and may take a different length of time to occur. Still the effect is the same and unfortunately it's not too pretty. Which is why I chose to stick with simply syncing photos and not slideshows a long time ago.
