Write a file on client from java procedure
Hello to all, my problem is that i want to write a file from a java procedure using the normal java class. But when i try to write
File file=new File("C:\\DiscoD\\myFile.txt");
FileWriter fw=new FileWriter(file);
fw.write("ciao");
nothing happens and no file is created. How can i write a file on my pc client from java procedure?
Thanks to anyone that want helps me.
I want to write a java procedure loading java class on oracle with utility loadjava and this work for example for classical Hello World. Now i want to write data on a text file on my hard disk using class java calling the procedure for example in this mode:
begin
procedure('ciao'); //this procedure have to write on a file located on my pc the word ciao
end;
But nothing happens. Why? There is a special reason related to how oracle works(privileges, permission etc)?
Thanks

Java applet writes to file on client, no signing necessary
Hi,
I wonder if this is a feature or bug:
I download and execute in my browser an unsigned applet/jar myCharts.jar from server. The applet references classes from package org.jfree.chart, which are not packed in myCharts.jar downloaded from server, but are locally stored on client in jre/lib/ext/jfreechart.jar (and therefore JVM running the applet loads and uses these local classes from local jar).
The applet can write the file to client disk without any problem using classes from locally loaded jfreechart.jar. If I merge both jars into a big one and load it through network, file write access is forbidden.
I am using JRE 1.5.0.3 for Windows and default java_policy file with 2 permissions added:
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "accessDeclaredMembers";
permission java.lang.reflect.ReflectPermission "suppressAccessChecks";
Is it a bug, or feature ?
According to my opinion these 2 permissions should not result in applet ability to write files using locally loaded classes.
Thanks for your answer

In short, you cannot write to a server without help from servier-side software such as a servlet, cgi, ASP, etc.
If you go with something like an Oracle database on your server, it's a non-issue because the seucirty aspects are taken care of for you.

End-of-communication channel while executing sqlldr from java procedure
Hi all,
I am having 10g 10.1.0.3.1 ( Infrastructure ) on linux, I am executing Sql Loader
( sqlldr ) from client (XP) using java stored procedure. After loading the data I am getting Error - ( end-of-communication channel). But same java procedure is working fine without any error on 10g without (Infrastructure). Is this problem is becuase of infrastructure or some patch has to be installed on the database. For my satisfaction I reinstalled java Virtual Machine on database with the help of
( initjvm.sql ). But problem is still there. Any idea what exactly the problem is.
SKMThis is the most frequently asked question from Oracle developers.. Never mind putting some light on this error, I want to put it alight! ;-)
First thing. It is not The Error. It is a sympton of an error.
This message does not come from the database. It comes from the client OCI (of JDBC) drivers - which suddenly discovered that the Oracle connection (usually a TCP socket connection) has been torn down at the server side. It attempts to write to that socket, only to find that the other party has hung up.
Why has the other party hung up? That party is either a Dedicated Server Process or a Dispatcher Process. If a dedicated server dies (crashes), it will take its socket handles with it to The Great Recycle Bin In The Sky. If you was serviced by a shared server and it died, the Dispatcher (who handles the TCP comms for it), will automatically close that shared server's connection.
Usually when a process dies on the Oracle server, it leaves behind an error in the alert log, and trace files. That is where you will find the inklings of what The Error was that caused your client to get the EOF on comms channel message. -
Write to file on server from app
Am trying to write to a file on server from an application like this:
java.net.URL url = new java.net.URL("http://www.rikif.dk/test.txt");
URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
conn.setUseCaches(false);
conn.setDoOutput(true);
PrintStream out =
new PrintStream(conn.getOutputStream());
out.print("sdfsdf");
out.flush();
out.close();
But nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?No exceptions.. "Unlike other output streams, a PrintStream never throws an IOException".
You can write a file through HTTP into a web server? It does not make sense really.. is the file writable in the web server?
And why be writable - anyone would be able to write it then.
You can achieve that through sockets. A java program on the remote machine (playing the role of a server) would accept data through a socket from the clients, and would write the files itself.. without need of web servers.
You can use a tomcat server, and use a servlet, again to accept data and write the files itself.

Error running My Web Service Client From java
Hi,
I have developed and successfully compiled my webservice using the fromjava programming model that comes pre-packed with Jwsdp 2.0. I ran the sample/from java sucessfully and it rn okay. I also wrote a small weservice that just concatenated 2 strings and that worked well as also. However when I implemented more complex functionality in my IMPL clas i.e calling other classes in the IMPL's package and other imported packages, I get the error below when I run my client, which was built successfully.
Exception in thread "main" javax.xml.ws.soap.SOAPFaultException: Unknown fault type:class java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
[java] at com.sun.xml.ws.encoding.soap.ClientEncoderDecoder.toMessageInfo(ClientEncoderDecoder.java:82).............
I built both the server and the client with the ant tool e.g
<install DIR>\Sun\jwsdp-2.0\apache-ant\bin\ant server
<install DIR>\Sun\jwsdp-2.0\apache-ant\bin\ant client
and then ran the client like below...
<install DIR>\Sun\jwsdp-2.0\apache-ant\bin\ant run
Please if anyone has encountered this problem or if you know the cause of this problem, please drop a note.
Thanks
DennisI narrowed down the problem to the fact that from my webservices impl class, I am trying to call classes and libraries that perform tasks like database calls etc....
I think that I am not adding these classes or libraries to the jaxws environment as I should. I have ploughed through the documentation, and I noticed the <classpath> tag under <wsimport> which I added to the build.xml file pointing to my specific classes and libraries. Doing this enabled me to build the server sucessfully. However at runtime it throws that NoClassDef exception. Can some one offer some tips on how I can get the my classes to be executed at run time...

Thanks in advanceAnd metalink note 1100253.1 states that this issue (java.lang.StackOverflowError) might be caused by a too large set of data to be sorted in the layout file. Recommendation is to removed the sort from the layout file and instead sort the data already in the data definition.

Downloading unix archive file (.Z extension) from java program
Hi,
I am trying to download unix archive files with .Z extension from java program. When I use
BufferedReader zReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(urlConn.getInputStream()));
and then read line by line and write it to file, downloaded file can't be decompressed. I tried to open it with winZip which supports .Z files but I get the message : Cannot open file, it does not appear to be a valid archive.
How can I download file correctly?
Any help would be appreciated.Hi,
I am trying to download unix archive files with .Z
extension from java program. When I use
BufferedReader zReader = new BufferedReader(new
InputStreamReader(urlConn.getInputStream()));
and then read line by line and write it to file,How are you writing the file? Since it is binary data you need to be careful about using Reader/Writers, which are meant for character data. Look at using classes from the InputStream/OutputStream hierarchy.

How to return sdo_geometry from java procedure
How can I return a SDO_GEOMETRY object from a java-stored-procedure to PL/SQL.
I have a java class with methods that creates a specific polygon based on some user values. I want to return this polygon as a SDO_GEOMETRY object to a PL/SQL procedure.
JDeveloper does not accept SDO_GEOMETRY as a return type.
Can this be done?Justin,
I have a PL/SQL package that contains several functions. One of them does selection and filtering of spatial features based on a user's location and preferences. For this purpose a web-application runs this function.
I would like this function to do the following:
1. the function is called, user parameters are passed in
2. a call to a java-stored-procedure is made. This java procedure creates a polygon based on the user's location and preferences.
3. the polygon is returned to the PL/SQL function
4. the funtion uses the returned polygon to query spatial features that intersect, etc.
I can do the call to the java-stored-procedure but where I get stuck is how to get the polygon from java to pl/sql. I can return a String or a number from java but how can I return the polygon (e.g., STRUCT, java object)?
The current solution uses a work-around by storing the polygon in a temporary table. I would like to change this because once the function has run, the polygon is not needed anymore so I would like to do without having to store the polygon.

How To Change Resource Bundle file's data from Java Class
Hi
i have used below code for accessing Resource Bndle from Java Class but here i also want to make change in a particular key and its value.
please let me know the code i should use to make changes in Resource Bundle file's key and value and saving the same in the file.
package test; import java.util.Enumeration;
import java.util.ResourceBundle;
public class ResourceBundleTest {
public static void main(String[] args) {
ResourceBundle rb = ResourceBundle.getBundle("test.bundletest.mybundle");
Enumeration <String> keys = rb.getKeys();
while (keys.hasMoreElements()) {
String key = keys.nextElement();
String value = rb.getString(key);
System.out.println(key + ": " + value);
ThanksWith further debugging, I noticed the following line only works in integrated WLS but not in standalone WLS
resourceBundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle("com.myapp.MyMappings");
I confirmed the corresponding properties file was included properly in the EAR file but the standalone WLS failed to find the properties file at runtime.
Why did the standalone WLS class loader (must be the same as the integrated WLS) failed to find the properties file deployed under the WEB-INF/classes path in the EAR file?
The above line was in a POJO class which has the same classpath as the properties file ie. com.myapp.MappingManager.class.
It was strange that the class loader could load the POJO class but unable to find the com.myapp.MyMappings.properties in the same classpath!!!
Is this a bug in standalone WLS?

Write PDF file to client's machine using Applet
Hi all,
I want to use Java Applet to write a PDF file into the client's computer when he/she double click the URL in browser. Can I do that and HOW. I heard that i need to signed the applet and make security manager enable, but how to do it?
Also, is it any different to do this for IE5X and NS4X browser?
Thanks for your information.Hi,
I don't know how to do that with a signed applet (excepting if you want to write in the PDF format), but you can do this with a script (like asp) and an active X written with VB. You can build and manipulate Word or Excel Object with VB and so build dynamically your document.
When your document is ready (in the active X), you can use the distiller from acrobat (you need a license to use it) and you can create a new file on your hard drive (server side).
Your script will do the following:
1) load (createobject) the active X
2) call the method in the active x
3) redirect the client to the correct page (the new document you created)
I don't have any code to give you, but I did the same thing last year and it worked...
I think that you can also interact between an applet and an active X (I saw something like that in the forum)...
Of course this solution is running server side (the file will be created server side) but the client will be able to see his document in his browser and will be able to save it.
I hope that it can help you even if it is not with java...

I'm trying to generate XML files on a client machine. I'm using SQL*Plus Instant Client v 10.1.0.4.0 connected to DB version 10.1.0.3.0. I've created a view of XMLType and am able to select XML from this view. I've been unable to figure out a way to generate well-formed XML via a Spool command and Select statement as Sqlplus returns the XML as one row and has problems with line wrapping, embedded spaces, and also including the SQL command in the spooled output. I've tried many different permutations of Set commands to no avail.
Is there a way to generate a valid XML file from Sqlplus on a client machine using the Spool command? If not Sqlplus, any other suggestions?
Thanks,
GlennI would be inclined to write a pipelined function to take a clob, and break it up into pieces (perhaps after a '>').
Here's an example of a pipelined function, which you can modify to suit your needs, such as working with CLOBs. You may also want to add more intelligence to it, such as checking for when the chunk is longer than 2000 characters.
CREATE TYPE tvc2000 AS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(2000)
CREATE OR REPLACE
FUNCTION chopper
p_string IN VARCHAR2
RETURN tvc2000
PIPELINED
IS
l_len NUMBER := LENGTH(p_string);
l_out NUMBER := 0;
l_pos NUMBER;
BEGIN
l_pos := INSTR(p_string, '>', l_out+1);
WHILE l_pos > 0 LOOP
PIPE ROW(SUBSTR(p_string, l_out+1, l_pos - l_out));
l_out := l_pos;
l_pos := INSTR(p_string, '>', l_out+1);
END LOOP;
IF l_out < l_len THEN
PIPE ROW(SUBSTR(p_string, l_out+1, l_len - l_out));
END IF;
RETURN;
END;
SELECT *

Not able to find Report - Standard templates or Report - Custom templates view in Administration - BIP reports in Siebel 8.1.1.3?
We have applied 8.1.1.3 patch on 8.1.1.0
below are the steps followed
Reports are not generated after 8.1.1.3 patch installtion.
we have also followed to below steps mentioned for this issue in oracle support.
"In order to resolve this behavior it is necessary to ensure that the 8.1.1.3 FixPack has been applied to the Siebel Tools installation. This will provide an additional .zip file in the REPPATCH folder of the Siebel Tools installation. Once this has been done please then follow the configuration steps as documented :
change sysprefix to X_ before sif import and chage back to SBL_ after sif import.
1) Import the sif files from Siebel\8.1\Tools_1\REPPATCH\12-1VMBCSV.zip
2) Import the 4 SIF files in the following order:
S_XMLP_REP_TMPL_02112010.sif
SBL_XMLP_REPORT_SELECTION_FLG.sif
Report Template BC.sif
Report Template Registration Applet.sif
3)Apply the DDL for table S_XMLP_REP_TMPL and compile repository
Once the above steps have been completed the Selected Record flag will appear in the Report Template Registration views."
we still not able to generated able to generate reports even after following above steps.
Thanks
