I'm trying to add a column to an existing table using procedure to set the value of this new column according to the another column in different table..I think the trigger part is not hard but I'm struggling with the stored procedure..any help please??
Thanks in advance!

  • When would you write a stored procedure in sender/receiver jdbc adapter

    Hi Everybody
    Can you tell any situation where you would need to write a stored procedure in the query sql statement of sender/ receiver jdbc adapter instead of writing SELECT statement there
    why do we need to write stored procedures
    thanks and regards,
    Anitha

    Hi Anitha,
    why do we need to write stored procedures
    Some times a single SQL statement will not suffice for ur transactions....
    Say u want to access from 2 tables and update based on some condition..
    or nested select statement...
    or u want to update a 2 nd table based on the values from 1st table... etc..
    In those places it's preferable for going for a Stored Procedure.
    The Stored Procedure can be used in both Sender and Receiver JDBC Adapter.
    Still nt clarified do post..

  • How do write a stored Procedure in PL/SQL

    Hi,
    I am new to this forum. I am creating a webpage using Gridview in Visual Studio 2005.
    How to write a Stored procedure in Oracle using PL/SQL?
    I want to write a SP for the following query :
    "Select S_No, Task_ID,Last_Act_Dt,Last_Act_Tm,Status from E002 Order by S_No"
    Please help.

    In Oracle, you normally wouldn't create a stored procedure that just does a query. Depending on what you're attempting to do on the client side, and the client libraries involved, you may be able to write a stored procedure that returns a REF CURSOR and call that. This will put some limitations on what the client can do with the results, for example. The data would be read-only and scrolling back and forth in the result set would potentially rather slow and rather expensive in terms of client memory. That makes this generally a somewhat unattractive option.
    You could create a view in Oracle and just query the view in your application code. If you needed to change the query, you could then just change the view.

  • How in ColdFusion with in variables get a Oracle stored procedure to return values?

    How in ColdFusion with in variables get a Oracle stored procedure to return values?
    We have tried several things, we can get  a stored procedure to return a result set if we are not passing in variables but we cannot get them when we are passing in variables.
    We know how to do it calling  MS SQL.
    Thanks for any help,
    Nathan Sr
    P.S. we have heard this may not be possible with the current Oracle Driver is there a different Oracle driver?

    I can only barely understand what you're asking here (not from a technical perspective, but from understanding your written English), but I suspect you're wanting to know how to pass back values other than recordsets from Oracle?
    You should be able to pass them back via a type=out proc param, shouldn't you?
    If you could reword your post so it's a bit more coherent, and possibly post some code, that might help.

  • How to change stored procedure with Table Valued Parameter

    I am not sure how to change the normal stored procedure with Table Value Parameter.Do I have to create a separate Table or do I have to create a datatype. Can you please help me with this
    ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspInsertorUpdateINF]
    @dp_id char(32),
    @dv_id char(32),
    @em_number char(12),
    @email varchar(50),
    @emergency_relation char(32),
    @option1 char(16),
    @status char(20),
    @em_id char(35),
    @em_title varchar(64),
    @date_hired datetime
    AS
    BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON;
    MERGE [dbo].[em] AS [Targ]
    USING (VALUES (@dp_id, @dv_id , @em_number, @email, @emergency_relation, @option1, @status, @em_id, @em_title, @date_hired))
    AS [Sourc] (dp_id, dv_id, em_number, email, emergency_relation, option1, status, em_id, em_title, date_hired)
    ON [Targ].em_id = [Sourc].em_id
    WHEN MATCHED THEN
    UPDATE
    SET dp_id = [Sourc].dp_id,
    dv_id = [Sourc].dv_id,
    em_number = [Sourc].em_number,
    email = [Sourc].email,
    emergency_relation = [Sourc].emergency_relation,
    option1 = [Sourc].option1,
    status = [Sourc].status,
    em_title = [Sourc].em_title,
    date_hired = [Sourc].date_hired
    WHEN NOT MATCHED BY TARGET THEN
    INSERT (dp_id, dv_id, em_number, email, emergency_relation, option1, status, em_id, em_title,date_hired)
    VALUES ([Sourc].dp_id, [Sourc].dv_id, [Sourc].em_number, [Sourc].email, [Sourc].emergency_relation, [Sourc].option1, [Sourc].status, [Sourc].em_id, [Sourc].em_title, [Sourc].date_hired);
    END;

    It's not clear how you would change the procedure. But assuming that you want to replace the existing scalar parameters with tabular input, this is how you would do it. You first create a table type:
    CREATE TYPE  Insertor_type AS TABLE
        (dp_id                char(32),
         dv_id                char(32),
        em_number            char(12),
        email                varchar(50),
        emergency_relation   char(32),
        option1              char(16),
        status               char(20),
        em_id                char(35),
        em_title             varchar(64),
        date_hired           datetime)
    Then you change the procedure header:
    ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspInsertorUpdateINF] @tvp Insertor_type READONLY AS
    And finally you change the USING clause:
       USING (SELECT dp_id, dv_id , em_number, email, emergency_relation, option1, status, em_id, em_title, date_hired
              FROM   @tvp) AS [Sourc] ON [Targ].em_id = [Sourc].em_id
    The rest is fine as it is.

  • Do SQL pros write seperate stored procedures to handle Save and update operations?

    hi friends,
    Currently i'm bit confused with the industry standard of writing store procedures for save and update operations. I have sees people write separate stored procedure to handle save and update operations even they have to write complex queries. Also I have
    seen people writing one store procedure to handle both Save and Update operations even when the queries are complicated. when I asked them why they do it, they said why should waste time on writing another query to update instead write one save store procedure
    to handle all.
    In here there are SQL Pros, Gurus, what would say about this?
    what is the actual industry standard with stored procedure to perform save and update operations, do you write separate ones or do both in one?
    thanks
    I use Visual studio 2012 Ultimate and SQL server 2008 developer edition!

    >what is the actual industry standard with stored procedure to perform save and update operations
    There is no industry standard. Guideline though you want to be happy with the sp-s; same for your peers.
    As noted above the MERGE command is like a Swiss Army knife; it can perform INSERT, UPDATE & DELETE
    in one (huge) statement.
    Make sure you pick good names for the sp-s, document the parameters and comment the logic if any.
    Format the stored procedure for readability:

    I am trying to create a stored procedure that creates a trigger on new tables whenever the table is created.  The procedure should receive the new project table's name, and then create a dml trigger on that procedure.  When the procedure

  • Stored procedure not found when creating a new recordset binding in Dreamweaver CS6 with ColdFusion Server 11

    Stored procedure not found when creating a new recordset binding in Dreamweaver CS6 with ColdFusion Server 11.  I can see the tables and views in the database tab, but no stored procedures.  If I connect to a data source created in ColdFusion Server 6 I am able to see the stored procedures.

    Ben thanks for the reply!
    Yes that is the process I am following:
    In Dreamweaver, open the page that will run the stored procedure.
    In the Bindings panel (Window > Bindings), click the Plus button, and then select Stored Procedure.
    In the Data Source pop‑up menu, select a connection to the database containing the stored procedure
    Enter the ColdFusion Data Source user name and password.
    At this point in the procedure drop down I would get a message that said No Stored Procedure Found.
    Right now it appears to be working, I had to create a new site that pointed to the older CF 6 server's data source and create a page following the process above, then when I went back to the CF 11 site the stored procedures were now populated.  I need to make sure it is pulling from the correct server but right now it appears to be working.
    Thanks

  • Stored Procedure Parameters - Setting a default value

    Using SQL 2005, 2008, 2012
    This should be easy, but think that I am making it hard. Below is the stored procedure that I want to call. If I want to pass a 'N' to @SearchDBsFlag how can I retain the default values for @DBName and @PreviewTextSize? I do not want to explicitly pass the
    NULL, 100. I want it to pick up the default values that are defined in the stored procedure.
    Create Procedure [dbo].[ifs_util_Find]
    @SearchText varchar(8000)
    , @DBName sysname = Null
    , @PreviewTextSize int = 100
    , @SearchDBsFlag char(1) = 'Y'
    , @SearchJobsFlag char(1) = 'Y'
    , @SearchSSISFlag char(1) = 'Y'

    I did look up "flag coupling" and all I found was posts from you.
    Start with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coupling_(computer_programming). The terminology varies; what I call "flag coupling" is one version of Content
    coupling.
    Cohesion:
    This is how well a module does one and only one thing; that it is logically coherent. The modules should have strong cohesion. You ought to name the module in the format "<verb><object>", where the "<object>" is a specific logical unit in
    the data model. There are several types of cohesion. We rank them going from the worst form of cohesion to the best
    1) Coincidental
    2) Logical
    3) Temporal
    4) Procedural
    5) Communicational
    6) Informational
    7) Functional
    Coupling:
    If modules have to be used in a certain order, then they are strongly coupled. If they can be executed independently of each other and put together like Lego blocks, then they are loosely or weakly coupled. There are several kinds of coupling, which are ranked
    from worse to best:
    1) Content
    2) Common
    3) Control
    4) Stamp
    5) Data
    This is covered briefly in a chapter on writing stored procedures in my book on SQL PROGRAMMING STYLE. In the meantime, you can read DeMarco, Yourdon, Constantine, Myers or several other of the pioneers.
    This is FAR more basic than SQL programming. This is what you are supposed to know before you write any code in any language.

  • Stored procedure OUTPUT VARCHAR2 value truncated using 12c client on Server 2012

    Questions:
    1) Is there a version of Oracle Client 11g which runs on Server 2012? My 11.2.0.0, when the installer begins, says my Server 2012 (8GB mem, 80 GB drive) does not meet the minimum requirements and I should not install it. This same installer worked on Server 2008.
    2) Have you seen the following behavior from Oracle client 12c? Are there any patches?
    When I was unable to find a version of Oracle 11g client for Windows Server 2012, I downloaded Oracle 12c. We have a few stored procedures, when invoked from a Windows Server 2008 with an 11g client work. However, when running that some code on a Windows Server 2012 machine does not work. I have certain stored procedures with an OUTPUT parameter when executed on 2012 has the values truncated.
    For instance:
    Output parameter is set to return "SUCCESS", but was is received is "SUC"
    Ouput parameter is set to return "AllSet", but it returns "All"
    Output parameter is set to cast a NUMBER to a VARCHAR2 and the value is a 5 digit number, but only the first two digits are returned. Ex: "83976", but only "83" appears.
    The above takes place when run from Server 2012, but works fine from Server 2008 and Win 7.

  • Stored Procedure Result Sets in Reports 6.0

    Please help.
    I have successfully managed to write a PL/SQL procedure using
    the EXEC_SQL package in the Oracle to retrieve the return set
    from a SYBASE stored procedure (very similar to the example in
    the HELP documentation).
    I would like to incorporate this output into a report using the
    Oracle Reports Server 6.0 but I am not sure how to do this. If
    anyone has any clues as to how this can be accomplished (PL/SQL

    I would be most grateful.
    Thank you.

    I would like to suggest the following procedures:
    1. Create a Oracle work table for the Result Set and
    Modify your pl/sql to insert the result set into
    Oracle work table.
    2. Place your pl/sql procedure in Oracle Reports
    Triggers (i.e. Before Report or After parameter
    form)
    3. Define the Data Model using the oracle work table in
    Oracle Reports.

    dbContext.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand("exec stored_proc @tvp",
                            new SqlParameter() { SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Structured, ParameterName = "@tvp", Value = dataTable }
    This throws an exception saying 'The table type parameter '@tvp' must have a valid type name.'

    You must set the TypeName property of the SqlParameter to the name of your table type that you have defined in the database:
    SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter();
    param.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Structured;
    param.ParameterName = "@tvp";
    param.TypeName = "dbo.YourTableType";
    param.Value = dataTable;
    dbContext.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand("exec stored_proc @tvp", param);
    Of course you must define the table type in the database first:
    CREATE TYPE dbo.YourTableType AS TABLE
    ( col1 int, col1 bit )

    Hope that helps.
