Write-EventLog add a list with filter to EventViewer?

Hi
I have created a scriptblock that will merge some files from shared folder to a one specific file on the server. On top of that i will also need the information of which files(list  of all files)that have been merged
and send that information to EventViewer. (notice! I haven't paste the whole script)
I have used this
$date = Get-Date -Format "yyyyMMdd"
$server = C:\
$logFile = "MergeFileMT535-$date.log"
$basePath = 'MergeFile\
$list = Get-Content -path $server$basePath$logFile
Write-EventLog -LogName Application -EntryType Information -Source MQMergeFile -EventID 10 -Message $server$basePath$list
But it does not work as I've thought.
How can I filter out some columns in the list sent to EventViewer. The log in EventViewer should only present some columns e.g. Name and TimeStamp. Should i create a separate list for that or what should i do? Anyone have an idé?? Please
help..with any command.
Br Peraya

Hi,
Please try using the following command:
$message = gc -path $server$basePath$logFile|Select-String "Name|TimeStamp"

  • Write-EventLog adds garbage text

    Hi Guys,
    My PowerShell rule writes an event:
    Write-Eventlog -Logname "Operations Manager" -Source 'HealthService' -EventID 100 -EntryType Warning -Message "String `"$string`" has not been found in URL `"$url`" authenticated with username `"$user`" and password `"$password`"."
    Also my correct script's output, the NT event always adds garbage text like this:
    "The description for Event ID 100 from source HealthService cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can
    install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event."
    I'm using a source that I have confirmed that it is created. I have found that Stefan Stranger
    here creates before the Source if it doesn't exist to avoid this error, but this is not my case.
    Thanks in advance mates!

    Hi Jonathan! thanks for your reply. It doesn't work, I receive same message:
    The description for Event ID 100 from source HealthService cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install
    or repair the component on the local computer.
    If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
    The following information was included with the event:
    MY MESSAGE
    the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
    I think that The registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Operations
    Manager\HealthService\EventMessageFilepoints to a file that contains valid sources, messages and IDs.
    In that case, the string value for this registry key is "E:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server\HealthServiceMessages.dll;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW\DW20.EXE"
    I'm going to try to add my own source in "Operations Manager", something like this:
    $source = "Test"
    $log = "Operations Manager"
    if ([Security.Diagnostics.EventLog]::SourceExists($source) -eq $false)
    write-host "Creating event source $source on event log $log"
    [Security.Diagnostics.EventLog]::CreateEventSource($source, $log)
    write-host -foregroundcolor green "Event source $source created"
    else
    write-host -foregroundcolor yellow "Warning: Event source $source already exists. Cannot create this source on Event log $log"
    But I don't know what is the name for "Operations Manager" log. Instead of:
    Security.Diagnostics.EventLog
    Something like this (it doesn't work)
    'Operations Manager'.Diagnostics.EventLog
    Does someone how to do this?
    If I add a new Source manually the garbage text doesn't appear:
    New-EventLog -LogName "Operations Manager" -Source "SCOM Team"

  • Can't add to lists with workflows

    Our security person turned windows firewall on this week. Now users can't add to any list that has a workflow attached. The only thing I can find in logs is "This event is generated when a logon session

    My boss won't let me turn the firewall back off unless I can prove that this is the issue. Am I right?

  • How to add item to a List with a bounded wildcard

    Hi,
    Is there a way to add a subtype instance to a List with a bounded wildcard? For example, say I have an
    abstract class called Car. Then I have 2 concrete subclasses--Ford and Toyota. Now say I have another
    class that contains a prepopulated list and is wildcard bounded like this: List<? extends Car> carList. I
    want to add a method where I pass in a Car subtype as a parameter and then add it into this list, e.g:
    public void addCar(Car car) {
    carList.add(car);
    Trying this, I keep getting "cannot find symbol" compilation errors. When I went back to read the Generics
    tutorial by Bracha, he mentions that explicitly adding a subtype, e.g. carList.add(new Ford()), can not be
    done. But here I'm adding the "upper bound" of the wildcard, i.e. the Car type. Therefore there should be no
    discrepancy between supertype and subtype an thus the carList.add(car) should be ok, IMO.
    Am I misunderstanding something with this logic? Also, if carList.add(car) can not be done, then how can
    I go about doing something similar which will allow me to add subtypes to a "generic" list?
    Thanks in advanced!
    -los

    I get a compilation error expecting an Object instead of a Car. Of course you did. List<? super Car> is a list into which you can put cars -- and possibly other stuff. List<? extends Car> is a list out of which you can get cars (possibly of different makes).
    Do you need a list that you can put cars in and get cars out? That's List<Car>
    This isn't a linguistic problem you are having; this is a design problem. If you have a function that takes an argument which is a list that you can put any kind of car into and be sure of getting a car out of, it isn't reasonable to pass in a List<Ford> (because the function might put in a Chevy) or a List<Object> (but there might be motorcycles already in there). By the requirements you have, you need a List<Car> and nothing else.
    Yes, you could use a cast, but all you are doing is circumventing the type system by saying "I know this List<Object> only has Cars in it."

  • List view - filter with parameters

    Hi,
    I need to define a list view to filter data with parameters.
    I saw how to do it with the SPD in another post
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/92271aa4-6582-4ea5-a10f-deaf02d2b62c/filtering-the-list-view-by-passing-date-parameters-using-sharepoint-desginer-2010?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious
    But  need to do it in visual Studio (via definitins or Object Model).
    How can I do that in Visual Studio?
    Help is really appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    DD

    Hi,
    According to your description, you might want to create a list definition with the filter value from query string from URL. Then when you create a list instance with this list
    definition, you will be able to filter the list view page by appending parameters to the URL in the address bar.
    You can achieve this through modifying the Schema.xml file in the list definition project in Visual Studio like this:
    How to create custom list definition
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg276355(v=office.14).aspx
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/412429/SharePoint-Create-List-Definition-and-Instanc
    CAML Query Schema
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ms467521(v=office.15).aspx
    Then we can filter the list with such an URL:
    http://sp/Lists/List1/AllItems.aspx?Param1=2014-08-24&Param2=2014-08-28

    Have referred this domain to the data element, this should be the Field type in ur table for the particular field.
    Eg: <b>SE11 > table name > fields-ZTEST > fieldtype-ZZTEST</b>
    ZZTEST in the data element > create a domain for this data element and in that specify teh value range.
    Save and activate it.
    Make sure that u regenerate teh table maintenance generator else u cant see the changes.
    Now if u press F4 u can see only thevalues specified, also u will see only the list box with values in SM30.

  • In my Add-ons list I see Java Console with every version from 6.0.03 to 6.0.21. Why so many?

    When FireFox notifies me to update an add-on I usually do as I am told. Java Console comes up with updates so I update it. With other add-ons the item in the add-on list is changed giving its version number but with Java Console the list simply grows with yet another Java Console listed.
    It's not a problem, I suppose, but I wonder why it works this way and if it should.

    You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

    The component's items property points to an array of com.sun.rave.web.ui.model.Option. Each Option element in the array has a return value and a display label. Let's call this array listOptions.
    The selected property points to an array that contains the selections. Every element of the array MUST be a member of the set of RETURN VALUES in the listOptionsarray.
    For example,
    If say you have the following:
      listOptions = new com.sun.rave.web.ui.model.Option[] {
      new Option("choice1", "My Choice 1"),
      new Option("choice2", "My Choice 2"),
      new Option("choice3", "My Choice 3")};In the above, choice1 is a value and My Choice 1 is a label.
    Say that the items property for your Listbox component is bound to listOptions.
    If you call setSelected("choice1"), then that is valid, because choice1 is a valid value. If you cal lsetSelected("choiceX") then that is not vaid, that is, it is not present in the list of options.
    In addition setSelected("My Choice 1") is not valid.

  • My extensions have stopped working. They appear in the Add-on list as installed, but they don't load with Firefox.

    I have many extensions downloaded. They all worked earlier today, but now none of them are working. They appear in the add-on list as installed, but they don't load. I cannot find them anywhere in any Tools or Options. I use Speed Dial, Read It Later, etc., and they're all gone.

    You can delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
    If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check.

  • List with user data from User Profile Service

    Hi there!
    I got SP intranet site up and running with more then 2000+ users on it.
    User Profile Services is getting users attributes from Active Directory.
    How can i make a list with all of those users and columns like Department, Manager, Office number, etc..
    After that i'm going to apply a filter by current user department.
    I would really appreciate some offer.
    Thanks!

    There is a sharepoint hidden list called User Information List , if you want to filter by current user department I recommend that you use ser search API and search People using SourceID
    public static ResultTable SearchUsers(string query,int limit,string [] selectproperties)
    KeywordQuery kq = new KeywordQuery(SPContext.Current.Site);
    //select properties
    foreach (string property in selectproperties)
    kq.SelectProperties.Add(property);
    kq.SourceId = new Guid("B09A7990-05EA-4AF9-81EF-EDFAB16C4E31");
    kq.QueryText = query;
    kq.RowLimit = limit;
    ResultTableCollection results = new SearchExecutor().ExecuteQuery(kq);
    return results.Filter("TableType", KnownTableTypes.RelevantResults).FirstOrDefault<ResultTable>();
    you need to pass the query Department:CurrentUserDepartment and to get current user department
    UserProfileManager manager = new UserProfileManager(SPServiceContext.GetContext(SPContext.Current.Site));
    UserProfile currentUser = manager.GetUserProfile(SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.LoginName);
    string department=currentUser["Department"].toString();
    Hope that helps|Amr Fouad|MCTS,MCPD sharePoint 2010

  • Handling Large list with 150+ columns(40+ Searchable) and 100000 rows.

    Hi All,
    We are working on project architecture for project with the following issue:
    1. List having 150+ columns out of which:
    - 40+ columns need to have search (i.e Indexing)
    - 30+ lookup columns
    - 10+ date time columns
    - 40+ multiline text columns
    2. List having 100000+ records
    - As per business we don’t have any specific folder criteria to divide list items into folders.
    Business Requirements:
    - filter on the list (it should show real time data so can’t use SharePoint Search)
    - Export to Excel 30000+ data in <30 Sec
    Our list is already normalized and we don’t see any scope to normalize it further.
    Problems of breaking the list into multiple list:
    1.)Low performance as join is taking very much time(due to 30,000 items)
    2.)Secure transaction problem i.e. suppose we broke list into 5 child lists. Now if I need to add an item in list then it has to be implemented by adding part of item to each child list.
       There may arise problem such as items inserted to 4 list successfully but failed in insertion into last list.
    Thank you in advance.
    Thanks, Satish

    Hi All,
    We solved this problem by normalizing list into many list.
    Then creating one search list with all columns as plain text no look up this list have all the columns from all different list. Then writing event receiver to update this search list on item change.
    and one timer job which will delete and recreate this search list weakly.
    Let me know if you have any better solution.

  • List wizard filter - default "on"?

    Anyone know of a way to make the great filter that generated by the list wizard default to visible instead of hidden?

    When using a NeXTensio list, you have the option to display the filter by clicking on the Show filter link. This will change a session variable, telling the page to display the filter. Just the same, when wanting to hide the filter, clicking the Reset filter link will change the session variable once more, telling the page to hide the filter row.
    When wanting to show the filter by default when the list page is accessed, without having to click the Show filter link, you have to pass the list page a URL parameter like this: show_filter_tfi_listfiles_fls1. The exact parameter name depends on the name of your NeXTensio List. To find the list name, go to the Server Behaviors panel, and double-click NeXTensio List Layout > Advanced:
    The base of the string is show_filter_tfi_. Just add the list name to the end of it. From the image above, the URL parameter becomes show_filter_tfi_listcompany_com1 .
    If the show_filter_tfi_listcompany_com1 URL parameter is equal to 1, the filter will be displayed. For a NeXTensio List on a list.php file, the link will be: list.php?show_filter_tfi_listcompany_com1=1.
    Simply use the same link in all other pages that reference the NeXTensio list page, and when the page loads, the filter will be displayed.
    If you also need to filter the list by a specific column -e.g. the company name - when the page loads, follow these steps:
    With the page containing the list opened in Code view, locate the area defining the filter. It starts with a //Filter comment.
    Find the call to the addColumn method for the name_com column. The addColumn method takes 5 arguments: 4 required and already on the page, and the last one optional. This last argument is of interest as it passes the default value to the filter.
    Add the value to filter by as the last argument to the method.
    Next time you load the page, the list will be filtered by the name_com column.
