  • Attempted to read or write protected memory error on reportdocument.load

    Reportdocument.load causes "System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory" error.
    The error is not consistent. Sometimes a report will print. Sometimes a report will error.
    I am at a loss as to what to try.
    I have uninstall the app, reinstalled the app, uninstall and reinstalled .NET frameworks, Visual C++ runtime, etc.,
    reworked the code to try to capture the error. Nothing helps. Application crashes with Unhandled exception.
    Attempted to read or write to protected memory.
    Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

    Hi Mary,
    What happens if you set your project to use 4.0 framework?
    Anything else in the Event Viewer to show an access violation?
    Have you tried updating the printer driver to one that is supported in the Framework? I find most legacy printers tend to use the old DEVMODE structure and not the Framework. Try using the printer off the Window CD rather than the Manufacturers driver.
    Is your app doing "Report Bursting"? In other words sending multiple reports one right after the other with no time between?
    Are you using any legacy UFL's? Try renaming u2lcom.dll if you are not using them. If you do you'll get an error in formula.
    Are you using try/catch in your code around each CR API? It may catch something more for you also.
    AND, can you try a C# project, some thing very simple also. I've of issues in VS VB that do not show up in other dev languages. Neither Microsoft or SAP can figure out what the cause is.
    Thank you

  • "Attempted to read or write protected memory" error in loading a report.

    Deployment Environment

    Crystal Reports Runtime SP3 (no be confirmed)
    I have created a windows dll with a form with a reportdocument, that loads a report (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument).
    Then we circle through the report setting every table location to point at a specific ODBC and database.
    The Dll can do this process several hundred reports in a day. However a small number (less than 10) of these have the following error:
    "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."
    This is normally occurring when the reportDocument.Load function is called. But also happens when going through the setting of table locations: [myTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(TmpTableLogOnInfo)
    The dll is called via COM interop and so i have checked "Register for COM interop".

    1) Get to SP 3:
    for dev computer:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007123572010E/cr2008_sp3.exe
    Recompile the app after SP3 is applied.
    for SP3 runtime:
    MSI

    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007123582010E/cr2008sp3_mm.zip
    (You will have to uninstall SP 2 runtime before installing SP 3 runtime)
    2) Do not use "Any CPU". CR2008 is only 32 bit anyhow so use 32 bit.
    3) Make sure you are using .Close and .Dispose once you are done with each report object

  • Attempted to read or write protected memory error

    Hello,
    I am using the .Net library and occasionally I get a System.AccessViolationException,"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." Currently it is occurring when trying to initialize a TypedTPINIT object (this has happened in other places before and we just retry the request as a work-around). I set the size equal to the password length + 2 and the constructor for TypedTPINIT throws the exception after making the call to tpaloc. I have code that catches the exception and tries again up to 5 times before bubbling the exception up the chain. Once this exception occurs, no calls can be made to tux, they all throw the same exception. Once the application is closed and restarted (restarting the win32 process), everything works fine with the same data. It will work for a day or two and then fowl up again, seemingly at random. I am unable to reproduce the error at will, we just see it popup now and again, but closing the process and restarting it makes it go away for a while.
    Any idea why this exception is happening?
    I tried taking the .Net library out of the question and make the call to tpalloc myself using p/invoke and the same thing happens, but not every time.
    I appreciate any help you can provide.
    ~Jason

    Hi Jason,
    I would suggest using a memory access checking tool like bounds checker, electric fence, or the like, although I don't know what's available in a .NET environment.

  • Error message when finalizing...file already open with write protection

    I just created my first movie in i Movie. It's about 9 minutes long. When I tried to finalize it it worked for a couple of hours and then came up with a message "unable to prepare project for publishing because an error occurred (file already open with write protection)". What does this mean? I thought I had closed all the files I was using. There was no error number. I tried it 3 times and got the same message. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    AppleMan, I just checked that and it looks like Time Machine isn't open. I checked it by going to finder>applications>R click on time machine. It gave me the option to "open" which makes me think it's already closed. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking?
    I made another movie that was just a couple of clips and it finalized fine. On that movie, I had some MTS clips and I converted them to mp4's so iMovie could read them.
    In the one that didn't work I did clip one of the movies before I imported it into iMovie. It saved as a .mov instead of a .mp4. Would that make a difference? I checked all of the files and none of them are listed as locked, so I really don't get the "write protected" aspect of this error.

  • Ipod Nano sync error :  Hard disk write protected

    I have a 2nd gen IPod nano 4 GB. I had Itunes 7.1 installed on my PC when I last synced. A week later my disk crashed and in the new disk I installed Itunes 7.2. When I tried to sync, I get a error message which says " disk is write protected. Please remove write protect and sync again "
    Can someone help

    No, you can use a third party program like Yamipod, or XPlay2, etc. But I would advise you to download iTunes anyhow, even if you have to go to another computer and then burn it to a CD or something.

    By internal, I assume you're referring to your systems (boot) drive. Is it, by chance, a partitioned dive?
    Also…although many people successfully use their systems drives as scratch disks, over time you'll have better results using a dedicated drive for your media.
    Good luck.

    Hi Venkat,
    According to the error message, I guess that the error occurred when you previewed the report in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS).
    Based on my research, I think it may be a Window Layout issue of Visual Studio. Please try the steps below:
    Click “Window” button from the toolbar ribbon.
    Click “Reset Windows Layout” option.
    Click “Yes” to finish the operation.

    Try moving the sound card to another PCI slot and then run the installation from the CD again. There is an article on Microsoft knowledgebase that cover the Windows error you encounter that you can refer to.

  • Windows 7 Backup and Restore error code 0x80070013 The media is write protected

    I have had a problem using Windows 7 64-bit Backup and Restore on two different brand new PCs. After setting up a backup to a WD MyBook 500GB external USB hard drive and performing the initial backup succesfully, when it tries to do another backup I am
    getting a "The media is write protected, (error code 0x80070013) " error. I have even tried to reformat the external drive with no luck in solving the problem. In doing some web searching I did come across someone with a similar problem running a Windows 7
    beta last year that appeared to have be fixed by an beta update. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi,
    Please try this:
    1)
    Click Start and type: diskmgmt.msc in Start Search box.
    2)
    Open Disk Management, right click on the external hard disk.
    3)
    Click Properties and click Policies.
    4)
    Check “Better performance”.
    5)
    Click OK.
    Then backup again.

  • HP v165w 8GB formatting error - drive write protected - Windows can't format - HP tool can't format

    Hi,
    I am having trouble understanding what happened with this drive. It worked fine for weeks and weeks and now all of a sudden Windows 7 asks me that it needs to fix something because the files are corrupted or whatever... it does that successfully and after a few days I get an error message saying Windows can't access the drive and it needs to format it.
    I did the following:
    - Used Disk management with no luck... tried to format, reassign drive letters and so on.
    - Used HP formatting tool - and this is where I get the message saying the drive is Write protected
    - Used HP formatting tool and Disk management in Safe mode thinking there might be some processes running that are interfering, no luck, same result for both.
    - Used AH320_Utility_LFormat with no luck... it can't even find the USB device.
    One thing that catches my eye:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
    has the entry StorageVolumes - UpperFilters (tdrpman ; snapman ; timounter) - LowerFilters (fvevol; rdyboost)
    Is it a registry issue? Like we see in CD/DVD drives when they go missing from my computer?
    Is it a MasterBootRecord virus?
    Is it a Windows corruption?
    Please help! If you need additional info please ask!
    Thank you!

  • Time Machine on Timecapsule:  Backup error / Write Protected Sparsebundle

    suddenly, really suddenly, there is a message "time machine can't access the backup-image, error-search can't be done by this computer, please backup your data (haha) and format your drive" and there is another message "image is write-protected". (it's not matching the exact message, though i'm on a german os)
    but i can access time-capsule and write data on it through finder. i've got this problem since this morning. i'll backing up my sparsebundle-file to another folder on timecaspule and wait for a solution.
    if the problem will not be solved by itself, i will delete the original bundle and replace it by the copy and see what happens next.
    i'm quite a bit frustrated, starting new backups all 3 months (same happend with the update 10.5.2). this can't be the idea of time-machine and capsule....

    I have been having the same issue for 3 weeks now. Unable to complete backup. A network problem may have interrupted the connection between your computer and the backup volume. error. I've upgraded and downgraded the firmware. I've connected wirelessly and Ethernet. No dice. I've unplugged the TC and restarted. Same error message. I can see the TC in Airport Utility. Everything looks right in the settings. I have Disconnected USers from the airport disk and tried backing up...Nada. I can access and retrieve backup files through Time Machine no problem. I want to associate this error with the latest System Update, but I'm just not sure. More people are talking about the firmware causing errors rather than the system update. I will probably have to call Apple Support I guess.

  • Stuffit expander - can't create archives, get error folder write protected

    I'm going nuts trying to figure out this problem. I figured it out on one user's machine over a month ago, but forgot what I did. I've installed Stuffit Deluxe 12 for a user. When she drags a folder on Stuffit, she gets an error that says "The destination folder "Desktop" is currently write-protected." Please select another destination."
    I've repaired permissions TWICE. I made sure the entire user's folder had the correct permissions and propagated them. This happens whether I try to save to the desktop, documents, whatever. I don't know what else to do.
    I've removed all traces of Stuffit and re-installed and still get the same problem.

    Repairing permissions does not touch the Home folder or its content. Check the permissions on the Home folder as well as the Desktop folder within. You can use Get Info to see the settings as well as change them if necessary.
    Home folder permissions:
    Owner=username with Read/Write privileges
    Group=admin with Read-only or Read/Write privileges
    Everyone=Read-only
    Desktop folder permissions:
    Owner=username with Read/Write privileges
    Everyone=No Access

  • Unknow error message: Attempted to read or write protected memory.  This is

    Hi,
    I am using 2007B PL08.  The following are my coding:
    Dim oCompanyService As SAPbobsCOM.CompanyService
    Dim oCompanyAdminInfo As SAPbobsCOM.AdminInfo
    Pub.User.Company.NameEng=oCompany.CompanyName
    I can run the above coding properly yesterday but there is no reason that i got the following message suddenly today
    Interop.SAPbobsCOM:Attempted to read or write protected memory.  This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
    1.  I try to re-boot the machine
    2.  I try to connect the program to another testing database
    3.  I try to re-install the DIAPI
    I did all the above steps but the message still coming out.  Anyone can help??
    Regards,
    Anna

    I have experienced this same error, and also found that reinstalling the DIAPI or deleting the temporary folder did not work.
    However, I was eventually able to fix the problem by removing removing the reference to the DIAPI from my .NET project, removing the associated Interop file, and adding the reference again, thereby forcing .NET to re-create the COM wrapper. This fixed the problem, and I suspect that my code was calling a method that, although it existed in the Interop file, did not map correctly to the actual DIAPI COM object that was installed on the machine.
    Hope this helps someone - I know I was happy to find a solution to this very frustrating problem!
