Writing keywords to scanned original photos when referenced

I've looked for this answer, but haven't found it.
I have my photos in Aperture as referenced.  When adding a keyword to a digital photo and writing the metadata to the original, it shows up if I check in Bridge. When adding a keyword to an old scanned photo, the keyword shows up in Aperture, but won't transfer to the referenced one.  The only work around I've found is to add the keyword the scanned photo first in Bridge, then import into Aperture.
Is this the way Aperture works?
Thanks for the info

After playing around with some more old photos, I see where some it will add the keywords too and others not.  Have no idea why it does some and not others.

  • IOS 5 overwriting original photo when saving edits

I've recently upgraded to an iPhone 4S running iOS 5 and I think I've found a bug in the Photos app. When a photo is edited and saved in the Photos app, the original photo is overwritten.
I've seen this behavior on three AT&T iPhones (a 4S and two 4s). A friend with a Verizon 4S saw the behavior intermittently - sometimes Photos offered to save the edited version as a copy of the original. I don't know anyone with a 3GS to ask about this behavior.
    Anyone else?

I found two ways to restore the original photo: one easy, one stupid.
The easy way: open the photo in iPhoto for editing. Choose the crop tool. This should make the "Revert to original" button activate. Click it to restore the original photo.
The stupid way: open the photo in the Photos app for editing. Choose the crop tool. You should see your original photo with the crop marks showing where you cropped it originally. You can recrop here, if you want. Move the crop marks so the cover the entire photo and touch the Crop button to restore the original photo and save it.
@Dave, do you have an actual "revert to original" button in the Photos app on your iPhone 4? I don't have it on my iPhone 4S. I also don't have the option to save a copy, though I've seen the screen shot in various iOS 5 reviews.

  • Transfer photos from iPhoto (iOS) to iPhoto Mac, keeping original photo when edited?

I've been on a vacation and used iPhoto on my iPad Mini to save and edit a few pics on the go. I want to transfer these photos to my Mac (iPhoto), but I also wan to keep the original photo for the edited ones. This is very easy for iOS devices as you can transfer them wirelessly between the devices, but I haven't found a similar way between my iOS device and the Mac. I can transfer the pictures either via iTunes or the camera roll, but both these ways only transfers the edited picture, not the original. Any one knows?

Use iOS 6.0.1 on your device and a computer running Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8.x) and the latest version of iPhoto.
With iCloud and PhotoStream turned on, photos shared to the Camera Roll or taken with the device are copied to your PhotoStream. When you start iPhoto on your Mac you'll see a PhotoStream selection in the left column your Camera Roll Photos will be there. Copy them to the albums you want to store them in or export them to other folders on your computer for back up.

  • How do I change 'original' photos to 'referenced' photos in Aperture?

New to Aperture, I mistakenly imported photos into Aperture believing they were 'referenced', and I applied a lot of metadata.
Then I discovered they were 'original', not 'referenced'.
Is there an easy way to switch them to 'referenced', and not lose my metadata?
I need to keep the no. of photos on my laptop to a minimum, therefore I cannot store all my images in Aperture. (I probably should have gone with light room, since I hear it does this natively.)
    Thank you,
    Gina S

When you import a digicam file into the Aperture Library, you tell Aperture where to store it.  If it is stored inside your Aperture Library package, it is referred to as "Managed".  If it is stored outside your Aperture Library package, it is referred to as "Referenced".  Aperture makes it easy to store your imported files on whichever directly-mounted storage device you want, and also easy to change the storage location at any time.
Once they are imported, your digicam files are called "Originals" in Aperture-speak.  (In the manual, they also use the out-dated term "Master".)
For a quick review of the parts of Aperture, look here.  I think you'll find it helpful.
Metadata is Image-specific.  It remains with the Image, regardless of where you tell Aperture to store each Image's Original.
Lastly, to save space on your system drive, you might consider, as an alternative to referencing some (or all) of your Originals to an external drive, moving your Library to an external drive and leaving all your Originals managed.  I have run Libraries off external drives for years.
    Aperture program: on system drive
Your Library: either on system drive or on (fast) external drive
Your Originals: either in your Library (managed) or elsewhere (referenced), almost always on external drive.

  • How do I extract original photo date when importing photos?

    Hi,
I am trying to import photos from a backup CD of pictures that I created in August. However, when I import them into iPhoto, the date that gets associated with the photo is the August date of the CD creation instead of the original photo date.
I can see the original date of the photo image file, and I want that to be the date that iPhoto uses to organize the photos.
Is there any preference I can set to extract the date information from the image data itself and NOT from the date stamp on the CD file?
    Thanks!

Please don't take the following as a flame...
<quote>The move option is grayed out when importing from a card to save you from yourself. At least that's what I've always assumed.</quote>
That's a bit draconian don't you think? Why have the option greyed out if you don't want the user to be able to do this. It's kind of like saying hahah, this is possible to do, but, you, the user, are a moron. Why even place the option on the page in the first place.
<quote>It just happens to be a bug that few on this forum care to see fixed because most of us feel that using it is unwise due to the danger of lost images and corrupted cards.</quote>
Again, why put it on page as an option if it weren't intended to be enabled in a plist somewhere for those who wish to be 'unwise.'
My logic is as follows: If Apple provides software that is more accessible to the 'unwashed masses' (because it's included with Leopard ie. Image Capture) and it deletes images directly from the camera, then why would a professional package (Aperture) limit the so called 'professional' from designing and using his/her own workflow governed by their own experience. Which could include first a backup to dvd or other device of your choice (keyword here: CHOICE) THEN import images and delete directly from the camera. Logically this is completely BACKWARDS, the app available to the 'masses'(Image Capture) should NOT let the user delete images directly from the camera and the 'professional' app (Aperture) should allow more flexibility for the advanced user who understands the implications of his/her work flow and adjusts accordingly.
Besides, And I quote myself "I have searched the forums here and have only seen people offer advice why this is not good. Not to be an A##, but I don't want advice. I need an answer to my question. How do I enable this functionality?"
Therefore, respectfully, your answer is: non sequitur.
    Best Regards

  • TS2932 Does anyone know what to do when after importing photo's it says "Can't Find Original Photo"

Hey so I imported my photo's and such from my GoPro, but when I go to look at the photo's it says, original photo not found... Does anyone know how to fix or [find] this?

How did you import? Check the settings for "Store files" in the "Import Settings" window.
Have you set this to "Store files in the Aperture Library" or is it set to a different location? If you selected "In there original location", then Aperture is referencing the files on the external device you imported from and you need to connect it again to be able to access the image files. Always import managed with "Store files in the Aperture Library", if you want your image files safely stored inside the Aperure library.

DVD's are only 640 x 480 (interlaced), so yes, the quality is not nearly as good.  You should probably create your .mov in DV format to best match the DVD format

  • Error message when compiling book "file is corrupt" referring to a photo.  Or "cannot find original photo".  Can you use photos that have been "edited" out of "Book Mode"?

Error message when compiling book "file is corrupt" referring to a photo.  Or "cannot find original photo".  Can you use photos that have been "edited" out of "Book Mode"?

I did copy it to my desktop, but it still won't let me open it.  I think the file on the disc might be corrupt or something like that though the cd itself checks out fine as far as viruses go.  I was able to verify the disc, but that's about it.  My husband tried it on his iMac and we have the same issue.  It's unzipping the folder, but won't let us open the folder on both the Mac Book Pro or the iMac by double clicking, going to file/open or right clicking.  It just keeps saying the same message as I posted above.  I think I'm just going to have the client put the pictures on either a memory card or a USB memory stick so she won't have to compress the files for zipping purposes.  It's been too frustrating trying to open this folder on this cd she gave me.  She said she created/zipped the cd on her Mac Book Pro but it sure won't open on mine.

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum.  You should ask in the Mac iPhoto forum.  iPhoto for is OS only on version 1.

  • When I recaption a photo in IPhoto and transfer to Photo Stream the caption is not transferred and only the original photo ID shows in Photo Stream.  Can you transfer a recaptioned description to Photo Stream?

When I recaption a photo in IPhoto and then transfer to Photo Stream, the new caption is not transferred and the original Photo ID shows.  Is there any way to have the new caption show up in Photo Stream with a transferred photo?

No.  Recaptioning only add a title to a photo and does not change the actual file name.  You could export the photo outside of iPhoto with the option to use the title as the new file name, reimport into iPhoto and then add to PhotoStream. But that may be more of a hassle than you wnat to go thru.

I am reading this post in the iphoto for iOS forum. The iPad does not burn photos to a DVD. Perhaps you'll get some assistance if you posted in th general iPhoto forum.

  • How can one remove a raised texture pattern from a scan of the original photo?

How can one remove a raised texture pattern from a scan of the original photo?
Have several wedding photos scanned into PS Elements that were printed by the pro, photography studio on a raised pattern paper. Would anyone know how to remove the honey comb type pattern so that the picture canbe printed flat on glossy color photo paper?
Any help would be greatfully appriciated.
    Thanks,

The best way to remove a pattern is to use a Fast Fourier Transform.  There's a free plugin (as well as examples and instructions) here:
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6795661/4N6site/improc/fftplugin/examples.htm
Using the plugin requires editing the individual colour channels, which PSE does not natively allow.  You'll need the reasonably-priced Elements+ addin:
    http://elementsplus.net/
Here's a crop at 100% of the result I got:
The pattern is much reduced.  With some experimenting, you can probably do a little better.
