Wrong driver?

Appears my ipod 4 touch has picked up the wrong driver. It now likes MTP USB driver. Ipod shows up as a hard drive mobile device in win 7 explorer, but nothing in Itunes.
i have tried three times to uninstall itunes and and ipod and it still picks up this old driver from 2006.
Did the itunes diagnostic it only says it cant communicate.
How can i get the right driver to be installed?

Did y try this:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Have you gotten into Computer/Manage/Disk Management to explore the drives set up fuller?
I have 64 bit Windows 7 and 8.1 computers, no Windows 32 bit. But, I am assuming that the route to the Disk Management is the same as I have indicated. What exactly is the problem when you go to access the drives information in Disk Management. No response to clicking on Disk Management to open the view or something else?
Let us back up a bit....
    1. Before connecting camera to computer, you go to Computer and view the computer's drives there -  what do you see - under Hard Disk Drives and Devices with Removable Storage?  Just C and F? After you make a USB connection between the camera and the computer, what do you see in Computer for the drives C and F or C, F, and something else?
    Details....
The camera is connected to the computer and to that Photo Downloader dialog via a USB connection.
When you do that, the camera folder should be represented as a removable disc in Computer with a Windows determined/assigned drive
letter. And, if you use the Premiere Elements/....../Photo Downloader dialog route, that drive letter should be available to you in the Source field of
    the Photo Downloader dialog.
What I am suspecting is the following - when you made the camera computer USB connection, Windows gave the letter F to that Camera Folder and bumped it off the mirrored F drive, perhaps giving it another letter.
So please let us get into Disk Management. What goes unexplained with this theory is how you can save the import to F drive if the Save In of the Photo Downloader is set to a C location.
We will be watching for your reply.

  • SCCM 2012 - Windows 7 OSD wrong driver letter?

    Hi,
I am having issues with SCCM 2012 OSD / MSD 2012 and deploying Windows 7
I am using a captured WIM and I have noticed that on a machine it deploys
to the E: drive even if I have not data on the hard disk (I have cleaned it
with diskpart). So when the task Sequence is finished it the Windows
directory is E:\Windows which is not what I want.
Now what I thought I would try is moving the CD-ROM drive to a different
SATA controller from AHCI port 2 to AHCI Port 3.
Now this made the OS deploy correctly to C: with the final state being C:\Windows
    1. So my questions are "How" does SCCM determine what the final logical drive that
    windows will be put on?
    2. Is there a way I can force it to be C: drive no matter what port my CD-ROM is on?
    3. Also if I am using UEFI and Bitlocker is the logic the same?
    4. I have noticed when I run diskpart and do list volumes the CD-ROM drive appears?
in the list is this normal?
It seems very bizzare the way it works.
    Thanks,
    Ward.

    Hi,
Thanks for your response actually we are already doing that. :)
Sorry I will re-correct my original post something I did not point out - opps - is we are trying to build these by USB.
It seems that if there is a clean partition and the system boots and happens to choose allocate either the USB key or DVD rom to C: drive then the OS will install on the wrong drive.
So my idea of moving it to another controller seems to make it better but not consistently reliable.
It seems to work if the following conditions are true - need to do a more testing to confirm:
The DVD rom shows up and USB not using the C: so it seems the it will work.
If there is already a partition on the drive called C: and it is already allocated then all seems ok as well
So can I get some more clarity on this - I would like to be able to control it better :)
    Thanks,
    Ward

  • Wrong Drive Letter After Using Restore Command PSE 9

I know this is an old subject, but it has a twist that I can't relate to other posts. So I'm posting a the question again. I have a client who has all of her pictures stored on an external Drive J, lets say. She also has a full backup using the PSE 9 Backup command that she stored a a second external Drive H. Drive J failed. She bought a new external Drive is named N, lets say.
At this point she uses the PSE 9 Restore command, which runs without errors. The problem is that all of her 30,000 images are disconnected. The Organizer thinks they are still on Drive J (her broken drive). and not on Drive N, the new drive.
I have only communicated with her via email and have not seen what exactly she is seeing. However, from what I can tell, she has been using the PSE 9 Backup/Restore command correctly.
I even simulated her process on PSE 9 and it worked fine.
John R. Ellis has published a lot of hints etc regarding problems for PSE 8 and earlier, and they keep coming up as I search.
Does anyone here have any idea what went wrong and obviously more importantly, how to get the PSE Catalog working again?
    TIA

You may need to let the software decide on the file structure.
    File à Restore
Select Hard Drive/Other Volume and click the adjoining browse button
Navigate to the folder on your external hdd, select the back up (tly) file and click open.
Go to specify Destination <NONE> and click the adjoining browse button.
I recommend you navigate to Pictures or My Pictures
When you see the message “the restore was successful” you will probably see a flashing message (bottom left in Organizer) which says opening catalog.
You will also get a message: The catalog named ……….psa could not be found. Please open or create a different catalog - click OK.
In the catalog dialog click New
If you see a message saying you have chosen the original file structure and new folders may need to be created - click Yes.

  • Wrong Drive Letter Assignment

This issue caused about 8 hours of grief with trying to get the new iPod to work.
The short of it is, when the iPod is connected, Windows was assigning a drive letter to it that was already in use, Drive F. It also happens that this drive mapping pointed to the Network Share where my music and photo files were. Therefore, iTunes was trying to put the files back to the same place.
No errors were displayed and operations continued along like nothing was wrong. iTunes indicated that all my files were on the iPod but the iPod was bare.
The fix was to go to Manage computer (right mouse click on My Computer, select Manage) then in Disk Management you can reassign drive letters to connected devices. Select the iPod device and give it an unused drive letter. Windows will use that letter in the future when connecting the iPod.
I spent the 8 hours resetting, reinstalling and rebooting everything in sight until I explored using theiPod as an external drive and noticed that it wasn't showing up in My Computer as a mapped drive.
Hopes this hopes helps solve it for someone else.

You've described the issue well, but this is a long-time known issue, documented on the Apple support page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499). Windows has a tendancy to forget about Network mapped drives when assigning new physical drive letters.

  • Help - Ext HDD Referenced Master Files Gets Connected to Wrong Drive

I just bought Aperture and upgraded to 1.5 and am a new user. Prior to the external/open library, I would not have bought Aperture because I need to access my images on both Macs and PCs.
I spent all day yesterday creating project structure, albums and importing images into Aperture. This morning when I launched Aperture, the referenced masters on external HD were somehow now connected to my Boot Camp WindowsXP partition. When this occurred, I did not have my external drive connected.
Naturally, I connected the external drive and relaunched Aperture but all the images were referenced to my XP partition with directory path that belongs to my external HD (i.e., path is XP/Photo Lib/2006/..., instead of what it should be LACIE/photo Lib/2006/...) I was able to reconnect by selecting one image and reconnecting all function. Easy enough but troublesome.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is this a bug on 1.5? Am I doing something wrong - I could not find any setting that would cause this behavior.
I am using MBP so this is bit of a big deal for me....
    Thanks in advance.
Mac OS X (10.4.7)   XP Pro

My comment was too generalized - sorry.
Actually, the version file I was referring to is a version that gets created when an external editor is used. As you know, Aperture can create either TIF or PDS file to be used by an external editor. Once it is saved in the external editor, the preview is updated and the version is stored in Aperture Library. Unless I save the file using "Save As" into a different location manually, the edited file is in Aperture Lib. I will have to export the file into the directory of choice.
If Aperture saved the external edited file into where the master file is located, then Photoshop'd or any other editor modified files can be accessed directly without having to go through the extra steps

  • After hard drive replacement, iTunes points to wrong drive

I have my iTunes media on an external drive, and the drive failed. Luckily I had a backup, and I also had a spare drive to replace the bad one with. So I set up the replacement drive on my Mac Mini, naming it the same as the old drive (iTunes Library). I then copied the data from the backup onto the replacement drive. I then connected the replacement drive to the Mac, and started up iTunes. From the looks of everything, it looked like all was good, all of my Music, Movies, etc. was there. So yesterday I happen to look at the path for one of my Music files, and I see that now iTunes is pointing to my iTunes Backup drive, named "iTunes Backup", instead of my regular iTunes drive, named "iTunes Library".
I had thought that iTunes would still know that the replacement drive, named the same as the old one, would still point to it, but apparently I was wrong. I even went to "Preferences" and pointed the Media location to the replacement drive, not the backup.
So, my question is: How can I get iTunes to point to the right drive? Do I have to open iTunes with the "Option" key and have it point to the replacement drive? Is there something else?
At least I had a backup, and both replacement and backup drives seem ok...
    HELP!!

Well, it is complicated in the way your public library does things is complicated.  iTunes keeps a catalog of media files and assumes from that catalog that the file exists where it was noted to exist when it was added to the library.  Just as with my public library, there can be off-site storage too, but they have to make sure somebody hasn't moved their books without telling them or they are in a mess.  As I said earlier, I have no idea how your catalog on the internal drive got into its head to use the files on the backup drive.  That goes completely contrary to how iTunes has ever operated from all the topics I have seen on this site for 10+ years, unless there was something else you did that I am not hearing. No matter, if this is truly the scenario.  What I am having you do is deliberately break all the links to the files on the backup drive and hopefully rebuild links to the files on the new library drive.  Then you will be using the other document to change the location of the rest of your non-media library files so it is all together on the library drive for easier moving in future.  I guess you could do it in either order.  The thing is, the library file (iTunes library.itl which ties all iTunes together) is telling you (according to what you report) that when you request track XYZ in iTunes it should be going to the backup drive and play file xyz, but you want it to go to the library drive and use the file there.  If you simply copy the library file to your library drive it will still be trying to find the music file on the backup drive.  The only ways to change the designation are to either breaks the links and take advantage of iTunes' re-linking tool, or to use the editable .xml version of the library file to hand-edit the file paths and use that file to rebuild the library file with come concurrent loss of data that is only in the .itl version.

  • Time Machine backing up to wrong drive

I woke up this morning to find that my available internal hard disk space had been cut in half. I downloaded a hard disk profiling tool (Disk Inventory X) and found that in /Volumes/Data/ there is now a directory called Backups.backupdb that contains a complete copy of everything on my hard disk, created last night at 2AM.
I opened the Time Machine Preferences panel and looked, and everything appears normal. It's still set to back up to my Time Capsule, just like it was last night. There's no indication that I can find of why it made a complete backup of my internal drive to my internal drive at 2AM.
Has anyone else had an experience like this?
    How can I...
    - safely delete the newly created backup?
    - verify that the existing backup on the Time Capsule is still being updated?
    - make sure that it doesn't backup to the internal drive again?
    Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
    Yes, a few folks have.
    How can I...
    - safely delete the newly created backup?
    Turn Time Machine off.
From a Finder window, select +Go > Go to Folder+ from the menubar, then type /Volumes in the prompt.
Delete the Data folder. That will probably take a very long time. Then Restart your Mac.
    - verify that the existing backup on the Time Capsule is still being updated?
Do a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
Then run a backup and make sure that Data folder doesn't get created again.
    - make sure that it doesn't backup to the internal drive again?
Good question. This isn't common, and seems to be caused by your Mac losing contact with the TC's drive at just the wrong time and in just the wrong way. I don't recall seeing an exact cause, or a way to precent it. See: http://db.tidbits.com/article/9620

  • RAID - wrong drive size displayed...

    Hi
I am setting up RAID for the first time on a MacPro, and am confused about the way the available space on the drives is displayed. It seems to display too much available space.
I have two 500Gb drives in bays 2+3 of my MacPro, and in DiskUTILITY I have set them up as a striped RAID ) set called 'Work'
This is all fine + straightforward - but the available space that finder gives me for this drive is just under 1000Gb - surely this should be reading approx. 500Gb if I have two drives striped together?
This is probably a dumb question, and perhaps I should be expecting this - but it doesnt make sense at the moment and I am wondering if something is wrong.
    thanks for your time

    Stripe = A + B so you should get 2 x 500 (well, more like 960GB probably).
A mirror would be the size of a single drive.
You'll find a lot of help and threads on using the Mac Pro over in its own Discussion area.
I would download the manual and quickstart guide for SoftRAID, LLC or check out Apple's articles.

  • IP4500 DVD Top Printing - Colours WRONG - Driver Issue or what?

    OS10.5.5 QT 7.5.5
I have a Canon IP4500, it worked well for some time printing DVD TOPS. I used Verbatim inkjet printble matte, (& sometimes gloss), white tops, the results have always been excellent. I use DISCUS to design and print my tops.
The printer was idle for a number of weeks when I ran out of ink, and had to wait for replacements.
Since then; when printing DVD tops the colours have been wrong, "red shifted". Dark blue ("Blueberry") prints as "lilac". Green grass printed with a "straw" colour. And apart from NOT looking as CRISP as they have in the past, and the colours being off, the tops seem OK.
I have run all the supplied maintainence programmes that come with the IP4500, noozle clean etc.
I have replaced the ink cartridges with fresh ones.
It was suggested to be by the people at Discus that I download the latest Canon driver for my IP4500 and install it. I have done this. (ip4500sosx693ej7.dmg). Checking through System Preferences/Print & Fax/Options & Supplies/General - Driver Version is listed as 6.9.3, so I assume it's installed properly.
I did a test DVD top print after all that and got the same result, Blueberry as Lilac. I then tried printing the DVD top design on a sheet of white A4 and it looked OK, at least the grass was greener.
So, downloaded and installed lastest driver, (I assume), cleaned the printer noozle and printed a test page which looks fine, which indicates the noozle is clean. Which makes me think the driver didn't install properly. Maybe.
So can anyone suggest anything else I could try? I'm really at a loss.
    Ta.

    Hello Jay,
I have never used Discus (I only use Canon's CD-LabelPrint) but reading through your post it does sound like something is amiss with the driver, although the printing okay on plain A4 throws a spanner in the works for that theory.
Anyway, if you wanted to try removing all the Canon driver files and then installing just the v6.93 driver again, it may prove to be the answer?
The iP4500 files will be located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon > BJPrinter. You can trash all of these files and run the v6.93 installer again. Note that if you ever need a different Canon driver then you can download it from Canon rather than rely on the Meg's worth of outdated printer drivers in this folder...

  • PSE 8 - catalog now shows all pics on wrong drive, ran psedbtool

My current photos are on E:\My Documents\My Pictures.  I recently installed PSE 8 (I'd had PSE 6 and wasn't happy with it) and am in the process of reorganizing and re-tagging everything.  I wanted to get the photos off of my old HD, which is now a removable HD and incorporate them into my catalog.  The pics are on K when I plug in the old HD.  I moved a few of them using PSE, NOT Windows.  Now, my entire catalog shows my pictures are on K instead of E. I also have a bunch in offline volumes (CDs) which are fine. The photos that were actually on E are still on E - but PSE just doesn't know it.  Reading the help topics, I downloaded and ran psedbtool, and will paste the output below.  However, I'm not savvy enough to know what I'm seeing or what to do next to get the catalog to see the photos in their "real" locations.  Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

That was helpful, and I thank you.  I still have a problem that I didn't realize I had.  I can reconnect the thumbnails, as you recommended, that were on the K drive, and they then show up correctly on the E drive.  However (there's always a however, isn't there?)  it turns out that what has happened is that the thumbnails that were on the K drive are the only ones showing up in the Organizer.  All the photos that were *only* on the E drive, which were all tagged, don't show up in the Organizer.  I can import them from their folders on the E drive, and though on some folders it asks if I want the tags to be imported as well, only a very few tags (if any) import.  Virtually everything is "tag-less."  I have checked under "imported tags" and they don't show up there, and of course there's no "tag" symbol with the thumbnails/pics.   I have made sure "details" is checked.  I have run "repair" and "optimize" on the catalog.  I have said many magic words.  I dread having to re-tag all these, and I can't figure out why plugging in that old hard drive caused all this.  I have searched the forums for how to restore tags that were associated with pictures when the pics get re-imported, but I'm really stuck.

  • SB Live! 5.1 Digital causing problems and bad performance , maybe wrong drive

Hi everyone,?my Soundcard is aprinted on the bill ---> ? Creative (B) SB Li've Player 5.printed on the card --->Creative?Labs SoundBlaster Li've! 5. Digital? with Emu0K-JFF chip? and Modelnumber? SB0220which I own since 2003 and my System iswinXP Media Center Edition?, msi KT4Ultra Mainboard and an athlonXP2000+ , GB ddr ram and a Radeon9800Pro with usb keyboard & mouse?I've searched this forum and those threads above the thread-list but it didn't help me out. I am concerning about the recent performance of my pc , especially when it comes to sounds in games. At?"Counterstrike .5" my pc hangs for about half a second or less if I use those "radio commands" like Go-Go-Go or Need-Backup, sometimes if other players use them. Sometimes it does those stupid things like?described below. At "Mercedes Benz World Racing" I recognized that if I hit a Sign or sth else that won't move, it plays a loud sound, as everyone can expect if u hit those things. From that on i can't control my car anymore, well, in fact I am able to, but the controls I?do with my keyboard are ... i would say "buffered" and "doubled" ---- Hit the sign -> immediately
or after that press back to reverse -> car dri'ves about 00-200 meters back, other controls I?do are added after that with delay of each about 2-3 seconds and can't be stopped. I turned down the volume of those sounds and it worked a while, but I am not allowed to increase volume of my pc, else it will go like that again. It results in minimal to zero global sound at this game... My Windows is about 4 months old and I cant find drivers for my soundcard. I've installed the drivers from my creative-cd that came together with my soundblaster. I have downloaded a few driver packages from the creative homepage in earlier times but it is always a try-and-cry to get the proper drivers installed. And?I cant remember which?I had installed?years before. That's my current?c:\windows\system32\drivers\ctaud2k.sys (5.2.0.0252-.3.020, 87,92 KB (837.548 Bytes), 27.09.2007 02:3)?I am not sure which driver?I have installed, but I don't want to?do testing anymore, aswell as searching the creative website like I did several times before, sorry, but it does make me really really really mad and angry. One driver doesn't provide the real bass and the other let's my cthelper use 99% usage, all others are not compatible to my card. Those problems occured the first time for about year or later. At the moment there are no IRQ-conflicts. Please tell me whats wrong here or help me find the right driver.
/Edit: I have to add that I am not using the digital port,?because?I do not own digital speakers, it is just?the X-230?2. system from logitech?Message Edited by BleiBill on 0-2-20070:59 PM

I have been having the same trouble since I upgraded to XP about three years ago.
Now I have a new system and like you said I want to dedicate this older mechine to being a media pc and started looking into things again.
I wanted to update drivers and see that I missed an update in July of 03 or I could use a new patch but my drivers are from march of 03 and I can't find the other update.
Come on SB where is the support we pay a premium to get.

  • Wrong Driver Software

Hello all, I recently installed Win7 64 bit on my laptop. Then I went through the tedious task of looking for and installing all of the drivers I needed.  This led me to a few questions: 1. Will the device work with the wrong device driver?2. Do devices have the ability to use different drivers?   The reason why I am asking is because my old OS was Win 32 bit. And I noticed the drivers seem to be different.  Even on this website when I looked for this specific computer the device drivers just didn't seen to match up as to what I had before. A little explanaiton on this would be great. Everything is working fine, I am just curious why the drivers were different but working? Thank you.

Is it all working now? The hardware is fixed i.e the hardware is the hardware. Devices have a specific plug and play ID. There are versions of drivers old and then newer but a device ID has a specific driver or .inf file and only one. I am pleased you got it all working if that is true. Don't overthink it.
