Quality of video clip noticably reduced when Burning Dvd

Hello everyone, When I Burn a Dvd or veiw my video in the dvd simulator the quality gets significantly reduced. The video looks great before I bring it into Dvd studio pro but then gets somewhat distorted and the video almost seems to ripple in some places. Has enyone had this problem before? I just want to burn nice crisp professional dvds for clients but i can not seem to figure this out. Thanks for any help!

Could be many things from the Final Cut editing settings to the encoding settings to bad media.
Do you have any more details on the workflow? How did you edit, what type of video, what computer/OS, are you watching on the computer or a tv?

  • Unable to obtain full screen when burning DVD

I have a trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements
    8. When burning dvd and then playing on my tv through dvd player I am not getting a full screen. The wide screen video covers about 3/4 of the screen instead of the entire screen. The settings I am using are NTSC widescreen dolbyDVD, and Quality is checked with no changes in quality. The preview screen is set  on a magnificatgion fit. The Video is centered on the preview screen. I have spent hours trying to resolve this problem? I have a trial version and not sure if want to purchase with this problem.
I tried to upload the 8.01 up grade and my computer just blinks on and off; will not load?

I have been having the same problems.  See my discussion threads on aspect ratios in the past few days.
Let me share my thoughts on this.  Apparently Elements 8 is optimized to work on 4:3 CRT TV's; HD flat screen TV's must not have made much penetration in India yet.  So when you set the output for NTSC widescreen, what Elements does is compress the widescreen data into a 4:3 frame, squeezing the image horizontally.  Counterintuitively, what you have to do is select NTSC normal.  Then Elements does not further squeeze the widescreen data.  What it then does is fit it into a 16:9 letterbox, still containing the left and right bars, within the 4:3 frame.  Set the DVD to playback in widescreen mode, which expands the letterbox image to full width of the TV, though retaining the left and right bars, then zoom the TV image to full the screen, to eliminate all the bars top, bottom and sides.  Worked for me, but I used a SD camcorder set to record in widescreen.
A better option might be to change the default pixel aspect ratio, which I am yet unable to effectuate.

  • Hardware Error when burning DVD's

I keep getting an error message when burning DVD's using Toast Titanium on my iMac..it reads:
"Drive Reported an error, Sense key = hardware error, sense code = 0 x 03."
Twice after getting that message I couldn't continue to burn and it stopped, once it did continue to burn and finished successfully. Any ideas, anyone?
    17" iMac G5 w/ iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   upgraded to 1GB RAM

I get the same message today when burning from Toast 7.02 on my iMac. It happened when I was trying to make an audio CD from my iTunes collection (not when Copying from CD to CD). The exact message I got in the middle of my burn was:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = hardware Error
    Sense Code = 0x03, 0x01
I tryed again with another CD and got the same thing. I never had a problem with these CD's (TDK CD-R up to 48x).
I wonder if there has to be some sort of software upgrade fro Roxio Toast or is this a superdrive malfunction/etc. My Superdrive gets very loud during this burn as well. I may take it in to Apple Genius Bar. Any ideas?

  • Setting quality when burning dvd

Hi, I'm working on my first project on my brand new iMac. Finished creating the 23 minute movie, shared it in iDVD and burned it and found the quality to be quite low. I'll try a better quality dvd, but through reading these posts I've seen mention of settings that relate to the quality of a disk...where would this be in the process? Thanks for the help (and the patience!)

    Welcome to the Forum...
Select "Project Info" under "Project" menu item...
Select "Professional Quality" for "Encoding" for the best quality rendering to DVD. The "Best Perf" option is a misnomer...read below for details...
More info from Apple Help file:
+The encoding settings in iDVD are the following:+

    +Best Performance+
+When you select Best Performance, iDVD encodes your video in the background as you’re working on your project instead of waiting until you burn it. This can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to create a finished DVD. This is a good choice if your project is an hour or less in duration (for a single-layer disc). You’ll finish your project more quickly, and the encoding quality will be excellent for the amount of video you have.+
+Best Performance encodes your video at a preset bit rate that produces great quality for projects that can easily fit on your disc. If you have a larger project that needs to be squeezed onto a disc, you should select one of the other encoding options.+

    +High Quality+
+This is the best encoding option for larger projects that are between 1 and 2 hours long (for a single-layer disc). With this setting, iDVD chooses the best bit rate possible for the amount of data you need to fit onto your disc. It’s the only option that “squeezes” all the data onto a disc at a bit rate that ensures a high video quality in your burned DVD. Because iDVD does not encode in the background with this option, it takes longer to burn your disc. The encoding process begins when you burn the DVD instead of when you start working on your project.+

    +Professional Quality+
+The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about time.+

  • How can I match sound quality between video clips and audio clips?

    Hi guys,
First of all let me say that I enjoy using the latest Media Encoder. However, as a novice, I have two related problems.
1.I am recording video to use with PowerPoint slides in Adobe Captivate. I am encoding the video with best quality FLV. This produces very good video,
but with a degraded audio track, even though I had filtered the audio in soundbooth. The post encoding sounds like it did before Soundbooth corrections.
    2. Some of the video recording has been set cut into audio clips to be used as background narration behind PowerPoint. The logic behind this is: that if both are
recorded at the same time, the voice quality should match.
This is far from the outcome. I have tried MP3 for the audio which of course produced the best sound- but is entirely unlike the rest of the video. I have also encoded the audio with Windows Waveform preset figuring that since the soundbooth edit was a .wav file, that there should be a reasonable match. Wrong again!
So, the audio quality of all clips is poor, and the difference between the encoded video clips, and the audio encoded clips spoils the otherwise professional result in Captivate.
Please help, all of you experts.

    Thank you.
    OS Windows 7 x 64; 3.2 MHz; 2 TB; 12 GB Ram-9GB ram allocated to Adobe.
    My process is this:
    1. The whole video and audio narration material is shot in one continuous video sesseion.
    2. The microphone is only mono, but the camera is set to stereo. Noone can work out how to change the camera to mono.
    3. In Premiere Pro 5, I select render and replace in SoundBooth.
    4. In Soundbooth, I choose Add Multichannels.
    5. In Multichannels, I delete the unwanted noisy channel, and any other unused channels.
    6. With the remaining mono channel, I then select Export and Save As option, then Stereo.
    7. Next I edit the stereo channels as needed.
    8. The imported stereo won't automatically update in Premiere Pro, so in PPR I import the new edited stereo track.
    9. I test this track in PPR, to check that it is playing R & L channels. It is. OK.
10 On the timeline, I proceed to cut apart this single stereo wavelength .
11.These clips are saved as Video, or Audio subclips.
12 From the video subclips, I export to Media Encoder, and choose either FLV4 match attributes (High Q). This I modify to custom 2 pass (Custom save).
The summary says that this is saved to MP3 Stereo.
    13. I import this into Captivate 5, but the Video outcome is Left channel only. I have tested this on Media Player/Real Player where it is also L channel only.
    14. I export my Audio subclips to Media player, and select MP3 option and this summary also reports stereo. The Audio outcome is stereo, when played in any player and in Captivate 5.
I cannot understand how a single, continuous track edited uniformly in Soundbooth to stereo, can produce different outcomes in Media player.
I would so appreciate a solution to this problem, because, in the Captivate 5 e-learning production, the switch between stereo audio (behind PowerPoints), and l. channel video is distracting. Naturally, the l. channel only is a thin sound. It is as if it had never been edited in SoundBooth at all.

  • Zooming into video clip a la Ken Burns effect

Sorry for what may be a dumb question with an obvious answer, but I've not ever seen this come up in any FCP forum.
Does the "Ken Burns" effect also work on video clips? That is, if you have a one camera interview shot or tutorial, can you "zoom" in on the person as you might with a still photo? If I had a 2nd camera or some one to shoot for me, it would be less of an issue. But, just to have some movement occasionally instead of a static talking head would be nice. I suppose if overdone, focus and quaility issues would come into play.
    Thanks,
    Dave

The explanation isn't quite right. Scaling is a logrithmic animation. An image at 100% scale fills the screen; when the image is at 50% scale it's a quarter size of the screen. This is why when you scale an image up it seems to get slower and slower as it scales up, and vice versa. Position on the other hand is a linear animation . The difference in the two is the problem.
Tom, you have great experience of this, so I'm a little wary of criticising but are you sure? I see that when scaling an image its area does not vary linearly (technically it's quadratic, not logarithmic, I think) and this will produce the illusion of changing speed which you speak of. Nevertheless, any given point in the image will move with constant speed.
On the other hand, position is not implemented linearly in FCP X. I set up a simple animation to test this, and at the start and end of the movement, the image's Y-coordinate changes by 2 pixels per frame of animation, whereas at the mid-point it changes by 6 pixels per frame: three times as fast.

  • H264 video clip looses sound when imported to FCP X

I have a simple sequence in FCP X for a presentation.  It includes several photographs plus two video clips.  They are H264 and have audio.  But, when I import these two clips to my sequence, one of them looses its audio.  For the life of me I can't figure out why.  It comes in without its audio wave form and has no sound.  Any suggestions?

Post a screen shot of the clip in the browser in list view with waveforms and a screen shot of the timeline with waveforms displayed.

  • Degraded picture when burning dvd

When I complete a project including menus and burn to a dvd I find the picture quality is degraded.  I import avi, vob and wmv files into a project often from vhs or hi8 vhs tapes via a analog to digital converter.  The video looks fine but when it is burned I find the picture is not to clear and often there is ghosting or double images.  What causes this and how can I fix it?

    Sparky
The investment in the Canopus 110 and now the firewire port consideration are major considerations with no assurances that the technology will have any impact on what you seek in your end product. Can you return these devices if they do not work for you?
Could we recap for a moment....given that you have your footage on the Premiere Elements Timeline and it comes time for the Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc and you get your ghosting images in the play back of the DVD.
What does the playback look like with a computer player when the export is instead Publish+Share/Computer/AVI/DV NTSC Standard? I think that I would feel more comfortable knowing that information before moving further.
I have never used a firewire port so I do not have any first hand information to offer; you probably have the same type of general firewire knowledge that I have from a Google search.
We will be watching for your progress and be interested in knowing what that DV AVI standard file looks like with one of the computer players.
    Thanks.

  • No soundtrack when burning dvd

    Hi,
I am in the process of making a DVD for my boss. I made a slideshow using keynote and mixed some songs together in Garagaband, made it into one track which I added to the keynote.
I then exported it to quicktime, selecting where it says I want to add soundtrack and any audio etc. and that all works fine although the timing of the slides is slightly off but I can live with that.
When I go to create the dvd in Idvd it all works fine too, I can hear the soundtrack I created.
But when I burn the dvd and play it in the dvd player: there is no sound to the movie!
If anybody has any ideas....(ideally by tomorrow afternoon which is when I am supposed to be presenting this slideshow of his Bahama cruise....)
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forums.
Audio problems can be related to burning problems, so I'd work on reducing any burn errors by using high quality media (Verbatim is often recommended, I often use Sony DVD-R disks and like them). You can also break down the burning process to reduce errors by using Save as Disk Image from iDVD. Check this with Apple's DVD player to see if it works correctly (a disk image is a virtual DVD on your desktop). If it works fine, then you can copy the disk to a physical DVD using Roxio Toast or Apple's Disk Utility. Set the burn speed down to about half your burner's rated speed (eg, if you have an 8x burner, set the burn speed to 4x). Use the "Professional" preference setting for quality to show his cruise photos in their best light.

  • Audio drops out when burning DVD

    Hello -
I have imported itunes to play behind the video clips - it plays well on screen and through Quicktime Player, but after burning to DVD either through toast or iDVD the camera audio is there but not the itunes. Any suggestions??

    Hi CC:
    Welcome to discussions!
Were the songs purchased from iTunes Store? If so, they are most likely protected and you will need to burn them to an Audio CD and import from that.
