Wrong screen resolution

I know, this is a common problem, but after hours of googling and browsing Wiki and Forums I haven't fixed it. So...
I'm running the latest Arch + KDE on my new laptop, which has AMD graphics card and the display native resolution is 1366x768. But the system can't recognize it, so it runs at "default" configuration (1024*768) and I am not able to change it. It is a bit annoying, but I think I have tried almost everything. I have the open source ATI drivers installed. I have also MODULES="radeon" setting in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf.
First thing I tried was adding the resolution using xrandr. I did the --addmode and --newmode, but --output gave me this error : xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed and after reboot, the added resolution disappeared from xrandr list, leaving "1024x768" as the only option.
I think I have some problems with the drivers than. What should I do to get them working properly ? Or is there any interference with VESA ? Even with the MODULES="radeon" setting ? Also, when I plug in an external 24" (1920x1080) monitor, still recognized just as "default" with 1024x768. I'm stuck. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English.

OK, installed succesfully. Now at least I get an output of lsmod | grep fglrx.
fglrx                5083345  0
amd_iommu_v2            7368  1 fglrx
button                  4663  1 fglrx
I have created xorg.conf with "aticonfig --initial" and rebooted. However, black screen appeared. I have switched to tty and here is the Xorg.0.log : https://gist.github.com/4521646

  • Satellite A - Wrong screen resolution in games

    Hi,
I change the operation system from Windows Vista home to Windows 7 64bit , and I download the Windows driver but when I playing games it appear at 1024*768 pixel and my laptop have 1366*768 pixel.
If any body have a solution to this problem please help

    Hello
Unfortunately I think you must offer more details about your problem like exact notebook model number and all games that you play.
Important point is that the game must support the native screen resolution of your monitor, otherwise you are not able to use 1366*768 pixel. You should check this firstly!
Furthermore make sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and update your DirectX version.

  • Caution: MBP 17" Hi-Res Labeled as Wrong Screen

Purchased a Macbook Pro at Apple store Wednesday, the 17" hi-res model with 1920x1200 matte LED screen (also 7200 rpm drive and 2 GB of RAM options). After getting home, transferring files, and logging into desktop, discovered it was actually a 1680x1050 screen.
Double checked the box, labeled 1920x1200. Double checked the serial number on box and internal to the Mac, and the box matched the system bios. All other custom specs were correct, just the *wrong screen resolution*.
Took it back to Apple store. They said they'd never seen this before. They gave me another one, and after getting home, transferring files, and logging in, I was happy to see it was the correct resolution.
(First guess was maybe the box spec label was the only thing wrong, but the SKU from box serial number label also rang as the hi-res screen, and that serial showed as hi-res screen at Genius Bar, and that serial matched the internal system serial. So somehow the Macbook had had the wrong screen assembled onto it.)
In any case, if you bought the hi-res version last week or so, doesn't hurt to check and make sure you got what you paid for.

I ordered a 17" hi-res glossy LCD (LED back lit) screen around mid May and got a matte screen instead. The label on the box and on the computer all matched the order as hi-res glossy. The display sure looks like a matte version to me. Since I was on the fence on which one to get anyway, I just kept it.
I've had no issues with the MBP or display so far, no stripes or anything like that.

Ahh,yes. Its Maverick running, and i just opened the Box an Hour ago.
    Happy New year

You may inquire of Apple (sales support, complementary support, AppleCare) if they have alternative languages support for their phone service so you can discuss this matter with someone. Or email/call direct about this issue and ask. http://www.apple.com/contact/
If you are in the USA, the 800 number works, but for other countries where the native language not english, or for speakers of non-english in the USA, they may be able to provide accommodation. But I am not certain of anything, except Apple is a large enough company to have probably thought of this.
    {And I've found problematic issue with 'translation software' or machine translations. So I have an idea of what you mean. You may be able to email Support about discussing an issue by phone in another language.}
If you are not in the USA, then other options may exist in 'another country Apple web page' - see link that goes to http://www.apple.com/support/country/ - if you happen to be in a non-USA city, elsewhere.
Also: If you have another display that should be compatible with the computer, attach it to see if the trouble you now face is with the computer or some other branded hardware. And it may be the need for a correct cable...
Hope this can be resolved with satisfaction.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Screen resolution in my 18 All-in-one PC

Screen appears stretched with the result diagrams like circles look like ovals. I am using Windows 7. I tried to adjust the screen resolution but I am given only 3 options none of which solves my problem. How should I adjust? Please help.

I understand that your screen resolution is not what it should be and you do not have the options to correct it properly. I suspece that you do not have the correct drivers installed for your graphics card or they are corrupted. To ensure that you have the correct drivers isntalled please follow the steps below:
First we need to determine what your product number is. You can do this by following the HP Support document that pertains to your computer type
Notebook - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
All-In-One - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Desktop - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Once you have your product number you can use it at HP's Drivers & Downloads page. You should see your computer listed click on it and you will be brought to your computer's drivers page. Select your operating system from the drop-down box. If you are unsure as to what operating system you are running or what version it is you  can use Which Windows operating system am I running? to determine what your operating system is and Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit? to determine what version the operating system is. Once you have your operating system selected click 'Next' and scroll down you will see Driver - Graphics. Click on Driver - Graphics and you will see your Graphics driver. Download and save it to your Desktop or a location you will remember on your computer.
Now that you have your wireless driver downloaded follow the instructions I have set out below:
Step 1. At the Tiles Menu type "device manager"
Step 2. Click on Device Manager
Step 3. Click on Display Adapters
Step 4. Right-click on your Display Adapter and select Uninstall
***Ensure you delete the driver when the option is presented
Step 5. Go to the graphics drivers you downloaded earlier and install them
    Step 6. Restart your computer
***Now try to adjust your screen resolution.
Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Screen resolution in WinPE 5.0 on UEFI devices

    Hi
Can you please help me with the issue i am facing?
The screen resolution in WinPE is very high, the drop down values in MDT wizard are extremely small and almost unreadable. I see a similar question posted on technet for screen resolution in
WinPE 4.0 but I am unable to fix it.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/66bd25d3-cc37-4841-be38-3f427db36b57/winpe-screen-resolution-problem-no-display-signal-out-of-range?forum=w7itproinstall
The HTA screen looks OK but the when you select the drop down, the values are extremely small.
I also referred to the article from Johan
    http://www.deploymentresearch.com/Research/tabid/62/EntryId/51/Setting-screen-resolution-in-WinPE-4-0.aspx
    Below is my setup:
    MDT 2013
    Windows 8.1 x64
    Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 10 (UEFI)
Tried the below but no luck:
Changed the ColorDepth to 32 in unattend.xml in WinPE pass
Tried modifying the Wizard.hta with different screen size and style.zoom
Playing around with the HTA settings might help but i am unsure how it looks and behaves on other UEFI devices.
Currently we are using Lenovo Tablet 10 but soon will also be using Surface Pro.
Am I missing something or is there a better way to do fix it?

    Hi,
If our only issue is this particular font size, we can adjust some setting in files of
     script folder.
For example,  open  DeployWiz_LanguageUI.xml under Scripts folder, here is just an example to make keyboard layout font large.
    Find:
    <SELECT NAME="KeyboardLocale_Edit" class=WideEdit >
    Edit it as:
    <SELECT NAME="KeyboardLocale_Edit" class=WideEdit style="font-size: 30px" >
    The result is just like:
About the root cause, there would be something wrong with the WinPE image, in my test, WinPE 5 works good under UEFI mode. You can recreate one for test.

  • Screen Resolutions in OSX 10.8

Maybe someone can help, but if not - Apple, please sort this out, I've read complaints all over the net going back years...
Screen Resolutions. This isn't difficult Apple. The video card in my 2008 Mac Pro (a geforce somethignorother) can display all manner of resolutions - pretty much anything under 25**x1*** (whatever that res is) is supported. I know this because nvidia state as much on their website, and also because every single video card since the beginning of time (which, for me and computers, was circa 1996) can do it.
So why, when I connect a 24" Acer LCD screen (with a native resolution of 1920x1200) via VGA (vga because it's what I've got running under the floor) do the video resolution options in OSX only include 4:3 and 16:9 formats? I don't want 1920x1080. It's pathetic. My 2006 mac pro running 10.5 has no such problem. This 2008 Mac pro had no such problem while running 10.6 a few years ago.
Here's another example. After giving up with the 24" Acer (being advised to BUY a bit of software to access a resolution is ridiculous), I plugged in my 32" Sony LCD screen, again via VGA. This was interesting. Sony on their website stated that 1360x768 was the highest resolution accessable via VGA, despite the TV supporting 1920x1080 via digital inputs. As soon as OSX detects the TV then surely, 1360x768 is the highest offered resolution. But, if I boot the computer without the TV being on, then switch the TV on, I can set it to 1920x1080, and all is well. Work that one out Sony. A combination of Sony trying to limit their cheap tvs, and Apple interfering.
Anyway, my basic argument and complaint is this: I hate little more than computers that think they're smarter than the user. Even if we disgard the Sony example (which is doubtless a line of code written in the TV, rather than a technical limitation (as I own the 37" version of the TV, and it works at 1080p via VGA no probs - doubt they've engineered two different VGA circuits...)) - there is no excuse for OSX wrongly detecting a screen and displaying incorrect resolutions. Have an idiot mode by all means, but let me adjust the resolution beyond that. Give me access to all resolutions at all times.

Apple doesn't routinely monitor these discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Qosmio G20: How to get higher screen resolution on external 22" monitor

I have a Qosmio G20 and today I bought a Samsung 226BW external screen. The Samsung has a max/optimal resolution of 1680x1050px. The Toshiba manual sais the laptop supports an external screen resolution up to 2048x1536 ...
I have now tried all kinds of settings, but the highest resolution I get on the external monitor is 1440x900 (- same as the laptop).
1440x900 on the 22" screen is not enough for serious picture editing; it simply looks unsharp.
What am I doing wrong? I deeply appreciate any answers/feedback; because if 1440x900 is all I can get, I have to take the xternal monitor back to the store ...
if anyone is so kind !?
    Espen.

    Hi
The available screen resolution depends on the graphic driver. You cannot choose the favorite resolution of 1680x1050 because the graphic card driver doesnt support it.
Maybe a graphic driver update could helps.
By the way; a inf file should be supplied by the monitor manufacture. You can install such file making right click and choosing install.

  • Screen resolution preferences does not work for me...

I have a 1920x1080, 17.4 laptop. That is approx 126.6 ppi screen resolution if my calculkations are correct...
So in order to set PS to display real size of the images according to the zoom, I go to edit / preferences / units & rulers and set the screen resolution to 126.6 instead of the default 72ppi.
But nothing changes...what am I doing wrong? 100% zoom is still showing much larger image than real (as if 72ppi screen resolution was unchanged). I have tried extreme ppi like 10 and 1000 to see if anything chaged but still nothing, I have restarted Ps and the laptop, and the preferences are correctly saved but zoom still wrong...
    Help very much appreciated!

It works when you go to the View menu and select Print Size. When you load an image and turn on (Ctrl r) Rulers, the on screen rulers the should match a physical ruler and the image would be the same size onscreen as it would be on paper. This function needed your screen resolution in order to accurately do this.
You should use your horizontal screen size in inches, not your diagonal screen size as 1024 is the horizontal pixel dimensions of your screen.
Screen resolution (ppi) = 1024 px/horizontal size inches.

  • ITunes Screen Resolution bigger than Window

      Hello,
Everytime I load iTunes the screen resolution is screwed up, almost as if iTunes is sized for a different screen size?  I do sometimes connect my Macbook Pro to a television so I'm not sure if that is part of the problem.   Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

Thank you so much, michaelc. I'm not that expert to manage those terminal lexicum, but you gave me the clue for solving this problem on my MacBook.
What I did, which results easier than anything else, was replacing the file "AppConfig.plist" on "Spanish.lproj" with a copy of the file with the same name on "English.lproj", and voilá!
That's such annoying that this bug hasn't been fixed, not yet on iTunes 11.0.2. iTunes feedback seems to go nowhere…
PS: Please, michaelc, answer the discussion I posted about the same topic, so I can mark your answer as the correct one.

  • T510 Screen resolutions error?

To my knowledge, the screen resolution of 15,6" models should be as follows:
    HD: 1366 x 768
    HD+: 1600 x 900
    FHD: 1920 x 1080
Then why on European Lenovo websites all T510 models are listed as 15.6 " HD+ AntiGlare 1366x768 ??
Here is Italy, Germany and Denmark.

    Good question.
The Lenovo european sites haven't been as good and accurate as they used to be.
    The system you linked to is described on the supprt site as follows;
    Product: ThinkPad T510 4349-4JG
    Original description: i7-620M(2.66GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 15.6in 1600x900 LCD, 512MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn, Gobi2000 WWAN, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 9c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64
The european sites are simply wrong.

  • Why does Screen Resolution NOT offer orientation option?

This HP OMEN gaming laptop is the first PC I've owned (out of maybe a dozen) that doesn't offer orientation options on the Screen Resolution screen. Even the "help" thinks it should be there. I've searched for hours by now, wanting to avoid having to ask what should be so simple. For a seperate issue, I updated my graphics driver approximately 7/05/15. That issue was successfully resolved, so I know the update "took". Can't find it in any of the Nvidia choices either. SO many programs presume it to be available, many have stopped offering it within the program settings. Ideas, please? Thank you.

I took out the modules in mkinitcpio.conf, took off all the kernel additions, and borrowed a monitor from a different computer in the house.  Everything says this should work, so i figured the TV may be the problem.  It is.  I had the TV hooked up with my Nvidia card on the old machine, and it worked perfectly.  It did add fan noise, so I wanted to be rid of it if possible.
With the new monitor, it works perfectly.  lsmod shows the i915 module loaded.  Hook it back up to the TV (which is DVI to HDMI), nothing.  This is some other issue, I think, so I'm marking this one solved.
Note:  The SVIDEO line was wrong; a re-read of the archwiki page on KMS showed me that the line needs to be formatted as follows:
    The format is: video=<conn>:<xres>x<yres>[M][R][-<bpp>][@<refresh>]"["i"]"[m][eDd]
so the line should have been video=DVD-D:etc, rather than video=SVIDEO:etc
Quotation marks above aren't really there; I can't figure out how to get a square bracket i to work without them; the forum kicks me an error.

  • 24" Alum iMac screen resolutions

Is there any way to change the screen resolution to 1600x1000 on the new 24" imacs? There are several other options on the display preferences but not this one. Anything other than the native is too fuzzy and the native 1920x1200 makes everything on the screen to way small to see from a safe distance..and I do wear glasses! It does put a lot of strain in my eyes.I know I can increase the size of the icons and text, but the Adobe pallets and other content is just too small. It shows up on my 23" cinema display with Mac Pro.

    oskar10 wrote:
I know it is not crystal clear as native, but it does not look bad at all on my 23" cinema display. Why can't I set my imac to this resolution?
It's more than likely (I could be wrong) monitor based?
Let's use windows for an example. I have 2 monitors, both supporting different resolutions, the graphics card supports dozens of combinations but monitor 1 only supports certain ones, and monitor 2 only supports certain ones.
I plug in monitor 1 on my windows pc (using windows as an example) and I can set to all these widescreen resolutions. I plug in monitor 2 and the only resolutions I get are some widescreen and most of them non-widescreen.
The iMac display may only support certain types which is being detected by the OS and those are the only given options you have.
The cinema display is recognized as supporting other resolutions and thus THOSE are displayed as options.

  • HT1147 Screen Resolution 24" iMac

My screen resolution on a 24" iMac is 1920 x 1200. An accidental bump of the keyboard increased the size of the screen so that it cannot all be seen. I tried other resolution but none worked. What options, other than resolution, are there for reducing screen size? Now, if the top is visible, the bottom isn't!
    Thanks!

  • Screen resolution problem - HP computer and LED Cinema Display

I just purchased an HP Envy Phoenix H9-1330 with Windows 8, and I connected it to my 27" Mac LED Cinema Display, but the resolution is horrible. The highest option in the screen resolution menu is 1280 x 720, and I'm getting the error message "Your resolution is lower than 1024 x 768. Some items might not fit and apps might not open". How do I fix this? What kind of issue is this (Windows 8? Graphics card? HP can't support my monitor? etc...)?
I just bought another brand new computer, but not an HP, with Windows 8 and I have no problems with the resolution - it looks absolutely beautiful. I want to use my monitor with my HP desktop though.
    Thanks for any help

    Still haven't figured it out....
BUT I did notice that, on the back of the computer, there are 2 additional DVI connections that are covered with a black cover and screwed in (and they say 'please do not remove'.... I'm asuming it's because they aren't connected to anything? Or maybe they aren't connected to the graphics card?). Is it possible that just my DVI connection is wrong, and I'll need to connect to one of these covered-up DVI inputs instead? But why are they covered up? Do I need to take it in so they can be connected to the graphics card?? Help! I don't want to return this computer, but I will have to if I can't get the resolution fixed.
