WRT54GL Telnet, AD-hoc

Hey,
I need to use my AP WRT54GL as AD-hoc for connect with my WET54G in bridge mode. 
In the web-gui I couldn't to find modes infrasttructure/ad-hoc. Google sad that I can to turn on ad-hoc in the telnet. But I can't to telnet into my Linksys.  

A WRT does not support bridging with standard Linksys firmware. There is also no telnet access.
You can flash third party firmware like dd-wrt on your WRT. That will do what you want to do. Please remember that using 3rd party firmware on a router will void your warranty. For more questions ask in a dd-wrt forum.

  • Not able to access the Lynksys WRT54GL router

    This is Vijay here. Few months back i had upgraded my Lynksys router with Coova AP firmware. Everything was working fine. I had configured the AAA server on CoovaAP and was able to access the internet.I had configured the user name and password as a "testuser" and "password" respectively. With that user id i used to access the Coova AP router and internet.
    Now i want restore the WRT54GL firmware on Lynksys router. But with the used id and password which i had configured the router is not at all accessible. So i did 30-30-30 reset on the router 2-3 times.
    Now i can see openwrt login page with 192.168.1.1 IP address. It is asking for user id and password. I tried all the combinations of user id and password, but no luck. I browsed some link on the internet and some people have recommended that default user id as a "root" and blank password. But with that also the router is not accessible. I cant to do much on the router untill i will log in to router. I have spent lot of time on this.
    Can somebody please tell me how to restore back the original WRAT54GL firmware on my router. Anyhow i want WRAT54GL firmware on Lynksys router. Can somebody tell me how to achieve this?? Or atleast what user id and password should i try to log in to router?? It will be great help.
    I tried to use telnet command on the router (Connected router to linux based computer with ethernet cable). But telnet also not working. It is not asking for password, and it saying disconnected.
    I am stuck on this router from almost 1.5 weeks. Can somebody please tell me some solution.

    Ask in a openwrt forum. They should know how you can upload a new firmware file.

  • LMS 3.2 netconfig telnet password configuration customization

    I am trying to configure telnet vty password using netconfig. I want to make the configuration only for line vty 0-4 however I am not able to find a way to define the line numbers. Moreover it also has the login command added by itself.
    The default configuration it shows is as follows -
    line vty 0 %MAXLINENUMBER%
    password *******
    login %authentication default%
    exit
    And how I want to configure is as follows - 
    line vty 0 4
    password *******
    exit
    Please suggest if there is any way.

    Your're quite correct, in thinking that this might not work. But lucky for you - it does work.
    Simply paste the whole config you need in the ad-hoc tasks and deply it.
    Like this:
    line vty 0 4
    password cisco12345
    login
    That's it, - no need to add "exit" either.

  • Get RSSI between any two devices for WRT54GL in adhoc mode?

    Hi,
    I am running five WRT54GL routers in ad-hoc mode (with OpenWRT installed). Routing protocol is AODV. I would like to find out if it is possible to retreive the RSSI values between any two of these devices by some available methods (as opposed to just getting the RSSI at an interface level)?
    When I check the /proc/net/wireless file in any one of the routers, it appears that there is only one RSSI shown at its own interface level, and not 4 RSSI values, with respect to each for the other 4 devices within communication range.

    As you have tired all the settings on your WAP, and still its not working in an AP mode. I would suggest you to Re-Flash the firmware of your WAP. Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your AP in serach tab......select proper version of your AP........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop. Once you have downloaded the firmware on your AP.
    Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
    Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the AP...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.245...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your AP :
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your AP, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your AP...
    I think this might solve your problem.

  • Problem trying to build an ad-hoc wifi network between Leopard and Win XP

    Hello,
    I hope this question was not previously posted despite my attempts to find one related.
    I am trying to do something that sounded very basic to me until I tried to do it : connect a Windows XP equiped PC and a Leopard equiped Power G4, through an ad-hoc wifi network (in order to later develop a crossed platforms client/server app ).
    What I did :
    - Create a network from Leopard using both default (11) and specified (6 <-> default one under Win XP) channels
    - Connect to this (detected) network on Windows.
    - Try to ping (in a terminal with the suiting IPs) between each other...
    But this looked like they are not connected, or that they cannot discuss together, though they are obviously connected together.
    I also tried to create the network from Windows (although it is not as friendly as it is through Leopard Interface), the same way, but without the possibility to specify the channel (that should be 6 according to some forum read on the net ). I then connect to it through the PC and the Mac. The result is the same... indeed! No Ping, no telnet, nothing...
    Then, I am wondering if there is something that is so specific to each platform that they cannot connect together or if there is something I did wrong. Since I am not used to networking and, furthermore, the Mac World (ie newcommer to it), I may have missed some basic thing. So, I any of you have an idea, it'd be welcome .

    I managed to connect them finally. But I still can't understand what was the exact problem, though I know now where it was :
    My Win PC was also connected to a company network. When I disconnected it and connected it with the Mac instead, everything suddenly went fine! It also works of course if no computer is connected to the company network.
    Now, this solves my problem but does not answer my question. There are obviously skills I missed about networking.. do any of you know why the connection of this company network ruined my ad-hoc network when connected on the PC and not when connected on the Mac?

  • WRT54GL v1.1 Wireless Problem

    Greetings,
       I have a WRT54GL Router. I have 2 desktops hard wired and 2 wireless laptops. The problem I am having is that my laptop keeps dropping the connection to the internet. My wife's laptop always stays connect along with the 2 desktops. I can be setting right beside her with my laptop and mine will lose the internet connection. Right now I have WPA set up, I have had WEP set up in the past but I am still having the connection issue with my laptop. Any suggestions?

    EssbaseCluster-1: Administrator, Create/Delete Application, Server Access, Provisioning Manager. Only Administrator can submit data in smart view (ad-hoc analysis). But I don't want to grant Essbase administrator to planners, I'm just interested to give them ability to load data through ad-hoc analysis. Please suggest!

    I take that you refreshed the Planning security, If not refresh the security of those users. Managing Security Filters
    Check in EAS whether those filters are created with "Write" permissions.

  • Ad Hoc distribution under Enterprise license

    I have a customer who's workforce has a 1,000 iPads and is interested in distributing their publications either Ad-Hoc or through Internal Distribution, without going through the Apple Store. Are there any issues, limitations using the Enterprise License with Adobe DPS?
    I understand Apple has a 100 unit limit on Ad-Hoc using the Developer License.

    Apple has a 100 device limit per provisioning profile for ad hoc distribution. It's a cumbersome method at best and won't scale easily to 1000 ipads.
    The correct solution for this type of desired behaviour is an Apple Enterprise license and DPS. This will let you build an app that can be distributed outside the Apple app store, to your employees only. Depending on theneed to control the level of access to content, folios can either published as public free ( controlling access by controlling the app distribution) or published as public/retail using the direct entitlement APIs to provide login level access to the folio within the app.

    As you see here, for some reason wlan-ng** and ipw3945*(older driver) made it into my machine aswell, let alone ndiswrapper, that i never used.No matter what, my net after i booted the new kernel was broken. I couldnt connect using the "network" script (see below) as i used to.On boot kernel using just udev , was loading for some reason all ipw3945/iwl3945/ndiswrapper!So to minimize conflict possibilities, i removed wlan-ng26/wlan-ng26-utils , as well as ipw3945/ipw3945d and ndiswrapper. I blacklisted all the above aswell so to be sure that only the recommended iwl3945/mac80211 combo will run .

    Aha! somethng goes wrong at low level there. Only randomly the pings are echoed for 3 or 4 seconds, and then again my wifi card looses association and starts all over taking random time to reassociate.
    As a side note, the hardware *did* work properly since it was operating flawlessly before last update, *AND* *does* work properly , since i can boot from my FaunOS usb stick , and get it work properly.This all seem strange to me. In case any of you can recognize wthere this is some sort of configuration problem, upstream code problem, or package problem i would be glad to hear it , as i have been trying to figure out what is going wrong for 5 days now.I havent yet tried managed more, but it is not an option for me at the moment.

    Well after getting tired trying out little things here and there with iwl3945/mac80211 and rc.conf et al. i gave ndiswrapper 1.52 a shot and it worked. Now i have my network back. So this reduces i guess the possibility for a script error causing this issue? So it is a iwl3945/mac80211 error? Should i file a bug for this somewhere with all the data i have in this thread and my braincells regarding this issue,  since the suggested open source linux drivers dont work after upgrading to 2.26.6?

  • ITunes Remote app on Ad Hoc network (Windows 7)

    Is it possible to use the iTunes Remote to control a computer that is using a wireless card to create an "Ad Hoc" network.  I plan on building a computer for storing my Apple Lossless files on a Windows 7 machine and using it strictly for playback as a standalone device.  I will be pairing it with a USB DAC & Headphone amp combination.
    I either need to buy a monitor (not wanting to do this) or find a way to be able to navigate my iTunes library from this machine without a screen (prefered).  I will NOT have an internet connection at work where I will be using this, however I could purchase a wireless card to install in this itx machine to create an ad hoc network provided I could then use the iTunes Remote app to control playback and view albumn art, etc.
    Is this setup possible, or am I chasing a dream?

  • Can't ping, telnet, SSH or find APs in ARP, but associated to WLC & has clients

    Hi All,
    I have an interesting problem. I have a Cisco 2504 WLC, and six Access Points that are associated to it.  I can reach 4 of the access points, which are connected to Cisco 300 POE switches, but the other 2 I cannot ping, telnet, SSH or find in the ARP table on the network.  However, they are both associated to the WLC and as far as I can tell, they have clients associated to them.  If I reboot them from the WLC, they find their way back to the correct WLC, and the WLC sees them in CDP, but I still can't access them in any way.
    The two problem APs appear to be connected to ports 3 & 4 on the WLC, which are the POE ports. I read some documentation that says that those ports don't support Access Points but basically that you can still connect them and have it work, but don't expect any help from Cisco if you run into problems.  I've confirmed that POE is being supplied in the port configs, and I have other sites with WLC's that are configured identically with APs on ports 3 & 4 that are up and not having any issues.
    Wondering if anyone has had similar issues and if so, can you shed any light on this strange behavior?

  • Not able to telnet or ssh to outside interface of ASA and Cisco Router

    Dear All
    Please help me with following question, I have set up testing lab, but still not work.
    it is Hub and spoke site to site vpn case, connection between hub and spoke is metro-E, so we are using private ip for outside interface at each site.
    Hub -- Juniper SRX
    Spoke One - Cisco ASA with version 9.1(5)
    spoke two - Cisco router with version 12.3
    site to site vpn has been successful established. Customer would like to telnet/ssh to spoke's outside ip from Hub(using Hub's outside interface as source for telnet/ssh), or vise versa. Reason for setting up like this is they wants to be able to make configuration change even when site to site vpn is down. Sound like a easy job to do, I tried for a long time, search this forum and google too, but still not work.
    Now I can successfully telnet/ssh to Hub SRX's outside interface from spoke (ASA has no telnet/ssh client, tested using Cisco router).
    Anyone has ever done it before, please help to share your exp. Does Cisco ASA or router even support it?
    When I tested it, of cause site to site vpn still up and running.

    On this case on the ASA, you should have the following:
    CConfiguring Management Access Over a VPN Tunnel
    If your VPN tunnel terminates on one interface, but you want to manage the ASA by accessing a different interface, you can identify that interface as a management-access interface. For example, if you enter the ASA from the outside interface, this feature lets you connect to the inside interface using ASDM, SSH, Telnet, or SNMP; or you can ping the inside interface when entering from the outside interface. Management access is available via the following VPN tunnel types: IPsec clients, IPsec LAN-to-LAN, and the AnyConnect SSL VPN client.
    To specify an interface as a mangement-only interface, enter the following command:
    hostname(config)# management access management_interface
    where management_interface specifies the name of the management interface you want to access when entering the security appliance from another interface.
    You can define only one management-access interface
    Also make sure you have the pertinent configuration for SSH, telnet, ASDM and SNMP(if required), for a quick test you can enable on your lab Test:
      SSH
    - ssh 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
    - Make sure you have a default RSA key, or create a new one either ways, with this command:
        *crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
    Telnet
    - telnet 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication telnet console LOCAL
    Afterwards, if this works you can define the subnets that should be permitted.
    On the router:

    Hi there,
    Just add a new IP address for ssh to ASA, this will kick start the demon.
    This new IP does not have to be a real one.

    Not sure if you fixed the issue. But by selecting No Authentication when you create an Ad Hoc connection, iDevices connect to the ad hoc. I use it all the time at office to browse internet where my 3G signals are weak.
