LMS 3.2 netconfig telnet password configuration customization

I am trying to configure telnet vty password using netconfig. I want to make the configuration only for line vty 0-4 however I am not able to find a way to define the line numbers. Moreover it also has the login command added by itself.
The default configuration it shows is as follows -
line vty 0 %MAXLINENUMBER%
password *******
login %authentication default%
exit
And how I want to configure is as follows -
line vty 0 4
password *******
exit
Please suggest if there is any way.

Your're quite correct, in thinking that this might not work. But lucky for you - it does work.
Simply paste the whole config you need in the ad-hoc tasks and deply it.
Like this:
line vty 0 4
password cisco12345
login
That's it, - no need to add "exit" either.

Make sure you have filled out all of the HTTP/HTTPS credential data in DCR for these devices. RME will only use HTTPS to fetch VPN concentrator configurations.

Single Sign On is optional.
What would happen is that the user that's using the Web Application Designer will have to have access to Portals, and the portal Sign On screen will appear once that user executes a Web Template.
It also depends on the Portal Strategy and the Security Strategy of your client. For example, the portal may only grant access to those used IDs in the Active Directory, so if your BEx WAD user is not defined in Active Directory that user will not have access to portals, and will not be able to execute the Web Template.

Password configuration settings and SAP Updates

Hi,
I'll be glad if somebody could help me with the following. I'm working on GRC AC 5.1 and wanted to change the password configuration settings (to make them match the actual company policy). I'm assuming this could be done through the Web Dynpro configuration, but do not know how to change them.
Additionally, I would like to see what SAP updates have been applied to this instance. Is there a way to see this?. Wher could I find the latest SAP updates for GRC AC 5.1 and apply them? I'm also assuming this is performed through the Dynpro.

CD Drive - password configuration?

I just bought my MacBook Pro from the student union, and at first i thought something was malfunctioning on itunes until i tried loading my Apple Care software, and found it was unable to read the disc. Is there any password configuration you have to do to be able to use your drive?

Well we need your model number and Windows version but I will try to help before we get that. The lens on the drive may be dirty in which case you can run a cleaner disk you can buy at any video store. Or, the drive may be going bad in which case it will need to be replaced. A replacement drive is not usually very expensive or hard to replace even for a novice, but that is why I need the model. The process and part varies quite a bit from model to model.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONFIGURATION & CUSTOMIZATION:
The difference between cutomizing and configuration is:
- CONFIGURATION: we will configure the system to meet the needs of your business by using the existing data.
- CUSTOMIZING: we will customize or adapt the system to your business requirements, which is the process of mapping SAP to your business process.
- CLIENT: A client is a unique one in organizational structure, can have one or more company codes. Each company code is its own legal entity in finance.
Configuration vs. Customization
When considering enterprise software of any type, it is important to understand the difference between configuration and customization. The crux of the difference is complexity. Configuration uses the inherent flexibility of the enterprise software to add fields, change field names, modify drop-down lists, or add buttons. Configurations are made using powerful built-in tool sets. Customization involves code changes to create functionality that is not available through configuration. Customization can be costly and can complicate future upgrades to the software because the code changes may not easily migrate to the new version. Wherever possible, governments should avoid customization by using configuration to meet their goals. Governments also should understand their vendor's particular terminology with regard to this issue since words like "modifications" or "extensions" often mean different things to different vendors.
And Most Important thing is configuration always will come first then customization.
CONFIGURATION:
1. Configuration is everything else done in SPRO.
2. Configuration is what u do from the existing one in sap.
Ex: assigning pricing procedure PR00 for a material.
3. When installing SAP on any system. thats configuration.
4. Configuration means using the standard SAP functionality & mapping to the clients process
CUSTOMIZATION:
1. Customizing is modification of the software to meet special customer requirements.
    Changes or additions to ABAP code.
2. Customization is the changes needed for the existing SAP to meet the business
     Requirement.
     Ex: creating a new pricing procedure which is not existing in the SAP.
3. Modifications according to business requirement is customization.
4. Customization means modifying the standard SAP for client requirement, it is costly &
     Time taken.

LMS 3.0 is a very old version. You can refer to the product documentation here to start. The "Installing and Getting Started Guide" there should be useful.
You may want to take a look at this guide for LMS 4.1. Some of the terms are updated to reflect the application's changes over the past couple of years but the concepts are applicable.

Telnet Password Enabling

Hi,
how to set telnet password via network? i know that we can set telnet password via network thru CNA, when "enable password" is set. but is it possible for cisco 1700 series routers to set telnet password? bcos CNA doesn't for routers, any other options?

If you are trying to set a password on Telnet access go to config mode and do the follwoing:
line vty 0 4
login
password (your password)

LMS Software Image Management - Telnet failure

Hi all,
I had a problem with Software Image Management for the upgrade of a switch.
It seems that at the end of the upgrade, CiscoWorks was unable to save the configuration with telnet.
Yet, telnet seems to be ok because CiscoWorks manages to connect to the switch at the beginning of the upgrade.
Updating config file during software upgrade processDevice running-config is modified but failed to save the running-config to startup-config.Cause: Could not detect SSH protocols running on the device
TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET connection to 10.1.3.4 -Cause: Authentication failed on device 3 times.
I sent attached the logs of the upgrade.

I do not understand why LMS does not use ssh if possible at the finish of the job? Why telnet authentication fails ?

How LMS 3.1 uses SNMP passwords

Hi
We are currently in the process of changing our SNMP RO passwords on devices via using groups in DCR. As this is to be a stage by stage excercise (i.e 20 devices one week, 20 devices the following week), does the SNMP need to be changed as a default within Ciscoworks and where do you do this and any problems this could cause ?
As far as I can see the SNMP RO password from ciscoworks is used to verify device info in the DCR and not for device config retrieval that is performed from RME. Is this correct ?

AFAIK, the SNMP RO string gets used in IPM and CiscoView for reading certain configurations (and SNMP RW is used for writing configuraitons). And after seeing this thread: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2003225?tstart=0, it seems Campus Manager might use the RW too, which is news to me.
If you're not using those LMS components, you can probably get away with leaving obsolete SNMP strings in DCR.

LMS 4.0.1 - telnet from topology services map

On a LMS 4.0.1 :
I want to know what is the right way to change the telnet program on the campus mgr map (topology services map), when right-clicking a device icon and selecting telnet.
I would like to use a tool of mine, and not to launch a telnet command from the IE browser.
I changed the default telnet of Windows in the registry, but the program is still launched as a telnet URL in the browser and this is not what I would like to do.
If anybody has any clue ? thanx

With LMS 4.0.1 I use Java 1.6.
The Java Plug-in control panel is different (no way to configure the DCMSSH parameter).
And this parameter is used with LMS 2.5 or 2.6 as per the example in the link you provided.
are you certain it applies to LMS4.0.1 as well ?
Additionaly, I don't want to use SSH, but only Telnet.

Prime LMS 4.2 to save devices configurations "copy run start"

we need to create a job on LMS to save the configurations on the network devices, like everyday LMS should run "copy run start" on all the devices.

You can create a NetConfig job using LMS, which can do this for all LMS managed devices. You can simple select an Adhoc job and use command copy run start and schedule as per you requirement.

Also, You can generate an Out-of-Sync report for the group of devices for which running configurations are not synchronized with the startup configuration from :
From here you can directly sync the devices which will do the same task of doing copy run start. Unfortunately, it cannot be scheduled and hence needs to be checked manually usually.

I have a requirement, For security reasons database username and password are changed every 15 days. and the username and password will be exposed via a webservice.
Now my query is how to configure the username and password dynamically in our project.
We are using JDBCTemplate to access datasource and execute queries.
Please help how to approach this problem.

LMS 3.2 Netconfig, Email Output

Below is version information. Via the CLI, I have setup a NetConfig job to run show ephone commands on a router. I get the email status alerts (creation, approval, deletion etc) but I wanted to know if I can actually send outcome of those commands in an email (part of the body or an attachement) rather than logging into LMS and viewing it from there.

LMS 3.2 Netconfig Not Attempted

Hi,
We have LMS 3.2 in production. Some new devices have been discovered and added to the DCR. The config backup for these devices are working fine.
The Net config jobs are giving the output as " Not attempted".
what could be the reason for this.
The same user name and password is working from a terminal emulation software on LMS system.
