WRT54GS Laptop won't connect

I finally got the router to work. When I turn my laptop on and search for a wireless network, it shows my lynksys connection; but, when I try to connect to it, it won't connect. I have connected ONCE since I set it up, but have not been able to since.
Not sure what kind of info I need to supply here to get the answer I need. All I know is my PC (that the router is connected to) has Windows XP OS and the laptop is Vista. Don't know if that helps or not.
If you need more info, please let me know what it is, and I will try to get it for you.

You need to change the Wireless Settings of your router...
Follow the links here to change your Network Name/SSID and to enable Wireless Security...
To change the Network Name or SSID ,
To enable Wireless Security
After changing the settings on your Laptop...Click on Start>>Control Panel>>Network and sharing Center>>Connect to a Network...You should be able to see your wireless network name (SSID)...Select your network and click connect, it will ask you to enter your password which should be your network key or key...Enter your password and click connect...It should connect to your network and internet...If not just reboot the laptop and try to go online...

  • Wrt54g laptop wireless modem connected to router but will not access in any browsers.

I started a friends laptop at my house put in the security key and it connected to my network with excellent strength.  When I opened IE or Safari it said unable to access page not connected to the internet.
I went into the properties of the wireless modem and checked to see if it matched my wireless laptop. It was slightly different with not all the same options.  I changed something and now I can not get it to connect at all.
I hooked the friends laptop to my lan line and it works perfectly of course, so I know it has to be in the settings.
Any answers to the first problem of browsers not connecting,  And anyway you can help me get the friends laptop settings back to where they were?
    Thanks

Connect a computer to the Router, Open the Setuppage by 192.168.1.1 , password "admin"
Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode
should be mixed- Provide any non linksys network name ....
Name (SSID) box- Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID
broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>
Now Click on the Sub tab under wireless > "Wireless Security" Change the
Wireless security mode to "WEP"...and put a 10 digit key in key1 and keep a note of the key and click save settings ...
Then on your laptop try to connect to the netwok with the key.

  • WPA Personal - The second laptop won't connect

I have purchased the wireless router WRT54G. I have managed to configure the internet properly, and as well managed to connect wireless with the laptop through which I have made the setup.
If I disable the Wireless Security I can easily connect also the other laptop I have in the house. But when I set the Wireless Security to WPA Personal then I can only connect with the laptop through which I have runned the setup for the router.
I would appreciate any help please. Thanks.

Hi, have you checked if your wireless network functions if you enable WEP encryprion ? check that out.. Also since this is specific to security , check what is the current firmware your router is using ...upgrade if necessary

  • My toshiba laptop won't connect to my HP Envy 4500 printer

I have recently attempted connecting my Toshiba laptop, which runs Windows 8, wirelessly to my HP Envy 4500 printer. I'm trying to scan something onto my laptop, which I have done with the printer before. I have the remote app, and I have connected to the printer's wireless network that pops up in the wifi section of my computer. However, when attempting to get the printer to scan, using the option on the printer's screen, it said that no device was connected, and to make sure the software was installed and that scan to pc was enabled. I opened the app on my laptop, hoping to get better results using it that was, but it told me that the printer was offline, though it was clearly on. I am not entirely sure why the printer is not recognizing my laptop, even though my laptop recognizes it. I spent nearly two hours disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as turning the printer off about three times. I am about to uninstall the app and try reinstalling it, but I am doubting the results will be any better.
I see no other way to fix this problem, as there is no USB port in which to connect a USB cable, like myprevious printer, and am wondering if it is my latop, not the printer, that is faulty. It works for printing when it comes to the other devices in my household, but I have had problems even printing with my Toshiba before. I have only attempted scanning with one other device: a HP Pavillion Media Center TV PC desktop. I am starting to think that the scanner is defaulting to only reognizing other HP products, and request any and all advice in fixing this issue.
    This question was solved.

    Hi AMakkei,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you cannot scan with your HP Envy 4500 to your Windows 8 laptop, and I am happy to help you with this connection issue!
For further assistance, I will need to know following information:
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
If the power cable plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please try going through this guide. A 'Computer Not Found' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning, and let me know what happens!
Hope to hear from you, and have a good day!

  • My laptop won't connect to my printer

    Hello!
My printer was working just fine for the past year, it was connected to my laptop with the wifi. Until yesterday...
There seems to be something wrong with the connection, but both my laptop and the printer are on the same wifi. I have tried to uninstall ALL the HP files and reinstall the installation software for my printer.
Here is the software I downloaded for my printer: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=fr&cc=fr&dlc=fr&sw_lang=&product=5063...
I included a picture of the message that I receive after trying to connect my laptop to the printer.
My computer has Windows 7, 64 bits. My printer is HP Photosmart 5510 series.
Any help would be reeeeally appreciated, I really need my computer for university!
    Thanks

    Hey @RafaelleB,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the network issues you're experiencing with your HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-One Printer on your Windows 7 64-bit computer. I understand that the printer has been working fine via wireless for the last year but suddenly just stopped communicating. There is a chance that an update went through on your router that is not causing communication to be blocked between your printer and computer. I'm going to take you through a few troubleshooting steps to start to see if I can get this up and running for you.
    Step 1: Powercycle a Network:
    1. First, unplug the power cable to your Router
    2. Once your Router is unplugged, turn off your printer
    3. Next, shut down your computer
    4. After 30 seconds to 1 minutes, plug your Router back in
    5. Next, turn on your printer
    6. Turn on the computer
After a few moments the internet connection should be restored to your computer. Check your computer and ensure that you can browse to websites before continuing.
    Step 2: Check IP Address:
    1. On the printer select the Wireless icon () and an IP Address should display
    2. Take note of the IP address
    3. Open the Internet Browser on your computer
    4. In the Internet Browser web address search bar please type in your IP Address and hit enter (do not include www.)
If this brings you to a website for your printer than that proves with 100% certainty that your printer and computer are communicating wirelessly with each other.
If the website for your printer fails to open than your printer and computer are not 'talking' wirelessly to each other. Should this be the case can I have you rerun the wireless setup for your printer:
How to Run the Wireless Setup Wizard:
On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon (), and then touch Settings.
Touch Wireless Setup Wizard. The wizard searches for and displays a list of available networks.
Touch the name of your network, and then follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to the network.
Once you run the Wireless Setup Wizard, get the IP Address and see if you can open the printer website with the IP address now.
If so, then please attempt to reinstall your software and drivers and the printer should now be found on your network.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!

  • My new laptop says another computer is using my ip address. How do I stop this?  I was trying to get all of my stuff off my parents desktop IMAC and think I screwed something up with the wifi because now my laptop won't connect to wifi

I bought my own laptop (Macbook Pro) and set it up and am using wifi that my parents use on their computer.  Everything was working great until I wanted to put my itunes from the desktop to my laptop.  I used my Mom's sign on of her apple id and since then when I log on to my laptop it says another computer is using my ip address...what do I do?  Thanks!

    Hey there Toni D.,
I suggest the troubleshooting outlined in this article here:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US
Does the symptom occur with more than one Wi-Fi device?
Wi-Fi issues may be related to the network in question or they may be related to the Wi-Fi computer joining that network. Usually, if other computers or devices (such as the Apple TV or iPhone) are able to get on the Internet without issues, then your Wi-Fi router is probably fine.
If you only have one Wi-Fi device, proceed with this article.
Make sure your software is up-to-date.
Install all software updates available for your Mac.
If you use a third-party Wi-Fi router, check with the manufacturer to confirm that it has the latest firmware installed. If an update is available, follow the manufacturer's instructions for updating the firmware.
To determine if your Apple Wi-Fi base station firmware is up-to-date, see Updating your software.
    Check your connections.
Some networking issues may be caused by loose or disconnected cables. Verify that all Ethernet and power cables connected between your modem and your Wi-Fi router are correct. Checking that devices such as your router and modem are on, disconnecting and carefully reconnecting Ethernet cables, and/or replacing damaged Ethernet cables may resolve the issue without any further troubleshooting.
Verify that you are using the recommended settings for your device.See Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points.
Restart your network devices.Powering your modem or router off for a few seconds and then on again may resolve network issues without any additional troubleshooting. If you have phone service through your ISP, power cycling your modem may interrupt that service. You may need to contact your ISP in order to restore your phone service if your modem is reset or powered off. Ensure that you have alternative means to contact your ISP (such as a cell phone) to avoid unnecessary delays in restoring your Internet or phone service
And if this does not get the network connection going again I would use the troubleshooting from down the bottom in the section labeled Symptom: My Mac does not connect to the Internet.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Dell laptop won't connect to server.

I know this is an issue for others and I've tried my darndest. Here's the set up. I'm trying to get online with a Dell Laptop. The Dell laptop shows that it is connected to my Airport Express, but when I try to open Internet Explorer, I get the message saying,"not connected to the server." I do not have WEP on. Any ideas?

I solved the problem. For the others out there with the same problem, you need to open Explorer, then go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections and figure out what needs to be changed. You have to change your proxy, etc.

  • Windows laptop won't connect to internet using airport express connection

Hi. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I set up airport express on my imac g5 so I could share the internet with my windows laptop. I have a wireless notecard plugged into my laptop (802.11gg)--the laptop recognizes a wireless network with my imac no problem. I'm able to access the internet with my imac, but my laptop can't. I have a cable modem with the ethernet cable attached to airport express. I set up the wireless network using wep. Am I missing something? Please help! Thanks!

I had a similar issue this morning. My problem was my password. Apple will allow short passwords with wep encryption. Other manufacturer's don't.
    "The multiplatform issue
Being an older protocol, WEP password treatment was not implemented uniformly by all wireless hardware and operating system manufacturers. Some products require users to enter relatively cryptic hexadecimal characters (four bits each), while others allow "plain language" password entry. A plain language password, like "apple", uses standard ASCII characters that are 8 bits each.
Products that allow plain language (ASCII) password entry may not force the network administrator to create 5- or 13-character passwords that would result in the required 40 (5*8) and 104 (13*8) bit-length passwords. Instead, they use a "hashing" routine to convert an odd-length password to the correct bit length. The multiplatform issue arises when the hashing results of products from two different manufacturers don't match each other. The resulting "network equivalent passwords," which are always given in hexadecimal format, are different."
In my case I made the password 13 characters long and everything works fine now.

  • My laptop won't connect to the Internet wirelessly or LAN.

I'm running Windows 8. After running an optimization, I can't connect to the Internet. Other devices working fine so it isn't the modem. I have uninstalled the virus software to check firewall issues. Please help!

    Hi ccrodeffer,
    Welcome to Sony Community!
That's sad to hear. Are you getting an error message? Do you see any "x" sign on the wifi/internet  signal? What has change other than running the optimization?
Can you provide us the exact model name and the current operating system of your unit so we can check the specifications and provide an accurate solutions. Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wifi router

My laptop won't connect to my wifi at home when I go into my room. The wireless router is on the other end of the house and I know you'll probably say it's out of range, but i've been in the same room for 2 years and i've never had problem connecting it until up to a couple of weeks ago. Nothing has changed in the set up of the house, it just randomly stopped connecting. Can anyone suggest what may be wrong??
    Thanks.

It could be that one of your neighbors has added a router that's basically overpowering yours. Try logging into the router and changing the wireless channel.

  • Internet won't connect on iPod touch?

At the beginning of the week my internet stopped working, someone fixed it for me yesterday and it works fine the the computer but i can't get the wifi to work.
It still pops up on my ipod same as always called linksys, it will give me three bars but tell me its not connected to the internet if i try to visit a website.
Oldly enough it will let the google homepage load and thats it. I have tried to reset my network settings, restart the router, renew lease but nothing works.
One other thing i can mention is that when i restarted my computer and logged in a box popped up called dial up and asked me to connect to the internet.
Also my wifi is not locked and doesn't require a password, and my sisters laptop won't connect to the internet either.

    Some background might help:
    - What make/model router are you using?
    - Does your router have the latest firmware? (Check the manufacturer's support web page)
    - What security type are you using? (None, WEP, WPA, WPA2)
    - Does your router use DHCP?
    - Have you tried powering off and restarting the router?
If you are connected to the router but can't access the internet then the possibility exists that the DHCP service in your router is not giving you a local network IP address.
To check on this go to:
    *Settings > WiFi >* +your network name+
and press the ">" to the right to bring up the connection details.
Report all that you see. If the IP address starts with 169 then the router is not giving a local network IP address and you will not be able to access the internet.

  • My iPod Touch won't connect to my laptop

I've had my iPod touch for a year and it won't connect to my laptop for about 3 to 4 months now. I think its the new generation? iOS 8. I've done everything almost. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it and I made sure my laptop had all of its stuff done except for the Window 8.1 update which it won't update and on my ipod it keeps saying to back up iCloud and that hasn't been backed up for 8 weeks or something like that. I don't know how to back it up btw. I don't know if it's my iPod because when I buy songs on my iPod it's on iTunes on my laptop for me to press the cloud icon. Please help me! I don't know what else to do and I'm too scared to reset my iPod. I'm gonna go to Apple store soon and ask them but I don't know if they can help with that so someone please comment back on this.

What do you mean it won't let you?  What exactly does it say? (Sorry to sound so exasperated but this is like the 6th post in a row where people have made vague statements which do little to help us find solutions without a game of 20 questions.)  I'm going to guess and say you can only deauthorize a computer to which you have physical access or VPN login.  The alternative is to deauthorize all which you can only do once a year.
