  • WRT54GS won't connect to internet

I've turned WEP security on and off with no success. My computer can connect to Road Runner when the cable is not going through the WRT54GS. The connection is excellent on all my devices, just no internet. I'm thinking there's one tiny setting I'm not thinking of enabling but I'm out of ideas at the moment. If you need more info from me let me know. Thanks...

  • WRT54GS - Show no connection in My Network Page even if online

Why dose my WRT54GS show no connection to the internet on the My Network Page but I am on the internet ?

If i am correct, i guess you are talking about the Network Map that we got to see after we connects our Win VISTA/7 computer to internet directly or via Router....
If that is the case, i guess resetting your router back to factory defaults and reconfiguraing the same using the required settings should sort this out....Try using:

  • WRT54GS V7 loses connection

My WRT54GS loses its connection periodically, requiring a reboot to get it functioning. Further, it reliably locks up while I play Starcraft 2, booting me from the game due to a connection timeout with clockwork regularity. In these cases, the router will eventually come back online on its own, but does so faster if I reboot it.
The router has the newest firmware. What could be the problem? How can I test to determine the issue?
    Thank you!

Have you changed the settings on your router as i have mentioned in the earlier post?
Since there is no change, you can try to download the firmware from the linksys website and update your router.

  • Wrt54gs loses internet connection when using P2P Ares

I have a wrt54gs v5 and I've installed the latest firmware and reset back to factory then reconfigured.  Whenever Ares is started all other computers (wired or wireless) lose their inet connection.  Within 2-5 minutes of stopping Ares everything starts working again. I've checked Ares and it's set to am max of 10 connections.
I've hooked up my old befsx41 and it works fine but I need the wireless.  Both of these are talking to a befcmu10 cable modem.  I've never had problems with linksys before but from what I'm seeing on the forums the wrt54xxx doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the oldser stuff. Anyone know of any specific versions that fix this?
(Mod Note: Edited for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

Since your BEF works with P2P, why don't you simply convert your WRT into a WAP (wireless access point).  This way you will use the wireless of the WRT, while using the BEF to handle all the routing chores.
To do this, setup the BEF as your primary router.
Then wire one computer to port 1 (not the Internet port) on the WRT.  (Note:  Disconnect everything else from the WRT at this time.)
Then in the WRT do the following:
    Turn off the DHCP server.
Set the "Local IP address" to 192.168.1.2  (assuming no other device on your network is using this fixed LAN IP address, and assuming the BEF is set to use the 192.168.1.x  address space.)
Save your settings.  Power down the WRT.
Next, connect any numbered port on the WRT to any numbered port on the BEF.  Do not connect anything to the Internet port on the WRT.
The BEF will control your router settings (DHCP server, port forwarding, etc.)
The WRT will control your wireless settings.
Please let me know whether this setup allows your P2P to work properly.

  • WRT54GS WIreless not connected, yet connected

My WRT54GS wireless connections wont go through, as it clearly says, Not Connected, yet my network connections will show that I am connected to the internet and indeed, I can browse the web. My biggest problem with this is that eventually (around 10 minutes or so) it will disconnect from the internet, which is a problem since i play online games. Anyone ever had this happen?

under the network connections , what all connections do you see....ensure that any other connection except for the wireless network connection is disabled..
the only medium of connection should be the wireless network connection... check this and let me know if more help need on this issue ...

  • WRT54G v6 - Can Connect to wireless network but can't access internet

Ok, this is my last resort for help. I spent two hours yesterday with linksys "chat" support to no avail.
    First the techincal details:
OS for all machines = Windows XP
Laptop w/two adapters - one wired, one wireless
    WRT54G v6 upgraded with 1.00.9 firmware
    SpeedStream modem from DSL provider
I have manually set the IP, subnet mask, gateway, primary and secondary DNS for my wireless adapter (using the Alternate Configuration in the Internet Protocol Properties of the Wireless Network Connection). When I connect to the wireless network I see that the IP, subnet, gateway and DNS server IPs are all correct (via ipconfig /all).  I see that I am connected to my SSID (11.0 MBps, signal strength Excellent) however I can't access web sites (the server not found message appears in the browser) nor can I ping the router IP or any other IP (LAN or WAN).
My wired PC works fine with this router. My laptop works fine with this router when wired.
Anyone face a similar situation and have a solution?  Thanks.

    A new discovery...
When I disable the wireless security on the router, I am able to connect to the wireless network, ping the router and access the internet.  So, there is apparently something wrong with the WEP security (although I am able to connect to the wireless network when WEP is enabled).
I am thouroughly confused. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..
Message Edited by jmaxey0122 on 12-16-2009 05:27 AM

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • WRT54G V8 - no connection - All Lights on SOLID all of a sudden

My WRT54G has worked fine for the last few months but all of a sudden our laptop lost its internet connection. When I went to look at the router it had 5 solid lights, 1,2,3,4 and internet. It doesn't matter what cables are plugged in, those light will always be on. even if it is just the power it is only those lights, and the power light seems to be on but it is dim, definitely not even 1/2 as bright as the others. The lights are on solid, not blinking, and are on from the second I put the power cable in. This happened all of a sudden, I was not doing anything out of the ordinary. I can't find any solution for it. I have reset it (pushing the reset button for 30 seconds) and it is the same situation. When I type in 192.168.1.1 in my browser - "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.1." ; so my computer cannot even communicate with the router. I am at a loss on what to do. I have a wired router that I am using now that is working just fine. Does anyone have any ideas what happened here? Thanks!

When all the light are on, there's something wrong with the router. Reset it for 30 seconds. If there's no change, unplug/replug the power cord and reset it again. If you have the same results and your router is less than a year old, call them for a replacement.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • WRT54GS won't connect (oddly enough, it gets info correctly)

Here's a strange situation:  I have a three-year-old WRT54GS that was re-flashed to the latest Linksys firmware due to issues with DD-WRT; however, no clients (wired OR wireless) can connect to the Internet via this router. It gets the settings from the cable modem (Motorola SB-5120 with Comcast HSI as the provider), and the clients can connect to the router itself (and see the router) without issues; however, the router's clients have no Internet connectivity.
Have I managed to *semi-brick* the router?
There are two PCs - one wired (Vista) and one wireless (XP with SP3); both have the same issues, wired or wireless.  (I've even tried swapping the wireless NIC (USB) to the Vista PC; no such luck that way.  Also, connecting the XP laptop via a wired connection via the router is fruitless.)
I'll be making one last attempt to re-flash via DD-WRT before giving up as a bad bet; however, I will be following this thread, as I don't want to have to buy another router because I managed to brick this one in an odd fashion.

UPDATE: Re-flashing with DD-WRT (V.24 vice V.24SP1) fixed the problem (the router is now allowing connections via both wired and wireless); however, I have two other (unrelated) issues (both wireless):
    1.  There are other wireless devices/EMI devices (specifically, both a pair of 2.4 GHz coreless phones and a microwave oven) in the room where the laptop is usually used (yes; it's usually used in the kitchen!), therefore finding a solid wireless channel is a priority.  Lower channels (the router is set currently to use channel 2) have less of an issue with the phones; however, router connectivity is an issue.  Higher channels (11 or 12) have better router connectivity, but they tend to drop connection whenever the phone is answered (not good at all).  Channel 6 is a popular channel for wireless devices in the area (therefore, it's usually one to avoid, even when all the networks are secured with WPA or better, as is mine).
    2.  While both wireless USB adapter and router (with DD-WRT) both support WPA2; they will not connect reliably with it (WPA, however, works fine).  The wireless laptop is running XP with SP3; is there a specific patch to let XP use WPA2?

  • WRT54GS won't connect my static IP computer to internet

My goal is to get completely connected to a torrent site. Their instructions were to configure a static address for my computer, forward a port and life will be good.
My current setup is my computer is wired to a WRT54GS which in turn is wired to an Actiontec GT701-WG DSL modem. There is one other computer wired to the Linksys and a third computer connected wireless.
I tried connecting my computer directly to the Actiontec and I was completely connected which increased my up load speed about 4X (20-25 kB/s to over 100) when seeding. Downside was it left the other two computers without a connection as there is only one out port on the modem.
It seems the Linksys is choaking my connection. I found some great tutorials on this site; I followed one and went in the computer and made its address static by assigning it an address outside the dynamic range used by the Linksys. The tutorial ended with SAVE and EXIT. I did and then I couldn't connect to the internet. I did the power on procedure of the modem, Linksys, and computer three times and nothing improved. I had to switch back to an automatic address for the computer in order to connect again.
Is there something I should have done to the Linksys after I made my computer static? If the computer is outside the range assigned by the router how can it see the computer?
I've been working on this for at least six hours with zero success. I would really appreciate it if someone would tell me how to get connected. Maybe there is another tutorial I could work through, just point me. Thanks.
    Dirk

Well in such case the only option i can suggest is that to check the firmware on the router .... If it seems older download it from linksys website .... see if it works ...

  • WRT54G v6 Unstable connection

    Hello!
If you need any other information than I will be providing, please feel free to request it.
As noted, I'm using a WRT54G v6 router that is connected to 3 PC's. Two of the PCs are wireless, one is directly connected to the router. I am using the official firmware provided by Cisco on the router, version 1.02.6. As some of you may know the v6 is amongst the 'neutered' family of routers.
I have tried nearly everything to get this fixed. I have wlan optimizer activated, I have switched out my cables, I have changed all my channels, I have set a specific name for my network, switched to G only and back, have a password on the network. My security is set as WPA Personal, TKIP.
This is a screenshot of my connection using PingPlotter
As you can see it is all over the place. I get similar results with tracerts, with some in the 1000+ms. I have tried absolutely everything and the cable company (Time Warner/Road Runner) says it is my router. Please, please, please help me.
EDIT: I would also like to note that unplugging, then plugging back in fixes the issue temporarily. Then the connection starts to warble and quickly gets out of control.

You know at this point you could try out a 3rd party firmware here.
See if that fixes the problem, If it does not fix it is just as easy to go back to your last firmware.
    GoodLuck

  • Wrt54g, no wired connection, vista? update goblin?

Hi, I have linksys router WRT54G version 6.....its wired into my desktop and i have a wireless link to my laptop, and even though I got a new computer with windows vista home premiun a week ago, its been working fine for that week......until today, nov 14, when windows did an automatic update and install and automatically restarted my computer. since then the router doesn't work for my wired connection to my desktop, it links up with the network but not the internet....i havent' checked my laptop yet, probably the same.....I disconnected from my router and hooked directly into my modem to scour the internet for help...its all a blur but i did a hard reset on my router, thinking , i'll just reset it from scratch....my installation disk asks me for a password at the last second for some reason, don't remember that the first time, don't know what it could be either, i tried admin and left if blank, nothing, just kept restarting the installation. can't get to http://192.168.1.1/. either...... any ideas? thanks

Connect the computer to the router using Ethernet cable ..... check the LAN IP ...... if getting any valid Ip in the range of 192.168.1.1 ....try to ping the gateway address
If geting any reply try opening set up page of rotuer .....
If you are not getting any valid Ip .....do power cycle for 1 minute ....then once again check the Ip ....
If still it is showing invalid Ip ...... unplug the modem from router ...leave the computer connected to router  & reset the rotuer for 20-30 seconds ......
While holding the reset unplug the power cable ...wait for 10 seconds ...plug back the power cable & release the reset ....
Now once again check if getting any valid LAN ip address .....

  • WRT54G dropping wireless connection on laptop

My laptop (WinXp SP2) is frequently loosing it's wireless connection to my WRT54G router.  It seems to happen on a random basis.  Sometimes, I'll boot the laptop and I'll have my connection, sometimes I won't have it.  When I have the connection, I may loose it for no apparent reason.  It may happens even when my laptop is near the router.  There's no wireless phone close.  Microwave is not working. I'm in an appartment so it might be a wireless channel problem.  I have yet to try that.
I have the lastest firmware upgrade (8.00.2).  I have activated WPA2 security and MAC filtering.  I'm using aes for WPA entryption method.  Naturally, I have downloaded the microsoft patch for WPA2 on the portable. I have tried to change the MTU size to 1498 instead of 1500 to see if anything would change. From my tests, the default value was right on anyway.  I have tried without WPA2 security (just MAC filtering) and I still got the same problem.
I also have a Wii which is connected wirelessly to my router who experience the same problems.  My desktop computer is wired connected to my router and never has any problem.  So it's really just a wireless problem.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
    Thanks

try to change the wireless channel, you could choose from 1-6-11 i suggest 11...and try to check the advnced wireless settings set the beacon interval=50 fragmantation threshold=2304 and RTS threshold=2304
with the mac filtering that you have make sure that the MAC addres of your wireless computer is properly saved there...

  • WRT54G v7 losing connection

I have a WRT54G which is used as a wireless access point, so the WAN port is connected to the real DSL gateway, a SpeaadTouch 546.
I tested this configuration with a WRT54G v2 before ordering a new one.
Now, the new one is loosing connection with the speedtouch after approx. 2 minutes. When I save the configuration of the WRT54G (without changing anything) the connection is restored for the next couple of minutes.
I do not have that problem with the other one.
I recently loaded the latest firmware 7.00.1 but that didn't solve it.
Does anyone has a clue how this can be the case?
    Thanks.

Hi , if you look at the setup page...you should have an option called keep alive....enable that....also enter the MTU manually ,Keep the value 1492…
