WSUS Multiple clients, same name...different IP Addresses

I am deploying WSUS 3.0 SP2 into a lab environment.  I have 6 duplicate networks.  Duplicate up to the IP address that is.  They all use the same names for their systems, by the IP's are different.  For example, their are six differnt
machines named "Client 1", but they all have 6 DIFFERENT IP addresses.  In my WSUS console, I can get the machines to show up, but it looks like the machines with the same name are being seen as the same device despite the different IP addresses.
Is there a work around for this?

but it looks like the machines with the same name are being seen as the same device despite the different IP addresses.
Is there a work around for this?
Since you have six entries for 'Client1' it would not likely be a SusClientID issue. The machine name and IP Address are attributes of the SusClientID (a GUID). If you have six visible entries for 'Client1', then you have six unique SusClientIDs for those
systems.
Your real issue is the reuse of the hostname. You need to have UNIQUE machine names within a single enterprise network if you want to use WSUS.
Are these "6 duplicate networks" all WORKGROUP-based environments, or are you using Active Directory in each network?
If they're all workgroup-based networks, then you're going to have to change the machine names.
If you're using Active Directory, then it may be as simple as (which really ain't all that simple) -- changing the Domain Name of each network so each 'Client1'  is in a different domain, and thus has a different FQDN (e.g. client1.domaina.local, client1.domainb.local,
etc.)
You might also be able to achieve this just through DNS services even if they're still a workgroup. Configure the DNS suffix for each network via the DHCP Server, so that each network uses a different DNS suffix, which will be reported to the WSUS server
and uniquely identify each machine by FQDN.

  • Multiple-client, same server, different configurations

    Hi experts,
Recently we have got a project of IS-U Electricity where it has been planned that the same server we used for the last project will be used for this upcoming project where the configurations are diffrent from each other but both of them will run together in same development, quality and production servers.
My question is whether we would be able to configure sap as per the requirements for the upcoming project to a particular client whereas the rest of the clients will use old configurations for the existing project in the same server. Will there be any cross-client configuration conflicts?
    - Arghya

    Arghya:
The answer to this question is unrelated the industry solution.  Multiple client scenarios are used in many solutions.  Some configuration is client dependent and so would be different in each client; other configuration is client independent and would be used in all clients.  That would be part of the analysis to determine if multiple clients or multiple systems is the correct approach.
    regards,
    bill.

  • Migrate WSUS server from 2003x86 to 2008x64, new hardware, use same name and IP address?

Searching through the WSUS forums and reading the TechNET migration documentation, I have bits and pieces of information to make this a smooth transition...I think. I have a plan in mind but
would like the communities input on what I am thinking before moving forward and having it blowup in my face :). <o:p></o:p>
    I have the following currently:<o:p></o:p>
A single WSUS 3.0 SP2 server, running on Server Win2003x86, using the default WID (susdb.mdf) on the same server. I have SQL 2005 Express installed on this server as well for other services
but this has no bearing on the WID correct?<o:p></o:p>
What I would like to do:<o:p></o:p>
I have a new server (a much better one) that I would like to move WSUS on to, that will be running Server Win2008x64 (I have to setup first). <o:p></o:p>
Steps that I would like to follow:<o:p></o:p>
    1. I will go through and setup this new server with all M$ updates etc... under a new name (ex. wsusnew) and DHCP acquired IP address and then power it down. <o:p></o:p>
    2. Get on my current WSUS server and backup all current WSUS settings, groups, DB etc... to a network location for temporary storage. Then power it down.<o:p></o:p>
    3. Delete the current WSUS server computer object in AD, DNS entry I will leave because my intension is to give the same IP address to the new WSUS server.<o:p></o:p>
    4. Start the new server, static assign the IP address from the old WSUS server to this new server and then change the name of (wsusnew) to the old servers name, which should be ok sense I deleted
the AD object in step 3.<o:p></o:p>
    5. After the obvious restart, the new server will have the same name and IP address as the old server. <o:p></o:p>
    6. Now that the new server is up (with same settings name/IP as old server), I will then go through and install the WSUS role on the server and restore my WSUS information.<o:p></o:p>
    Questions:<o:p></o:p>
    1. Step 2 above, is it possible to do this, without making replica servers? I kept reading about this as I was researching doing this, I would rather just copy the DB and folders and simply
put them in-place on the new server.<o:p></o:p>
    2. Step 6 above, restoring of the data, what is the proper way to do this in the scenarioI described? <o:p></o:p>
Thank you to anyone who can provide me some information.
    Jeff

Thank you for the reply, I will follow and let you know. Proabably be next week sometime before I'm able to try though. So look for a reponse then. Thank you again.
    Jeff
    OR...
You can use the much more simple, much more reliable, and much more proven method of:
Install new server as a replica of the old.
    Replicate.
Configure new server as upstream server.
    Point clients to new server.
Turn off old server after all clients have redirected to the new server.
For everybody that has tried the backup/restore the database procedure described above, they have encounted complications of one form or another.
WSUS has a built-in and fully supported comprehensive replication capbility. use it! :-)

  • Moving files with same name, different extension (automator?)

I'm trying to find a way to move a large number of files in multiple directories (all at once or directory-by-directory, doesn't matter) if they have the same name but different extensions. For example, let's say I have a photo directory with the following files:
    Photo1.jpg
    Photo1.raw
    Photo2.raw
    Photo3.jpg
    Photo3.raw
I would like to move the raw files "Photo1.raw" and "Photo3.raw" while leaving "Photo2.raw" in it's current location (as a sign that it doesn't have a JPG counterpart. I'm assuming this can be done using Automator. Can anyone offer some help? Also, it IS likely that the vast majority of files will have a common prefix (similar to "photo" in the above), if that's something that can be used.
    Thanks in advance.

Anyone have an idea on how to accomplish this?

  • Use two VIs with the same name, different functionality on a single Project

Hi, I'm working with vision builder al labview, I need to integrate the vision builder migration Vis into my main program, (Is not an option), but I have multiple Vis autogenerated with the same name, how can i integrate them in the same project without dependency problems
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Unless you really need tight integration between the Vision code and the rest of your LabVIEW application, or would rather not have to pay for a Vision Builder AI runtime license on the targets on which you want to deploy your final application, I would recommend you look into using the Vision Builder AI LabVIEW API instead of migrating the inspection to LabVIEW.
The API allows to control Vision Builder AI by launching a Vision Builder AI engine, running the inspection and retrieving resulting images and results.
The advantage of the API is that it allows for easier modification and debugging of the Vision Inspection that you designed in Vision Builder, if you need to make changes later. (i.e. all you need to do is open the inspection in Vision Builder AI, modify parameters, add steps etc).
You won't have to change your LabVIEW application, unless you want to output additional results.
When you build and deploy your application, you will need to install Vision Builder AI on the target machine and get a runtime license for it.
Migrating the inspection to LabVIEW is a one way deal. If you need to make changes to the inspection, you will have to migrate the inspection again, or modify the code outside of the Vision Builder AI environment.
As you might have noticed, the code generated is quite complex, and it is recommended to go this route only if you need really tight integration/synchronization between the vision code and the rest or your LabVIEW code, or if you would rather pay for a cheaper Vision runtime license rather than a VBAI runtime license for the deployment machine (in case of deploying multiple systems where cost is a big consideration).
Vision Builder AI API examples are located in this folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Vision Builder AI\API Examples\LabVIEW Examples
Hope this helps clarify the use cases and help you make the right decision for your design.
    Best regards,
    Christophe

  • Can't import RAW and psd file with same name different extension

Trying to import a folder of images from desktop that I have been working with in Bridge CS3.
LR won't import a RAW file that has a PSD file by the same name. Tried renaming the PSD and deleting the one with the same name, but says it is still there and won't import the RAW file - What is the correct workaround on this? Why can't it import same name files with different extensions?

A forum search for 'RAW + JPEG' will give you more posts on this than you care to read. This will change. For now, import the RAW and PSD's from separate folders and then move them together for within LR.
LR is seeing the RAW as a sidecar to the PSD. It is an unforseen effect of the RAW + JPEG thing where they decided to not import the JPEG, seeing it as basically a preview image for the RAW.

  • Same SSID different MAC address

Ok... This is the best place for me to post this I think...
I am sharing an internet connection and am relatively close to the router (linksys) but because of the materials my building is constructed with I get a **** poor connection. So, there is a closer range extender that I can connect to, the range extender is also a linksys range extender, and I have no problems when I connect to it. The only problem is actually getting connected to it in the first place. My computer will automatically connect to the router rather than the base station. They both have the same SSID, and obviously different MAC addresses. Is there a way to force my computer to only connect to the range extender and ignore the signal from the router?

I have no problems with the range extender itself. It works great. The problem is that my airport card cannot tell the difference between the range extender and the router. Sometimes it will connect to the router, and sometimes to the range extender. I want to force it to connect to a specific MAC address rather than using only the SSID. Is there a way to do this?

  • How to get client machine name and IP address

    Hi,
In my office I have one SERVER which has FORMS & Report Server installed and all the clients are accessing that application thru the following URL :
    http://OraServer:8889/forms/frmservlet
to get the machine name I have read into a global variable like this
    SELECT USERENV('TERMINAL' ) into :global.clientname FROM DUAL;
but obviously all the time its returning the SERVER machine name...not the name where client is accessing the program....so how can I get the client machine name..
    thanks

    Hi Frank,
Well I am using Developer Suite 10g Release (10.1.2.0.2) ..I've gone thru the link what you have sent me and noticed that whatever updations of conf file or classpath its already there so i guess needn't to modify cause I think my release 10.1.2.0.2 has did already as webutils been bundled with it.
Well What i did is to double click on ATTACH LIBRARY and browse the location to find webutil.pll and finally attached it...even though its showing me all the procedures like clientinfo and others...
on my block's canvas I've put a button and used this trigger to get client info function like this.
    when-button-pressed trigger of INFOBUTTON
    DECLARE
    o_clientinfo varchar2(50) := Webutil_clientinfo.GET_HOST_NAME ;
    begin
    message(o_clientinfo);
    end;
but when I am trying to open this form its simply not showing up..strange thing is that there is no error as well...so plz kindly guide me how to get clientinfo hostname or ipaddress using that library function.
    thanks

  • Multiple users with same name, different domains

I'm setting up a mail server for the first time . I've got everything working fine, but I have a question. Can I have the following: [email protected] and [email protected] be two separate accounts? Currently it goes to the same mailbox.

Yes you can. You will need to set the 2 domains up as virtual mail domains.

  • Multiple clients, same sys id

I have a situation where I would like several SAP clients with the same system IDs (on different hosts) to address the same AD service (on a single java host). The problem of course that is the connection FP_ICF_DATA_<SID> can only address one client. Is it possible to use proxy settings in the RFC connection on the SAP client in this situation? any other ideas?

    Amit,
Thanks for your reply. Perhaps my problem is not clear.  I have 5 different 'T02' SAP ECC systems (I use the word 'client' here in the context of client/server, not the SAP client sense).  Each one is on a different host server, say hpriap23, hpriap24, hpriap25 etc. I have 1 java system on a different host (say hpriap55).  In the ICF destination in NWA of the java system I have FP_ICF_DATA_T02 (there can only be 1) and it refers back to a host/port for the ADS client - for example http://hpriap23:8023.
I don't see how the ICF destination can be used for the SAP T02 system on hpriap24 (for example) ?
Perhaps you can explain your circumstances.
    Thanks,
    Guy

  • SCCM 2012 -two machines with same name

    Hi,
In SCCM 2012, when I do a search for a computer, the results bring up two machines with the same name and mac address.
Why is the machines in SCCM 2012 twice?
    How do I resolve it?
    Thanks,
    hm087ster

You should have one machine mark as obsolete.
A record that is marked obsolete typically was superseded by a newer record for the same client. The newer record becomes the client's
current record, and the older record becomes obsolete.

  • First 2012 R2 server in 2008 domain (same name and IP)

    Hi all,
Think I know the answer to this but wanted to double-check. I'm installing a Windows 2012 R2 server. It is our first 2012 server in our 2008 R2 environment. It will also be our first 2012 DC. It will be replacing an old 2008 R2 DC and will have the same
name and IP as the old 2008 server. I have several other DCs in place and they handle DHCP and DNS. The DHCP server service is not currently running on the old 2008 server to be decommissioned, and the DNS settings in DHCP server/scope options point to other
servers than the server to be shut down.
Plan is to demote the old 2008 R2 server, wait 24 hours for directory replication and check that all instances of the old server is gone from AD, then rename the old server and assign different IP address. At that point I'll assign the 2012 server the old
server's original IP address and name, then run Server Manager to promote the 2012 server to a DC. Then migrate data.
So, when running DCPROMO to demote the old 2008 server, I'm asked if I want to delete the DNS delegations pointing to this server. Should I? I tend to think I should NOT because the new 2012 server will have the same name and IP as the old one, and that
the DHCP/DNS settings as configured point to other servers anyway. Does that make sense?
    Thanks in advance,
