WSUS updates file location is empty

We were using GFI and moved to WSUS-  I just setup a WSUS server-  setup computer groups in WSUS- setup GPO's- Most servers and computers have checked in- I have also approved updates- When I look in the WSUSContent folder I see many directories
but there are no updates in the directories-
Any ideas?

Content file download failed. Reason: The server does not support the necessary
HTTP protocol. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) requires that the
server support the Range protocol header.
So the fix is to upgrade and/or properly configure your firewall to support this 12-year-old HTTP protocol specification.
I made the modification to SQL to ignore bits and now it is working
This should be (and is) considered to be a *temporary* workaround to facilitate implementing a proper solution. No doubt the problem is your firewall, and that's where the permanent fix should be made.
By running BITS in foreground mode, you create two significant impacts:
The ability to saturate your Internet link with WSUS downloads.
Loss of special features of BITS with respect to download resumption and other capabilities.

  • WSUS Update Files Store will not change setting

    Hello,
I have a Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine with the WSUS role on it.  It is going to work in conjunction with our SCCM 2012 SUP to handle Windows Updates.
When we go to WSUS Role -> Update Services -> Options -> Update Files and Languages and change the setting from "Store update files locally on this server" to "Do not store update files locally. . ."  the server acts like
it's going to change the setting.  When we check on it after a few minutes it tells us that the server is changing setting and therefore we can't alter anymore settings.
When we come back about an hour later the settings are back to the original settings.
We've tried with a Domain Admin account and local admin Account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Thanks,
    T_Albus

If the WSUS role hasn't approved any updates then ConfigMgr SUP won't have an accurate database to cross-reference to see if the computer is compliant or not for a particular update, correct?
That is incorrect. Client update compliance is performed against the entire catalog which the WSUS instance downloads and makes available to the clients and the SUP synchs to ConfigMgr. Clients scan for compliance against *all* updates in the catalog. Approving
(or declining) updates in WSUS should not be done when WSUS is integrated with ConfigMgr. In fact, as mentioned, no administration of WSUS should ever be done directly in the WSUS console when integrated with ConfigMgr.
Also, clients do not (by default) report compliance to WSUS when using ConfigMgr -- there is no need to do so as WSUS, as mentioned, simply exists for the download and distribution of the update catalog (and EULAs) and nothing more. All update activity is
controlled, monitored, and managed directly within ConfigMgr with no involvement from WSUS.

  • SCCM 2012 CU3 / WSUS - Update files are being deleted

We have been running this configuration since April of last year and haven't had any problems.
The problem is a majority of the window/security updates files in the WSUSContent folder are missing.  I have ran wsusutil /reset and it takes a day or so but it will successfully download the 80GB of missing files.  But after a few days they are
once again missing.  We do run our EPP updates through WSUS and we have no problems with those.
I have searched endlessly through the log files, I can see where it goes through and skips them due to being superseded.
Do not see any database or communication issues between SCCM and WSUS, per the wsyncmgr.log it sees the thousands of that are available from our WSUS server.
So, any suggestions as to what might be causing the update files to be deleted from the WSUSContent folder?
    We are running this on:
    Server 2012 / SCCM 2012 CU3 / WSUS for 2012

So, just to make sure I understand.  Is that we should be deploying updates from the SCCM Configmgr?
If you want to use the integrate experience, then yes.
but the problem is that a majority of updates are showing Downloaded = No when looking under All Software Updates
You need to either manually initiate the download of updates or set up an Automatic Deployment Rule (ADR). Either will cause ConfigMgr to download the updates placing them into an update package (which in turn gets placed on a DP where the clients can access
    and download the updates).
wsynclog shows the sync of the update catalog, i.e., the metadata, and not the actual update binaries.

  • Where are iOS update files located on my Mac in Lion?

Since Lion I can't seem to find the iOS update files on my Mac.  Which leads to my next question can I delete the latest update 4.3.5 and redownload it for a restore?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Thank you!  I did not know where to find the migrated files either.  I had lots of user folders to look through but finally found the one with my Pc data in it.  Dragging it to the desktop enabled me to access my files and drag them into my Mac Folders.

  • Where are the update files located?

Hi. We have five Macs around here: two Tigers, two Panthers, and a Jaguar. It's a royal pain to have to download the update files individually for each machine. Can somebody tell me where the update files are stored, so we can save time and bandwidth on updates by copying and/or running the updates from one machine to another?

Seems you never use SU to download, before.
It took me a little while to decide whether to be offended by this or not...
I take it you mean that SU, had I downloaded to disk without installing, would have created the directory in question, but since I had not used this option the directory has not yet been created so it was not there.
Thank you for the tip. I am, even as we speak, downloading the appropriate update files to my Jaguar machine's desktop (the interface is a bit different, but I now know what to look for heh heh). For future updates I shall do the same.
    Many thanks...:)

  • Where are the software update files located?

Because I get charged for my download traffic (don't ask--one of the drawbacks of living in the country), I set my software update preference to download the latest 10.5.4 update. That way I can then transfer the update file to our other computers. However, I can't find where Apple sticks the file.
    Thanks,

    Hello John,
That ability to "Install and keep package" in Software Update, doesn't work.
It use to be an extremely useful thing, but now no longer works in Leopard. Instead you will have to download the Update from the Apple site and then you will be able to keep it, and only use Software Update to tell you want you need.
In 10.3, not sure about 10.4 I could collect all packages, which I would then burn onto a CD. But alas, no more.

  • Software Update - file location?

Just curious as to where Software Update stores all of the local files. Just set it up and want to know where to keep an eye on for large files. I found what I think may be it in /library/caches/..... but all the folders say 0 KB, so not sure if thats really it

Anyway to move the download folder to another local drive?
One solution: Do you think I could make the html folder an alias to the local drive I want to store all of the apple downloads?

When I download firefox, using recommended setting, or my own, all the sub files/folders like plugins, modules, updater end up on the desktop as well as in the file location. And when I try to put them into the file location, they don't. And when I delete them, FireFox won't open. I tried deleting FireFox and reinstalling it multiple times, and a message pops up sometimes that says FireFox may not have installed correctly, so I follow the steps, but all the extra icons on my desktop don't go away. This has happened every time I have downloaded FireFox. The browser itself works, but I need to know how to get rid of these icons, but still be able to use FireFox. I'm not using Proxy server and this is the only WSUS server in our environment and update source is to sync from Microsoft Update site.

    Hi,
This is most likely a problem with a proxy server or firewall. Since you don’t have a proxy server, then firewall could be the culprit.
Error message when you try to download a file by using the Background Intelligent Transfer Service: "Content file download failed"
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922330
Make sure your firewall support HTTP 1.1 range requests. If it still doesn’t help, try the following workaround:
If you are unable resolve this issue from the proxy/firewall side, then try these steps as a workaround on the WSUS server,
Set BitsDownloadPriorityForeground=1 using osql.exe on WSUS SQL instance.
    net stop WSUSservice
    CD "%ProgramFiles%\Update Services\tools\osql"
    osql.exe -S <SQL instance name> -E -b -n -Q "USE SUSDB update tbConfigurationC set BitsDownloadPriorityForeground=1"
    net start WSUSservice

  • OS Update File's Containing Folder Location

Hello: I want to delete a partial download of Mavericks 10.9.2 OS update (downloaded via Software Update >App Store). Where is this partial file kept ? Thank-you. MLR

Hello: I completed a manual update 'OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo)'.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Then I went to my 'main Menu >Apple Icon >Software Update >App Store >check for updates'. This software update found, I now already have 'OS X Mavericks 10.9.2' installed, so it removed my previously cancelled update (from it's list). Then I remembered, 'Computer >Library >Updates (folder)'. I do not see the partial 'OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update' file, there. I assume it was automatically deleted during one of my previous procedures. I will not mark this post as resolved incase someone can offer additional information (just for education). I am assuming my situation is actually resolved. Thank-you, MLR

  • Not able to change file locations

I have a few video's I need to put online.
    So I made a flash-file that will load a file externaly (http://.../locus.f4v). When I publish that flash file it renders a locus.swf, locus.index and a SkinOverAllNoFullNoCaption.swf (skin).
When I upload everything works fine. But to easily manage all of my video's I can't have them lying arround and would like them in a folder. So I create a folder locusvideos. I change all the links in the html-file to locusvideos/... .swf but it just shows an empty page.
so where are all the files at?
locus.html (is in the most top folder)
    /locusvideos/locus.swf
    /locusvideos/SkinOverAllNoFullNoCaption.swf
and the video-file is still on the same place
    Is there something I'm missing?
    kind regards,
         Jeroen

yes, but everything worksfine  untill I want to change the locations of the files eventhough I update the location in the html document.
I'm looking for someone who perhaps can explain how everything links/works together en can help me how to relocate the files without problems.

    Eternal Snow

Nothing to me indicated that his previous disks weren't functional.
In the very first two lines of the first post of this thread, the drive was described as "heavily loaded". Specifically the scenario was:
If WSUS installed on a heavy IO loaded harddrive (LUN) of a VM
Running the Server Cleanup Wizard, particularly performing the "Delete unneeded updates..." action is a highly database intensive action. If that task is competing for IOPS on the disk system, then there's absolutely a high probability that the task
will "timeout" before the stored proc being called can complete it's task.
The "fix" is to put the application on a properly equipped machine.
If the guys who wrote the system can't create it to not fall over if the HDs it's on happen to be a wee bit slow, then yes it's a bug and they've written it badly.
We're not talking about "a wee bit slow", though, are we?
As for timeout issues, it's a natural artifact of a WSUS server these days. Read every tenth thread in this forum and somebody is having issues with timeout errors.
There are two contributing factors. The first is that the number of updates currently contained in the MU catalog is about 100x the number of updates that existed when WSUS v3 was originally written in 2007.
The second is that in 95% of the cases, the administrator reporting the issue failed to properly performed needed administrative and maintenance activities on the WSUS server over the lifespan of the server.

  • WSUS Updates to Available and Required collections - multiple deployment packages?

Hi, I'm trying to follow various documents but cannot find a single unified methodology for how WSUS updates are now supposed to work
I am creating software update Groups and trying to keep them under 1000 updates each as they take 2 hours or so.
So i have a Pre2103, All2013, 2014January to May, 2014 June to September and starting from this month i will do one monthly
My Client base is servers or workstations. I have 2 collections - Available (DCs SQl etc that need manual intervention) and Required (everything else)
So i now create a deployment package for each group - but now i have to do that twice? Once for available collection and once for required collection? Am i missing an easier/better way of doing this?
Once these have all been set up do i then have to deploy them with an ADR? Inject them into the Gold image of my workstations?
I would like the internal WSUS to work exactly like (or as near as can be) to the way microsoft's works. EG if i take a vanilla windows 7 or 8 build and connect it to my network, it gets the GPO, installs the client then goes to SCCM and gets alll the updates
to bring itself up to date without me having to then go back into SCCM and create a specifc deployment of job or to manually send out anything.
Or will this only work when the collection gets updated and is aware of the new computer?
    Thanks

OK i'm doing this now. As in the initial message i posted, everything up til 14th October is
done and dusted. I have 4x Software Update groups. Pre2013, All2013,2014JantoMay and
    2104JunetoSept
For each of these groups, i created a Folder under the root All Software Updates", filtered
my searches and moved each grou of updates into its own folder for neatness, as well as a
    "Superseded and Expired" folder
To deploy each of these i HAD to create a deployment package for each. Only done "Required"
so far so i have 4 Deployment packages.
So, now i am going to step through what i think i need to do to set up updates released on or
    after 14/10/2014
I have no software update group or deployment package for October's releases and no ADRs at
    all.
Just a list of 232 updates in All Software Updates. I deleted expired and superseded etc.
In this view, there are 64 Assets total. 7 unknown!!? What does this even mean? How do i find
out which are unknown? In the all device list, they are either clients or not. Nothing says
    unknown!! Anyway thats for later...
    I have 2x collections. WSUS-Available (x23) and WSUS-Required (x41)
None of the 232 updates are downloaded and theres a mixture of required not required and
    percent compliant. .
I have a workstation on the domain and have run a windows update (updates managed by my
system administrator) and it says Up to date - and it takes ages.
If i change this to "Check fromo Microsoft" i get 42 important updates and 34 optional
updates available. This is my target scenario to hit from SCCM WSUS
    OK here goes.
I select all 232 updates and move them to a folder called 2014October
i go to Automatic Deployment Rules and Create a new one called WSUS2014Oct-Required
    select Patch Tuesday Template
    Collection is WSUS-Required
create a new software update group
    Auto Deploy
Released last 2 weeks - every update classification
Run on a schedule - every second tuesday
    Client local time
1hour / as soon as possible
    default/default/default
now i need to create a new deployment package. Call it WSUS2014Oct
Point it at sources and a folder called 2104October
Now i choose Download software updates from a location on my network and select the local
    drive "E:\WSUS\WSUSContent" folder
So now i have a "Required" ADR and i click Run Now
BUT now i need to do one for the Available group as well. I notice that during the ADR i
    cannot select Required or Available.
So i guess i need to suppress reboots on Servers then?
Also if i am using the same deployment package, why do i need to reselct the download
location again? its the same updates
Also, now that i have 2x ADRs the first one i created creates the deployment package and the
second ADR now points to that deployment package too so i now dont have separate packages to
    monitor
Also, after running them both i get errors and no software update groups are created. So im
guessing thats the problem as the error is 0x80070002 the file you specificed could not be
    found
also get error on the available group saying Auto Deployment Rule download failed
This is ridiculous. Why does creating an ADR allow creation of a SUG if it doesnt work.
    Very frustrated

  • About Apple software update file directory

i want to know where did the Apple Software Update put the update file and data? im using windows 7. i want to delete them as it is no longer use after installed. i just want to make sure they dont grow and grow and eat my hard disk space.

    Hi Bill!
I have done this very thing with SUS due to an internal SD drive that lacks capacity.  in the SUS service in server admin, under Settings, Store Updates In prompt:
What I did is set up the directory structure I wanted (I kept the original structure, var/db/swupd/), I then checked the permissions on the directories and made sure they were set the same, then copied all the data over.  If you leave the directory empty, I believe all the updates will re-download.  This was the easiest service to change data stores for me.  I also did the same for wiki services, and depending on the updates (nothing significant in a while) I would sometimes have to go in and re-correct permissions on the new larger volume.
So you answered your own question on what the restrictions are: size of data/storage location, and permissions.
