Wt is the use of Attribute's ColumnType SQLType entries in Programmatic VO?

Hi all,
I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0
I want to get some clarifications on whether ColumnType and SQLType entries are required for Programmatic VO or not?
What i tested?
I created a client interface method, which creates a new view criteria for VO (EffBgnDt should be less than or equal to current date) and apply it. I also added a console output to know how the clause for cache is framed. In VO xml, since we are able to edit the ColumnType and SQLType of attribute, i changed those for Date attribute and applied the VC and here i've given details below on how the class for cache got generated for various SQLTYPE.
    public void applyVc()
        final String _CRITERIA_ = "TestCriteria";
        Date currentDt = new Date("2011-05-23");
        if (this.getViewCriteria(_CRITERIA_) != null)
            this.getViewCriteriaManager().removeViewCriteria(_CRITERIA_);
        ViewCriteria vc = this.createViewCriteria();
        vc.setName(_CRITERIA_);
        vc.setCriteriaMode(ViewCriteria.CRITERIA_MODE_CACHE);
        ViewCriteriaRow vcRow1 = vc.createViewCriteriaRow();
        ViewCriteriaItem row1BgnDtItem = vcRow1.ensureCriteriaItem("EffBgnDt");
        row1BgnDtItem.setOperator(JboCompOper.OPER_LE);
        row1BgnDtItem.setValue(currentDt);
        row1BgnDtItem.setIsBindVarValue(false);
        vc.insertRow(vcRow1);
        System.err.println("Clause For Cache: " + this.getViewCriteriaManager().buildViewCriteriaClauses(vc).getClauseForCache());
        this.applyViewCriteria(vc);
        this.executeQuery();
    }1. with ColumnType="DATE" , SQLType="DATE", filter criteria is working
Clause For Cache:  ( (TO_CHAR( EffBgnDt, 'yyyy-mm-dd') <= '2011-05-23' ) ) 2. with ColumnType="VARCHAR2", SQLType="VARCHAR", filter criteria is working
Clause For Cache:  ( (EffBgnDt <= '2011-05-23' ) ) 3. with ColumnType="BIGINT", SQLType="NUMERIC", getting stackoverflow exception.
Clause For Cache:  ( (EffBgnDt <= 2011-05-23 ) )

Question:
1. There is no consistency in generation of ViewAttributes entry. For example, while creating new Date attribute, if you browse and select oracle.jbo.domain.date type, xml entries of ViewAttribute will be generated with ColumnType="BIGINT" SQLType="NUMERIC". But, instead of browse button, if you select the attribute type from the Type dropdown itself, entries will be like ColumnType="VARCHAR2" and SQLType="VARCHAR". Why this inconsistency in generation of entries?
2. Though the view object is programmatic, does the ColumnType and SQLType entry somehow related/needed with/for filter criteria? I could understand from the clause for cache that based on SQLType only, it got generated)
[NOTE: I came acorss this issue while testing. In the view object creation wizard, adding a new attribute with oracle.jbo.domain.data type, and attempt to click on the Next button leads to Null pointer exception. Details are given below]

The oracle.jbo.domain.Date class accepts dates and times in the same format accepted by java.sql.TimeStamp (either a long milliseconds time value or the year, month, day, hour, minute, second, nano format) and java.sql.Date (either a milliseconds time value or the year, month, day format).

  • What is the use of Return indicator in Service entry sheets

    Hi,
    I would like to know the use of Return Indicator ?, and When actually we can use this. Please advise.
    Thanks
    Udaya

    Hi
    The Return Active indicator enables you to specify that a return is possible when time sheets are converted into external services (i.e. incorporated in service entry sheets).
    If you have selected the activation indicator for the return, you can retrospectively change a time or quantity in a time sheet that you have already incorporated in a service entry sheet. As soon as you convert this changed time sheet into external services, the system generates generates both a service entry sheet with the new data and a return document cancelling the original data. The system sets the Return Indicator in this document.
    Where you can use this Indicator
    In a time sheet for which you have already created a service entry sheet you subsequently change a specified time or quantity and reconvert the time sheet into an entry sheet for externally performed services. The system then creates both an entry sheet with the new data and an entry sheet in which the original data is cancelled and the returns indicator is selected.
    The return indicator cannot be selected manually, but is set only by the system after the conversion of a changed time sheet into external services.
    To facilitate the return of time sheets during the service entry process, you must select the relevant Activation Indicator in Customizing for External Services Management.
    Source Determination and Default Values -> Specify for Client -> Returns Active.

  • CSCui57775 - ISE 1.2 Cannot use some of the Radius Dictionary attributes

    ISE 1.2 as it's currently shipping does not allow the use of the Radius->IETF dictionary for test attributes.
    One of the things this broke was the ability to sort wireless locations by VLAN and SSID - in other words the ability to determine which AP group a session came from.  We set up some tests in our POC to use the SSID from Called-Station-ID and the VLAN tag from Tunnel-Private-Group-ID to determine the AP group.  We haven't found a good replacement even with TAC looking for one.
    Does anyone have a way of determing the AP group besides building tables of access points?

    Hi,
    Forgot to write in this thread, I did a reboot of both ISE servers and after that it works as it should.
    Not the best solution but it worked.
    Might be something with the AD connection that hang, dont realy know. But I have seen wired errors between ISE and AD before.

  • What is the use of version attribute in jnlp tag??

    Hello,
    I want to know what is the use of version attribute in jnlp tag.
    For ex:
    <jnlp spec="6.0+" codebase="$$codebase" href="$$name" version="1.1">
    </jnlp>
    In the spec it explains:
    In the Jnlp tag:
    version = The version of the application being launched, as well as the version of the JNLP file itself.
    1. Is this version attribute would work as version attribute in jar tag. Ex: <jar href="application.jar" version="1.1"/> ?
    i.e. can we specify different jnlp's with the same name as we do for jar's with the help of version.xml.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Reddy,
    If one Info Object depends on another info object we will make that dependent info object as a compounding attribute of main Info object.
    Eg: Storage Location – Plant
    In above eg there is no meaning of Storage Location without Plant. So, we will make storage location as compounding attribute of Plant.

  • What's the use for "name" attribute?

    Almost every object has a "name" attribute and "display name" attribute, e.g. page, tab, template.
    What is the exact use of the name attribute. For my understanding, one of its use to is contruct a URL for the object. For example, when I want to add one item to a page, the shows me the path to the page is:
    PAGE / HELLO_PAGE_GROUP / HELLO_PAGE / TAB37465 / TAB37469 /
    TAB37465 is the name of the tab attribute. I realized this and went to change the name of the tab to a more meaningful value. However, when I try to add the item, the page Path did not change. Is this a oracle internal bug?
    I have similar problem with navigation page. I published a navigation page as portlet. I changed the name of the navigation page and use the name as the portlet name, the new name of the portlet can not be reflected in the portlet repository.

    Jerry,
    1. I tried to add an item to the page within the tab. On the "add item" page, it shows me the path to the current page. Ok, Let's forget about "item", and just talk about the path to a tabbed page. The path/URL never changes, even after I change the tab "name" attribute.
    2. I am talking about the name of the portlet within portlet repository. Let's see within page group A, I created navigation page with name of "test". I published the page as a portlet. In the portlet repository, I can see a new portlet "test" under "new/A". I changed navigation page name from "test" to be "B", however, the portlet name never changed in the portlet repository. It's always "test".

  • Best way to ensure combinations from the ValidationSet parameter attribute are processed correctly in PowerShell without using multiple IF statements?

    I have an advanced function I have been working on that looks something like this:
    Function Do-Something
    [cmdletbinding()]
    Param
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    [ValidateSet('Yes', 'No', 'Y', 'N', IgnoreCase = $true)]
    [string[]]$Param1,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    [ValidateSet('Yes', 'No', 'Y', 'N', IgnoreCase = $true)]
    [string[]]$Param2,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    [ValidateSet('Yes', 'No', 'Y', 'N', IgnoreCase = $true)]
    [string[]]$Param3
    Begin {}
    Process
    My question is, how do I get the values such as "Yes", "Y", "No", and "N" that's located in the [ValidateSet()] validation attribute processed correctly without having to use multiple "If" and "ElseIf"
    statements.
    For instance, I want to avoid the following, because I know there is a faster and more efficient way (less typing) to do it:
    If ($param1 -match "Yes" -or "Y" -and $param2 -match "Yes" -or "Y" -and $param3 -match "Yes" -or "Y")
    #Do something here
    ElseIf  ($param1 -match "No" -or "N" -and $param2 -match "Yes" -or "Y" -and $param3 -match "Yes" -or "Y")
    #Do something
    I was reading that splatting may help me here, but I am new to the splatting technique and need some help with this one.
    I appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
    Thanks

    Is this what you are trying to ask how to do?  Your posted script is written incorrectly and will not work at all.
    Function Do-Something{
    [cmdletbinding()]

    [ValidateSet('Yes','No','Y','N')]
    [string]$p1,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)]
    [ValidateSet('Yes','No','Y','N')]
    [string]$p2
    Begin{
    Process{
    # parse the strings to booleans
    $p1a=if($p1 -match 'Yes|Y'){$true}else{$false}
    $p2a=if($p2 -match 'Yes|Y'){$true}else{$false}
    if($p1a){Write-Host 'P1 is good' -ForegroundColor green}
    if($p2a){Write-Host 'P2 is good' -ForegroundColor green}
    if($p1a -and $p2a){
    Write-Host 'All conditions met' -ForegroundColor green
    }else{
    Write-Host 'Conditions not met' -ForegroundColor red
    PS C:\scripts> Do-Something Y n
    P1 is good
    Conditions not met
    PS C:\scripts> Do-Something n n
    Conditions not met
    PS C:\scripts> Do-Something y y
    P1 is good
    P2 is good
    All conditions met
    This handles case and creates a tracking Boolean fo reach parameter so you can just build simple logic.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • What is the use of checking Attribute Only in IO?

    Hi,
    Can some one explain what is the use of checking Attribute Only in IO?
    I couldn't find the right answer in the forums.
    Thanks,
    Sam

    'Attributes only ' won't create any Extra Tables.
    If you Create Attributes only, you can't use this IO as Charecterstic or Navigation Attribute to other IO.
    You can only use this As Display Attribute.
    Assume, Customer Phone No. You don't want to provide Navigation with this. As well as you need only Latest Value. You don't want history of Customer Phone Numbers.
    You need to Create Customer Phone no with 'Attributes only' and Assign this to Customer IO. You can't navigate with Phone No in Queries.

    Assign points if it helps.

  • List all of the used attributes

    Hello,
    Is there a way i can get the list all the used attributes from the LDAP server.
    Right now i am getting all of the used attributes with below code and going through each entry to get the attributes.
    NamingEnumeration answer = ctx.search("", "(objectClass=*)", searchControls);Is there any function that i can use to get the list of attributes at once.
    Or a simpler way.
    Thanks

    Hello there,
    I could limit the searchControls result count. But I have to guess a value. My guessed value may not return all the used attributes.
    searchControls.setCountLimit(5);Still I would like to implement it in different way.

  • On the use of VARCHAR2 vs. CHAR

    I'm posting an e-mail thread that has been moving around in my organization, whith guidance from an Oracle representative.
    The basic issue concerns the use of CHAR vs. VARCHAR2 when defining a table in Oracle.
    I would like to get some comments from the community at large.
    1. Business semantics should be represented in every aspect of a database, application, and design as far as I am concerned. Noteably, if the business rule at a corporate entity is clearly stated that when using Oracle the use of CHAR should be limited to those attribute implementations which have the following characteristics; a) The attribute may not be null, b) The attribute must have a character in each of the declared positions.
    2. When the Visual Basic application began writing data to the CHAR columns in your application someone should have had a discussion with the developer to find out why this was happening. If the business semantics changed then the logical implemention of the business semantics should have changed as well. That the two were disconnected is not a problem with the CHAR type, it is a problem with the designer or the developer. The bottom line on this instance is that the column should have been defined as a VARCHAR2 data type since the business semantics no longer complied with the criteria set forth in the previous paragraph.
    3. I think Oracle trys to load as much of the data from a table or index into shared memory, in this case the database block buffers, as it can in order to facilitate query operations. If Oracle has enough memory and can load a table or index into memory, it will do so. At the same time the database engine will move previously cached data out of memory to accommodate the new requirement.
    -----Original Message-----
    Thank you for the detail information on CHAR and VARCHAR2. It got me thinking with a DBA hat. I worked as a DBA before and I did use the CHAR type and I will share my experience/thought on CHAR.
    I don't like to use the char type like Tom has advised because Oracle does not check to see if the value being inserted fills up the column or not which can lead to a problem. And there is no performance gain or save space in Oracle.
    I worked as a DBA before, I used char type on the "must fill/always filled" column (pre DMDC). The application was written in VB with Oracle back end. At some point, VB started inserting values that are short of the column width and created a minor problem (it was supposed to be filled column). The problem was quickly identified and fixed, but it caused an issue.
    I realize that I don’t want to define it as a "must fill/always filled" column if you can't enforce it by simply defining the char data type on a table and prevent possible issue in the future.
    For a manager, in order to use the char properly, you have to hire client developers with Oracle experience or provide a basic Oracle training in order to avoid the problem I mentioned above in order to use the char type correctly.
    I think you, Tom and I are saying the same thing really. Only difference is that Tom and I can not think of a good reason why anyone would like to indicate the business semantics using column type on the database, when it can lead to more work/issues.
    In regards to wasted 25 million byes, why would Oracle load the table with 25 million rows? Shouldn't it use an index? Don't you have a serious problem if Oracle is loading table with the 25 million rows?
    Just my two cents... : )
    -----Original Message-----
    May I beg to differ?
    CHAR plays a vital role in the intuitive interpretation of a database schema. If designed correctly, the use of CHAR tells anyone who is in the know that this is a must fill column. Thus if a column is defined as CHAR(3) everyone should know that the column will always contain three characters. Defining the column as VARCHAR2(3) does not tell you anything about the data other than that the column may contain 0-3 characters.
    Also, If a column is defined as CHAR the column should always be populated. One of the nice features of VARCHAR2 is that if the column is defined at the end of a table, there is no storage overhead until that column is actually populated. Thus if you have a table that has an identifier that is nine characters in length and will always be populated with nine characters, an attribute which describes the type of identifier which is contained in the first column and which must always be populated and is a must fill attribute, and another column which is descriptive and may vary in length or not be populated at time of insert; the following definition does not express the business semantics of the entity:
    COL_CD VARCHAR2(9)
    COL_TYP_TXT VARCHAR2(26)
    COL_TYP_CD VARCHAR2(2)
    The above definition also does not take advantage of inherent storage features of Oracle; notably there is a wasted place holder between COL_CD and COL_TYP_TXT and between COL_TYP_TXT and COL_TYP_CD. The next definition does take advantage of the storage features but does not represent the business semantics of the entity:
    COL_CD VARCHAR2(9)
    COL_TYP_CD VARCHAR2(2)
    COL_TYP_TXT VARCHAR2(26)
    The above definition does not waste space storing a place holder between COL_TYP_CD and COL_TYP_TXT if the COL_TYP_TXT may be null. The column separator will only be used when the column contains data. The below definition satisfies both the storage and business semantics issues:
    COL_CD CHAR(9)
    COL_TYP_CD CHAR(2)
    COL_TYP_TXT VARCHAR2(26)
    This may seem pedantic in nature until you consider the situation where there are 25 million rows in the table represented by the above entity. If each row has a NULL COL_TYP_TXT value then the first example wasted 25 million bytes of storage and 25 million bytes of memory if the full table is loaded into memory. This is an issue which cannot be ignored in high volume databases.
    You may wish to know why it is important to define a must fill/always fill column as a CHAR to express the business semantics of an attribute. I can't give a definitive answer to that other than to say that it is just good database manners.
    So please, continue to use CHAR when the shoe fits. Don't throw something away that has use just because it is not popular or in the mode.
    Also, if I am mistaken in any of the above, please feel free to educate me.
    Thanks.

    Subject: RE: Oracle on the use of VARCHAR2 vs. CHAR
    Ignore if you already got this. This is just FYI.
    -----Original Message-----
    Below is a detailed answer to your VARCHAR2 or CHAR questions from our Database expert Tom Kyte. The short answer is VARCHAR2 is what you want to use. If you have any questions or want to discuss this in more detail let me know.
    A CHAR datatype and VARCHAR2 datatype are stored identically (eg: the word 'WORD' stored in a CHAR(4) and a varchar2(4) consume exactly the same amount of space on disk, both have leading byte counts).
    The difference between a CHAR and a VARCHAR is that a CHAR(n) will ALWAYS be N bytes long, it will be blank padded upon insert to ensure this. A varchar2(n) on the other hand will be 1 to N bytes long, it will NOT be blank padded.
    Using a CHAR on a varying width field can be a pain due to the search semantics of CHAR.
    Consider the following examples:
    ops$tkyte@8i> create table t ( x char(10) ); Table created.
    ops$tkyte@8i> insert into t values ( 'Hello' );
    1 row created.
    ops$tkyte@8i> select * from t where x = 'Hello';
    X
    Hello
    ops$tkyte@8i> variable y varchar2(25)
    ops$tkyte@8i> exec :y := 'Hello'
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    ops$tkyte@8i> select * from t where x = :y; no rows selected
    ops$tkyte@8i> select * from t where x = rpad(:y,10);
    X
    Hello
    Notice how when doing the search with a varchar2 variable (almost every tool in the world uses this type), we have to rpad() it to get a hit.
    If the field is in fact ALWAYS 10 bytes long, using a CHAR will not hurt -- HOWEVER, it will not help either.
    The only time I personally use a CHAR type is for CHAR(1). And that is only because its faster to type char(1) then varchar2(1) -- it offers no advantages.
    If you just use varchar2 everywhere, no problem
    My advice is, has been, will be very loudly stated as:
    IGNORE THE EXISTENCE OF CHAR.
    period. If you never use char, you never compare char to varchar2, problem solved.
    And if you use char and compare a char(n) to a char(m) they will never compare either.
    Just say NO TO CHAR.

  • What is the use of creating a detail object on a measure.

    Hi Experts,
    In BI 4.X business layer, we can create a detail object of a dimension and as well as measure.
    Can you please let me know what could be the use of the detail object of a measure object?
    In the business layer, it is showing like this...
    <Measure object>
    -><Detail Object>
    Dimensions have attributes, we create those attributes as details objects.
    when we want to see the different grains of the measure in one report. we will use these details objects.
    Example:
    1. Query 1 returns country, sales revenue
    2. Query 2 Returns Country,State,Sales revenue.
    But in the report if we want to show the State wise Revenue. It is not possible bcz both the quires are returning different grain.
    state object is incompatible object, so you can't drag the object into report.
    in this scenario we will merge the Country dimension , create the state object as details with merged dimension, then you can drag the state details detail object.
    this will give expected results Country and State wise revenue.
    Normally Dimensions and details objects will drives the measures values in report.
    So, Detail object on measure not helpful in case of relational database(Please correct me if i am wrong). It is useful only for OLAP database because when I have created a webi report on top of BEx query then it is automatically created a detail object on measure object.
    As far I know, 'Measure attribute' introduced for OLAP based business layer. which can provides information for the formatted value like unit, currency or value.
    For example:-
    Amount is key figure in BEx query and when I have created Webi report on top of that then it will create three object.
    1. Amount as meausre.
    ->2. Amount currency(detail).
    ->3. Amount formatted value(detail).
    Below is the output after running the report.
    Amount || Amount currency || Amount formatted value

    I have found one difference, We can't implement the index awareness on detail object which we have created on measure object although we can implement the index awareness on detail object which we have created on top dimension object.
    But Still I am looking for good example of Detail object on measure object..
    Any thought would be welcome...
    Thanks,

  • Crystal didn't show the BEx query Attributes description changes/Values

    We experiencing the BEx query attributes/crystal report  issue.
    I create a crystal report using BW- BEx query. Bex query displays the attributes values. But in crystal report side it didn;t show up the values as well as description changes.
    But If I change the display properties of attributes (different from one attribute to another) the crystal report reflect the values. But crystal report didn't show the Attribute description changes , the one i did it in BEx query side.
    Example:
                         Bex has a Masterdata as well as attribute Field1, Field2 etc.. I changed the description like Field_Test1 and Field_Test2. Also I changed the display property for Field_Test1 is Key and text and long , Field_Test2 is Text & LOng text.
    I  got the attribute values is crystal report Xi R2. But crystal didn't reflect the description changes?
    Suggestions Please?

  • What is the use of access level

    Hi Experts,
    What is the access level and what is use of each option in access level
    1  Application
    2  Superior component
    3. Top Component
    4. Sap
    5. Global
    and in Details section what is the use Properties tab
    1. Application Component
    2. Software Component
    3. Development Package
    4. Settings Class
    Please explain Each option use.
    Thank you in advance,
    Srini M.

    Hi Srini,
    just read the documentation (although the current status on SAP Help Portal isn't really up-to-date):
    1. [Entry point|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/cc/85414842c8470bb19b53038c4b5259/frameset.htm]
    2. [Setting an Access Level|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/32/6aba9c49fd41a5a14f710e121220f1/content.htm]
    W/r to "Application Component" etc., docu on Help Portal is definitely not sufficient. Here, the following applies:
    An application offers attributes for the application component and the software component. The application component and software component have to be the same as defined for the development package. Application and software component are automatically derived from the development package if they are not set explicitly.
    For the definition of the development package, application component, and software component, we recommend that you choose the same values that are in effect for the software solution that you want to enhance by a new BRFplus application. This simplifies all activities related to the software infrastructure, especially transports.

  • What is the use of initial value in a database table?

    Hi can anyone help me in knowing what is the use of initial value which is present besides primary key while creating a table?

    Initial Value:
    Indicator that NOT NULL is forced for this field
    Use
    Select this flag if a field to be inserted in the database is to be filled with initial values. The initial value used depends on the data type of the field.
    Please note that fields in the database for which the this flag is not set can also be filled with initial values.
    When you create a table, all fields of the table can be defined as NOT NULL and filled with an initial value. The same applies when converting the table. Only when new fields are added or inserted, are these filled with initial values. An exception is key fields. These are always filled automatically with initial values.
    Restrictions and notes:
    The initial value cannot be set for fields of data types LCHR, LRAW, and RAW. If the field length is greater than 32, the initial flag cannot be set for fields of data type NUMC.
    If a new field is inserted in the table and the initial flag is set, the complete table is scanned on activation and an UPDATE is made to the new field. This can be very time-consuming.
    If the initial flag is set for an included structure, this means that the attributes from the structure are transferred. That is, exactly those fields which are marked as initial in the definition have this attribute in the table as well.
    hope it helps,
    Saipriya
