WTF? DW Deleted My Testing Server Files!

Just completed a website redesign for my client. He loved it and asked me to recommend a method for moving the site live. Here is what I recommended:
Assign the site that I developed (hosted on my personal website) as a Testing Server.
1. Synchronize with the Testing Server by going Synchronize --> Entire Site -->Get Newer Files from Remote --> Delete Local Files not on Server
2. Then synchronize with the Remote Server by going Synchronize --> Entire SIte --> Put Newer Files to Remore -->Delete Remote Files not on Local Site
Well, I never even got to step 2! For some reason, a slew of files and directories on the Testing server got deleted.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? That the remote files were deleted with the local files should have been? Is method I recommended not an acceptable practice for a website redesign? What methods are more acceptable?
Most importantly, though, I really need someone to explain what the heck happened to these files? Why did Dreamweaver screw up my work so thoroughly? When I get a call in the middle of the night from another client saying that Dreamweaver is mysteriously deleting his website, what can I tell him?

Because my files were not on his local site--they were on my personal website, set up as a subdomain. I was not allowed access to his host. This was the method I recommended for moving my files to his local site. We did not even get to the point where we could synchronize to his remote site because Dreamweaver deleted all my files first.

  • Apache htdocs? Where do I load my testing server files?

I am trying to use my mac as a testing server.
I am using Apache, PHP, MySql.
Where do I store my testing server files?
I does not work in my local user file.
    Example; http://123.10.10.10/~myname/Sites
I tried using my Sites folder but php will not work. I was told to use my Apache htdocs folder by the php folks. Spotlight shows there is no htdocs file.
So do I have to go into the Apache folder and create a new folder called htdocs? Or am I missing something?

  • Browsers won't open some php testing server files

Running DW 8, OS 10.4.10, Apache virtual testing server with
    php local site.
I've Firefox and Safari as primary and secondary browsers.
    When working on a
page, if I select 'preview in primary browser', Firefox opens
    the page with
my virtual url...no problem. Lately, some php files will not
    open. Firefos
give a dialog to open the file in default (DW) or save to
    disk. This is very
frustrating since one file it does this to is a login page.
    Safari does the
    same thing!
I have select the file in question in the finder (extension:
    ,php) and
through the Get Info and told Mac OS to open this file with
    Firefox and all
.php extensions. Rebuilt prebinding so all php files in the
    Finder show a
Firefox icon, but still neither Firefox nor Safari will open
    them. They
    don't recognize the
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
    charset=ISO-8859-1" />
Metatag. The really frustrating thing is that only some files
    behave this
way. Most of the others work fine and I can't see anything in
    the headers
that would cause one to open and not another. Has anyone ever
    run across the
behavior before and if so, what was the cause?
    Thanks,

True, I'm running Apache 1.3, but I'm leery of trying to
    upgrade to a newer
version for fear of messing up everything that already works.
    Had a real
headache getting MySQL 5, PHP 5 and phpMyAdmin all up and
    running with DW 8.
Fortunately I had David Powers book that gave pretty much
    idiot proof
instructions on how to install all this stuff. I'd never been
    able to do it
left to my own devices. Another caveat is that my webhost,
    like most, is
behind the upgrade curve: they run MySQL 4.1 and phpMyAdmin
    2,8 so if I
upgrade too much there may be compatibility issues.
Another oddity, renaming that file from .php to .html
    extension causes it
to open fine in Firefox and Safari. I don't think it's kosher
    to keep it
that way since it does contain DW8's login php scripts.
    Again, there's no
    problem with other .php files.

  • SAP-XI Test Server File path

    Hi all,
I am accessing the SAP-XI test server(Web Server
Provided by SAP). In this I am going to do FILE->IDOC
Scenario. Now which File path  I want to mention in File
Adaptor to place the Source XML file?

    Hi Khaja,
If you are placing ur file in the server itself then u can mention the file path as given below:
    D:/usr/sap/trans/tmp/sender
Here the D: indicates the drive where ur server is installed.
Within the given path sender is a folder created to hold the input file.

  • Automatically updating files on local testing Server

I'm using EasyPHP-5.3.5.0 as a testing server on my local machine (I've use EasyPHP for several years). I set up the Site Definition in DW8 using the testing server root folder (www) as the development area; however, this caused problems when I attempted to upload from within DW to the Remote (production) server.  I then modified the Site Definition to use a local folder. other then the Testing Server folder, for development which solved the upload problem.  Then in the Site Definition I setup the Testing Server using the "PHP MySQL" model with "Local/Network" access. The Testing Server folder was set to "C:\Program Files\EasyPHP-5.3.5.0\" and the "Refresh Testing file list automatically" box was checked.  The URL prefex was set to "http://127.0.0.1:8888/" as defined in the EasyPHP instructions.  My problem is that Dreamweaver is not updating the files on the testing server when I save a file in the development folder. The development folder and the Testing Server reside on the same computer. If I copy and paste a file to the testing server everything works fine.  I would like the testing server files to be automatically updated when I save a file in the development folder which is what the Site Definition seems to indicate should happen.  Any thoughts on what the problem is and how to fix it would be appreciated.

Oh - I see. I think this will be hard to do. You'd need to

  • Lost option to upload related files when using testing server.

I used to get a dialogue box when I was previewing files on my local machine using my localhost testing server setup. It was kind of annoying having to click yes every time. Last week I accidentally clicked the don't show this anymore box and now when I preview a site on my localhost related files and updated files are not uploaded. I have to manually upload the css, php, and any other related files to the testing server's folder.
I tried deleting preferences, re-installing Dreamweaver CS4, and everything else I can think of but I can't get this option back. Is there some way, other than using the same folder for the testing server and the site to avoid this problem?
    Thanks.

  • Css files not updating in localhost (XAMPP test server)

I've got an issue with a web page I'm developing where the .css files that I attach to the pages will not update on my local host.  I can make a copy of the file with a different name and link it to the page.  However, if I name any file a name that I've already used then the CSS reverts to whatever was on the original documents.  This is making my php page testing a pain when I view the page in a browser.  The problem doesn't seem to occur for my other websites, and completely goes away when I select "none" in the testing server options.  I'm using XAMPP to run my localhost testing server.  I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 on a Vista machine.  Any ideas?  If nothing else it would be nice to know how to delete the old files that are stuck in the testing server directory.

Strange thing...  I turned it off and walked away for a few hours.  Upon my return I found the issue resolved.  I blame the shoe elves.  Thanks, you little guys!

  • Windows 8.1 client cannot delete shared server files.

We have one office that has a Windows 8.1 client on the network that cannot delete files in a shared folder on their server.
The folder is a catch all folder for the copier to scan to and contains all the PDF files it creates.  When the one user tries to delete any of the PDF files they get an error saying the file is in use.  We have tested by deleting files from
the server and also from other workstations.
We have rebooted the computer and also tried to resolve it by specifically giving the user full rights to the folder, but the problem remains persistent.

    Hi,
There are several possible reasons for your situation, you might don’t have a permission of this folder, the folder is in use, a corrupted file is in current folder.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/cant-delete-file-folder#1TC=windows-7  (Also applies for Windows 8.1)
First, I suggest to log on the computer with an administrator account to delete the folder and disconnect the network connection if possible, second, Run your computer in safe mode to delete the folder or files, to run computer in safe mode:
Restart your computer, meanwhile press F8 until you see the safe mode screen.
Hit enter at safe mode, log on the system as an administrator.
Find the folder or file you want delete.

  • How to see html code in a php file using CS5.5 without using testing server?

In CS5.5 when I open a page with php extention, DW does not show any html code in design view without me having to set up a testing server. In DW 8 it would open the same files and show me the html in design view. I have no need to test php code, I just need to alter the html. Is there a setting I can change to enable this in CS5.5? Thanks.

Below is the code. I discovered that if I create a new php document not from
a template, then I can see the html elements in design view. If I create a
new page from a template and save it as html, design view still works, but
if I save a new page from template and save it as php, I only see symbols
for php and nothing else in design view.
Thanks for your help on this.

    .header
/* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~
    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements
within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box
model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div
itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total*
width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div
and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for
    your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If
you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward
(for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times,
padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you
should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug
where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element
can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned
class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked
if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your
preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the right instead of the left, simply float
these columns the opposite direction (all right instead of all left) and
they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in
    the HTML source.

  • How do I stop Dreamweaver from updating the Test server copy of a file when I open the local file?

The subject says it all. Every time I open a file, Dreamweaver connects to the testing server and uploads the local file to the test server.
I want to stop this behaviour.  It's annoying!

My testing server is IIS running on my local machine.
The "local" copy of the file is actually on a remote share.  I have the test server copy open in Notepad++.  The two files are identical save for on extra line in the copy on the testing server.  When I open the "local" copy in Dreamweaver, it shows me that some file activity is being done, and then Notepad++ tells me the file has changed and do I want to reload it.  If I do, that extra line vanishes.
When I check the file activity log, it shows that the file activity is complete.
I haven't mentioned the production server because it doesn't seem to be affected, but we do have one.
