X301 missing Lenovo Thinkvantage software after OS re-instal

Hi all,
The saga of the X301 OS re-instal continues :-)
Everything is seemingly operating as a base lap top, however the lap top after the re-install does not contain it's IBM/Lenovo specific software.
Examples:
1. Thinkvantage blue button not functioning
2. Internet connection is done solely through Windows and not the IBM network connection
3. Mouse mat works but the scroll page up and across functionality has been lost
4. Sometimes when typing it shoots the cursor off down the page
I have nothing on the system (hardware) stating that it requires a driver.
Any help or assistance appreciated.
Best Regards
Liam Fassam

  • Reinstalling TouchSmart software after a clean install / upgrade of Windows 7

I have an HP TouchSmart 610-1150xt.  I have no use for much of the preinstalled software, so I would like to perform a clean install of Windows 7.  At the same time, I would like to upgrade the preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate. In addition to all drivers, I would like to reinstall the TouchSmart software.  I have already made system restore disks to recreate the factory state, if needed.
Ideally, I would also like to reclaim the hard disk space currently occupied by the recovery partition.  During the clean install, I would like to create two separate partitions -- one for the OS and applications; a second for only data.
I have performed numerous clean installs of Windows in the past, but have always had access to copies/licenses of all applications to add to the clean OS.  I have downloaded all drivers from the HP website, but cannot find copies of the preloaded software.  While the application manager currently allows reinstallation of preinstalled software, it is not obvious that this option would be available from the recovery disks (or the recovery partition) after a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate.
Are individual copies of preinstalled software available from HP, perhaps on an FTP site?  If so, how can I download these programs?  If individual copies of these applications are not available for download, can they be accessed from the the recovery media or recovery partition after performing a clean install/upgrade of Windows 7?
    Thanks.

  • Missing HD Space even after Erase and Install

Ok, so I own a 2.4GHz MBP, 200GB HD 7,200RPM, 4GB of memory... Penryn model that my brother purchased for the each of us back in about August of last year (2008). So recently my brother upgraded to the Unibody and gave me his MBP so that I can give it to my wife. So now, I have 2 of the same exact MBP's.
So the problem that I'm having is that when I did a Erase and Install on the MBP that was given to me, it didn't have the same amount of HD space as the one I originally had. I only know this, because I recently did an Erase and Install on my original MBP and because I wanted a fresh MBP. When I did the Erase and Install on my original MBP, I noticed that it had about 174GB of HD space left.
Now with the MBP that I just received, I did the same exact Erase and Install to my new MBP and it only has 171.71GB of HD space.
Also, I notice after doing the Erase and Install again on the new MBP. I noticed that when I did the Customize portion it stated that I am going to be need 9.2GB of available space and that I have 185GB of available space. So after I did the Erase and Install, shouldn't it have about 174GB of space like my original MBP. And that's why I know my new MBP is missing HD space.
So my question is that, why am I missing HD space on my new MBP after Erase and Install and what can I do to get it right. Why wouldn't have the two computers have the same specs after Erase and Install has been done exactly the same way? (The only reason I did the Erase and Install on the new MBP is so that I can configure it for my wife with her login and info.)
Sorry for the long read... but here are the cliff notes.
    1. I have 2 MBP that are exactly the same.
    2. I did an Erase and Install on both MBP.
    3. After Erase and Install, one of them has about 3GB less HD space.
If anyone can help me, please let me know. I will post replies here as well.
Otherwise, I will be taking it back to Apple since it's still under warranty.
    Thanks

But my problem is right after the same exact Erase and Install on both, they have different free space.
How could you possibly know this without using the drives? IOW, how & when are you checking the drives' capacity & the used & available space of each?
Again, I've noticed that the HD space specifies that it has 185.99GB of available space after the OS, but once you add certain things, it specifies that it will be using 9.2GB of the available 185.99GB.
What do you mean by "185.99GB of available space after the OS"? What are the "certain things" & what is the "it" that specifies 9.2GB will be used?
If you really mean each drive is showing a *total capacity* of 185.99 GB (before or after installing anything), this is right for a "200 GB" drive. That is because the drive capacity specification is given in decimal based gigabytes but the computer reports capacity in binary based ones. (See paragraph 3 in my post at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9389432&#9389432 or search this forum for the word "gibibyte" for more about that.) This number should not change when something is installed -- it is the total capacity of the drive.
If the "certain thing" that says 9.2 GB (or whatever) is the installer application, be advised that it is telling you +the free space needed for the installation+, which is not that same thing as +the space used by the installed files+ once the process is complete. This is because the installer requires temporary file space to assemble the files it will install, hold the results of pre- & post- installation checks, & so on. This temporary space is eventually freed up once the files are in place. In part because of this, the reported space needed is only an estimate, & is always more than the space used by the installed files. (IOW, if it says 9.2 GB are needed for the installation, you should always see less than this used by the sum of all the files installed.)
Thus, as I have already explained as best as I know how, you need to look not just at the free space of each drive but at the total capacity, the number of files & folders used on each volume, & the partition map if you want to make a meaningful comparison of the two drives. I have already explained how to do this using Disk Utility. If you are not willing to do that but instead rely on what appear to be flawed inferences from other things, I can't help you any more than I already have.

  • Missing InDesign Font Library After New Illustrator Install

All but one of my fonts in InDesign are missing. They were a mix of freely downloaded fonts and ones acquired through the typekit. These fonts went missing from InDesign after I purchased, downloaded, and used a new copy of Illustrator. Why are my fonts missing from InDesign and how can I get them back?

In terms of the TypeKit fonts, all you need to do is make sure the TypeKit synchronization option is turned on in the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application. These fonts are not stored in the same manner as other fonts that you install yourself. You can't find them by searching your system.
In terms of other fonts that you have installed, assuming that they are visible in your system's font directory, whether on Windows or MacOS, they should be visible in Adobe applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Make sure you look in the full list. These applications group fonts by criteria such as Western Latin versus other languages versus symbol / dingbat fonts. Thus, a Hebrew font would appear in a separate group from Helvetica, for example. Likewise, Wingdings would likely appear in a separate group.
There are times (not the font) where Adobe applications do lose synchronization with installed fonts. The method of fixing this, should it occur (you see the font is installed, but the Adobe applications don't see it) is to exit Adobe applications and then search your system and delete all files with a name of the form AdobeFnt##.lst where ## is a 2 digit number. Restart the applications and the fonts should be visible.

  • How Can I Download 'Windows Support Software' after Boot Camp Install of XP?

I successfully ran Boot Camp and installed WinXP SP3 on my son's 2009 MBP, which is currently running OSX 10.6.8. We were prompted to download the Windows support software, and said 'yes', but it would not allow us to download anything.
Is there a website we could download the 'Windows support software' directly from?
As a result--I think this is due to lack of 'Windows support software'--we are unable to connect to our wireless network for internet while on the WinXP partition.
At this point he cannot locate the original disk that came with his MBP. I'm wondering if that original disk would even be appropriate, since his MBP came with 10.5 originally. He is on his 3d hard drive (Applecare!) and they loaded 10.6.8 this last time.
    Thanks,
    Greg

10.5 OEM or retail DVD is the best and maybe only place to get XP 2.x drivers to get you started so you can then update Boot Camp support drivers to 2.2.
Replacement OEM DVD from Apple - call - are probably $10-20.
There were Boot Camp 2.1 and 2.2 direct downloads, just not for the 2.0.x that you need first to get started. Weird method. Posting seems to antathema.
I deleted my old bookmarks but those drivers were found from support page:

  • Enabling ThinkVantage button after clean OS install (X230)

I'm going to install an SSD in the mSATA slot of my X230 and then do a clean install of Windows 7 x64 on it (setting the SSD to bootable and the HDD to not bootable).  I'm concerned that this will render the ThinkVantage button unusable (particularly since that's what happened when I upgraded my X61s from XP to Win7).  If this happens, is there a procedure for restoring its functionality?  Thanks.

Because Windows is supposed to be installed differently on an SSD than on an HDD.  It takes care of itself with a clean install.  With a clone I have to go in and reconfigure it.  I believe it's just activating TRIM and AHCI, but I'm not sure that's all.

  • Reinstall Thinkpad software after upgrade from XP to Windows 7

Hello all, I suspect this is well explored territory but I haven't yet been able to find an answer here.
I have a T60 model 2623-D6U that came with XP Pro. I will be installing a new HDD and Windows 7 Pro. What is the best way to reinstall the ThinkVantage software after a clean Windows 7 Pro installation?
Is it simply a matter of installing the Lenovo system update program and letting it pull in the appropriate drivers and utilities, or is there more to the process of getting the system back to factory installed OS + drivers and utilities?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, it is greatly appreciated.
(HDD + W7 Pro cost $115, and given my relatively low usage of this laptop the upgrade path seems appropriate. If Microsoft hadn't forced the issue, this machine would still be running XP!)

    > Is it simply a matter of installing the Lenovo system update program and letting it pull in the appropriate drivers and utilities
Yes, it is basically that simple.
You don't have to install all of the utilities that System Update proposes. If there are utilities that you never used with XP then you probably won't use them with Win7, so there's no urgent need to install them.
Also there are some utilities that shipped with Lenovo's version of XP that were licensed from third-parties that may not be available for download from Lenovo's website. Fortunately most of those either have free equivalents or their functionality is now integrated in Win7.

    Hi, everyone!

    ThinkPad Power Management Driver version 1.60;
    ThinkPad Modem Adapter version 7.80.8.0;

Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox (32-bit) version 6.0.5514.61.
    I've got a Lenovo T61 with Windows XP SP3.
Also in Device Manager, there are now the two "Other devices" bellow with a yellow question point and a yellow exclamation point by side:
    Bluetooth Hands-free Audio;
    Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver.
Does anyone have any idea what can be done to have these issues solved?
P.S.: when I click Fn+F5 it shows only the Bluetooth Radio.

    Hello and welcome,
I've seen something like this on XP machines after updates a couple of times now - my T61, a friend's T400, and his daughter's T61.  I guess that makes 3
_Maybe_  your situation is the same.
The fix in all 3 cases was to go to device manager and uninstall the wifi driver.  Then scan for hardware changes and let it reinstall the driver.  Something about how Access Connections or some other networking mangement thingy was hooking the drivers I guess.
On both of the friend's machines, the wired networking was also b0rked.  Same fix there.

  • Change OS while maintaining Thinkvantage software

    I have a thinkpad R61 with XP.
So from the looks of it, there are two parts to this whole thinkvantage software:
    1) the stuff that runs in windows - system update, fingerprint, access connections, etc.
    2) the partition with recovery info that you can run by pressing the thinkvantage button during boot, before your OS boots up.
I'd like to switch from xp to vista (yes, i know its crappy, but I have business reasons), but maintain both parts of the thinkvantage technology.
The first part (1) that runs off the OS should be easy, just install the OS, go to the lenovo website and install what i need (or just install system update and let it do the rest).
The second part (2) is what stumps me. I would prefer to do a fresh install (cause upgrades just leave files here and there that take up a bunch of your hard disk space). Is there anyway I could maintain part 2 after the OS change?
It would be even better if I could upgrade the thinkpad recovery partition as well so after the os change, if I ever did a recover from the boot menu it would recover to my new OS (vista) not xp.
    Any help/ideas greatly appreciated,
    Thanks!

Some of the TVT software has different version from XP to Vista, so a clean install is a good way to go.  Install Vista then run TVSU to grab which updates you want.
As for the recovery partition, the only way would be to recover the system using the Vista preload recovery CDs.  But unless your system came with Vista originally and then downgraded to Vista, you don't have a license for Vista so legally, Lenovo can't provide the Vista recovery CDs.  What I would suggest is to use Rescue and Recovery to take a base backup of your system once you get everything installed and working.  That way if something happens you can return to that image as your "factory install" image.

  • Bought an X60 off ebay with no thinkvantage software help???

    Thank you firstly:
As the title says I bought an x60 thinkpad from ebay and they obviously had formatted the hard drive and just put a fresh xp install on. I would like to activate the ThinkVantage feature incase I need to recover the system. I am completely out of my depth here so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hello,
You can begin by downloading ThinkVantage System Update software, which will examine your installation of Microsoft Windows and download any missing device drivers and ThinkVantage software when run.

  • This Version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system (**bleep**)?

I have a 3 week old W510, Windows 7 64-bit, i7 Thinkpad. Over the Chritmas holidays I was able to start exploring the software that came loaded on the machine. One of these was the ThinkVantage Toolbox which I accessed at least 2 or 3 times to explore the programs and what they had to offer. It worked fine and I was able to view the different offerings inside the toolbox.
Two days ago I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools "Update and Drivers" to find updates to the the machine. It found some updates (I'm not sure of each and everyone but they seemed reasonable) and downloaded them all to bring the system up-to-date.
Today I tried to access the Toolbox and was greeted with a License Authentication Failed message box with this message:
"This Version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system".
I assume it was something in the recent updates that did this. I have only installed a couple other photo editing pieces of software since then that I doubt would have any effect on this.
I certainly can do a system restore back to before I did the updates, but I'd rather not since a) the updates for the most part appeared to be needed and were successful, b) I'd rather not have to update those things that have auto-updated (like Norton and Super Anti-Spyware definitions), and c) I'm not sure restoring will help, not to mention re-installing the other pieces of software that successfully installed.
I have been a good doo-bee poster and searched this forum and other web resources and while there is reference made to some solutions for this, I didn't fully understand them so I figured I would ask here for help before trying anything. I do have Lenovo phone support but trying here before calling them.
Thoughts anyone? Should I simply download the latest ThinkVantage Toolbox software and install it? If so, should I uninstall the version I have now?
Looking for any assistance anyone could render.
    Thank you.

    Hi again Jim,
    First of all you're welcome!
I have another suggestion for you, it might successfully help you in updating Toolbox to the current version, but for this I'd suggest that you first create a restore point just in case the advice fails. Once created a restore point, launch ThinkVantage Toolbox, give it a minute to completely load/run quick tests etc, thereafter click the green colored question mark -> check for updates, once it finds the latest version, let it download and install, I'm hopeful you won't run into any issues via this approach.
    Keep us posted.
