X58 Pro Won't See 4GB Memory Module

I have the X58 Pro with i7 965, run Win 7 64 bits, most of my appl. are video editing and rendering. it worked fine with 2GB module (Corsair) but I just bought 6 pieces of 4GB DDR3 (Micron technology). Slapped in => no boot. have tried zapped with all latest BIOS up to 8.6 (8.7 is worst). I must remove at least 1 4GB module and replace a 2Gb then CPU will boot but bios report total number of RAM = total number of 2Gg module but ignores all the 4Gb pieces, so Window took this number as total system memory.. Funny part is: MSI overclock tool reads a 4Gb module and thought it's 2 Gb (meanwhile CPUID recognized these 4Gb module). My guess is max 24Gb memory for X58 pro just a marketing gimmick from MSI since they though no one will buy this board and put 24 Gb memory in it. Month ago I've tried mix with 8 and 2 Gb pieces, it won't boot at all.
I post here to see if anyone have an idea of what's going on with this main board and 4Gb module.  For other just don't go out and pay a fortune for 4Gb then get very disappoint result.

Well, the problem with that guess is, that it ignores the fact that the memory controller is actually part of the Core i7 processor and has therefore not directly anything to do with the board or the chipset.  So basically, if you suspect a marketing gimmick, you should probably canalize such guesses directly to Intel and their processor specifications.
OK, furthermore:
The resolution of your screenshot is not high enough to be able to really read most of the numbers.  Please make a better one.

Well, mixing different memory modules is not a good idea in the first place.  It causes problems on many system configurations and should be avoided at all costs. It also doesn't help to get to the root of your actual problem:

What happens if you use only one or two of your 4GB modules?
Can you provide a link to the product site for your memory sticks and/or tell us the exact model number?
What BIOS Settings were you working with (Base Clock Speed, Memory Multiplier, DRAM Voltage, timings)?
There are numerous explanations for your problems that need to be checked systematically in order to get to the root of the problems.  The most crucial points are:
- Are all memory slots working properly and if not, is that because one or more are broken or because there is some sort of short circuit issue that can be avoided if the board is taken out of the case and tested on a non-conducting surface?
- Are all memory modules working properly?
- Is this a CMOS mess that could be solved by a CMOS Clear? >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
- Is the a CPU issue (faulty memory controller)?
- Is the CPU (or its contact pads) in proper contact with the pins of the board's socket?  In case you happen to have a FOXCONN Socket, please check the CPU's contact pads for imprints of the socket pins.

  • X58 PRO won't boot (memory or video card issue???)

    Hi all,
this is my first message here.
I have recently bought a X58 PRO motherboard to which I have connected the following devices: one HD, one DVD, the CPU (i7 950), one Video Card (GeForce 6600 pci-express) and three DDR3 modules from Corsair (named CMT6GX3M3A2000C8). According to Corsair website the modules CMT6GX3M3A2000C8 run on thie X58 PRO.
I have turned on the system, but the screen remains black and the motherboard issues an intermittent buzz sound.
    Besides:
The led close to the pci-express (where the video card is connected) is on.
The 5 CPU leds are all turned on.
The led close to the memory socket is off.
As far as I know, usually the intermittent buzz means that the motherboard doesn't recognize either the RAM or the video card, but I don't know if the buzz is different case by case (can be buzz be different according to the issue?) and in the manual I didn't find a troubleshotting chapter.
Is there a way which allow me to better identify where the issue would be (in memory or in Video Card... or something else)?
I have not tested neither the memory nor the video card on another system, thus I don't know if one of them is faulty.
    Can anyone please help me?
    many thanks in advance!
    Lorenzo

    Do a CMOS clear>>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Only insert one mem module. Check all your power connections to the board/s again that they are secure. You may want to reseat your CPU and check carefully that all the contact pads on the CPU do have imprints.
Ok, I'll try it this evening!
In the meanwhile, I thank you.

  • X58 Pro Won't post unless CMOS cleared.

    Hi Guys!
I recently assembled a new system, with the following components:
    MSI X58 Pro
    i7 950
    2x Strontium DDR3 4GB 1333MHz [SRT4G86U1-H9M]
    ASUS EN8600GT 512MB
    Sunpro ATX-550W PSU
When I attempt to boot, the system powers up, all fans, optical & HDDs run for about 10 seconds before turning off then restarting and doing the same thing 5 seconds later. There is no there is no display, no system beeps, the keyboard lights don't flash etc. However, the system will post and boot fine if I hold the CMOS Clear button down while I press the power button, which means the the CMOS must be cleared every time the system is booted, which is very irritating. I've breadboarded the motherboard, it does the exact same thing when on a piece of cardboard with any combination of hardware, including from bare CPU, one stick of RAM, graphics card and keyboard. I've swapped the PSU with a lower capacity one (it's all I had) and the same things happens. The system performs fine once booted. I have rum memtest86 for a couple of hours without error and flashed to the latest BIOS but it has had no affect.
Has anybody experienced/solved a similar problem? I'll try using different RAM or graphics when I can borrow them off a friend but at the moment I'm all out of ideas :/ This is doing my head in!
Sorry for a massive first post, any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: I should also mention, the system restarts fine without requiring a CMOS clearing, however when it's turned off and left for more than 10 seconds, it requires clearing of the CMOS.

    Quote
Changing the DRAM voltage (Including to 1.5V) results in the system shutting down when you save and exit the BIOS but not instantly powering back on like normal, it won't restart until the CMOS is reset.
In that case, leave the voltage setting as it is and only make sure that the memory clock speed is manually set to DDR3-1066 [again, use one memory module only for testing].

If there really is only one +12V rail with an amperage limit of only 17A, then you should immediately stop using your system with that PSU installed (regardless of whether or not the PSU is the direct cause for your problem).  An quality 550W PSU can deliver at least 35-40A on the +12V circuit.  The mere fact that your device is limited to 17A on this most important rail (=12V x 17A = 205W only!) either means that your PSU is very, very old or that your PSU is an el-cheapo device of questionable quality.  You should get rid of it and get something decent.

  • X58 pro won't boot sometimes

I've got the X58 Pro Motherboard- the original one.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130221
Rest of the system specs are as follows:
    Core I7 CPU
    ATI 5770 video card
    Antect 750 watt power supply
6 GB ram (I forget the brand)
    2 WD hard drives
From time to time it will not boot. The On/off button on the motherboard is lit, so I know it's getting power. But there's another light on the motherboard that is off when it won't boot- an orange light- presumably the network connection? If I jiggle the power connection to the motherboard, eventually it lights up and the computer will boot. I know the issue isn't the power supply because I've used two, with the same issues.
I thought it might be a short circuit from the case. But a friend more knowledgeable than I suggested that it might be the motherboard power save feature putting it into sleep mode or something. He said a BIOS update would fix it.
I have the 7.3 BIOS version, which I understand is the latest one for this mobo. I hear that people have used the 8.0 and later for other MSI X58 boards with this board with success.
So I have two questions for the gurus here
    1) What is causing the computer to not boot?
    2) Will a BIOS update fix it, and if so, should I attempt it?
Any helpful advice would be...helpful. Thanks in advance.

Install both Memory sticks and it won't boot, doesn't past post.
Install 1 Memory stick, it boots, works great. It doesn't matter which stick is in the slot closest to the Processor, they both work great.
We have replaced the Motherboard and the Memory. We have upgraded the PSU to a 600W. The only time we have problems is when the Memory is in the slot furthest away from Processor.
We tried this with and without the video card in, same problem.

Followed your instructions to a "T". I now have Bios version E7680IMS.V17.6  I shut the computer down, unplugged without the battery for 2 hours. Cleared the CMOS....STILL HAVING SAME ISSUE!!!! It won't boot and sends me into an infinite loop with both memory modules in both slots.
I am so close to sending the Motherboard, Video Card back for full refund!!! and never buy MSI again!!! This seems to be a recurring theme all over the internet regarding MSI, and yet I can't seem to find a solution.

  • Mac Book Pro won't see my iTunes Library on an external drive

I have a brand new Mac Book Pro and my iTunes Library is on an external drive.  My computer won't see this Library even if I change the location under Preferences.  All I can see are my purchases from the iTunes Store on my iCloud.  I don't want to clutter up my MBP with my iTunes Library so what should I do?
I'm running Yosemite and latest iTunes
    Thanks for any help
    Les

Really a library, or just media?  A library is a complete collection of files an folders including the critical iTunes Library.itl file, generally all enclosed in an "iTunes" folder.  You do not direct iTunes to open a library with preferences, you do it by holding down the option/alt key while starting iTunes and guiding it to the .itl file you wish it to use.

  • Macbook Pro won't see CD as boot option

I have tried using two different OS install disks but the computer won't see the disks as a startup option. I have tried booting by pressing the option key after the tone and the C key. I have gone in through system prefs to choose the CD to boot from but it doen'st show up there. The disks do show up on my desktop and I can open the folder etc... Also, I can use the drive for watching movies and stuff. I have no idea why this won't work and it's honestly driving me up the wall.
The OS is 10.6.8 and I have tried the install disk for OSX Tiger and OSX Mountain Lion (I think). One is black and one is gray if that helps.
The orginal problem is resetting my admin password because I cannot figure out what I put in originally. Please be clear, I did not steal this Mac. I just don't remember what I put in and my hint makes no sense.
I have called Apple support but they want 50 bucks to talk to me and I can't see paying that. Honestly the request itself ****** me off.
I don't know what else to include but there you go....help?

    Why not?
Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html

  • Won't see new memory

I've got a new 8-core. Just installed a 2 gig memory kit from Crucial and the machine is not seeing it. The slots(DIMM3) that I put them in is showing as "empty". Crucial sent cards with this info on the static packet: 1GB 240 PIN 128Mx72 DDrs PC2-5300 Fully Buffered. Are these the right ones and if so, why won't it recognize it?

You install pairs on the same Riser, not 'across' both Risers.
When buying from Crucial, use their memory selector.
    Make sure fully seated.
You should have something like this when it arrived.
    Riser A: 512MB 512MB
    riser B: empty
What I would do now is ut 2 x 1GB in Riser B slots 1 and 2, or on top in 3 and 4.
You would be to put it in "B" empty Riser and put that in the top slot, and move the 2 x 512MB to bottom.
    Ideal: to have 2 x 1GB on both Risers for 4GB plus 2 x 512MB in slots 3 & 4 on top Riser.

  • [T410] discrete gfx - Problem with Video Card and Windows Aero -anyone using 4Gb memory modules?

    [3/3/2010 Update]
There's a issue of using 4Gb sticks on T410 currently that results in video output artifacts and aero interface problems when using Lenovo supplied drivers v8.16.11.8825. I think I can call it confirmed (Three people including me face this issue).
Possible workaround is to install modified EliteBook 8440p video driver (read along this thread) comes with a BIG drawback of not being able to change brightness level within Windows 7. To sweeten it a little bit - you can set luminance level at POST screen, when computer boots up.
    [Original Message]
Encountered strange behavoir of my T410.
I have a T410 with 256Mb of Video Memory and 1440x900 display, a T61 with 128Mb of Video Memory and 1400x1050 dsplay and external monitor HP w2338h with 1920x1080 resolution.
If I connect external monitor to my T410 and launch Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 - image blinks and comes back with Aero disabled. Looking through event logs reveals the lack of memory. Entry information can be found further.
Now If I do the same with my old Thinkpad T61, connect the same monitor using the same cable - I can open as many Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 instances I like (tried 5) and nothing blinks and Aero stays enabled.
Actually I find ridiculous, a notebook with more VRAM cannot archive the same performance as notebooks with less.
Does anyone know what path should I pursue to solve this issue?
UPDATE: Simply running multiple instances of Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 without external monitor causes Aero disabled as well.

  • Mac Pro won't see FW400 devices!

I recently purchased my Mac Pro, brand new. I knew it wouldn't come with any FW400 connections, but all indications pointed to there being no trouble whatsoever if I just got my hands on a FW800 to FW400 adapter.
The main device I want for use with this adapter is my audio I/O box, the M-Audio FW410. It's old, but it has always worked with my previous mac (1.67Ghz G4 Powerbook) and never gave me any problems.
I had this cable from before:
    http://www.radtech.us/Products/ProCableFW400800.aspx
It worked well, in the past, but not when I tried it with the audio box. Since it is so short, I opted to get another adapter when I saw it wasn't working so that I could use my longer, nicer FW400 cable. I bought this adapter to that end:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JH3TW8
    The same problem persists.
I've tried my other FW400 peripherals, and the computer can't see them with either cable setup in any of the ports. What the ****?
Is there something about this FW bus that doesn't work with these peripherals? Someone please tell me there's a chance I'm just "doing it wrong..."

Glad to hear further verification that this should be working. Seeing as apple sells the Moshi cable at their store,
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW748LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
then you would think that there wouldn't be any problems.
Let me add some further info. The FW410 audio I/O box will start up, but then the power light flashes, like it doesn't get enough power. I've tried my old external DVD drive with the cable setup, and it will spin up, but never officially mount. It already has a disk in it, so the volume should show up right away.
System Profiler doesn't see any peripherals attached. The best I've been able to get out of that app was the message, "Warning: System Profiler is unable to detect firewire devices." Now all it does is list, "Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec," without that error message.
I don't want to drag this honker into the genius bar to have them troubleshoot it, and then have to ship it out. I can't afford any down days b/c I work most evenings and weekends on this machine.
Before I take it in and perhaps waste valuable days being without it, does anyone know how to troubleshoot this?

  • MacBook Pro won't see jpg files while browsing Samsung phone via bluetooth

I have been searching the forums for at least an hour or two and cannot find an answer. I have a Samsung SGH -A767, and when I "Browse Device" I cannot see the jpgs on my phone. Both are turned on and discoverable, and connect fine. I can send files from my Macbook to my phone with no problem, I can send individual files from my phone to my macbook with no problem when sent using the phone's controls. When I "browse" my phone's file folders, however, I can see the folders and the audio files within, but I cannot see the hundreds of .jpg's I have taken with my phone. I DO see, however, only three jpgs -- the three .jpg's that I have sent over from the macbook.

When I go to add a printer with the + it does not show any online printers.
Please help as I would like to scan to my PC over wireless.

    Hi @Flipperflopper7
The issue may be related to the new router. Since the router is dual band, the router may be broadcasting on the 5ghz frequency, the printer works on a 2.4ghz frequency only. If the router is on the 5ghz or is set to dual band, it would be a good idea to disable the 5ghz.
If the issue persists, let's try Pinging the Printer and testing the connection, click on the link below:
