X61: Constant low humming noise After using for an hr. or so.

After using the notebook for an hr. or so, low irritating/humming noise starts that continues without interruption. The noise appears to be not from the HD side, rather from the opposite side.
Noise continues whether used with battery or power outlet or both.
Any suggestion and diagnosis would be of great help. Thanks.

The following is the comment I posted on 9/15.  I have not received any replies so decided to search through other questions and came upon yours.  Have you resolved your humming noise yet?  I would love to know what this annoying sound is and how to get rid of it, if possible.
I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L505D-LS5002 laptop recently and am not happy at all with the annoying fan sound I hear for about 15 seconds every 50-60 seconds.  It is too loud to ignore.  I am not a computer "guru" and am just assuming it is the fan.  What else could be making this annoying sound.  It is a sort of humming/whistling  sound that "revs" up for about 15 to 20 seconds and then stops abruptly, only to start up again in about a minute or so.

  • Freeze up after using for awhile...

I am having issues with my iBook freezing up after using for awhile. It will start up just fine, programs run just fine, but when i've been on the internet for a while (or typing in Word or anything requiring a significant amount of memory)my iBook freezes up and there is a periodic clicking noise coming from the lower left hand side (by the vent). I've tried resetting the memory and that didn't seem to help anything. Once the computer is frozen it is down for a while. It will only start up after it has been disconnected from any power source overnight. Then everything runs fine for a while and then the clicking begins again. Does this sound like an overheating issue, harddrive issue or software? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    iBook G3 (white)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for all the help! Here's an update.
My iBook now refuses to safe boot but instead will boot up normally! I haven't had any issues with it freezing up but I have only been using iTunes to transfer music to my ipod.
The S.M.A.R.T. status of my drive is "verified".
When attempting to boot into "safe mode", the loud clicking happens immediately but stops after about a minute or two and then the grey apple and progress indicator appear. It will stay like this for a couple of minutes and then it automatically restarts and will boot up into the normal mode.
When attempting to repair my drive via the system disk, I get the error message that the underlying task reported failure on exit. Written in red in the message window is "Keys out of order".
Also, the archive and install feature is not working. It tells me that there was an installation error and to retry installation.
I will look into expanding the memory and additional disk repair software.
I connect to the internet via ethernet(cable modem) and/or airport.
Thanks again for all the help!

  • HP laserJet 5200dtn making buzzing/humming noise after printing

    Hi,
We have about three of these units in our office and one of them has recently began to make a loud buzzing/humming noise during and after printing a document. THe noise last about 5-10 seconds after the print job completes.  I can also make the printer buzz by removing the duplexer and puting it back in. The printer seems to load and then the buzz noise happens, again for about 5 seconds. I am aware of normal noise from these printers and this buzz is not normal.
This noise gets louder as the day goes on. Could this be a fan motor going bad?  We need to do somthing to get it quieter.
    Any help or suggestions?
    Thanks

This is a servlet application running under Resin, with Java hotspot 1.5_13 on Linux 64bit OS. JVM args are:

From the log it seemed that the memory usage jumped by 150M to 250M within 1.5 second, even when the user traffic was very light (a couple of page views a second, vs. 10 page views a second at peak). The same app was running fine for many hours on a Windows dev machine in load testing condition with about 300M heapsize. No memory leakage was found so far. (it would be pretty unlikely to have such a large memory leakage without being noticed in dev and testing)
    Thanks for any help.

A NewSize of 512m seems small for an 8G heap. This would probably cause most objects to be rapidly tenured into the OldGen heap space. (Ultimately depends on your application.) You might consider either using a NewRatio in place of NewSize/MaxNewSize or not use either and instead see how the jvm handles things itself with"-XX:+UseAdaptiveSizePolicy"
VisualVM is a good graphical tool for watching gc activity.
NewRatio=1 is the largest you can go for Eden, which will set (Eden and survivor spaces) equal to oldGen space. ie, for 8G, 4g each.
Watch activity in the gc tool, you will see "sawtooth" activity. If your sawtooth pattern does not maintain a flat profile, then you have in fact have a memory leak.

  • Inspire T6060 Low Humming Noise

I just received my Creative Inspire T6060 5.1 Speakers. I have the creative x-fi xtrememusic soundcard. The front left+right & center speakers seem to make a very low buzzing/humming noise. The centre speaker seems to make the most noise. What can I do to stop the buzzing? This occurs when no sound is being played through my soundcard and I can it even hear it slightly when low volume music is being played.

I finally fixed it! I found out that my wireless DECT telephone had a power cable that was unshielded, so I unplugged it and now the constant buzzing noise is gone!!! So happy to fix it..

  • Several Apps seem to just mysteriously shut down after using for a while. Same with Safari, I will be using Safari and it shuts down. Face book too. I've reset and shut down my iPad 3 and restart it, but it stills shuts down. What to do?

Several Apps seem to mysteriously shut down after using them for a while. Face Book shuts down , netflix, Safari, and other Apps. They work fine for a short while, or a long while, and then shut down and it brings me to my regular desktop screen. I've tried restarting by completely shutting down the IPad until I see the apple pic and turned it back on, but the shutdowns of apps continue. Anyone else have this issue? It generally started shortly after downloading and installing IOS 7......

  • MBP harddrive makes a lot of noise after working for few hours

Harddrive on My MacBookPro INtel 15" 2.0 makes nose after using it for few hours?
It also overheats. I took it to Apple care and they performed series of test and found nothing. To be honest, this is the on laptop that I had which gave anourmous amount of heat. I cant put it on my laps so I wouldnt call laptop.
    Are these know issues?
    Thanks.

Did you consider to read your manual before you went into the store?
    Quote:
    "Using Your MacBook Pro
When you’re using your MacBook Pro or charging the battery, it is normal for the bottom of the case to get warm. For prolonged use, place your MacBook Pro on a flat, stable surface.
Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn.
The bottom of the MacBook Pro case functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the computer to the cooler air outside. The bottom of the case is raised slightly to allow airflow that keeps the unit within normal operating temperatures. In addition, warm air is vented from the slots in the back of the case."

  • 27" I Mac, constant loud fan noise after replacing hard drive. Help

Having constant problems with noise since replacing my HD, which failed miserably.  Best Buy installed a 1T Seagate, sounded like airplanes taking off, took it back and they installed a Western Digital Cavair Green 1T.  Noise starts out soft, gets increasingly loud.  Can hear it running in another room.  Hate this- any suggestions.  I've already done the reset thing twice, no help.

Is it a late '09? Is the noise the fan? And was your first HD a Seagate as well, with the correct temp sensor cable? Here's an explanation. Surely Best Buy would know that but maybe not. A 1TB Seagate is listed as working in the article, but it has to be a HD with the temp sensor inside, not attached to the outside of the drive.

  • Constant low rumbling noise on headphone out

There is a continual low distortion noise on my HP DM4 headphone out, which is very annoying when no sound is coming out, and still audible and disruptive when sound is playing.  Is there something I can do about this, or is it a defect that I should get repaired?  Thanks.

The problem seems better when I disable wifi.  Just a muted thump every couple of seconds.  It seems like the audio circuitry isn't properly shielded...

  • WHAT A LOW QUALITY KEYBOARD!!! Broken after using for ONE day, what should I do????

    Hi guys~
I've bought my first thinkpad x230 from lenovo offical online store and recived it on yesterday. I was very exciting when I receive this extreamely light and pretty notebook.
-However, it not last long... After typing a series of numbers, the “5” key was automatically filped open!!! And I can not put it back again!!!
-I can't understand why will this happen in such kind of well-known computer? I have never faced this kind of problem when I using those cheap keyboard!
So, I wan't to know what should I do? I've contacted the tech support, she told me she will submit my problem to some guys and hopefully call me back, however, I didn't receive any call from lenovo.
I've searched on google and found some guy's thinkpad also have this problem....What should I say? How bad luck I am or what a low quality of lenovo? Or both?
Can I bring this poor quality thinkpad to the nearest retailer store to seek for help? Or I should go to the official service center which is very far from me....
BTW, in this case can I return this notebook for free? Or get a free repleacement of the broken key?

Can I just bring my laptop to the nearest service center and get this problem solved directly? You know, usually it will takes several days to receive the backup keyborad, I can't wait
You'll have to phone the service center and ask. (When I lived not far from Lenovo's Canadian service center and wanted to bring in a ThinkPad for warranty repair they said that would be OK with them but my unit would be put on a queue the same as if I'd shipped it in. They simply didn't offer walk-in, while you wait service.)
In the interim it may or may not be possible to reattach the key, even just temporarily, depending on whether it wasn't put on properly at the factory or if it's physically broken in some way. Or you could use an external keyboard until Lenovo sends you a replacement, etc.
I've just call the local service center, he told me that he can not repair individual key, they can just replace the whole keyboard..... How bad luck I am!!!

  • IMac 17" 1.25GHz crashes after using for a while

Hello, I have the following problem that started happening last week:
When I turn on my iMac, and use it for about 5-10 minutes, the screen freezes and changes color either to almost totally black or either the contents kinda slide down and all that is left is different colors of lines and patterns that change colors after a while.
When this happens, the computer doesn't respond to anything, and I have to shut it down by pressing the power button for a while. Sometimes when I try to reboot after this, it wont even go to the boot screen or make the startup noise.
Usually before this happens, I can hear this sound that sounds like the harddrive is trying to do something, or maybe the DVD -drive ? Anyway, it's a short sound.
I have tried the following to troubleshoot this, none have helped:
    - Ran the extended Apple Hardware Test, everything passed
    - Zapped the PRAM and NVRAM
    - Checked the S.M.A.R.T. status of harddrive, status passed
    - Removed all external hardware
Probably it is a hardware issue, but is there anyway to troubleshoot it, or do I have to take it to Apple repairs ? The machine is about 2.5 years old, and the only thing recently that has changed is that I installed the Airport card about 2 months ago.
    iMac G4 17" 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   512MB RAM addon (768MB total) and Airport Card installed

Yeah I might think it's overheating too, but the harddrive always makes this strange noise before the crash happens, so it could be related to the hdd? Or in the worst case, the motherboard.
Any tips on how to check for overheating? I have tried to run temperature monitor software, but the only sensor it detects is the hdd, and it looks fine.
I haven't opened my iMac fully ever, just the user serviceable parts. I installed an Airport card about 1 month before this started happening, could this be related?
Pierre, what did you do when your iMac started overheating? How did you fix it? Mine just full crashes and the screen goes weird. Thanks for your answer.

  • Firefox won't even open after using for 2 years

I love mozilla, have been using it for 2 years when the other day in the morning then in the afternoon when I went to my laptop and clicked on the fox it said Firefox can't establish a connection to the server, I have internet access and can open explorer, but not mozilla. I have removed mozilla and reinstalled the program, but it still won't open. I am using McAfee for my protection and have windows 7 home premium.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Lightroom 5.6 hangs after using for few minutes. MacBook pro, Mac os 10.9.5. Colour wheel (beach ball) appears continuously and machine is frozen.

I have been using Lightroom successfully on my MacBook pro for the past few weeks and been pleased how much better it is compared to iPhoto. Especially its speed.
This week a few minutes after starting Lightroom the spinning colour wheel appears and the machine is effectively hung. Nothing responds. Sometimes after many minutes the mouse pointer reappers but the colour wheel immediately reappears if the mouse is moved or any attempt is made to do anything. Only recourse is to force a power down and re-boot. But then the same thing happens.
System is MacBook Pro (15") from late 2008, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM (Have tried 3 GB but this makes no difference.) Running Mac os 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
I have checked file permissions and file system with Disk Utility, it found no problems. Have optimised Lightrooms catalogue. All made no difference.
I completely stuck now so any help appreciated,

    Hi a,
It looks like you have a 15" mid 2010. You can try the SMC reset. If that doesn't work, see the free repair program for similar issues:

Yes, that appears how Mavericks works right now. However, you can open the Address Panel, select all your contacts, then click the To (or CC, or Bcc) buttons to move the selection to the address field.
If it is not already in the Toolbar, right-click on the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar…
Then, drag the address panel up to wherever you want it.
You may also want to add it to the New Message window in the same way.
