X99S SLI Plus --- No Display from Graphics card?

Hey guys, this is my first build in about 8 years (ive been out of the game a long time), so I am far from being up to date. I have limited parts for testing and swapping so, swapping cpus, ram etc isnt much of an option, ive tested 2 video cards same issue on both.
X99S SLI Plus
i7 5930k
GTX 980 Classified (also have a 740 for testing)
4x4 gig DDR4 2400 (Installed in 1-3-5-7) G.Skill Ripjaw
EVGA NEX 750 G Modular power supply
NZXT Kraken X61 cpu cooler
EVOS 250gig SSD
WD 1b HDD and an HP Optical drive
Hook everything up, and no signal to monitor whatsoever. Have tried unhooking EVERYTHING except bare minimums and still nothing. Does same thing on 2 different cards. Any help?

Hi
Try >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed
Also try with single RAM stick and outside of the case, on non conductive surface like wooden table or motherboard box.

  • MSI X99S SLI PLUS + Thunderbolt 2 PCI-E card from asus

Hi MSI fans a question !
I got JTPM1: TPM Module Connector can i used this for thunderbolt 2!! And is this compatible for the system. I mean is it even possible to
have this card working! in my system
    demelo

This board does not support thunderbolt. The TPM module header is for adding a Trusted Platform Module with a cryptographic processor (for mor info on TPM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module). The TB header of a few ASUS boards is a proprietary connector for making ASUS thunderbolt cards work on ASUS boards supporting this feature. The only other Thunderbolt add-on card I know does only work on selected HP workstations. If not included by default Thunderbolt so far can't be added to an existing system.

  • X99 Sli Plus WHEA 17 Errors.....Again

So I decided to go back to MSI and bought my second X99 Sli Plus board. Thinking that by installing the latest bios (5 revisions since I had the first X99 Sli Plus) that of the kinks would be worked out. Sure enough after updating everything and reinstalling all of the newest drivers. WHEA logger 17 errors are once again flooding my System logs.
Is there a fix for this?
I went to an x99 Asus board for a while, and had no issues. After searching around, both Evga and Asrock have fixed this with Bios's.
Please for the love of god someone tell me how to make this stop other than disabling event viewer. It's annoying to no end.

Hi I have the same whea logger 17 issue again and again on my MSI X99 SLI PLUS!
I have the latest nvidia installed, the bios is the version 1.8, the graphic card is galax gtx 980 SOC (factory overcolocked).
For now I found a solution which is not a real solution. If you force from the bios PCI-E to GEN2 (in place of auto or GEN3, that is PCI-E 3.0), the whea logger errors suddenly disappear.
That's why I think the problem is a bios problem. Maybe next bios update must be focused on solving the issue. It's like we are not able to run gen 3 cards in this way.
Please MSI fix this issue in the next bios update!!!!
(or If somebody know how to solve this issue in a different way please help us out)

  • X99S SLI Plus Windows start problem

    Hello everyone,
A few days ago I was using my Windows 8.1 x64 in legacy mode and was working normally.
I made an update in the bios to the version E7885IMS V1.70(170) and decide to format and use the UEFI mode with MSI fast boot and the Windows 8.1 feature. But now when turn on my computer appears the MSI logo with the windows load screen and then it freeze in this screen, I got to turn on my computer if I go2bios and exit than start, but now when I made this again the windows screen is loading forever. Is there any known issue about this?
    Follow my config:
    X99S SLI Plus
    Intel Core i7-5960X
    32GB G.Skill 2400Mhz
    GeForce GTX 780 ti
    480gb Intel SSD 730 Séries
    Thanks at all foks.

    Hi
Was Win 8.1 actually installed in UEFI mode? Make sure it is first.
In the meantime,  >>Clear CMOS<< and see if you can boot normally without any features being enabled.
Your graphics card got latest vBIOS that is UEFI compatible? Contact manufacturer for vBIOS with UEFI support.

  • 4-pin CPU-PWR connector on x99s SLI Plus

I'm attempting to install a Kraken x-61 cooler into my Corsair 780T case and the MSI X99S SLI Plus mobo.  One step says:
Connect the 3-pin power cable from the pump to the 4-pin CPU-PWR connector on the motherboard.
In the MSI x99S SLI Plus mobo and the manual (En-6) I can't find anything called CPU-PWR.  The 3-pin power cable fits into the 4-pin CPUFAN1 connector, but I don't know if that's the correct connection.  Could someone tell me where the CPU-PWR connector is on the MSI X99S SLI Plus motherboard?

it can be confusing to start with but you get used to it once you have done it a few times!
so yes connect it to the fan header for CPU as that line has a sense pin that will detect if your pump fails and will shut the computer off to prevent the CPU overheating to stop it breaking the processor! just take your time and anything your not sure of feel free to ask us!

  • Can 1st and 3rd slots of X99S SLI Plus be used for SLI?

Can I use the 1st and 3rd full size PCI slots for SLI on the MSI Global X99S SLI PLUS mobo?
    Specs:
    * i7-5960X, intend to OC
    * Corsair H100i cooling
    * Corsair AX860i pu
    * 32gig 2400 DDR4
    * Samsung XP941 256GB Ultra M.2 PCIe
    * 2x Gigabyte GTX 970 Gaming, intend to OC
I'd like to not put the 970's on top of each other when there's so much extra space - will i get PCIx16 if I use the 1st and 3rd full size slots? Any downside at all?

yeah its a shame, makes for a bad design if using sli on air imho, one card runs 20-25c hotter than the other :(
if I had known of this design problem i would have gone for a different board :(
can't understand MSI's reason for this?
not looking forward to the summer heat coming, might have to try water cooling (if there is room) but even that looks a tight fit?
has anyone run wwater cooling on the MSI GTX970 Gaming on these boards?

  • MSI x99 SLI Plus Unstable

I just finished building my new PC with the following specs:
    MSI x99 SLI Plus
    I7-5820K
    16GB Corsair LPX 2666-15 Ram
    Evga GTX 980 SC
    Evga G2 SN 850W
I have been experiencing system instability. I updated the bios to the  latest 1.3 firmware. XMP Profile 1 enabled.
My PC randomly freezes unable to recognize keyboard or mouse inputs. I must hard reset at which time it reboots normally.
I ran Memtest86+ & it returned 8 errors during the first pass on test 6. Memtest86+ would also freeze during testing. I subsequently ran Windows Memory Test for 10 passes with no errors or freezes. I ran Memtest86 with all 12 logical cores in parallel for 25 passes with no errors or freezes. I reran Memtest86+ and have not been able to replicate the errors or freezing.
Today the PC froze & rebooted on its own. It was as if the power was being tripped as it would die turn on die turn on and then finally booted to a blank screen. The strangest part was that the on-board motherboard reset wouldn't work. I pressed the switch and nothing happened. I was able to reset the PC via the front panel switch. When the PC rebooted it displayed an error message about an overclock instability. I HAVE NEVER OVERCLOCKED the CPU! The only change to the bios was enabling XMP. The problem is very random and intermittent. Is it the Motherboard or RAM?

I upgraded my PC  a month ago with this bundle
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-023-OG&groupid=2833&catid=2512
which has the same MB/CPU combo and have been experiencing similar problems regarding stability. I've updated the BIOS to 1.3 and have run the Windows memory test without error.
I've tried several OC methods - the Overclockers UK setting, OC Genie and my own modest OC which involved just changing the CPU ratio to 38.
The Overclockers OC has never run successfully while the other two seem to run for one session OK but when I switch off then restart I get the 'Overclock instability' message.
It seems to run OK at the default setting though booting up can sometimes be problematic with it freezing intermittently at the MSI Logo page or at the Windows screen just before the animated logo starts.
Resetting then either solves the problem or produces the Windows error screen and selecting  'Start Windows normally' solves the problem.
BIOS B which I have never updated seems to run without issue.
I'm reaching the conclusion that this MB is inherently unstable at anything other than default settings.

  • Starting BIOS first time after build with X99S Sli plus

Is there a tutorial for the basic BIOS set up for this mobo?  I want to just set the computer to boot up tfrom my ssd.  Is there anything else I have to do in BIOS  before I load Windows 8.1?  I don't want to get into overclocking, just the basics.  Should I try to connect the computer to the internet right after I change the boot drive priority in BIOS? I'm thinking automatic updates to the BIOS via The Web.

If you mean using Live Update to flash your bios, be sure you updated to the latest Live Update version, and before flash the bios, be sure the bios does for your motherboard

  • Build question about the MOBO msi x99s sli Plus

I just started to build a new computer for the first time.  I have two questions (at this point, anyway) which I hope someone can answer.
    1.  When I attached the mobo to my new case (Corsair 760T) with the screws that came with the case, I noticed the middle riser is not like the other preinstalled risers.  It's more like a centering post.  I watched tutorials that said as much, but what I'd like to know is: Does that center post just stay as is?  Because unlike the other 8 risers, there's nothing for a screw to go into for the center post.  The mobo seems to be positioned correctly, but I'd like to know if that center post just stays as is.
    2.  My other question has to do with installing my new Kraken X-61  cooler over the cpu.  In several tutorials I've watched, it was stated to remove the back plate on the mobo behind the cpu and replace it with the plastic backplate that comes with the Kraken X61. cooler.  But when I look at the backplate behind the cpu on the MSI X99S SLI Plus mobo, there isn't any bolts to remove.  I also  noticed that the plastic backplate that came with the Kraken X-61 when adjusted to its widest dimensions, lines up with the socket on the top side of the MOBO where the Kraken X-61 heatsink gets connected with thumb screws iinto the socket on the MOBO.  Can I use the socket that's already on the MOBO?  If no, how do I take off the back plate on the bottom of the MOBO?
Hopefully you will understand what I am asking.

Thanks for responding.  I used the wrong term for the backplate in one sentence, calling it a bracket.  I meant plastic backplate.  But no matter, I got it installed.  You gave me a lot of relief, because there is no step-by-step directions with parts from four different manufacturers, so for a first-time builder with practically no technical know-how, it's not easy to know what to do.  Once done, I realized how simple it was, though.  The bracket on the Kraken x61 was already set and attached to the pump.  I just slipped it over the posts I installed for my socket type, and affixed it with the thumb screws.
    Thanks again

  • MSI X99 SLI Plus won't power up

Hi, here is what I got:
    Motherboard: MSI X99 SLI Plus
    Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K
    Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2800
    Power Supply: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W ATX12V v2.31
    GPU: ZOTAC ZT-90101-10P GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit DDR5
    The symptom detail is this:
1.If I power on (either through power button on case or MB) for the first time, only the fan that connected to PSU directly will spin for half of second. And then it stop and system is total slient.
2.After that if no matter how many time I push the power button nothing happen.
3.If I clear the CMOS and try power up, then step 1 happen.
4.The only thing that lit-up in MB is the built-in power button
Here is what my system look like
So far I have try to switch out different GPU and switch around the RAM stick but still does nothing. Any suggest will be very helpful tome. Thank you.

Take it all out the case and inspect the board for any visual defects.
Place it on non-conductive surface (wood, cardboard, NOT antistatic bags) and test with one stick of RAM (try different odd numbered slots) and VGA card. Make sure all power connecters are well connected.
Next step, test with another PSU if you have one.
Check CPU socket for bent pins, either with magnifying glass or you can take clear macro photos with good light and inspect them.
Best not to install anything in the case until you made sure it's working, at least the main pats (CPU RAM VGA) and main hard drive, it's nearly no overhead and saves a lot of time when turns out bad.

  • MSI X99 Sli Plus can't boot Quad Channel

    Hello,
some days ago i bought my new x99 Sli Plus.
    I installed everything, right now it's running with a 5820k and 2x4 Gskill 2400 Mhz ddr4.
The main problem is that the system can boot only with 2x4 Block in the DIMM 1 and DIMM 5 position.
If i try to use all my DDR4 modules ( actually 4x4) the system wont boot.
I put in triple channel (3x4GB ) in DIMM 1-3-5 and in quad channel (4x4GB) in DIMM 1-3-5-7
No Signal and no boot image.
I've tried some Corsair DDR4 running at 2666.
    Same problem.
It only boots in dual channel on DIMM1 and 5.
that's how i insert the modules.
    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi,
Is my understanding towards your post correct: your system boots only in Dual Channel, but also only when using slots 1&5?
Try each slot individually with only 1 RAM stick.
Check around the CPU socket and RAM DIMMs looking for any colour changes, smell, scratches or anything like that. If you find nothing, then my last suggestion is you check the CPU socket looking for bent pins (make sure to use magnifying glass and bright light).
    As additional,possible, solution:
There was someone with pretty similar issue. From my understanding, what they did is that for every time they've inserted a SINGLE stick, they went to BIOS settings, saved and shut down to insert another one (saved just to make sure BIOS/motherboard recognised the RAM stick inserted).
So my suggestion for now is:
Go to BIOS as with 2 sticks.
Manually change timings to: 15-15-15-35, 1.2V (check box of the RAM to make sure what they are, but according to GSkill that's timings used for 2400MHz DDR4)
    Save and Shut Down.
Insert 1 stick (to appropriate slot). Try to boot.
If boots, go into BIOS, check that timings remained unchanged, save and shut down. Do the same for 4th stick.
If you find nothing, and nothing works, I suggest you contact the seller.

  • MSI X99S SLI PLUS and XP941 - Booting, but very erratic behavior

I finally got my XP941 to boot in my X99S SLI PLUS using the beta BIOS. I Still can't see it listed as a drive in the system settings, but Windows 8 install sees it just fine, and I can see the "Windows Boot Manager" option available to boot from. Windows is booting just fine now, however it will  freeze up for about 3 seconds about every 10 seconds. I used CrystalDiskMark and found that speeds were over 1000MB as expected for sequential reads, but 4KQD32 reads were absolutely abysmal. I can't remember the exact number, but it was around .012 I've seen other reviews of the XP941 showing much higher speeds than this. I think the slow random read performance is causing the machine to lockup and have erratic behavior.
Does anybody have any ideas? or can anyone confirm that their SLI Plus is running this m.2 ssd just fine?
Another note is that I am only using 1 4GB Single Dimm of memory until my real memory kit arrives. Would running just a single dimm cause this?

Hello cbutters, I have the same configuration and I cannot manage to have the XP941 working (MZHPU256HCGL-00000).
The win8.1 setup does see it but after copying the files and rebooting it won't start.
What bios version do you use ? Can you indicate the specific settings you modified in the bios to have it working ?
    thanks
Using BIOS 136 from here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183560.0
Using default BIOS settings to start from, then enabling windows 8/8.1 features and changing it to M.2 PCIe. I didn't touch the SATA Config after loading defaults. (I don't have any memory remapping settings available to me either).
Keep in mind that the device won't show up as a sata device, so don't even bother looking for it. You just have to start installing windows and trust that it will show up....  make sure after initially installing windows 8.1 and first reboot that your first boot option is "Windows Boot Manager". The install was really quick. See my youtube video here:
