XBox 360 Kinect; 4GB vs 250GB

I'm hoping to purchase this today for my child for Christmas, but I need help!  I have no clue if I should get the 4Gb or the 250GB.  Can someone please help me decide which one I need?
Thank you so much!!!!

Hey mduncan,
I know it can be a tough decision on which hard drive size to go for with the Xbox 360, especially with such a gap in the range.  If you think your child will mainly just be playing games off the disc, you could probably go for the 4GB version because you really only have to worry about game save space.  You can also upgrade to a larger hard drive at some point but transferring data from your old one can be a bit of a task and requires a special cable to be done properly from what I understand.
Having said that though, there are a plethora of reasons you may want to play it safe and opt for the 250GB version.  Things like downloadable content, game demos, themes, etc. all take up a hefty amount of hard drive space (some game demos can take up 2GB in themselves).  That's not to mention any multimedia files your child may want to store on their system such as music, pictures, and videos, which add up fast in terms of GB.  Personally, I find game demos to be an excellent way to try out a game before making the decision to buy it so that could even save you some money in the long run.
I hope that helps with the decision making process!

  • Interference from XBOX 360 Kinect?

We recently got an XBOX 360 Kinect. Before that we had few problems with our FIOS TV Service.  Now almost every time we use the XBOX 360 with Kinect we lose our TV Service.  Generally, we get the channel unavailable error, on BOTH tv's, and we have to call the 800 number to get it to reset our ONT.  Sometimes that works, other times I have to go down and unplug the ONT (I think that's what I  unplug) and the battery backup.
The set up is that we have 2 set top boxes, the DVR and an HD receiver that can connect to the DVR.  The xbox is connected to the same TV as the DVR and the xbox and kinect attachment are near the DVR. as mentioned, it's not just the DVR that is affected but both TV's. If the regular receiver relies on the DVR working, then I could understand how both would be impacted.
Any ideas what is going on?  Could it be use of the xbox controller, the kinect attachment?

  • Skype and Xbox 360 kinect

Any plans on having Skype App for Xbox 360 with Kinect?

I'm extremely disappointed with this response. I've been a fan of windows for my entire life. I was even a microsoft developer for 12 years. However, Microsoft is dropping the ball and I'm finding it extremely difficult to continue my loyalty.
    1. Windows 8 == failure (Vista all over)
    2. Love the tablet but can't justify the cost (Bought Android which is equally as good for 1/2-1/3 the price)
    3. Love the phone and xbox integration
    4. Extremely pissed off that a multi billion dollar company can't answer a simple question and just leave everyone asking questions that go unanswered.
I may just end up buying sony and going android. I have no more loyalty and I have done nothing but stick up for you for years.

  • Xbox 360 250GB trade-in

So I went to my local best buy today and was all set to trade in my 360 for the "trade-in and trade up" promotion.. Then the person at customer service tells me that I was missing a controller to get the $150 credit..
I've read the promo terms and understood it as $100 for the 250gb console, $50 coupon towards xbox one and then an additional $10 per controller that was included..
Is this true? Am I not able to trade it in without a controller? I even told the person that I thought that the controller would just add $10 to my credit, and that I didnt think it was needed to get the $150 trade-in credit..
If I am able to trade-in my 250gb console without a controller for $150, then what can I do or show them when they tell me that I need to include a controller?

    Hello Noyskie,
Thank you for your interest in trading in your Xbox 360 at Best Buy. I am sorry to hear of the trouble you experienced at your local store when attempting to take advantage of the current trade-up offer.
It sounds like there may have been some confusion on the part of the associates you were working with. In most cases at least one controller is needed when trading in a console. For this offer, though, that was not required. With this in mind, I would encourage you to return to your store to attempt to trade in your console once again. If you have any questions or concerns while there I would encourage you to speak with a store manager who should be able to assist.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Yes the button is normally used to connect up HDMI devices.  However, in the past on this forum, pressing the button failed to solve the problem and hence the reason for asking for the product number.  Even though the HDMI button is on the HP Reclines, posting the product number helps other to relate to his/her particular product number. The HP USER Guide would have indicated the HDMI button.
    Thanks for posting your success.

  • Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000

    Hello,
I'm having quite some trouble with the new E3000 and my Xbox 360 Slim Model. I thought that the E3000 had like 4 antennas which should broaden the SSID Broadcast/Wifi Signal. Now when I try to scan for wireless networks on my Xbox360 it can't find the signal the E3000 is broadcasting. The E3000 is on the bottom floor and the 360 is on the first floor. Before this I had a WRT54G Linksys router and that one had no problem getting signal to the Xbox360. The E3000 shouldn't have this problem right, because it has more antennas. Another weird thing is that my laptop, which almost sits next to my 360, has no trouble at all finding the SSID/WiFi broadcast...
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I just want to connect my E3000 to my Xbox 360.
PS: I have upgraded to the latest firmware.

Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000Bad news guys. Whatever you were told about the xbox 360 being compatible with wireless n at 5GHz was probably misleading. Please work through the following link: Work your way through this:- http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/faqs/114-troubleshooting-and-improving-wireless
Pay attention to the following, and I quote from the above link:
"...The Internal Wireless N Adapter for the Xbox 360 S 250GB
As well as all of the points above to consider you also need to be aware that some Wireless N routers can work at 2.4GHz and 5GHz or both. <<<<The new internal Wireless N adapter will only work at 2.4Ghz>>>> so ensure you have this enabled. It has also been found that in some cases it does not work with WEP and prefers WPA2-PSK (sometimes called Personal) with AES encryption (not TKIP) so in summary for the internal wireless adapter these configureations seem to work best-"
We could have saved everyone a lot of time if the XBOX 360 support would have just admitted this from the start. NO 5GHZ compatibility from XBOX Wireless N adapter.
If there is a way to upgrade the wireless N adapter in the XBOX please post for the rest of us.

  • Xbox 360 Trade-In Issue

I've rarely felt so insulted in my many years of retail work and patronage as I have felt today at Best Buy. As a former employee of the chain, both in retail and the Geek Squad, I am generally quite forgiving of any issues I have while shopping there.
The goal of my visit was to trade in my Xbox 360 to upgrade to the knew Xbox One. There was a promotion online to get some value out of my old system. The promotion was as follows:
"In store only. Trade in any working Xbox 360 or PS3 console and receive a $50 coupon toward an Xbox One. Trade in a working Xbox 360 250GB or Sony PlayStation 3 Slim and receive a minimum $100 gift card"
I had a mis-matched console, admittedly; it was a black elite with a 250 GB final Fantasy XIII hard drive. Since it didn't specify models, I thought I would still be eligible.
When I got to the line, there were two other people being helped. About 5-10 minutes go by and I still hadn't been recognized by staff, but they were busy so that's fine. The bag was fairly heavy and I kept having to shift around but I wasn't even asked if I would like to place it on the counter or anything. I thought that was lame, but maybe that's not their policy.
Eventually the girl at the counter finished helping her customer then said (either on her radio or to another coworker) that she couldn't help "this guy" (I'm guessing me) because she had to go on her lunch break. It was at this time someone did say someone would be with me shortly. I waited a bit until I was told to go around the counter to Geek Squad. Then we moved to another station because the first one didn't work. Then that one had a pad problem so I had to go back around to where I started. A little annoying, but nothing too bad.
We finally started examining the system. The lady pulled it all out and verified that it worked and had a 250 GB hard drive. Unfortunately, my console was not in their system at all. My console was refurbished by GameStop but still had the seals, but because it wasn't the color white (since the Final Fantasy version what white) I couldn't trade it in. Despite the fact it was still an Xbox 360 Elite. It was just the wrong color.
I politely asked if there was anything we could do. Any sort of trade. She said "nope" and shook her head. Feeling a little miffed I asked if I apologized for being a bother and asked if I could speak to the supervisor. She curtly informed me that she was the supervisor. Her tone agitated me but I was aware I was on the verge of being one of "those" customers, but I asked to speak to a manager nonetheless. I wanted to get something for this console because I really wanted to spend my money at Best Buy and not have to go elsewhere. So she goes to the manager and explains everything to him. He comes out and asks how he could help. I explain that I really wanted to trade in the system towards an Xbox One like it was advertised in the ad online. This is where I completely lose it in my head.
He looks me in the eye and asks if I would like to recycle it.
Really? Out of all of the possible things you could tell me, you offer to take my item and destroy it for me? I was so surprised, I bet my jaw dropped. I don't really remember because of the rage I was thrown into. No, I didn't yell at him or get too bent out of shape. I politely (as much as I could) say no thanks and ask for my console back. Astonished, I remarked that if this is the way they treat customers then I should return the Galaxy phones my wife and I just got four days prior. I don't know if it was his Commonwealth accent or what, but that way he said "You certainly have that choice" only seemed to enrage me further. I left and of course the girl gives me a sickly-sweet "have a nice day" which only made me more disgusted.
I really wanted that system and I will buy it next, but certainly not from Best Buy. We are even thinking about returning the phones we bought and going to Verizon direct (I already set some of that up), and we may close out our Best Buy Credit Cards. We were even planning on buying a laptop later this month because the Geek Squad protection ran out on our last one and its about to break. I won't be doing that again, I can assure you. I'm so upset that mere words cannot describe them. All I wanted was something for my old console so it wouldn't have to collect dust and all I received from their management staff was insults. Good job. Hope it works out for you. I doubt my words mean anything to you, but maybe some one will hear them and take heed. I hope so, at least, because I don't want anyone to go through what I had to today.

  • Connecting XBox 360 Live to Verizon netbook

I purchased an XBox 360 Live for my son for Christmas.  I cannot get it to connect. We originally had Verizon Wireless Broadband w/ an internal modem. I went and purchased a Verizon USB760 to get service and also a Cradlepoint Router from Best Buy. Neither of these have worked. Any suggestions?

    MMcCon wrote:
Thanks. So what would be your advice?
Cable or DSL service, or Verizon FIOS if available.
Satellite will have latency problems as bad as or worse than mobile broadband.
As stated above, mobile broadband has issues with latency and with VERY low monthly usage caps compared to cable/DSL.  (Most cable/DSL providers institute throughput caps and not monthly usage caps but that's changing, however most that have caps now have set them high enough that only hardcore torrenters can hit them - e.g. I've heard 250GB thrown around as a number for Comcast.)
*disclaimer* I am not now, nor have I ever been, an employee of Best Buy, Geek Squad, nor of any of their affiliate, parent, or subsidiary companies.

  • Xbox 360 Refurbished with headset?

Hello, I recently purchased an refurbished xbox 360 250gb console from gamespot.  They told me that the headset was not included in any refurbished console because it comes directly from Microsoft.  That was the consensus at other stores too.  Now I checked the Bestbuy website and it says the refurbished models do come with the headset.  The description is the same as the new xboxes though so for anyone who has purchased the 250gb refurbished xbox from Bestbuy, does it actually come with a headset or is this just an error on the website.  I don't want to take a trip to bestbuy to buy this xbox if it doesn't actually come with it.  Thank you.

    Hi crazyicehead,
I can see why you would be concerned about the headset not being included given what others have told you but I don't see any reason why our product description would be wrong.  Ours should include a Black Xbox 360 headset if you are looking at this one: Xbox 360 Refurbished 250GB Console (Matte Black)

  • Kinect 4GB vs kinect w/ more GB???

I'm trying to decide which xbox with kinect to buy for our son.   I just noticed that there are different options of GB's.  Could someone tell me why I'd need more than 4GB's?
    thank you!

The 4gb console isn't great if you want to download full games off of xbox live, have lots of map updates on the hard drive, like to try a lot of game demos, watching game trailers, things that take up storage space essentially. So if he won't be getting a lot of downloadable content then he is probably fine with the 4gb but you can add a flash drive or something if it isn't big enough.
