Xcode 3.1.2 No Editor

This is bedeviling me! I have Xcode 3.1.2, then installed iPhone SDK 2.2. My first try at an iPhone project, the project window shows "No Editor" where the text editing window is. I reinstalled Xcode 3.1.2 package, including Developer tools, and get the same thing in a project window, ANY project window! iPhone, "Hello World" in C, it's all "No Editor."
Anyone have any idea how I can fix this, so I can actually put code into the friggin' projects?
TIA

Okay, I'm an idiot - please ignore!

How does one delete an entity from the data model editor in XCode 4.02?
I have searched for the past hour for a little "minus" button hidding somewhere on the screen.

Switch Editor Style to 'Graph' from 'Table' (lower right of the editor window).
Select the entity you want gone...tap once so it shows focus.
Hit the 'Delete' key on your keyboard. 'Undo' if you want it back.

I'm interested in making desktop widgets. I'm running OS 10.8.4 and downloaded the latest version of xcode 4.6.3. I go to run xcode and I get a blank screen with the message No Editor. The machine locks up and I can only get out of it by doing a force quit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Simple ques.: how to open new empty editor file in Xcode 4.0?

I use Xcode 4.0 as an editor for stand-alone C++ programs.  In earlier versions, I  would just open a new empty file (cmd-shift-N, I think; the new file option, which was just cmd-N, gave me something else) and start typing. But in v. 4.0, I haven't found the option to do this.  Under File->New, it only offers me the option of new project or new workspace.  There is an option for new file, but it's grayed out.  So what I have to do now, to get a new empty editor file, is open an existing C++ program in Xcode, delete the contents, and save it under a new name.

Alas, that doesn't work either (I had already tried that).  When I click on the Empty Icon I don't get an empty file.  Instead, I get a dialog box asking me to create a project.  Then when it's finished I get this:
Now, once I've done this, THEN I can do (because it's no longer grayed out) File/New/New File/Other/Empty (so this, at least, now explains why my submenu looked different from K T's: he must already have had a project created, while I had not).  But besides having all these unnecessary steps (since I have no interest in creating a project), it still doesn't give me just the simple text editor I used to be able to get; instead I get this more complicated-looking window with what looks like a debugger, which I'm not using:
On the other hand, if I open one of my existing C++ programs in XCode, then I do get just exactly the type of text editor window I used to be able to get just by directly doing cmd-shift-N.    So does anyone know how to get to this directly, without creating a project, etc.?:

  • I get a "No Editor" when I open a file on Xcode?

Hi gang, I'm new to the forum so my apologies if the question has already been asked.

I'll throw out some ideas I've gleaned from the net - you've probably already tried them - I'm guessing here.
    1) Try pressing <Command><1> - Show Project Navigator
from this link xcode4 - Trying to open project in xCode 4 - Stack Overflow
I'm guessing that these are individual files that cause your problem and not the entire project?
Tell me the file extension of the affected files. Or does it happen for all files?
(You can tell I've never had this problem myself.)
Here's some info from the Xcode documentation:
"Xcode provides viewers to display some files for which it has no editor (some audio, video, and graphics files, for example). If you select a file for which Xcode does not have an editor or viewer, Xcode attempts to display the file using the same Quick Look facility used by the Finder."
What happens when you try to open one of these source files in the Finder?
    2) Try double-clicking on the file to launch an editor in a separate window.
    ...yet another piece of info...
"Note: Sometimes an editor pane may display the message “No Editor.” This means that there is no file selected in the detail view or the Groups & Files list."

  • Command-TAB - How does this build the application list???

I have a need to enumerate the applications that have "windows", "icons", whether if they are minimized to the dock or not. I need basically the list of applications that Command-TAB brings you. How do you do this programmatically?
Everything I tried gave me everything, or just the applications that are NOT minimized. Drives me nuts. Tried CGWindowListCopyWindowInfo, NSArray *runningApps = [workspace launchedApplications], but I can't get to the filtering of the list I need - whatever Cmd-TAB brings you.
    Help?

    Hello,
I cannot reproduce what you say using launchedApplication.
    NSArray *launchedApps = [[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] launchedApplications];
    for (NSDictionary *app in launchedApps)
    printf("%s is launched
    ",[[app valueForKey:@"NSApplicationName"]UTF8String]);
This gives me all launched apps that I can see in the comd-tab shortcut. If I use runningApplications then I get much more results (any app running even in background).
I minimized all windows of two apps: Preview and MacSoup as one is Cocoa and the other is not (well I think Preview is Cocoa): they where listed as well

  • The editing "Guided" mode of Photoshop Elements 11 not works!

Using the editing "Guided" mode of Photoshop Elements 11 the working progress line hangs at 75% and Guided mode not works  ! The "Quick" and "Expert" mode, instead, working well.
Attention, please! I specify that I use Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5  and I don't have AntiVirus or Firewall actived... I have already tried to delete all Preferences, all Elements 11 cache folders, etc., tried to uninstall and re-install the Software... but without success. I hope that you can help me.

About the editing Guided mode of Photoshop Elements not working.
My FINAL solution to the problem. (But I hope also for an Adobe intelligent patch...)
I finally understand why the the "Welcome screen..." and the IMPORTANT editing "Guided" did not work in Photoshop Elements 11 (or with Photoshop Elements 10); the "Guided" panel does not appear with the options but, on the right, the progress bar hangs at 75% of the options panel and the panel remains empty.
After days of hard work and after many attempts on the Adobe Troubleshooting, I realized that the problem depends by Mac OS X anti-malware functions  (XProtect process). But I have not figured out why the issue did not showed running PSE into a new account; maybe, it is because Mac OS X still not intercepted always and blocked the old Flash Player plug-in, installed by PSE11. Examining System Preferences and Security Panel -> Advanced, you see the option that enables automatic control by Mac OS X for the Malware black-list.
As may be seen in the attached screeshot, if you open with XCode or with a text editor the file "/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/ Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist" you can read that Mac OS X (from 10.6 Snow Leopard) inserted the old versions of Flash Player plug-in (minor of "11.3.300.271") into the black list plug-ins, to block they.
I do not understand why Adobe has left this obsolete "Flash Player.bundled" plug-in in Photoshop Elements 11 or 10! PSE11, in fact, does not use the "Flash Player.bundle" plug-in but it uses "AdobeSWFL.bundle", contained into "System_Disk/Library/Application Support/Adobe/APE/3.101/adbeapecore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/". Does maybe Adobe ignores, perhaps, the existence of a BlackList in Mac OS X that blocks the Flash Player plug-in prior to version 11.3.300.271? ... Is that really useful to install this obsolete Plug-In (for Mac OS X 10.4 - 10.5) if PSE11 works from version 10.6 "Snow Leopard" onwards?
The Flash Player plug-in installed by PSE11 is the old version "10.1.82.73" as you can read in it info.plist file (or in my screenshot attached here) and I think that if you use Mac OS X Lion or Mountain Lion you can delete it because, as we read in his file "Info.plist", the plug-in is only for Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 ...
An hypothesis about the occasional occur of issue about "Guided" mode or "Welcome screen" not working is that PSE11, at start-up, makes a "program's call" to the old "Flash Player" plug-in installed by PSE11 and PSE10 and the system, peraphs, intercept this call through "xprotect" process that runs in the background; so, Mac OS X blocks the function of PSE11 based on Flash Player as, indeed, the "Welcome screen" and the editing function "Guided".
Or the problem lies in a behavior of PSE at startup that it due to old ACL permissions existing into Home's folders (because belong the previous Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.6 version). PSE thinks of having to boot the old Flash Player plug-in containded in APE. This would explain why PSE runs well and "Guided "PSE mode works if start-up creating a new account!
Note! Utility Disc does not correct, by default, the ACL permission in Home!!! Adobe, then, rather than suggesting to create new accounts ... must correct PSE by removing any reference to the old Flash Player plug-in. Otherwise, there is always the risk that Mac OS X prevents proper operation.
I tried to rename it or remove this plug-in and PSE11 always work well, but for pedantry, I preferred this solution:
    - I installed the latest version of Flash Player from the Adobe site.
    - I opened the package to "/ Library / Internet \ Plug-Ins/Flash \ Player.plugin/Contents/PlugIns/FlashPlayer-10.6.plugin/Contents /"
    - I copied the four objects (Folder MacOS and Resources folder and files: info.plist and version.plist)
    and
glued them in "Adobe/APE/3.101/adbeapecore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Flash Player.plugin / Contents /" overwriting existing ones.
I have one more doubt left: I have not yet enabled the iCloud option for the Photo Streaming and the iTunes Match sync; this functionalities was enabled in my old account when PSE did not working.. I hope that PSE11 will work well even when I will enable these features to sync with my Apple accounts...

  • Multithreaded Display Dialog?

I'm believe this must have been asked before.  Forgive me for doing it again.  But, my searching has only found very old discussions on it.
Is there a way, using Applescript Editor, to display information to a user and not stop the script from running.  Display dialog and display alert both pause the script while waiting for the user.
I'm confident I could do it in XCode.  But, I'm not ready to take on the efforts in mastering that just for this one application.
    Thank you very much!

Regular AppleScript doesn't have anything but those modal dialogs, so you would have to use a separate application or something else such as AppleScriptObjC or RubyCocoa.  Starting in OS X 10.7 Lion, the AppleScript Editor has a Cocoa-AppleScript Applet template that will create an application where you can use Cocoa stuff via AppleScriptObjC without the need for Xcode - without using the Interface Editor though, you will need to create UI objects manually.
I have a Cocoa-AppleScript template/example that uses a controller script with a few support handlers to create and use a message window with a scrolling text view that is not modal, if you want to take a look at that - it can be downloaded here.

  • Display IP address in Applescript MainMenu.nib

    Hi Folks-
I'm trying to write a simple Applescript application in Xcode that has a start and stop button to start and stop OSXvnc-server. It works fine, except that I'd like it to display the IP address in the main window after you've clicked on the start button.
I have it to the point where I can have it pop up a dialog box with the IP address when you click on the start button, but I can't figure out how to make it display persistently in the main window, not just a dialog box.
The Applescript I'm using to pull the IP address is:
    set output to do shell script "/sbin/ifconfig en0 | grep 'inet ' | awk '{print $2}'"
    display dialog output
I'm fairly new to application development, and have been scouring the web trying to find an answer for this, with no luck.
Mike Bombich's ShareMyDesktop (now unavailable from him) did this, and claimed to do it all with AppleScript.
    Thanks!

    Why the difference?
I'm not totally sure because I never work with .scpt files when I'm doing AppleScript Studio stuff in Xcode.
One difference is that .applescript files are stored as plain text and get compiled when you build your AS Studio application. On the other hand .scpt files contain compiled AppleScript code (although they may get re-compiled when you build your app).
Also, opening .applescript files within Xcode will open in Xcode's editor window. However, from a quick test on my machine it appears that opening a .scpt file within Xcode opens it in Script Editor. I suspect that Script Editor is not aware of the AS Studio scripting dictionary (That's what the "AppleScriptKit.sdef" file is that's included in an Xcode AS Studio project). And without the AS Studio dictionary available to it Script Editor will generate errors for any AS Studio specific classes, handlers etc...

  • Ruby and msfcli

    $msfcli
/usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `require': iconv will be deprecated in the future, use String#encode instead.
it doesn't seem to make it non-functional but I am curious what I can do to make it go away...

Yes, you can use Xcode 3 to build pure Ruby apps, but you probably won't want to. You create an External Build System project and tell Xcode to use the Ruby interpreter to build the project. I wrote an article that walks you through the creation of a simple Ruby program. You can read it at the following URL:
    http://www.meandmark.com/articles.html
The reason you probably won't want to use Xcode 3 is that there are better options for pure Ruby. TextWrangler is a free text editor that lets you run and debug pure Ruby programs without leaving TextWrangler by using the shebang (#!) menu. I'm sure there are other Mac text editors that support Ruby as well.
If you're writing large Ruby programs, you can use Xcode for project management and version control and use an external editor like TextWrangler to edit and run your code. In the Xcode preferences window, click the File Types button. From there you can tell Xcode to use an external editor for your Ruby source code files.

  • Select project file (to open editor), Run Script - XCode Organizer

    Hi,
I'm new to AppleScript, but I'm trying to automate a number of login processes. I have most of my needs worked out, but there are still a couple of loose ends which will save me substantial time if I can get them running. I'm not finding documentation of such processes, so maybe I'm barking up an empty tree. Is this possible; and were can I find the necessary documentation:
    1.
I have a Ruby project maintained in the XCode Organizer. I'm striking out on blind tries. What I need to do is equivalent to selecting a document *in the organizer*. It has to have the same effect as manually negotiating the file/directory tree, because selection of the file further enables running an Action Script in the Organizer, the name of which is "START MONGREL SERVER."
I have opened the target document, application_controller.rb, in the conventional manner you might open a document, but this has only opened the document in a separate editor window. This doesn't suffice, because it is the selection of a project document which makes the related Action Script available for further running.
How then might I do this?
    2.
After this file is selected, I need to run the action script, "START MONGREL SERVER." How likewise can I do this?
    3.
Thirdly, is it possible to wait until threads invoked by previous script statements are finished? If so, how? Otherwise, can we insert a "wait" statement of some kind to delay execution of further instructions? If so, how?
    Much thanks in advance,
    m

    Hi,
ODP doesnt have anything built in to run sql scripts. You'd likely need to parse the script yourself and execute the commands one by one, or you could shell out and run the script via sqlplus.
    Hope it helps,

  • Where is the Xcode editor?

    Softwater and Kappy,
A lady at Apple showed me that I could never download the developer software until I upgraded my Mac operating system to 10.6.8 or 10.7.3.  I chose 10.7.3, which is called 'Lion', paid the $30, and was ready to go!
Almost.  Hey guys, when the IDE opens (XCode) there is a message in the middle that says 'no editor'.  How do I bring the proper editor into the IDE?
Do I also have to do something heroic to bring in a Graphical User Interface (GUI)?
    RPB

You need to select a file to edit.  If the navigator isn't showing, you can reveal it by using the View > Navigators > Show Navigator menu item.  There is also a user guide in the help menu - Xcode has a lot of stuff crammed in there.
Don't forget to update your profile, a lot has changed since Leopard - also take a look at the Developer Forums.

So please tell me how to do the same and is there any pre stalled text editor on mac if yes then where and if no then which text editor to install and how to install gcc...please help me out thanks in advance !!!

I have started with writing  c code on mac using xcode .....but one of my friend told me to use gcc for coding.
Why? If you are developing and writing code on a Mac why would you not use the tools Apple has given you? And Xcode, once you get use to it, is a very nice development environment that will make you life a whole lot easier.
If you insist on using an editor and the terminal I would recommend  Emacs   but it has a long learning curve so  something like TextWrangler  will work too.
As for the compiler if you have Xcode installed install the command line tools and you will be able to compile from the terminal.
    good luck
