XDB 9.2.0.3 and sqlPlus 9.2.0.1

Recently upgraded our 9i development server to 9.2.0.3 because we were having problems with XDB version 9.2.0.1 of the database. Once theses upgrades were performed we started having some other issues.
Seems using sqlPlus 9.2.0.1 from our client has problems performing basic operations with XDB 9.2.0.3, and Mark recently confirmed this in another post problem with installing basic demo A simple test like this fails:
SQL> select XDBUriType('/xdbconfig.xml').getXML() from dual;
ERROR: ORA-21500: internal error code, arguments: [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s]
From our upgraded server running 9.2.0.3 sqlPlus it seems to work fine:
SQL> select XDBUriType('/xdbconfig.xml').getXML() from dual;
XDBURITYPE('/XDBCONFIG.XML').GETXML()
<xdbconfig xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/xdbconfig.xsd" xmlns:xsi="http://w
How is everyone upgrading their client, or rather sqlPlus to 9.2.0.3? I finally broke down and installed 9i Personnel and used the RDBMS 9.2.0.3 patch on my workstation to get it done. If there is a better way to get this done, I couldn't find it. I'd hate to have our db developers install 9i personnel, it seems like an extreme solution. Any help would appreciated.

If I remember correctly, the first time I tried to update Installer from 2.2.0.12 (by manually selecting products.jar from directory where I extracted 2.2.0.18), the thing got stuck somewhere at 90%.
So I restarted machine and run setup.exe from 2.2.0.18 directory (it performs automatic uninstall of 2.2.0.12).
After that I had no problems.

  • Oracle Client and SqlPlus on Mac Os X Leopard Configuration Script

    Hello,
    I have just written 2 bash scripts for the installation and configuration of SqlPlus and the Oracle Client v10.2.
    The first script MacSqlPlus.sh install the client set the environment variables, the second TNSconnectMac.sh help to configure the tnsnames.ora. They can be found here
    http://www.danilovizzarro.it/script/MacSqlPlus.sh
    http://www.danilovizzarro.it/script/TNSconnectMac.sh
    In order to have them working it's required to download the oracle client basic lite and SqlPlus in the /var/root directory.
    A step-by-step tutorial can be found here http://www.danilovizzarro.it/?p=10
    Soon I will try to upload a demonstration video.
    Your comments are always appreciated.

    Doug,
    It is possible that there could be data corruption, because this is not a tested, thus not supported, setup. I hope that helps!

  • Unable to connect to 10g database using Devloper 6i and SQLPLUS 8

    Dear all Developers,
    I have installed 10g with patch 10.2.0.3 and developer 6i, i am not able to access the database with Forms Devloper 6i, Report Devloper 6i and SQLPLUS 8 (installed by default with DS) when i try to initiate connection the sessions crashes. (DB character set AL32UTF8)
    Please note we already have ORACLE RAC 10g version 10.2.0.3 (DB character set AR8MSWIN1256) developer can connect to this db with no errors
    Please suggest how i can solve this problem
    Thanks
    Zeeshan Sheikh

    First of all you need to be on Patch set 18 of Oracle Forms 6i -- but I think you will still have problems with the character set you are using... but you'll need to search out details.

  • Jdeveloper 10.1.3.2 and sqlplus password prompting

    OK,
    I downloaded jdeveloper 10.1.3.2. Created a new database connection, let's call it 'TestDBConnection'. In the authentication tab, made sure 'deploy password' was checked. Tested database connection everything works. So far so good.
    Now create a pl/sql procedure. i.e
    create or replace procedure test
    is
    begin
    null;
    end;
    right click on file, select 'Run in sql*plus', click on 'TestDBConnection'.
    Sql*plus comes up 'BUT' it prompt for a password!!!!!
    WTH!!! 10.1.2 never had this 'problem/feature' this is sooooo annoying. Everytime I want to compile a sql file from JDeveloper, I have to type in the password!
    Anyone know a work around for this?

    This is a security requirement we had - since we don't want to pass the password visibly to SQLPlus.
    A workaround for this is to go into tools->External Tools and add an option that will invoke SQLPlus with the user/pass you want and pass the name of the file you are on to it as a parameter.

    =================================
    A couple of important points.
    First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
    Additional notes on the listener: One listener is capable of listening on multiple ports. But please notice that it is the listener using these ports, not the database instance. You can't bind a specific listener port to a specific db instance. Similarly, one listener is capable of listnening on multiple IP addresses (in the case of a server with multiple NICs) But just like the port, you can't bind a specific ip address to a specific db instance.
    Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
    Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
      )Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
    $> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
    Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
    Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
    First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
    Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
    Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
    Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
    Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
    Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
    Third: If the client is on the same machine as the db instance, it is possible to connect without referencing tnsnames and without going through the listener.
    Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
    $> sqlplus scott/tigertns will attempt to establish an IPC connection to the db instance. How does it know the name of the instance? It uses the current value of the enviornment variable ORACLE_SID. So...

    ERROR:
    ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specifiedOk, that is how we get from the client connection request to the listener. What about the listener's part of all this?
    The listener is very simple. It's job is to listen for connection requests and make the connection (server process) between the client and the database instance. Once that connection is made, the listener is out of the picture. If you were to kill the listener, all existing connections would continue. The listener is configured with the listener.ora file, but if that file doesn't exist, the listener is quite capable of starting up with all default values. One common mistake with the listner configuration is to specify "HOST=localhost" or "HOST=127.0.01". This is a NONROUTABLE ip address. LOCALHOST and ip address 127.0.0.1 always mean "this machine on which I am sitting". So, all computers are known as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1". If you specify this address, the listener will only be capable of receiving requests from the machine on which it is running. If you specified that address in your tnsnames file - on a remote client machine - the request would be routed to the machine on which the requesting client resides. Probably not what you want.

    SQL> select distinct snap_time from perfstat.stats$idx_stats;

  • EMail and SQLPLUS activity in process flow

    Hi Guys,
    I am struggling to get the email activity working. I entered all the details but no email is sent?
    Secondly, I had an easy sql plus script that I pasted into the script property box
    But the sqlplus just does not execute?
    truncate table xxx;
    quit
    Any ideas?

    Make sure there are no spaces after you have replaced DISABLED with NATIVE_JAVA.
    Any space after the NATIVE_JAVA will not work.
    Can you give details like what are you using Script or Parameter list etc ?
    Did you configure the deployed location for the SQLPLus parameter ??
    Regarding Your EMAIL -
    Is your process flow showing any error regarding email ??
    Create a simple process flow with email activity only.
    Set FROM_EMAIL , TO_EMAIL , SUBJECT ,MESSAGE_BODY, SMTP_SERVER , PORT
    SMTP_SERVER and PORT values are very important.
    Check connection to SMTP_SERVER by running the following command on dos prompt
    telnet smtp_server_name port
    If this works this means your smtp server is working. Now just deploy and run your processs flow.
    If it still doen't send you email, check whats in the log.
    The log should give you any errors regarding email like ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_TCP", line 17 ,etc (if any).
    Thanks,
    Sam.

  • XDB is asking for username and password

    Hi,
    I have an application which uses Oracle 8i.
    Recently I have installed Oracle9i and I am
    using port number 8080 for one of my web server.
    When I tried to access any Servlet from 8080 port number, it is asking for XDB user name and password. What could be the problem? Do I need to stop using 8080 port in my web server?
    Thanks in advance
    Suresh

  • Unix script and sqlplus statements

    I have a unix file which contains sql statements. Included is the sqlplus statement to log on to the database with the username and password: xxxxx/xxxxxx@sid<<EOF
    When I run the unix file from my command line outside of sql, it runs successfully. When I attempt to run the same file in a cron job, I receive the message, sqlplus: not found.
    How can I run this unix file in a cron job? Is something else needed?
    Thank you,
    GD

    When I log to unix with the root password and issue:
    01 9 23 4 3 su - xx -c ". /home/xx/.profile;/home/xx/test.sh"
    The test.sh script executes successfully.
    When I log on with my userid and put the line in a crontab, I receive the following:
    Your "cron" job on yyy1
    su - xx -c ". /home/xx/.profile;/home/xx/test.sh"
    produced the following output:
    su: Sorry
    If cron is run by ROOT, shouldn't I get the same results?

  • SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME with instant client and sqlplus

    On an hp-ux 32 ,,,
    - i downloaded instant client from here http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/hpsoft.html
    - installed and set my shlib_path to directory where I extracted it.
    - running sqlplus comes up with this ...
    Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
    Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found
    SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory.
    - what the heck am i missing here?
    Thank you.

    you can see from the 'tusc' ouput below that it is clearly trying to locate msb files. These files are not packaged with the instant client. So how it this supposed to ever work? These files are simply missing from the distribution.
