XDP Merging

[Running LiveCycle ES2 SP2]
I have about 30 XDP's on the server and we have a form guide where the customer will select the forms they would like. Once they have selected the forms a request is sent to LiveCycle to pull the XDP's, merge them and then convert to an interactive PDF. I am having the following issues:
We can't stitch XFA based PDFs using the LC process(Assembler). So we are trying to implement the functionality by stitching the XDPs together and to convert the merged XDP to PDF document. We are getting the merged XDP's, but we have to pass the "MergedXDP" document variable to an activity for converting to a PDF.
There are three activities that support XDP to PDF conversion that we have tried,
1  Forms - RenderPDFForm
In this case It is taking only an input of type string and expect a path where the XDP is placed in the LC server. In our case we have to give the intermediate result(Merged xdp) as a 'document' type as input. So this does not seem to help us.
2. Output - generatePDFOutput2
This is working but we are getting a flattened PDF as result. As this is Output ES activity, It will provide only flattened PDF as output, but we need non-Flattened output and we have to use renderPDFForm or convertXDPtoPDF where we are getting the error.
3. PDF Utilities - convertXDPtoPDF
We are getting "Required PDF element missing from XDP" error. We are not able to correct this..
Any help would be appreciated.

Here RenderPDFForm service will be useful:
In Input--> * Form--> by Default Literal Value is selected.
Chnage it to Variable and assign the document type variable.
Thanks

  • XML-XDP Merging - Some files are dropped - how to fix it?

    Hello!
I've created a very simple process in Workbench using Output to merge XLM and XDP files and generate PDFs.
The XML files are dropped in a watched folder and each file has 10,000 lines.
If I drop just one XML file the process will run smoothly and create the PDF accordingly.
However, if I drop, say, 12 files in the folder, only 3 or 4 files are processed and the others are dropped. In the error log I get this:
    Failure Time----Fri Dec 17 11:32:07 BRST 2010

    Internal error.

    ALC-DSC-000-000: com.adobe.idp.dsc.DSCRuntimeException: Internal error.
Is there a way of solving this?
When the process was running I checked the CPU and RAM usage in Task Manager and realized they were both at 100% most of the time.
Is there a way of avoiding this problem?
I'm running this on a Core2 Duo with 4 GB RAM.
    Thank you for any ideas!

  • Production Print ES

I am using watcehd folder mechanism for stream serv on windows.
    Description of Workflow
    1) Production Print will take 3 different file types as input. These types are the following:
1.1) A PDF that is the primary content of the print job
1.2) A XML file that contains all the recipient addresses and printer configuration details
1.3) A XDP that will generate a PDF configured with the recipients' mailing address from the XML file in 1.2 (Similar to a cover letter)
    2) Business rules:
2.1) Production Print must create a new PDF using the XML and XDP which will have a recipient address in the top left corner.
2.2) If there are X number of recipients then Production Print should create X PDFs with 1 recipient per PDF.
2.3) Each generated PDF must append the PDF from 1.1
2.4) Each combined PDF from 2.3 should be printed.
2.5) According to a specific parameter in the XML, there are cases where only 1 copy of the generated PDF should be printed in contrast to 2.2
Please help me on various steps invloved for developing the above work flow.

    Here's one approach:
    A. Read the PDF (1.1) using PDFIN and store it in the post processor repository.
    B. Read the XML (1.2) and merge it with the XDP (1.3) (one per recient according to 2.2)
    C. Store the result of B in the post processor repository. Create metadata regarding recipient and number of generate a ppq (post processor query)
    D. Read the ppq and merge the result of A and C (once per recipient)
E Format the result of D in an appropriate printer language and print.
F 2.5 can be implemented using a script in C.
The trick is as you can see to use the post processor repository to merge the content of the PDF (read once) with the output of the XML/XDP merge (several) asynchronously. This is a pretty common scenario for LCPP.
    Hope this helps.

  • XDP data merging on MAC OS X issue.

We have a problem to merge the xdp data with downloaded pdf form.
To identify the problem and to find the solution I created a very simple example
    - just a form with one text field. The situation now is following:
    1. On the server we have a form designed in Form Designer 7.0 with one TextField.
    2. The xdp file with data is on the server.
    3. Internet browser downloads the xdp file which then points to the pdf form.
    4. The PDF form is downloaded and Adobe Reader merges data from the xdp file and the pdf form.
    5. The result is then shown in the browser.
We have much more complex scenario when a lot of data is bound to the form and
then webservices are called to fill dynamic fields with appropriate data and so on.
    The problem is:
It works on Windows OS but there is no way to run it on MAC OS 10.x.xx.
    Tested with Safari and Firefox.
The xdp file is loaded, then Reader loads the pdf form but the data from xdp is simply not put to the text field.
I have also created even simpler example for testing :
    1. xdp file with data which points to the local pdf file - it works (it means run locally only).
    2. the same xdp file which loads pdf file from our site - doesn't work.
(I'm talking about MAC OS 10.0.11, Form Designer 7.0, Reader 8 and Safari and Firefox, latest versions).
So the conclusion is: If Reader downloads pdf form from web site it ignores binding.
If Reader uses the same xdp file but pdf form is a local file - then the binding works.
BTW - no errors are reported.
    Any ideas?

From February 2008 to October 2009 - Same (or similar) Problem.
XDP + PDF -> Thing not working with Safari on MAC OS 10.5\6 - when using Adobe Acrobat Reader (Free) Version 9.X.X
Please fix it because it is working fine on MS Windows!
Though XDP + PDF -> This thing is working with Safari on MAC OS 10.5\6 if Adobe Acrobat Reader (Free) Version 8.X.X 's PDFViewer.Plugin is installed -- This is we do not want to restrict our users on particular version!! -- Also note that we have to run (always) Safari in the 32-bit mode for it to work.

  • HELP:Merging External File (JPG/PDF) into XDP/XML Merged PDF on Client

I need some serious help pointing me in the right direction.
    What I have...and is working:
I have an Invoice Template/PDF/Form created by LiveCycle with form fields.  When requested by the user, in real-time I send XML from my server that is merged with the PDF template to create a single PDF file with multiple pages of invoices.  Each invoice fits on one page.  Works great...technically I think this is called or used XDP to merge the two on the client computer with a PDF and XML being supplied by the server.
The server is just a generic Unix/PHP/MySQL environment...no Adobe products are installed (or can be installed on that machine).  I rely entirely on the client's computer to assemble and create the finished PDF.
    What I NEED:
So the client is now asking that I be able to insert receipts into the invoice PDF stream.  So in order words you would still have the invoices above, but if we happen to have scanned receipts for a given invoice, they want those embedded into the PDF.  A finished product would look like:
    Page 1 - Invoice 00001
    Page 2 - Receipt #1 for Invoice 0001
    Page 3 - Receipt #2 for Invoice 0001
    Page 4 - Invoice 00002
    Page 5 - Invoice 00003
    Page 6 - Receipt #1 for Invoice 0003
    etc.
Can someone point me in the right direction to make this happen?
Perfect world, I would like to have the invoices be actual images of the receipts (assume we need to have a JPG or PDF scan of the receipt)
Okay world, I guess we could just attach the actual document so if it is XLS, DOC, PDF...etc...I don't need to convert...just attach.
Last choice, I could just include hyperlinks back to our server for the client to click on and open the receipt document as we store it.

From your post it sounds like you are Central Pro (a product for which I am by no means an expert), but you say you want to upgrade to a newer product from your "legacy" one. Is there a reason for this? Have your requirements change so that it no longer fits them? Central is still in the current Adobe roster and as far as I know there is no plans to get rid of it any time soon, so if it does everything you want I don't see why you would want to change.
There is no product in the LiveCycle suite that merges xml data into a form from the command line. LiveCycle (with the exception of Designer) is a suite of server products, so the closest you would come is LiveCycle Forms (merge the xml and create a fillable PDF) or LiveCycle Print (merge the xml and print the form).
    Hope this helps somewhat.

  • Merging XML and XDP files

    Hello!
I must build this POC for a client and the idea is merge XML and XPD files to feed a LiveCycle Output process and create PDF files.
I've built the XDP files and the XML to start things, now I need to figure out how to create the process to merge them in Workbench.
Is there any tutorial to help me with this task?
    Thank you for any ideas!

  • Capture data in 1D barcode upon merging XML with XDP?

    Hi,
    The scenario is:
Forms Server 7.2.2 is being used for merging XML data with an XDP file to render a PDF (displaying a pre-filled form to user).
On the XDP, there is a 1D Barcode and few fields are mapped to this barcode (the barcode is intended to capture form identification information).
Upon merging, the barcode should capture the data of those fields (data is being fetched from a db and fed as XML to Forms server). This is required as the pre-filled form will be printed and then mailed to another location, where the barcode will be read using a decoder to capture form indentification.
Will the 1D barcode captures data from those fields, after merging XML with XDP?
The form is NOT Reader Extended. Is Reader Extending a necessity for enabling 1D barcode to capture data?
Is this also applicable for 2D barcodes?
Thanks a lot for your help! :)

    Thank you Hodmi,
I had forgotten to define the Record name parameter in the PDF Output Options.
As the XML structure changed, not upating this parameter was preventing the process from working.
Now it is working just fine. Thank you!

  • Merge xdp and xml to xfa form variable

Hi, I am new with Adobe Livecycle and xdp/xfa form management.
In my process I have a xml containing string data, I have also a xdp file. My goal is to merge them and stock into a xfa form so that it can be showed to an user GUI.
I know that RenderPDFForm service can merge xml and xdp into a pdf file. Is there a way to merge them into a xfa form file?
    Thank you.

  • Merge XDP Templates

    Hi,
I have 4 different XDP templates and the pdfs are rendered for each template perfectly . So in all 4 different PDFS are generated during runtime. All the 4 templates have different Master Page . My question is can we merge the 4 templates so that only one PDF get generated?
I know there are API's which do merge PDFs but we want to check whether there is any funcitonality in Form Server 7.1 to achieve this.
    Thanks,

Stitching multiple XDP templates together is a very difficult thing to do and there are currently no
commercially available products that will do it. You're better off taking one of the following
    approaches:
    - If your forms are dynamic (i.e. the form grows or shrinks) then you're better off building a
single XDP template with 4 separate body page definitions
    - If your forms are static, then you can merge the PDFs as a post process using LiveCycle
Assembler or some other commercially available software that will merge PDFs together.

  • Is there any way to prevent fields from being overwritten when importing data via xdp-file?

In an pdf-form designed with LCD everytime the form gets merged with an xdp-datafile content of all fields get overwritten, regardless which data-binding (normal, global, none) is assigned to the fields and regardless if the fields are exluded in the xdp-datafile. Is this normal behavior and is there any way to prevent fields from being overwritten?

The xdp-file is first exported from Acrobat Professional 8 (export data as *.xdp) to get the complete structure. Then in the xdp-file some fields are removed manually and other fields are filled with data. When the modified xdp-file is opened again with Acrobat Professional 8 it grabs the original pdf-form and merges the manually filled fields into the form. With the merge all other fields in the form are overwritten, even if they are not defined in the xdp-file. And that is what I want to avoid. I want to merge the xdp-file into the form and keep the data in fields not defined in the xdp-file.

  • Instantiating a form as different views and merging them at the end of the workflow.

    Hi,
I have a big doubt in implementing one of the crucial part of our workflow design. It goes like this.
1.we have a form which is mainly classified into five types and a total of 16 subforms.
2.the five types in which the form is divided is based on the approver and the type. of requests.
3.different views of the whole same form have to be sent to the five approvers.
4.once the approvers approve the request,a wait point must be present in the workflow, where it will wait for all the views of the form (which are approved) and must merge them into one single pdf form ie., the original form.
so the change in the views of the total form must be reflected in the main form at the end while it is merging.
also all the views of the form are to be merged in to one for the sake of arhiving and rendering it to pdf.
    so my questions are..
1.How to add multiple views of the main form (xdp) in the workflow separately as individual xdp templates(based on the five types i mentioned)?
2.How to merge the form views again in to single form or how to make the changes reflect in the main from when changes are made in their views.?
    thank u..

  • XDP data import in Acrobat 9

I've written some Java code that builds an XDP file that is then used to populate the data in a PDF which is received from a server.<br /><br />The generated XDP file opens up correctly in Acrobat 7 with the data populated. But when I try to open the same XDP file using Acrobat 9 or Reader 9 the PDF opens without the data from the XDP file. We have this working in both 7 and 9 when we use FDF but our preference would be to use XDP since the XML formatting works with some of our other tools.<br /><br />Is there a reason that FDF would work but XDP would not in Acrobat 9?<br /><br />A sample of some contents that are failing for me (this sample is not pointing to a PDF on a server but the results are the same for a locally stored PDF)<br /><br /><?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?><br /><?xfa generator='AdobeDesigner_V7.0' APIVersion='2.2.4333.0'?><br /><xdp:xdp xmlns:xdp='http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/'><br />     <xfa:datasets xmlns:xfa='http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/'><br />          <xfa:data><br />               <test><br />                    <Title>Homer</Title><br />                    <text2>testing</text2><br />               </test><br />          </xfa:data><br />     </xfa:datasets><br /><pdf  href="file:///C:/PDFTest/quick.pdf" xmlns='http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/pdf/' /><br /></xdp:xdp><br /><br />Is there something I'm missing here? Is this behavior expected?<br /><br />Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />Thanks

    Thanks for the info Leonard.
I'm not sure I understand "stand-alone app". Are you saying to drag the PDF to the browser? How do I get the data in XDP to then merge with it?
The problem is that the XDP, when using href to load PDF from web server, will always open up in default browser. No way around that. Unfortunately, the PDF can only be loaded this way - it won't be sitting on the desktop with the XDP.
Right now, our web-based application on the server is dynamically generating the XDP based on a selected source PDF template, then sending the XDP to the client. The goal is to allow client to open XDP, which requests the PDF through href and merges the data to template - and client can then make changes (if needed) and save it as PDF from there. A one-step approach as it were.
Bascially, is above workflow no longer viable with Acrobat 9? Could you elaborate about the fix as it would apply to above workflow?
    Thanks.

  • Stitching/mergigng of xdps using document builder when fragments have been used in xdps.

    Hi,
I am trying to merge xdps using document builder in LiveCycle workbench. Basiclly I am using the option "Dynamic stitching" in document builder to merge more then one xdps. So I am able to do it when my xdps are not having any fragments.
But I am not able to get the merged xdp when fragments are there in my xdps.
    It is throwing some error.
It says "XFA dynamic assembler failed to stitch a fragment".
So can I specify the fragment path while merging these xdps.
Please let me know the inputs on this. Or is there any other way to merge xdps which are having fragments.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ashish

One probable reason is that the individual XDPs have incorrect fragment references. Have you checked out
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/521/cpsid_52158.html
Any subtle mistakes in the path like a folder name specified twice in the path (as it was programmatically generated?), or an extra forward slash, etc.?
Did you try to render these XDP forms (with fragments) individually using LiveCycle process orchestration/API?

  • Merging data with LiveCycle questions

I have LiveCycle Designer 8.0 and I didn't find a forum for it so just point me in the right direction if this is not the place.
I have a couple of questions with merging data with Livecycle PDFS
    1. XDP is the file format for merging data with LiveCycle created PDFs (FDF was with Acrobat)? if not, what is the format?
    2. We want different colors of the same PDF without actually making the different PDFS, is there a way we can do this through the merging the data?  For example: In the XDP file, we specify the color of the border of a rectangle.  When the PDF merges with the data, will the PDF be able to change the border of the rectangle with the specified color?
    3. Can a picture (a specific size) be merged in the PDF?
    Thanks!

    1. XDP is the file format for merging data with LiveCycle created PDFs (FDF was with Acrobat)? if not, what is the format?
An XDP file is simply an XML file that packages a PDF file in XML, along with XML form and template data. Data can be merged from generic .xml or the XML version of FDF called XFDF.
    2. We want different colors of the same PDF without actually making the different PDFS, is there a way we can do this through the merging the data?  For example: In the XDP file, we specify the color of the border of a rectangle.  When the PDF merges with the data, will the PDF be able to change the border of the rectangle with the specified color?
Yes. Consider a field called 'firstName'. I can add a script to the form:ready event that checks the value of the data merged with the field and changes the border edge color to red if the data is not equal to 'Steve'.
    // customer.page1.firstName::ready:form - (JavaScript, client)
    if (this.rawValue != "Steve") {
         this.border.edge.color.value = "255,0,0";
    3. Can a picture (a specific size) be merged in the PDF?
    Yes.
    Steve

  • Xdp data not populated in PDF form

    Dear All,
We currently develop XFA forms using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8 (as part of acrobat professional). recently when clients upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.1 or 9.2, when they open an XDP file, the PDF appears without any data population as if the pdf was opened without the xdp file. when creating the form there is no option of target version however the forms are saved as Acrobat 8 Dynamic Forms. Do you know what could be the problem. The same is hapening with fdf data which when you open, the PDF opens without population as well. Help is appreciated Thanks.

I tried that first (without the save), but the resulting PDF had no form data from the XDP.  That's when I added the save.
The merging seems to fail when run from batch, but it works fine when I open and then save the file in Acrobat Pro or Reader.
Is there a command in the batch processing that is necessary to move the data from the XDP to the resulting PDF?  Will the proper Save command do the trick?  [I left work early due to our snow so I can't try this myself.]
