XFDesktop not running, FAILED TO CONNECT TO SESSION MANAGER [SOLVED]

Hi all, new to the arch forums, I've recently installed arch with xfce4, and I've been having trouble changing the desktop background as the GUI for it will flash up then close instantly. I tried to reload xfdesktop with xfdesktop --reload, this returns "xfdesktop is not running". Running $ sudo xfdesktop returns:
(xfdesktop:5211): GLib-WARNING **: (gerror.c:381):g_error_new_valist: runtime check failed: (domain != 0)
Failed to connect to session manager: Failed to connect to the session manager: SESSION_MANAGER environment variable not defined
xfdesktop: cairo-scaled-font.c:459: _cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion `!scaled_font->cache_frozen' failed.
Also, when I look in xfce4-session-settings, all xfce applications are running but xfdesktop isn't there.
Thanks in advance

Prepending sudo to random commands will eventually break your system.  Don't do it.
In this case it simply prevents it from working as the session manager is running for your user not for the root user, so this command has nothing to connect to.  Remove 'sudo'.
If I run just $ xfdesktop I then get the same error
(xfdesktop:2166): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_get_uint: assertion 'G_VALUE_HOLDS_UINT (value)' failed
xfdesktop: cairo-scaled-font.c:459: _cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion `!scaled_font->cache_frozen' failed.

If you already have IIS web server running, you need to run the LabVIEW web server on a different port to avoid conflicts. It probably won't start because the port 80 is already in use.
Check options.."Web Server: Configuration" within LabVIEW.

I understand that 0x800706BA is RPC server unavailable, but I don't know how to fix it. I have done the following:
Ensured the SCCM server account is a local admin on the remote server
Ensured the Fire Wall service is not running on remote server
Tested with wmimgmt.msc and wbemtest, which worked fine.
Telneted on port 135 from site to server, which worked fine.
    IIS is installed, basic authentication...
I am at a loss. Any ideas?
    Ashley!

    Hi Ashley,
You can use Network Monitor and run it on the remote DP at the time ConfigMgr is attempting to install the DP role to capture more information on what may be causing the issue.
Here is the download link to NetMon -

  • Server not starting - Failed to Connect to hostname/3201

    Hi,
The Sneak Preview Version was working fine.. All of a sudden the server is not starting up.. It is throwing up the following error in the server0 log default.trc
##0#0#Error#1#/System/Server#Plain###Encomi: failed to connect to ganni/3201(Connection refused: connect)#
What is this server 3201.. How can i fix this issue..
    Thanks,
    Ganesh

    Hi,
I assume you are talking about the ABAP Stack:
3201 is a port number, normally used on the ABAP Stack for dialog with SAP-Gui. 01 should be your system number. Did you change anything in the services File or any other configuration?
There should be an entry look like this:
    File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    sapdp01          3201/tcp
Possible reason: Port is allocated, Changed User credentials?

  • Hamachi not launching, failed to connect to engine, error 1053, tried EVERYTHING

Please read before suggesting doing things I've already tried. So here's what's happening with my Hamachi, When I try to get it booted up, I get an error that says, "failed to connect to engine".So I went into services, made sure the "Allow services to interact with Desktop" option under the Logon tab in the Properties was unchecked. After that I tried to start the tunneling engine manually from there.I recieved an error 1053 message, "the service did respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" After reading this I checked the registry, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/LogMeIn Hamachi and made sure the EngineConfigDir folder was there, and had to add it in as it was missing.  After having done all of this I tried to start Hamachi once again, and kept getting the same errors all over again.  What do I do??? I'm seriously desperate to get this up and running, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong.

The run solution was the only one that worked for me! :) If it does this again I might just try to un-install and install again. Catasstrophy wrote:

I've just installed the 9iAS. Everything went well but I can't seem to connect to Disc Viewer or Plus. I have it installed on a test machine but I can't remember what I did, if anything, to get things started.
    Thanks.

There are a few things you can check regarding this class of errors.
If you are an Oracle Metalink member, you can refer to Tech Note #139346.1 - What To Do If You Cannot Login With Discoverer 3i Or 4i.
Otherwise, the best place to start is the Configuration Guide. On a Windows platform, you can locate this from the Start Menu - Programs -> Oracle Discoverer Server 4i -> Configuration Guide. Chapter 2 will take you through the process of checking that the Discoverer Service is up and running, and that your session is configured properly and started.

  • Mail not receiving - failing to connect on Port 0 (should be using 110 ??)

    Hi Apple,
    Would you please help?
Mac Mail has ceased receiving email on my machine.
The last time Mail on my iMac received email was Wednesday, Nov 7, 2007.
My home setup has a DSL modem feeding a firewall (Astaro Version 6), which feeds a hub.
The hub feeds two boxes. One is my iMac running OS X 10.4.10 (Intel) running Mail (Version 2.1.1 (752.3)). The other is a home-brew Windows XP box.
For over a year, until Wednesday, I got all my email through Mail on the iMac.
Since Wednesday, nothing - no mail.
I've done a bit of troubleshooting; here's what I've found out.
When i run Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Advanced it tells me I'm using Port 110.
When I run Mail -> Window -:> Mail Connection Doctor it tells me "Connection and login to server succeeded" for both my incoming and outgoing email servers.
But when I run Macintosh HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Console, and then go back to Mail and click on "Get Mail", then go back to Console to see what happened, a new error message shows up telling me that it tried to use Port 0 (rather than 110) and failed. At the same time, no email shows up in the Mail Inbox. None since Wednesday.
And yes, I've tried restarting the iMac. No joy.
(Port 0? Why port 0? Why not Port 110??). Anyway ...
So in desperation, i went over to the Windows XP box (the one hanging off the same hub, remember?).
On the Windows XP box I get all my email, just fine.
So the iMac Mail problem is occurring somewhere this side of the hub, even though the Mail software claims to be set up correctly.
Apple, your Support web page directed me to this Forum.
    Please help!
P.S. Here's the full error message from Console:
    2007-11-10 09:56:57.201 Mail[657] -[POP3Connection fetchMessages:] failed: NSError "The connection to the server "incoming.verizon.net" on port 0 timed out." Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=60 UserInfo={

    }

    Hi David and Shari2345,
I spoke with Apple Support at length today, and they solved the problem.
David, I hadn't realized that AppleCare also applied to software - I'd thought it was for hardware only.
The answer to the problem, in my case, was that I had been sent one (or several) files with very large attachments, and their presence in the input queue caused a problem for Mail. Once those emails were gone, Mail started working again just fine.
Specifically, the Apple tech, today, asked me if I had any form of web access to my email account.
I do, so I used that to look at the incoming email queue.
On the day that Mail had stopped working (back on the 7th), someone had sent me one email with an 8-Meg attachment and one with a 2-meg attachment. Someone else had also sent one with a half-meg attachment. I didn't recognize the senders of these emails, so i deleted all three emails from the queue (still using the web email interface).
That fixed the problem. Bingo - the log jam was unstuck, and Mail began to receive all my outstanding email.
    It's working fine, now.
Shari2345, give the same process a try, if you also have web email access.
Thanks for your help, David. It felt pretty lonesome there, before you replied!
    Shari2345, I hope this helps.
And thank you, very much, Apple Support.

  • SLD fails to connect to Solution Manager

I am trying to populate SMSY with information from my SLD.  The SLD appears to be setup properly as I am able to view all of my systems directly within the SLD.  However, when I try to view the information in SMSY, The system cannot find anything.
I have configured RZ70, SMSY_SETUP, and SLDAPICUST and have performed numerous SLDCHECK's.  I found one error to be with the password in SLDAPICUST as has been mentioned in many threads, however, this only works temporarily.  I am still having to unlock user SLDAPIUSER randomly.  (It is random).  I have checked and reset all my passwords with no luck.
I have looked through all the Solution Manager and SLD manuals I could find and there seems to be very little information regarding the connection of the SLD to Solution Manager (Via SMSY).  Could someone please help me.  I have been struggling with this for a few weeks now and still nothing appears in SMSY.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    hi,
    problem still unsolved?
maybe any 6.40-systems in your landscape? in these ones you have to input in TAC SLDAPICUST the characters in your password uppercase - because of case-sensitivity...

This looks strange to me because I am connecting to a wireless network that has a WEP hex key, and nothing in my configuration suggests any WPA key. I even tried rm-ing all of the *.conf files in /etc/wicd/ to no avail. Thank heavens for netcfg, or I think Arch Linux would have just blown my network stack again, the way the net-tools "upgrade" did
Does anyone have any tips on how to solve this?
P.S. Maybe it would be good to have some testing process for future updates affecting network connectivity? If this were my only computer I would totally have been dead in the water with the net-tools update. It took a sizable amount of time and effort to find out I needed to bootstrap the hostname command. For a while, before I figured to check the wicd logs, I was considering just dropping Arch Linux. Breaking the internet is just about the worst because you leave people with broken systems and no way to look up how to fix them.

Sorry, but I don't think that thread applies here. That thread is dealing with the net-tools upgrade, and the missing hostname utility. I fixed that, dhcpcd works just fine. My problem is that after the wicd update, it tries to use WPA to connect to a network that I have specified as using WEP, so it fails to authenticate.

  • Remote manager is not running but it is running as per DC

I have installed remote manager on windows 2008 R2 server recently to create exchange mail boxes. And I followed the instructions given in oracle documentation while installing this remote manager.
Windows 2008 server R2 is a 64 bit OS so installed 64 bit java version in it. OIM version is 9.1.0.
As we are trying to SSL connection to the remote machince, imported certificates on both OIM server and also on remote machine.
But when I try to provision exchange account for a user, the creation of mail box is getting failed at the task "CheckRemoteManager Connection" saying "Remote manager is not running". But in design console it says that the remote manager is running.
Here is the response from the task:
Response: Exchange remote manager not running
Response Description: Check if Remote Manager parameters are entered correctly
When I bypass the task "checkRemoterManager Connection" in the adatper "Create mail box" then I am getting the below error.
Response: error during JRMP connection establishment; nested exception is: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeExcept
    Response Description: Unknown response received
    Error Details:
Setting task status... "error during JRMP connection establishment; nested exception is: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeExcept" does not correspond to a known Response Code. Using "UNKNOWN".
Can you please let me know what might be the problem?
    Here is the log.

Have you followed all the steps properly ?
Have you imported Certificate as mentioned in the document ?
Try with restarting the OIM Server
Make sure your RM is running
Try to telnet RM from OIM machine.
    Check xlconfig.xml file

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 will not run after installing update 2720211

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211
The update was installed and server rebooted.  Now the WSUS console on Server 2008 SP2 will not run.  "Error: Connection Error.  An error occurred trying to connect to WSUS server."
The update service and IIS are both running.
When checking for updates from clients, they  show a message saying their update software needs to be upgraded, but they fail updating.
I was going to uninstall the update, but there is no option to uninstall the update from the WSUS server.
What are options to fix this?

This page helped alot. Let me recap for others on the interwebs.
    Cause:
    - Applied KB2720211 to a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server thats running on Windows 2008 64 bit server with local SQL db.
    What happened:
    - I could no longer sync my WSUS server with the interwebs.
    - clients could still connect to WSUS and I could still open the WSUS console.
    - Uninstalled WSUS, left DB and downloads and reinstalled WSUS in attempt to fix broken syncing.
    - Clients could now no longer sync with WSUS server. (They got Windows Update error code 800B0001).
    Solution:
    - Googled, found this page.
    - Followed just these last few steps that Chucker2 posted.
Extract necessary files from 2720211 installer
Download the KB2720211 installer for your architecture from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211)
Extract WUSSetup.msp from the installer by running the installer with the /extract parameter (example: "WSUS-KB2720211-x64.exe /extract")
    With 7-zip, open WUSSetup.msp and extract "PCW_CAB_SUS".
With 7-zip, open "PCW_CAB_SUS" and extract "DbCert", "DbCertDll", and "DbCertSql".
Rename those files to "WSUSSignDb.cer", "WSUSSignDb.dll", and "WSUSSignDb.sql", respectively.
On your WSUS server, navigate to "C:\Windows\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\SchemaSig" and copy the extracted "WSUSSignDb.cer" and "WSUSSignDb.dll" to it. Make a backup copy of the two existing versions, just in case.
On your WSUS server, navigate to "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Database" and copy the extracted "WSUSSignDb.sql" to it. Make a backup copy of any existing versions of the file.
    Reinstalled 2720211
PROBLEM FIXED AND CLIENTS COULD ALL SYNCH AGAIN.
    Thanks Chucker 2.
ps. Susan Bradley stop polluting every WSUS post on the interwebs with your constant links to WSUS KB2720211 : Common issues
encountered and how to fix them
this is the best solution. after reboot the problem is solved .
