Xinerama on solaris 10 using Xsun

One quick question that I cannot seem to find an adequate answer for by the 'man' or through google. How do I make changes to the /etc/dt/config/Xservers file stick? After a reboot the file is reset.
" BEST TO NOT EDIT /usr/dt/config/Xservers directly.
# /usr/dt/config/Xservers is a factory-default file and will
# be unconditionally overwritten upon subsequent installation.
# Before making changes to the file, should copy it to the configuration
# directory, /etc/dt/config."
does not clear it up.
Also, I fought forever trying to get the Xserver entry to work properly with Xinerama so I figured I would put that in here so others in my boat may not have the same problem.
For Xinerama on a solaris 10 sparc system (using two elite3d m6s on a SB1000) put this beast in the /etc/dt/config/Xservers file (all one line). Modify top bottom left right as needed and point the /dev/fbs/afbX statements to the actual cards in your machine. something like /dev/fb0 and /dev/fb1 should work. That :0 before the +xinerama statement appears to be a show stopper if it is missing.
:0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/X :0 -nobanner +xinerama -dev /dev/fbs/afb0 top defdepth 24 defclass TrueColor -dev /dev/fbs/afb1 bottom defdepth 24 defclass TrueColor

  • Ldap client in Solaris  using TLS

    I have installed an OpenLap server (version 2.2.13-2) in a Red Hat ES 4.
    My LDAP clients are
    - Linux (redhat and mandriva)
    - Solaris 8 (with the last recommended path and 10893-62 path for ldapv2)
    - Tru64 (5.1B)
    If a use simple authentification all works fine (search in LDAP,
    authentification and automount).
    However, when I use TLS the Solaris LDAP client doesn't seem to work.
    When I run the LDAP client the process freeze
    With my Linux and Tru64 clients all work fine using LS.
    I have downloaded the certificates from my LDAP server using Netscape browser.
    I have copied cert7.db and key3.db in the "/var/ldap/directory" with a
    "chmod 644" in this files.
    I can do a "ldapsearch -x -ZZ objectclass=*" and this returns data.
    The last logs of the ldap_cachemgr are:

    I have launched ethereal so see network communications with my Solaris 8 client and the LDAP server.
    And with this configuration the Solaris box only communicates with the LDAP server using LDAP port 389 and not LDAPS port 636.
    I have done the same test with a linux and tru64 box and they use LDAPS port 636 to communicate with my LDAP server.
    Does anyone have an idea on getting Solaris using TLS/SSL?
    Thanks.

  • Compile occi under solaris using g++/gcc problem

    Hi Expert:
    I got some link error when i tried to compile a demo occi code under solaris using g++. Please share experience.
    Thanks.

    Namespaces are not supported in -compat=4 mode. The only effect of -features=namespace is to recognize "namespace" as a keyword, and disallow it as an identifier. You don't actually get namespace semantics.
    The pupose of -compat=4 is to allow code written for C++ 4.x to compile and run until the code can be updated to conform to the C++ Standard. If you want to use features from the C++ standard, like namespaces, you must use Sun C++ in the default standard mode.
    If you remove -compat=4, the code compiles and links. If you need to use -compat=4 mode, remove uses of namespace, and fix the code to remove name conflicts.
    BTW, we recommend against using -features=bool in -compat=4 mode. It can cause odd behavior when part of the code expects boolean expressions to have type int and part of the code expects bool to be a different type.
    It appears you are using C++ 5.0, a product that has been obsolete for several years and which is no longer supported. You should consider updating to Sun Studio 11 (C++ 5.8), at no cost.

  • Solaris 9: Xsun process using over 47% of CPU

    Anyone else having this problem?
    The /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun process is consistently using over 47% of the CPU
    on a Sun Fire V240 running Solaris 9. This system was just built last week
    with all recommended patches. In the past 24 hours it has accumulated 1341:35
    of execution time according to ps. It is now up to 1350:08 in the time it took me
    to finish this message.

    I had a similar problem with my v240 with my XVR-100 frame buffer, and was told that there is an incident that is not closed in a security patch for this, and that the work around was as follows:
    mkdir /etc/dt/config
    cp /usr/dt/config/Xconfig /etc/dt/config
    cp /usr/dt/config/Xsetup /etc/dt/config
    add "/usr/openwin/bin/xset -fbpm" to the end of /etc/dt/config/Xsetup
    edit /etc/dt/config/Xconfig and change
    Dtlogin*setup: Xsetup
    to
    Dtlogin*setup: /etc/dt/config/Xsetup

  • How to execute an application in Solaris using Runtime.getRuntime.exec() ?

    I am currently doing a project which requires the execution of Solaris applications through the use of Java Servlet with this Runtime method - Runtime.getRuntime.exec()
    This means that if the client PC tries to access the servlet in the server PC, an application is supposed to be executed and launched on the server PC itself. Actually, the servlet part is not an issue as the main problem is the executing of applications in different platforms which is a big headache.
    When I tried running this program on a Windows 2000 machine, it works perfectly fine. However, when I tried it on a Solaris machine, nothing happens. And I mean nothing... no errors, no nothing. I really don't know what's wrong.
    Here's the code.
    public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
         throws ServletException, IOException
         response.setContentType("text/html");
         PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
              Process process;                                                       Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
              String com= "sh /opt/home/acrobat/";
              String program = request.getParameter("program");
              try
                        process = runtime.exec(com);
              catch (Exception e)
                   out.println(e);
    It works under Windows when com = "c:\winnt\system32\notepad.exe"
    When under Solaris, I have tried everything possible. For example, the launching of the application acrobat.
    com = "/opt/home/acrobat"
    com = "sh /opt/home/acrobat"I have also tried reading in the process and then printing it out. It doesn't work either. It only works when excuting commands like 'ls'
    BufferedReader read = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream()));Why is it such a breeze to execute prgrams under Windows while there are so many problems under Solaris.
    Can some experts please please PLEASE point out the errors and give me some advice and help to make this program work under Solaris! Please... I really need to do this!!
    My email address - [email protected]
    I appreciate it.
    By the way, I'm coding and compiling in a Windows 2000 machine before ftp'ing the .class file to the Solaris server machine to run.

    it is possible that you are trying to run a program that is going to display a window on an X server, but you have not specified a display. You specifiy a display by setting the DISPLAY environment variable eg.
    setenv DISPLAY 10.0.0.1:0
    To check that runtime.exec is working you should try to run a program that does not reqire access to an X Server. Try something like
    cmd = "sh -c 'ls -l > ~/testlist.lst'";
    alternatively try this
    cmd = "sh -c 'export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0;xterm '"
    you will also need to permit access to the X server using the xhost + command

  • Connecting to SQL Server from Solaris using Perl & Oracle.

    Hey All,
    Using the DBI.pm provided by the default Perl package that comes integrated with Oracle server, I am being able to connect to the Oracle database through Perl.
    But is there a way I can connect to SQL Server through Perl using any package provided by Oracle like ODBC or something else (on Solaris)
    I am using following version of Oracle server on Solaris 10
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
    TIA
    Parag

    The problem is I cannot install any third party package but I found something. Have a look at this:
    bash-3.00$ pwd
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.4.0/perl/lib/site_perl/5.8.3/sun4-solaris-thread-multi/Win32
    bash-3.00$ ls -l
    total 10
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 oracle dba 4532 Jul 7 2004 DBIODBC.pm
    bash-3.00$
    Will explore more and keep you all posted.

  • Solaris using wrong IRQ with iprb

    P4 machine, intergrated Intel i815/82559 controller.
    Installed Solaris 8 2/02, and applied most recent recommended patch cluster.
    iprb0 is not able to communicate with anything on the network. snoop shows arp packets going out, but nothing comming in. Interrupt Specifications:
    Interrupt Priority=0x6 (ipl 6), vector=0xb (11)

    So if I turn off the APIC, how does the machine respond?
    Let me give an example. I have a Tyan x86 system on Sol8. The chipset is Intel 7501 so it has an advanced APIC system. It also has a 7209 U320 SCSI controller. This should give better disk I/O with an U320 disk than the older U160 controller but where the older system took 45 seconds to write a 2 Gig file of zeros, the newer system took 15 minutes. So I turned of the IOAPIC and Extended IOAPIC in the BIOS. Now the disk test gives 30 seconds instead of 15 minutes. So far so good.
    The sytems are used as application servers and are not disk bound (either NIC or CPU bound). They currently run OK with either BIOS setting. However, the load with the APIC enabled is under 1 with 'top' showing the application taking 15% of the CPU and the system 5%. With the APIC disabled, the application takes 50% of the CPU and the system takes 3%. I haven't done any comparative load testing (what is the max load in each configuration) because I can't. All 'load testing' is done extreeeeemely carefully in production and a load test environment is not even contemplated much less defined.
    So any informed guesses as to what is going on would be appreciated. Is the CPU now handling all the interrupts that the IOAPIC system formerly took care of hence the increased load? But vmstat shows system interrupts are down from 15K to 5K with IOAPIC disabled. Could use a little help in figuring out if this is a good change or not. Suggestions for tests to run also cheerfully accepted.

    Yes, I came across that. All i have to say is thank god it had no answers for me. What a complicated nightmare. • Attempting to deploy an application on iAS 6.0 sp3 on solaris using the iASDT; CLASSPATH and GUID question.

    When I attempted to use iasdeploy deploymodule, it copied the file to <iAS install>/ias/JAR directory. But if I try and jar tvf test.war, the jar throws an exception. It looks like the file gets corrupted. Any suggestions?
    So a began to use the iASDT tool to assemble and deploy a webapp (war) on solaris. Everytime I add a jar it says that there are external dependencies. I think thier may be some type of name collision on the CLASSPATH. I am attempting to include:
    jaxp.jar, xerces.jar, log4j.jar, jaxp.jar, jaas.jar, and some other jars. I think the classes in these files may be on the CLASSPATH already. Is there a way to see the classpath of the server? I have looked in the registry under ApplicationServer/6.0/...but there doesn't seem to be a java entry. I looked inside the kjs script and that really doesn't indicate anything either. I saw the directories /opt/iplanet/ias6/ias/classes/java and /opt/iplanet/ias6/ias/java/jars contain jar files. Are these on the classpath? Is there any documentation of the origins and versions of things that are on the classpath (xerces.jar, xalan.jar, ldapjdk.jar, etc.)
    Additionally, I thought all I really needed was to get a guid to put it into the ias DD xml files, but when I launch ./kguidgen I get the following response:
    guidgen: Could not get arp for <hostname>
    guidgen: Could not get arp for <hostname>
    Several attempts to create GUID failed
    Any ideas on this one I am stumped?

    Hi,
    Please correct me if I'm wrong in understanding your problem. You have a test.war file and you are trying to add a .jar file to it and deploy the application (using command line & GUI tool), and this is where you have a trouble of external dependencies. So you think that this is a problem of GUID, so you are trying to obtain a GUID number manually, but the utility throws "Could not get arp..." error.
    If this is the problem, then let us check first, if the application server is registered using the iASAT. Next, please give a try of deploying the .jar file initally & try to access it, then, undeploy the .jar file and deploy the .war file and access it. Next, remove the .war file and try to build a .ear file using both the .war & .ear files. Please let me know if this helps for me to investigate further on this.
    Regards
    Raj

    Has anyone had experience of connecting from Oracle 9i (release 2) on Windows 2000 to Reality 9 on unix?
    I cannot get this to work as it hangs at login stage according to the trace file. On the same 2000 server, I have a fully functioning connection to a Reality 9 database on NT. Both the unix and NT connection through reality DSN/ODBC work fine outside of Oracle.
    The Solaris server has Gateways on it but we have been tracing heavily on this box and can't see anything obvious.
    HELP!

    Mark,
    This could be caused by incorrect logon credentials.
    Please pay attention to the 'CREATE DATABASE LINK' statement for the 'CONNECT TO ... IDENTIFIED BY' clause. If the ODBC trace ends with SQLDriverConnect then it is most likely that something is wrong with the logon credentials used in the database link.

  • Problem install Solaris using Ranish PM

    Hi,
    I posted a question a while back but nobody seems interested in it. So, I'm posting it again with a different subject.
    I'm trying to install triple-boot: Windows, Fedora, and Solaris. I had all the partition structure worked out perfectly, and have Windows and Fedora installed fine.
    I'm now supposed to use Ranish PM to convert the FAT32 to Solaris Parition so that it won't create x86 boot when it installs. However, Ranish PM requires a floppy disk to copy the Boot Manager over for the whole thing to works (even though I don't need this). Anyone knows any way around this that it won't ask for a floppy disk? since my laptop doesn't have one. In the mean time, I can't change other driver letter to immitate the floppy disk driver (A:).
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    -van.

    I already bought the zip driv ~ 130$, and so don't wan to spend more on some floppy drive.
    And the borrowing/begging option isn't possible since I know no body in this new place of mine.
    And I can't "steal".... out of the question.
    Any other suggestion more related to the Ranish PM or some other similar software that helps convert FAT32 to Solaris parition? I know Partition Magic doesn't even recognize Solaris partition since I have one.
