XMII and Multiple Thin Clients

Hi,
I am thinking of deploying multiple thin clients, each accessing a single xMII instance and am posting a general "broad" question.  Although probably not an "xMII" related thread, but any others using xMII content on thin client(s)?
Any issues or pointers or suggestions or "not to do's" with content / java script / applets / performance / refresh?
Thanks all,  Rgds Kevin.

A thin client is essentially a Web Browser, right? Or are you looking @ something else as well?
Just to add , this is from the MII help - "The following section provides a visual overview of the various applets provided with SAP xMII.  By combining and linking these building blocks, incredibly powerful decision support applications that bridge a variety of disparate data sources can be quickly created and deployed on thin client platforms such as Web browser, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or other Web-aware mobile devices and internet appliances".
Help me understand if you have anything specific in mind when you say 'thin clients'.

  • Database connection encryption and integrity with ColdFusion and Oracle thin client

    As ColdFusion datasource we are using the Oracle thin client to  connect with the database. So, basically we are using a JDBC URL such as  jdbc:oracle:thin:@... and as Driver Class oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver. This works successfully however we would like to set encryption and  integrity parameters as well. In Java this is done similarly by setting a  Properties object prior to getting a connection as follows:
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.put("oracle.net.encryption_client", "REQUIRED");
    prop.put("oracle.net.encryption_types_client", "( DES40 )");
    prop.put("oracle.net.crypto_checksum_client", "REQUESTED");
    prop.put("oracle.net.crypto_checksum_types_client", "( MD5 )");
    OracleDataSource ods = new OracleDataSource();
    ods.setProperties(prop);
    ods.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:main");
    Connection conn = ods.getConnection();
    Is there a way that I can pass these parameters to the ColdFusion  datasource. Ideally, I would love to do this centrally in such way that a  change to all the cfquery or cfstoredproc is not needed.
    I also know that in application servers such as Oracle AS there is an  option when creating a datasource which says "Add Properties". In there  you can add such properties. So, I was thinking of maybe creating a  JNDI DS in the app. server and then magically connecting to it but this  may have some impacts on the app.
    Besides this I was also thinking of communicating with the CF  datasource through the CF admin API (cfide.adminapi.administrator) and  also the option of extending the Oracle driver so that when CF connects  with it these params are already set.
    I would love to have your professional opinion and suggestions on this.

    I believe the thin driver actually needs the IP address (not the DNS name). Also, is "java" the name of the Oracle instance to which you are trying to connect?
    Try the following:String driver = "jdbc:oracle:thin";
    String dbIP = "W2RZ1NXG01's IP address";
    String dbPort = "1530";
    String dbSid = "java";
    String dbUser = "Admin";
    String dbPswd = "apassword";
    String cnctStr = driver + ":@" + dbIP + ":" + port + ":" + dbSid;
    try
        Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
        con = DriverManager.getConnection( cnctStr, dbUser, dbPswd );
        stmt = con.createStatement();
        stmt.executeUpdate(createString);
        stmt.close();
        con.close();
    catch(SQLException ex)
        System.err.println( "The following SQLException occurred: " + ex );
        System.err.println( "Message: " + ex.getMessage() );

    Hello All,

    Do you mean that I need to get to get a connection directly to thedatabase using
    the Thin driver instead of getting the connection via the pool?Yes, this is the first option. Note that with using thin driver directly
    you loose all advantages of using weblogic JDBC subsystem like
    transactions, connection pooling and caching of prepeared statements.
    I'd go with a stored procedure.

  • OracelAS Report services, Thin Client and JBoss

    Dear all:
    I have to run my oracle reports using Jboss. What I understand is this that I need to have Oracle AS, and oracle Thin Client to accomplish this. Please tell me from where I can find Oracle thin Client on oracle website.
    My second question is this that I have installed Oracle AS but the opmn.xml file has no <ias-component > for report server, please tell me why it is not there...
    I would be grateful for ur help

    I have installed the Oracle AS and the reports services... I have also installed the Stand Alone J2EE Thin Client (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/examples/Tools/index.html)
    My current web project uses JBoss and I have to show oracle reports keeping the current environment.
    I have followed the steps provided on the doc mentioned in the above link.
    first i did the following steps ( please refer to the text of that readme doc below)
    (//text of readme doc, I have done these steps
    1. Deploy THINCLIENT_HOME/reports/j2ee/reports.ear on the J2EE application server.
    2. Add the following JAR files to the classpath of the J2EE application server:
    * THINCLIENT_HOME/reports/jlib/rwrun.jar
    * THINCLIENT_HOME/jlib/zrclient.jar
    3. Use THINCLIENT_HOME/vbroker4/lib/vbjboot.jar while starting the application server.
    but i cannot understand what is written just next to the above llines in that doc I am pasting those points from that doc
    (text of readme doc:
    The following section provides detailed instructions on carrying out the above 3 configuration steps with OC4J Standalone Distribution 10g (9.0.4). You need to consult your J2EE application server's documentation to carry out the same steps for your application server.
    1. Add the following to OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/server.xml
    <application name="reports" path="<THINCLIENT_HOME>/reports/j2ee/reports.ear" auto-start="true" />
    2. Add the following to OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/http-web-site.xml
    <web-app application="reports" name="web" root="/reports"/>
    3. Add the following to OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/application.xml
    <library path="<THINCLIENT_HOME>/reports/jlib/rwrun.jar"/>
    <library path="<THINCLIENT_HOME>/jlib/zrclient.jar"/>
    according to what i understood i went to OC4J which is under my Oracle_Infra directory and then completed the above steps
    after that I ran the command (according to this doc):
    java -Xbootclasspath/p:<THINCLIENT_HOME>/vbroker4/lib/vbjboot.jar -jar oc4j.jar
    the result of this command is following
    06/02/09 14:57:37 Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.0.0) initialized
    and then it never comes back to command prompt
    Now after all these steps...i don't understand what to do next and my problem is still there which is How to deploy reports made by oracle reports from my web project links

  • T5325 Thin Clients losing remote desktop connection

    My company just bought about 50 of these thin clients and they are setup to run an automatic remote desktop connection. I have the connection setup to auto start when the thin client is powered on and it just brings the user to a windows login screen. After they have logged in and leave their thin client to go on break sometimes it just brings them to a blank screen with an HP logo and the thin client has to be restarted to get back into the remote desktop, or I have to go into admin and restart the RDP connection. Any idea why this is happening? Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?
    Any help would be great!

    We are having this same issue and it is maddening.  I have contacted HP on several occasions and I don't know if it is the language barrier or simple ignorance, but so far the issue is ongoing.  I have looked high and low on the net and no one seems to be able to tell me why this is happening despite a number of plausible theories.  We have a couple hundred terminals throughout the company which are spread across three servers none of which are close to congested yet..  However, the 10 or so t5325's we have are used specifically for digital signage.  They run automated sessions that launch animated JAVA windows.  They run great for the most part, but seemingly at random they will freeze in their tracks.  The sessions drop from our terminal server and cannot be restarted remotely.  After the units are power cycled they come back up directly and begin their sessions again.  You can shadow these units (VNC) and the moment the display come on the unit closes the RDP session and reopens the same and start running again, odd behavior.  I have tried changing session logout timers, disabling / enabling TCP settings, creating client-side refresh scripts, restarting the sessions at regular intervals via admin script, flashing BIOS and ThinPro OS to the current level, voodoo rituals, and pagan sacrifice.  Yet, they still behave in exactly the same manner with no actions on my part having any apparent affect..  Currently, I am of the mind to purchase small all-in-one pc's to do the job.  If anyone knows of any way to fix this PLEASE respond to this post.

  • THICK CLIENTS & THIN CLIENTS

    Can any body please tell me in detail what is the difference between a Thick client and a Thin client. Also tell me using either of these in specific occassions.

    And it's normally called a 'Rich Client' not 'Thick Client'.No, "rich client" is a newer developer.
    s/developer/development/I think it's more than a when Sales/Marketing people wanted to promote thin client solutions (during the fashionable thin 90's) they used devisive language of (Thick/Fat) against the alternative traditional Client Server solutions even though these could be Rich or Thin. I remember when Applets where considered thin, then it had to be Web-Pages to be really Thin and now that things have gone full circle with the introduction of things like AJAX and WebStart they use the old^Wnew terminology, or Rich Clients to distance it from the negitive associations of Thick and Fat.
    To me, fashions come and go but they will always be Thin or Rich :)

    Hi Prashant,
    Did you resolve this?
    It sounds like the EJB was not deployed with the webservice.
    Were you able to call the service using the OC4J test harness? This will tell you if the service is correctly deployed - with the underlying implementation classes etc. Take the service endpoint URL from the WSDL file and put in a browser (with your AS running)

  • Thin clients, labs, and applications

    We have thin clients in some labs and have a specific virtual desktop load specific for that lab.  The issue;  students do NOT have to log into the network and we want to change this.
    Our issue:
    We have 10 licenses for an application in a lab.  The virtual desktop has this application for 10 computers within the specific lab.
    If we have students log onto the network, they will have to option of selecting which virtual desktop to open (multiple courses taken by the student, multiple labs = multiple virtual desktops)
    If a student logs in from the library, they will see all the virtual desktops as well and could use one of the 10 mentioned above, thus using up one of the virtual desktop application licenses.
    This leaves one student in the lab not able to connect.
    Question:
    Is there a way to either limit what the student can select based on location/IP address or is there another way to make sure that virtual desktop is only used within that lab?
    I have been told that virtual desktops are user based and therefore cannot be altered in this way...so, checking here.
    TIA,
    --cdburns

    We have a similar requirement, as we are replacing physical labs with VDI zero and thin clients and want them to behave similarly.  Our physical lab environment had different software setups for different locations (Geology, Audiology, Nursing, etc.).  We have locked down access to the VDI environment (the broker) from on-campus only, and the majority of our zero and thin clients are setup to auto-login to a specific pool - getting rid of the areas where students can select which pool to log into.
    There is one exception where we had to be more harsh because of compliance reasons.  We could only let students log into a specific lab pool if they were using specific thin/zero clients.  You've already mentioned our solution to this as we used VLANs to restrict this access.  The VMs in the pool resides in a VLAN that only allows the PCoIP protocol access from another VLAN where the authorized zero/thin clients reside.  While authorized students would be able to see the pool selection if presented on their own or unrestricted device - they wouldn't be able to fully take control as the PCoIP connection wouldn't work.
    Another option is to use the broker labels.  We abandoned this option as it didn't seem to be scalable and we'd have to potentially setup multiple broker servers in order to accomplish this.
    I'm waiting for vmware to come out with a better solution.  You'd expect there to be a desire to restrict access to various pools based on the client endpoint or location.

  • LabVIEW license for terminal servers and thin clients (e.g. LTSP)

    Does NI plan to provide a license agreement for terminal servers and thin
    clients?
    I've been told to purchase a multi-seat license. That doesn't make much
    sense since the thin clients won't be accessing DAQ hardware. They're
    just used for developing the LV source.
    Comments/suggestions?

    Yes, this is a very good point. Quite a unique situation when compared to
    text based languages. Keep in mind I certainly don't mind paying for that
    but I see no need to pay for much of the other features - like running it.
    This is certainly one of the other features you pay for with LV. Since
    we never plan to run the app on the thin client, why pay for that
    feature?
    What we do is crank out source code on the thin clients. We then send the
    source code to this wireless mobile DAQ station running WindowsXP. From
    there we can roll it up to our clients' target systems. That machine is
    used for debugging then compilin
    g so it has its own LV Prof Dev license
    installed on it. Also, it can be operated locally or remotely via remote
    desktop (one user at a time).
    I know it may sound strange but it works great. And as the NI Software
    License Agreement(NISLA) specifies, we have separate licenses on all
    machines that load LV into local memory. The thin clients load nothing
    into local memory, hence no need for a separate license.
    > I express myself clearly in the hope of guidance. I am a one man shop
    Yes, this is understandable. Installing one license on multiple machines
    is a big no-no. However, that is not what I'm trying to do. Take a peek
    at the "Grant of License" and "Single Seat License" sections of the NISLA.
    > You say "That doesn't make much sense since ..." One of my clients has a
    Ha! How about this scenario: As wireless hardware (bluetooth, wifi)
    becomes more common, perhaps NI will have a peer scanner on all PCs with
    LV installed. That way if you get within 100 feet of a P
    C with the same
    LV serial number, you get locked out and it sends a small message to the
    NI batcave.
    Thanks for the response. I'm hoping NI chimes in soon.

  • What files do I need to download iPhone photos to a thin client (HP)? Apple Mobile Support gives 4 dll files to enable the iPhone to be detected and charged but the thin client doesn't see the camera or hard drive.

    The iTunes Installation files include 4 driver dlls that I can install on a Windows thin client to enable the iPhone to be charged.
    The iPhone hard drive or photos are not detected.  I guess I need scanner driver support to cope with the camera.
    Can anyone tell me which files from the iTune installation set are needed.
    It is not practical (or even possible?) to install the whole iTunes package.
    I've seen this question asked by a lot of people but never seen an answer.
    Please, can someone help...

    Thanks for the reply.
    A thin client is used to connect to a Terminal Server, or in my customer's case, a Citrix Server.  I need the thin client to see the iPhone as a camera and pass it to the Citrix Client so the photos can THEN be either stored on a network storage device, or e-mailed.
    Because the thin client doesn't even SEE a camera (i.e. the iPhone) it won't be able to connect to iCloud to do anything useful.
    I think the question I should be asking, is how do I give the thin client Camera Support.
    I've just seen a 2008 forum comment that said the iPhone DOESN'T handle photos through iTunes, but the PC (Scanner support) or MAC (iPhoto) handles them directly.  I should be putting the question to HP.
    This is still a good place for THIS question, because I've seen so many iPhone users asking it...
    If I get a satisfactory answer I'll post it back here.

  • HP t510 Thin Client and USB Printer Redirectiion

    We have HP t510 thin clients connecting to server side XenCenter and running Windows 7 virtual sessions hosted on the server. We are trying to connect a USB lablewriter printer to one of the thin clients. On the t510 device, XEN Connection General Settings Manager/Local Resources/Local Device Redirection is selected for Printers/Printer Mapping. Also on the t510 device under Peripherals/USB Manager, Protocol/All USB is set to Citrix and Devices has the USB printer selected/checked and set to Redirect.
    We have also tried within the assigned Windows session, a registry key has been created under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\GenericUSB\Devices, using both a generic redirect for all usb printers as well as device specific using the VID and PID hardware information of the printer.
    When we have booted into the Windows session and have installed the USB drivers/printing software and physically conencted the usb printer, it is not being recognized by Windows at all. Device Manager is not showing any unknown devices or anything.
    Has anyone seen this same issue? Is there an easy workaround? Will there need to be a hardware policy written in XENCenter?

    We are developing a application where we require to communicate with 2 different ?Webogic Servers? running different versions.
    First server is ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? and the other is ?Weblogic 8.1?. We use Weblogic thin client jars to connect to these servers. Protocol used to connect to ?Weblogic 8.1? is t3 and for ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? its t3s. But the obvious problem is that both thin client can not be used simultaneously in the same class-path. Whichever jar file appears first in the class-path, classes will be loaded from that jar. This is causing breakage in our application. If we put ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? thin client jar first in the path, our application throws exception while connecting to ?Weblogic 8.1? and if we put ?Weblogic 8.1? jar first the path, ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? won?t connect. The thin-client isn't supported on 6.1, I'm not sure what you are doing.

Is there a workaround to handle this problem. We have admin level access to Weblogic 8.1 which mean we can change the configuration here if required but we have only user level access to ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? and can?t do any modification in server config.
    Exceptions:
    Case 1: ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? thin client jar first in class-path.
    Result : connects successfully with ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7?.
         throws following exception while connecting to ?Weblogic 8.1?.

  • Diff between Thin client and Rich client

    Hi Everyone,
              Can someone give me a clear picture of the what is the diff between Thin client and Rich client.
    Thanks,
    Krishna

    Hi,
    thick client (rich client) has/stores all the data inside itself
    so it can do application processing without the server with data
    thin client uses resources from host computer (from server)
    and wihtout that you are not able to work with that kind of client
    does that answer your question ?
    Regards,
    michal
