Yahoo.ca search has taken over FF31 on my Win7 homePro stand alone - how do I get rid rid of Yahoo? it is not a toolbar & doesn't show in search dropdown

Yahoo.ca showed up as the result for any search I do in Google - starting about 48 hrs ago. I've searched everywhere I can think of & tried control panel but to no avail.
I'm using FF31 & Google - not sure of there is a google version.
The PC is standalone & uses Win 7 Home Pro (64bit I think) as OS
Every time I search for anything the results list come up as a Yahoo.ca page
I want nothing to do w/ Yahoo anything; The fact someone has imbedded this in/on my PC smacks of theft, B&E and invasion of privacy in my mind. I definitely NEVER enable or authorise additional or parralel downloads when I upgrade a product version
THX - Looking forward to be "Yahoo"-less soon

Uninstall the "ConnectBar" extension, you may have to reset [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries keyword.URL] in your '''about:config''' afterwards or change to a value you prefer for [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location bar searches].
The extension is not at Addons, it may have been obtained from an [http://www.facebook.com/pages/ConnectBar/156184567774985 advertisement] on Facebook.

  • AVG/Yahoo Search has taken over my new tab, how can I reset it?

I opened Firefox today and my "new tab" is suddenly AVG/Yahoo Search. I'm the only person who uses this computer and I never OK'd it. I normally have it either at a blank tab or the website thumbnails. There is a button ON the search page that says you can disable it and it'll be back to normal when you restart Firefox. That didn't work, seems to be a lie. I've tried about:config, didn't work. I tried resetting Firefox through default reset, didn't work. I tried disabling AVG search through add-ons, didn't work. I'm not a computer whiz but I'm not a novice either, I'm usually able to figure these things out and have done so in the past but this is not going away. It certainly makes me distrust AVG if it's weaseling things in beyond my approval, and it's making me annoyed with Firefox and I'm wanting to switch to Chrome. Please let me know how I can fix this. Thanks.

Hi franontheedge, when you revert to a restore point, you may roll back your Firefox further than desired, for example, losing recently added bookmarks or saved passwords. It might be preferable to clean out the unwanted software by hand. If you have 10 minutes...
    I suggest:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program (or for XP Add/Remove Programs). After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (3) With the above removed, you can update your home page if it's not already back to normal. These articles have more details on how:

  • Conduit search has taken over my address bar.

If I type anything into the address bar, links to bing searches for websites come up. If I make an error in the address, I am sent to bing.
Virus scan finds no issues. Ad-aware puts a Win32 file in quarantine, but it doesn't have an impact on the address bar issue. I have NO add ons, toolbars, or winzip software on my computer.
I followed the directions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/919624 and my problem was resolved for a few days, now it is back. I haven't downloaded anything new but my computer ran two automatic updates.

Do you display the built-in Firefox search bar? Generally speaking the address bar follows your selection there. By default, the selection is Google (you'll see the lower-case g on a blue square).
To reset your search providers back to their defaults (i.e., Google), you also can use this extension as a one-step solution:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
And just in case you didn't explore all the categories on the Add-ons page -- which you can access using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
-- make sure to click Extensions in the left column to check for any "Community Toolbar" add-ons which generally are created by Conduit.
    Any improvement?

I can't seem to get rid of avg secure search can you help

    Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • INBOX has taken over Mozilla homepage when I open Firefox. How do I delete it?

I was browsing for a map of Berlin and opened a site. I closed it when it didn't provide the information free.
Now when I open Firefox, I get their homepage INBOX.
I tried closing down the computer and restarting, but this does not work.
How can I delete INBOX as the default browser and restore Firefox as the browser when I click its icon in the dock.
    I have an iMac OS X 10.6.8.

Firefox can open multiple home pages. They are separated with the "|" keyboard character. Easiest way to set multiple home pages:
#open only the pages you want to be set as home pages
    #go to Options > General
#set "When Firefox starts" to "Show my home page"
    #click "Use current pages"

  • A search engine called DynaSearch has taken over fire fox without my permission

I think My brother has attacked my computer, he found my note book and i now have 160 spam when I had only about ten before, and even an xxx dating service used my daughters name to make me click to their site, saying," Sheila has a message for you". Since then fire fox started crashing every ten minutes, and now it's not crashing because a site called DynaSearch has taking over the usual Google trademark that used to apesr on my page, this is a search engine that has taken over Fire Fox without my permission correct. How do I get Fire Fox back, and get them off.

  • How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over home page?

Search.US.com has taken over my hone page and everything else it can. I have tried all the suggestions available to me by the help section. I have went so far as to delete cookies. This is very invasive. I looked at restoring the system but have few options for recovery points and they don't include the search engine download. I removed the add on it came with as well. I had removed the search engine in add/remove programs and was stupid when it asked if I wanted the default settings restored. I said no. I'm afraid I am j pretty stupid when it comes to software. I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time in this matter. ps I put what I thought was relevant in the bottom box. I had not seen this before. I tried to modify it but couldn't.

I finally got a hold of someone at that search us.com. They gave me this link to try and solve the problem. I have already reinstalled firefox but it might help someone else out. And it's much simpler. I haven't tried it but they said to get a hold of them if it didn't work. the link is:
Running ResetBrowsers.exe from http://support.search.us.com/uninstall.php should restore your settings to their defaults
Hope I'm not misusing this post. Thanks again for all your help. Your are all awesome.

  • Last time I updated firefox Yahoo has taken over. I hate yahoo and would like to remove it is that possible?

when I uploaded the new version of firefox yahoo has taken over. It over rides everything and I want to remove it is that possible to keep firefox but remove yahoo?
When I put a address in the address bar yahoo over rides it and it goes to a yahoo page.

    Hi All,
Have just sorted this problem. Do the following:
type into your address bar> about:config
this will bring up the usual warning that it might void your warrantee. Click> I'll be careful I promise.
in the filter bar at the top enter "Yahoo" without the quotes.
At the bottom of the list ther'll be a string named "Keyword.url. Right click on this and select reset.
While your in there if you like you can right click on any of the yahoo lines and select modify. Once once the box opens replace Yahoo by overtyping Google.
Close the tab and that should cure the problem.
    All the best
    Mick

  • I recently updated Firefox and something called Fantistic Games has taken over my homepage and I can't get rid of it.

I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".

This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
    # At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
    # In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
    # Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
    # Click the remove button.
    # Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

  • Bing has taken over all my Browsers

When I click on Mozilla, Explore, or any browser it always start with BING instead of google even though google is set as my home start up page. I can't figure out how to get rid of this. Can I uninstall Bing to make it go away? I'm running Windows 8.1
    Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
    # Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and choose Add-ons.

EDIT: Also right click on shortcuts for your browsers and select Properties, check the Target line under the Shortcuts tab to make sure that your shortcuts aren't being forced to open Bing.

  • Genieo has taken over!

http://search.genieo.com has taken over as my default search engine, even though I set my default in Safari as Google. I even quit the browser to make sure it wasn't a reset problem.
I am ****** and feel violated - I never even heard of genieo. Any suggestions?

It sounds as if you have the genieo / installmac  adware / trojan installed :
Backup first, then carefully follow :
    Adware Removal Guide : Genieo
    or
You installed the "Genieo" search-hijacking rootkit.
I suggest that you don't trust the uninstaller that the company provide, since it doesn't work properly & leaves active software behind. Genieo seem unable or unwilling to resolve that, so perhaps they continue to receive some benefit from it.
