You can force refresh pacman database: pacman -Syy.  This should get rid of the problem.

  • [SOLVED] Yaourt issue - query's dependency (yajl) not installing

First off, I'm fairly new to Arch, but with the assistance of the Beginner's Guide I managed to get a running, beautiful, simple system. Now...
I've been trying to install yaourt, but it has a dependency (query) which ALSO has a dependency (yajl). I've tried downloading a tarball of yajl and installing it that way, and I've tried using the PKGBUILD file, but query still says that it isn't installed. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong, but any relevant input is welcome. Thanks, guys!
Last edited by InfernalDante (2011-05-27 11:36:45)

    Thanks for the speedy response.
I tried using the -s switch with query; yajl installed with no issues, as did query (or so the terminal said), but when I tried the same switch with yaourt, it gave me this:
    [dante@monster yaourt]$ makepkg -s
    ==> Making package: yaourt 0.10.1-2 (Thu May 26 21:29:05 PDT 2011)
    ==> Checking runtime dependencies...
    ==> Installing missing dependencies...
    error: target not found: package-query>=0.7
==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies.
    Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Missed your edit. I'll try that now and report back when I do.
Ah! I got it working. Thank you very much!

  • Yaourt issue,please! ---[RESOLVED]

    HI,ALL
my yaourt-git is normal as user. but when add following line
    PacmanBin /usr/bin/powerpill
    in /etc/yaourtrc,then
    100%[==========================================>] 374,627 214K/s in 1.7s

error: no write permissions to any of the following cache directories:

I want to launch yaourt  by powerpill as  non-root user, what should I do ? thanks for reply.
Last edited by smileoa (2010-01-22 02:46:01)

Not that I have tried it, but the obvious solution would be to try to change ownership and permissions of /var/cache/pacman/pkg to something along the lines of this:
    groupadd pacadmin
    chown -R root:pacadmin /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    chmod -R g+rw /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    chmod g+s /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    gpasswd -a smileoa pacadmin
Log out and then log in again to get the new group membership.
Pacman most likely includes some sort of UID check of its own and that may be more difficult to bypass. I haven't fiddled much with pacman myself (hey, it has always worked for me!).

It seems your sync database got messed up somehow, especially based on your other post with issues doing a pacman -Syu. I suspect the advice to run pacman -Syy (or yaourt -Syy) should fix this problem as well.

  • [solved] sudo and yaourt problems after recent updates

After recent updates (past week) yaourt started giving me problems. When using yaourt it prompts me for sudo password but it does not seem to use my sudo configuration.
    I get this:
    [sudo] password for root:
    [sudo] password for root:
    Password:
    su: Authentication failure
    Password:
When entering mine or root's password I just get prompt again. The last password is for su, which when I enter root's works.
It seems sudo is not using /etc/sudoers configuration either, as I have things like insults enabled and it used to work previously.
    Any reason for this?
    sudo works fine otherwise.

  • [Solved] Building package not possible due to big size - what to do?

    Hello community,
I'm the maintainer of the speed-dreams-svn package (mainly for people that want to do some testing with SD's current SVN version, for everybody else the community package is better fitting).  Unfortunately, the SVN tree is really huge in this case. I observed that after "make" the /tmp folder already eats up 6,7GB and should get even bigger when makepkg calls "make install". But I never came to this point, because my swap got full and my system froze... So I wonder whether there is any way to avoid this problem or the package should just be removed from AUR due to impracticability.
    Thanks for any hint,
    PhotonX

PhotonX wrote:This is true, but since this issue is only present in this specific package I cannot expect the users to care about the strange path configuration, I suppose...
This is Arch. Users can be expected to deal with configuration files themselves when the need arises. I suggest that you simply add a message to the build function warning the user of the required size.
Besides, this is a yaourt issue as vanilla makepkg does not use /tmp by default. You should not add nasty hacks to PKGBUILDs to enable unofficial AUR helpers to manage edge cases.

  • Implications of new 'source' in pacman.conf

I apologize in advance for what seems to be a very basic and FAQ-ish question.
I've always wanted to know, what are the implications of adding new sources
to my pacman.conf (or in the case of Ubuntu/Debian, the /etc/apt/sources.list file?)
Let's say that you put some joker's site in your pacman.conf file, and they put
a malicious FOO version 2 software in their repository.
When I run pacman -Syu, does pacman say "Well, software FOO is at version 1 in
the official Arch repos, but it's at version 2 in Joker's repository, what do you want to do?"
Sorry for the basic question, but often think that if I was trying to proliferate some keylogger or
other malware, what I would do is write some good software FOO, or act as a mirror for some good software FOO,
and then provide updates for software BAR, and have BAR be a new version of some core-software
that takes data from your keyboard and forwards it to my e-mail account.
Is my question/concern valid, or am I totally off track?  I recently thought about this when adding
a repository to my pacman.conf file so that I could get updates for the yaourt application.  I'm not
accusing the author of yaourt of anything at all, and think the product is great.  But I just want to know if
the author of yaourt issues an update to "readline", if Arch will accept this update as a valid update the next time
    I run pacman -Syu?
Thanks very much, and links/RTFMs are appreciated.
    --Nate

In pacman.conf(8) (man pacman.conf), under "REPOSITORY SECTIONS":
    The order of repositories in the configuration files matters;
repositories listed first will take precedence over those listed later
in the file when packages in two repositories have identical names,
    regardless of version number.
I tested this with a local repo and it appears to work as documented; pacman didn't prompt me to upgrade 'bash' to the newer version I had put in my test repo which was below [core] in pacman.conf.

  • Pacman with root disabled

I am running a rootless system (passwd -l root) because I like the idea of not having a common username to attack. However, the new pacman/makepkg upgrade wants to me enter the root password in order to either make or install packages. I'm not sure which of the two causes the situation because it only really shows up when I do a yaourt -Syu --aur. Is there a way to make it work well with a system that doesn't have a working root user?

Yeah, it's a Yaourt issue, because it says there's a bug in the Kernel or something like that (there is an error that gives some information). So it needs to be run as root for installing binaries. So for now what I do is just using pacman for precompiled packages and yaourt for the PKGBUILDs (you don't need the root account for installing PKGBUILDs, at least not on my machine).
As for re-enabling the root account, I thought you hadn't sudo, that would have been an issue

  • [SOLVED] yaourt skype issues

    Hi all,
When I issued "pacman -Syu" it also upgraded skype from 2.0 to 2.1 beta. Sadly, skype doesn't work anymore.
Therefore I tried downgrading the package. I searched for the package and found it: http://arm.kh.nu/community/os/i686/skyp … pkg.tar.gz.
    I then did:
    yaourt skype-2.0.0.72-2.pkg.tar.gz
It installed without a problem, but when I input "skype" in my terminal, it gives me:
bash: /usr/bin/skype: No such file or directory
However, ls -al /usr/bin/skype gave me:
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13859316 2008-06-22 14:31 /usr/bin/skype
    What's wrong here?
    Thanks in advance!

Running 32 bit executable on 64bit is not just as simple. 32bit compiled binary will not work on x86_64 system without 32bit libs.
Thanks, I'll try that now, for some reason I overlooked the x86_64 package, while I was searching for it.

  • [Solved]Yaourt sync issue

I installed yaourt according to the instruction here http://archlinux.fr/yaourt-en
But when I run yaourt -Syu --devel --aur , I get an error: problem setting dbpath '//usr/local/var/lib/pacman/' (could not find or read directory)
The directory doesn't exist and pacman -v shows nothing related to that directory. What should I do?[]
Last edited by codetrick (2011-03-04 14:28:03)

I have the same problem. I get it when try to install 'package-query' and 'yaourt' from AUR, but i install it manually.
In INSTALL file of package-query I found interesting thing:
By default, `make install' installs the package's commands under
`/usr/local/bin', include files under `/usr/local/include', etc. You
can specify an installation prefix other than `/usr/local' by giving
`configure' the option `--prefix=PREFIX', where PREFIX must be an
    absolute file name.
I uninstall yaourt and package-query using pacman and delete /usr/local directory (the system is fresh and this directory is not important)
    Then i do
    ./configure --prefix=''
    sudo make install
With yaourt i have more problems... Iven if you delete "/usr/local" from Makefile you don't solve the problem.
I find all "/usr/local" substrings in files from yaourt.x.x.x.tar.gz with commands:
    tar -xzvf yaourt.x.x.x.tar.gz
    cd yaourt.x.x.x
    grep -RiHn 'usr/local/' *
    and manually delete them.
Then i make and install my yaourt. It worked.
Oh, i know that it is unnormal, but i can't find anything in internet and write it to others.
P.S. I may install yaourt with this instruction^ http://archlinux.fr/yaourt-en  (with pacman)

  • Radeon HD 8750m card issues

Hello, I've just transitioned to Arch linux for over a month now. Previously I've used Arch based Manjaro Linux, and other Gentoo based distros, etc.
I've had the same problem everywhere, and that is I've been unable to find a way to get my discrete radeon card working.
I have a Samsung series 5 notebook with dual hybrid switchable graphics with both an intel and a radeon card having dynamic power management options.
Previously, I've posted in Manjaro forum while I was using their distro. Althought it didn't solve my problem but I managed to find a way to turn off discrete card using acpi_call module.

I've read on Arch wiki somewhere about installing a custom package from AUR called catalyst-total-pxp, but I'm not sure that following through the steps listed on the wiki would be good enough to fix my issue or if it would create more problems. Right now I don't really have another backup computer to fall back on so that's another problem.
But I'm willing to comply to provide more information if need be and if you guys have a fix for similar issue let me know, I'm willing to dive in to get this fixed.
    Thanks.

Yes I understand, I don't have a problem downgrading...but what exactly are the steps that I should take to make sure it doesn't break anything.
I've updated pacman after the addition & when I try to install xorg115 this is what I get:
    pacman -S xorg115/xorg-server
    warning: downgrading package xorg-server (1.16.0-6 => 1.15.2-1)

If I keep on pressing y, more dependencies seem to show up...and it doesn't feel right.
Am I doin it right? Or is there a better way to go on about this.
    Thanks.

  • Problem installing android-sdk from AUR using yaourt

    Hi all,
I use yaourt to install packages from the AUR but I'm having an issue with android-sdk.
Whenever I run 'yaourt -S android-sdk' it seems to detect that the 'java-runtime' is not installed.
However, I do have sun's jre and jdk installed (I was having applet issues with openjdk) and it detects this when it actually starts installing it.
But it just reinstalls the package and quits without installing the android sdk. If I run yaourt again, the same thing happens.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be?
I could download the tar.gz from google but I'd rather keep everything handled by arch package management.

Is that a show stopper for yaourt?  I use aurbuild and did that install the other night.  It tripped over the java runtime and pitched a warning, but the build worked and it installed.

Even if you hand build the AUR in a directory of your choice, the resultant package is still integrated into your Arch system using the -U option of pacman.  Regadrless of the front end (Yaourt, aurbuild, or roll-your-own), pacman tracks the package as 'Foreign'.  FYI.
