  • How to get murrine dust theme to work? (new concept theme for ubuntu)

    hello!
i just want to try and install the new concept theme for ubuntu - DustTheme!
but i don't get it to work. it uses the murrine-engine - but when i want to select it via gtk-chtheme or gtk2_prefs it does not sets the colors or anything else. when i hit apply, the standard ugly gtk-theme will be selected.
anyone here who actually uses the theme?
    more information:
    DustTheme Ubuntu Wiki
    installed packages:
    gtk-engine-murrine 0.53.1
    also tried: gtk-engine-murrine-svn rev 94
    please help, thanks...
    bye iggy

Hrm, I'm not quite sure what you mean.  I don't see "profile" anywhere in the gtkrc - everything seems to be labeled as "style" already.

  • Yet  another Flash Player Problem for a newbie

Here is the situation. A friend took my PC and installed a couple of fans and installed AVG. I get the computer back and now when my kids go to web sites that need flash player they get a message that says you don't have flash player (even though I do have it installed). I uninstalled AVG, and adobe flash player and re started the computer. I then tried to re instal the flash player however nothing happens when I click the "agree and install" button.  I have windows XP IE8. After hours of looking through the web I did see a couple of articles that said some CPUs were having trouble with flash player after AVG was installed. Here is one  http://news.softpedia.com/news/AVG-Tags-Adobe-Flash-Player-as-Malware-97976.shtml Anyway considering all i did was have fans and AVG put on, it had to be AVG. What I don't undestand if I uninstalled AVG why am I still having this problem, Any help would be greatly appreciated (and thats a understatement!)

Hi, I was just getting ready to reply to your post here, when I saw the other one come in. Was going to ask you if you had
checked your websites to see if using the Removal tool made a difference. Well, that is good news. Glad that took care of it and you didn't have to remove AVG. The rule with Anti-Virus programs is whenever you change from one to another(not updating or upgrading with the same company) that you Download the new one to your Desktop. Then you can remove the old program from Add/Remove, run a removal tool if one is provided and then Install the new Anti-Virus program, and Reboot(always). Reboot after Uninstalling and Reboot after Installing, best policy.
Thanks for the feedback on your success and kind words and also for marking your thread as answered. Helps everyone.

P.S. Should you have any issues in the future, use this thread that you have started. A lot easier since your info is here.

  • New book themes for  '08?

Why doesn't Apple provide the new themes in 09 for 08? Does that mean they will print lower quality books just because I haven't upgraded? I cant see the printing method change just for books made in iPhoto '08. Can anyone explain this one to me?

Why doesn't Apple provide the new themes in 09 for 08?
Because they want you to upgrade. They see it as a way to encourage you to buy the new product.
Does that mean they will print lower quality books just because I haven't upgraded?
Not at all. The books will be of exactly the same quality, they'll just have different designs available.
I cant see the printing method change just for books made in iPhoto '08
    They won't.
Can anyone explain this one to me?
    Did I?

  • Yet ANOTHER New Problem - Can No Longer Upload an Image with 64 Bit IE9

I've been uploading images as part of forum posts successfully for weeks using IE9 64 bit, set for Compatibility View.
Suddenly, starting yesterday, using the little camera icon with IE9 64 bit, when I hit the [Browse] button, the entire IE window just disappears, losing the response in progress!
Doing the exact same thing in IE9 32 bit works, and brings up the dialog with which to select a file.  So now the workaround is that I must use the 32 bit IE to access this site.
Nothing is changing on this end.  No new Add-ons, no config changes.  Cache has been cleared to no avail.  Nothing appears in the Windows event logs.
Can you folks please try a little harder to settle this forum software down?  It's getting rather frustrating to have features just keep dropping out like this.

That is a browser preference, not a preference set by some site through HTML. If you are unable to get this configured properly you need to ask in a Microsoft IE forum.
    Thank you for your thoughts.
Your answer sounds authoritative, but just what preference would you say governs this behavior?  I don't believe there is one, at least not one that directly sets the IE default open folder behavior.  And I don't have my browser delete its cache or anything on the way out.
Your answer would seem reasonable but for the fact that the behavior I'm observing changed here recently - in the past week or so - without my having changed browser preferences.  Could a Windows Update have changed IE9?  Possibly, but I don't recall there being one specifically that coincided with this observed change.
No disrespect intended, but there's no reason to think the script driving the File Open dialog can't request a specific starting folder.  That's what I think has been changed here.
    Captiv8r wrote:
For me, the dialog simply opens to the last place I elected to open from. It stays that way until I choose to change it again.
What browser/version are you running?  Just curious.  And have you cleared your cache and checked with the current forum software?

  • New World Map for Apex services: Consultants, Developers, Hosting Services

As Matt suggested in this recent thread: " ApEx / HTML DB - are there actually any developers in the Marketplace (UK) " ApEx / HTML DB - are there actually any developers in the Marketplace (UK)
we might need an overview of available consultants, developers, hosting providers, available products and additional services.
Thus I have started a new group on Frappr: http://www.frappr.com/oracleapplicationexpressservices
Since each "service provider" (can also be a person) may fit into several of the described categories, I have chosen to provide only one category (marker).
We can use the shoutouts to make clear which service will be provided.
Please put yourself on the map!
    Cheers,

Maybe new users of APEX would like to join the map of APEX users?

  • Another new PC build for a hobbyist

Hi all, I've spent a couple of days searching around for recommendations on a new PC build and found a lot of good information on this forum. I'm replacing my home desktop, which is used for Premiere CS6 (family videos/enthusiast stuff - lately GoPro HD h.264 and some Canon 7D files) running on Windows 7 Pro x64. I'll be reusing some SATA drives but everything else is new. I realize that X79/i7-3930k provides far more performance, but mainly for budget reasons I think I'd prefer to stick with Ivy Bridge. Here's what I'm leaning towards:
CPU: Intel i7-3770k 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) Ivy Bridge
MB: Likely Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX
    RAM: Probably CORSAIR Vengeance LP DDR3 1600 16Gb (or 32Gb) 2x8Gb (or 4x8Gb)
PSU: SeaSonic X-Series 1050W 80 Plus Gold (only $10 more than the 850W so why not)
    CASE: Fractal Design Define R4
GPU: GTX 570 (likely this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127682)
    DRIVES
         OS: 256Gb SSD (Crucial M4/Plextor 830)
         Media/Projects: RAID-0 2x 1Tb HD (reuse from old system)
         Previews/Cache/Exports: 2Tb 7200rpm HD
Add in misc DVD+RW, CPU cooler, etc. This prices out to ~$1,300 (without HD's but including the SSD) which is ok, little cheaper would be ok but couple of hundred more is fine too. I'm mostly undecided on the GPU, wondering if a GTX 660 is worth the $70 more (1344 vs. 480 CUDA cores and 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 vs 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 for the GTX 660 vs GTX 570 respectively).
I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this build overall and suggestions on alternate components; thanks very much for all the information!

CPU - agree 3770K is a better choice as you have newer instruction sets, superior performance, lower power consumption and support for second generation of QuickSync offer hardware transcoding support.
Motherboard - The Deluxe is an outstanding board depending on how much you may really want the Marvell option you may want to consider the P8Z77-V Pro which also offers Thundebolt natively on the board. ( Although the Deluxe has a TB header in place for when the Thunderbolt EX expansion card is released ).
Additionally on both they offer a TPU switch which you can enable to have a easy 4.2 to 4.3GHz OC without any other interaction or adjustment.
CPU Cooler - I would advise something basic at least like a Hyper 212Plus or Hyper212 EVO. If you want to more cost effective the Hyper TX3 is very low cost and solid but not as effective at heat disipation.
PSU - Seasonic is excellent choice especially the X gold series very effiicent and the load performance is outstanding additionally generally any loads undder 25% will not have the fan spin at all helping to keep a very quiet system.
Chassis is a very solid option
GPU - I would consider  GTX660Ti or the new GTX660 considerbly superior power efficiecy as well as there is hardware 4K econder support while not active it is there waiting for software applications to support. Additionally you have superior multi monitor flexibility up to 4 displays and it is quieter and cooler. Lastly performance is superior. I would consider ASUS GTX660 or GTX660TI DirectCU II.
    SSD
Crucial drives have very solid firmware but write performance is not as strong ( this is relative overall a solid drive ). Depending on your write and read usage a different controller may make more sense. In this case you may want to consider a different SSD.
Corsair's new GS or GTX are very solid in the firmware development. If you will have a large amount of Incompressible data which includes certain types of TIF and PSD*, JPEG, video and sound files, ZIP files, etc. Then you may want to select a OCZ drive or a SSD based on a Marvell contrler or the new Corsair Neutron series. Those have the benefit of not taking a penelaty with incompressible data. With the overall price drops though on SSDs I would recommend 240GB especially as performance of the SSD will vary depending on capacity filled ( to a extent ). With that noted the Force GS and GTX which use SandForce have very strong performance for overall application usage.
Lastly depending on the maximum read and write speeds you may be better suite to use SSD Caching instead of the raid you are considering on the Marvell ports. Read speeds would be improved considerbly while writes would be stabilized but not overall extended
    Hope this helps!

  • Yet another new line formatting problemo guys :(

    Hi guys
I have a standard xml document. A few tags in the document include quite a lot of text. for e.g
    <ExampleTag>
    1 first line
    2 second line
    3 third line
    </ExampleTag>
Now when I convert this using xml spy(with an xslt transform template) into an html document, the html output looks like:
1 first line 2 second line 3 third line
As you can see the formatting is lost. How do I tackle this????
Should I check for '&#10' character and then replace it with </br> html style? and if so then how??
Also as the document is very large I just want to make the check for just one specific tag which would contain a lot of text.

How to replace newlines by <br> elements when using XSLT to produce HTML... that's got to be an FAQ. Here's an entry from the XSLT FAQ that shows how to do that sort of string replacement:

  • Yet another question about burners for iDVD 6

It's not my intention to be redundant and the question about which DVD burners are compatible with the most recent release of iDVD has been asked a few times since iLife '06 was released at MacWorld last week. Yet, though Apple has announced it, why have they not posted a list of compatible devices?
Or, is the onus on the manufacturers to certify that their burners are compatible with iDVD 6?
In either case, has anyone determined if this information is available and, if so, where?
    Thanks.

Or, is the onus on the manufacturers to certify that their burners are compatible with iDVD 6?
Check with the support sections of the manufacturer's websites - after all, THEY are the ones trying to sell burners.

  • How to install new themes for GDM?

    Hello guys,
where can I find the related directory to extract new GDM themes for Gnome 2.26?

Do I have to install gnome-system-tools to have this possibility?
Currently I only installed gnome and gnome-extra.
did you say 'yes' to all? i may be confusing the name of the entry, too. it's in the administrative tab in the menu (whatever it's called. 'system', maybe. usually the last one on the right) and it's usually something like 'login manager'. you might want to look at the menu editor and see if it's been somehow unchecked from the menu.

  • Where to download free themes?

    Hi,
Is there a web site to download free themes, for example a new DVD jacket theme?
    Thanks, Vlad

Londonman, you should post a new question.
As for free iDVD themes, there are not 150 free themes. The only reference I could find online was on Wikipedia, which allows anyone to make changes, (like me) and message boards with people talking about 150 free themes, several of which cite Wikipedia as a source.
I fixed the Wikipedia reference, it now states there are "many."
The themes are quite customizable; you can drag and drop pictures to replace backgrounds, change fonts, insert text, change music, all sorts of things. Look at the bare bones of a theme: how do the drop zones move, and what kind of special effects are built in. Just about everything else can be changed. That will give you infinite themes.
    Hope this helps!

  • Another BT engineer booked for tommorow afternoon.

hi, i have yet another engineer visit booked for tommorow afternoon, the combination of cold weather and the heavy winds weve been having have stirred up the intermitent fault that i have. One can only hope the engineer will discover the fault this time. I still have a kind of popping/static noise on my phone line also there is a kind of phone ringing noise but in static, the only problem is that its not constant and therefore theres more than a 90% chance that the engineer wont here it. We will see.

So , the ngineers been out, these were the worse pair of idiots ive ever seen lol, first, they didnt know what my faceplate was and told me i wasnt filtered, after arguing that the faceplate is the filter, they ran tests, never checked for the noise on my phone, cut out my cat6 cabling and replaced it with standard telephone cable, and swapped the drop wires round, only thing they succeeded in doing is making the upload speed worse, no change in anything else.Im having know more engineers.Im just waiting for fibre now, thats when the fun will really start because when i sync at 13meg or more i have no throughput.
