Yikes, I lose SoundBooth

I wasn't paying attention that Adobe got rid of one of my products in the "upgrade" I did to CS5.5.   Now I regret uninstlaling CS5, but I have always had major tech issues if I install multiple versions (for about a year, Illustrator opened and said it had to fix a problem, but never fixed it - was just annoying!)
So I upgrade my Production Premium and I lost SoundBooth - ack!   Ok, so I open Audition hoping it is as good, and I can't find "Make Louder" or "Normalize" - two functions I use maybe 30 times a day. Grumble.
I guess I will redownload the multi-GB install for CS5 just to get SB back...   still, I'm baffled why SB was removed and why Audition can't do the things it did... that sucks.

Yikes G4 400mhz cpu in a Beige G3 AIO L2 cache problems

Ok here is a wered one
i bought a Yikes G4 mobo and G4 400mhz cpu for $40. It shows up today i take out my orignal G3 266mhz cpu and i install the G4 and set all the jumpers to where is is at 400mhz 66mhz bus.
i held the cuda button for 20-30 seconds and powered up. the system seemed a bit slugish booting in to OS X so i waited and it finished booting i look in ASP it shows it as a G4 400mhz but no L2 cache i was like what gives. so i tryed booting into OS 9.2.2 it to was sluggish it got to the desk top where it froze so i did the 3 finger salute and tryed again. it froze on the desktop again in the same spot so i couldent get OS 9.2.2 booted.
i downloaded cpu dorector from powerlogics site or where ever it was and ran it it was showing the L2 cache but i didnt want to mess with any thing so i let it be it showed it as disabled in the cpu director prefrence pain . i dont know why the system dont see the L2 cache on the G4 cpu when it see's it on the G3.
i read that open firmware is the one that handles the L2 cache on startup to allow the system to see it and this is supost to automatcly hapen on boot when you reset the cuda
i dunno what to do i was hoping this cpu would work in this Beige G3 since its not one of the upgrade cpu's it is a cpu out of the yikes G4
is there any way to get the system to see the L2 cache like is does with the G3

im talking about booting in OS 9.2.2. looks like im stuck with the G3 266mhz cpu cause i put it back in not installing anything and it forze as soon as it went to the desktop i tryed cpu director but as soon as the ATI accelorator extention loads it lock's up when i made the CPU director extention load first.
if it loads in normal order it freezes on the cpu director extention. and sonnet wondt load cause its not there cpu. so im lost on this one. this Beige G3 AIO is stuck on stock cpu. well looks like the cpu will have to stay in the Yikes G4 mobo and i just build it up.
i dont know why the L2 cache is disabled for shouldent it work like any other cpu i mean cause almost all cpu's have L2 built on the chip why do i have to use software just to see it.
the only way it will boot into OS 9.2.2 is if i disable the ATI accelarator extention with or with out the cpu director

I tried to install latest OS update. Recd error installing. IT tried to load the upgrade in Safe Mode. Now system will not boot up. IT says I have to do a clean install which loses all data.

After receiving an error when I try to install the latest update of OS-X, I took my laptop to oour schools IT dept. They tried to run the update in safe mode and then they got an error saying the system could not find the hard drive. Now they want to run a clean install which loses 1000's of docs and pictures. I have Block I exams in med school next Monday and all of my notes and slides are on that hard drive.
The IT dept took the hard drive out and tried to back it up and they said they other computer could not connect or find my hard drive.
Major panic....
I have Norton antivirus and have never found any viruses on the system. I also have a program called ExamSoft which some other students here have noted they had similar crashes. Not sure if that is the issue...

Several take home messages here:
always back up before you update.
always back up anything you don't want to lose. Kind of like flossing. Only floss the teeth you don't want to lose.
Norton is very, very bad software, and you should get rid of it.
You don't need antivirus software on your mac. Antivirus software on macs causes more trouble than it is worth.
Your hard drive may be failing and thus may not be salvageable.
You could try booting into the recovery partition and seeing if you can repair your hard drive.
If that doesn't work, then there is a small chance that a third party utility (like Disk Warrior or TechTool) might be able to fix your drive (if it is not failing).
If that doesn't work, you may be able to send your drive and a lot of cash to a drive recovery service and see if they can get your files off it.
In the mean time, get notes and slides from a (smart) friend.

Thanks. The reason this has become an issue is that I recently bought a new Macbook Air that the iPad is not synced to. The one is was synced to was stolen. If I want to sync this iPad to the new Air, won't it be wiped before I'm able to copy these films or am I wrong about that?

How many times can you "Export - Quicktime movie" the same ProRes 422 file until it starts to lose quality?

Lets say you are done with your project & you want an uncompressed copy of it as your master. If you keep importing it back into Final Cut Pro, & keep exporting (Quicktime movie), will it ever start to lose quality?

I've never seen a number given, but would think it is very high.

I don't think I've ever seen degradation caused by recompression or multiple compassion, but as a workflow if you output a master file, then re-import it to add graphics and export that, you would only be 1 generation down from the master file. If you wanted to make multiple versions, you can always go back to, and re-import, the master file and make the changes, then export, so all you exports stay only 1 generation down from the master file.

I am using the big date calendar template in iPhoto. I am on Lion 10.7.2, macbook air. The names of the months are on each calendar page but something happens when I send the data to Apple. The names are part of the template. They are not text boxes. I lose two names on the calendar after it is sent to Apple. Apple suggested I make a pdf file of my calendar before sending it in and check to make sure every name shows. I did this with a calendar I just sent in. The calendar was correct. All names of the months were showing. After sending the data two month names disappeard because when it arrived by mail, it was incorrect. Apple looked at my calendar via a pdf file and it was incorrect. This is second time this has happened. I called Apple and they had me delete several folders in the Library folder, some preferences and do a complete reinstall of iPhoto. I have not yet remade the defective calendar. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Control-click on the background of the view all pages window and select "Preview Calendar" from the contextual menu.
You can also save the pdf as a file to compare to the printed calendar. If the two names are visible in the pdf file then the printed copy should show them. Contact Apple for a refund. Apple Print Products - Apple Store (U.S.)

Flash stops working and freezes firefox. I have Fast dial and dont want to lose it so what can I do to fix this?

It doesnt matter what site or what I am doing it will come up randomly and freeze firefox then finally a box pops up and says Flash is busy or not responding continue or stop plugin. Naturally I stop plugin. I always install the latest flash versions I have even uninstall and reinstalled flash and downgraded and still no change or it bugs me to update. I am using firefox 26.0 I usually stay away from the betas if all possible. My biggest worry with using the reset firefox or making a new profile is my fast dial I have tons of sites right there waiting for me to click on and im afraid if I do all this I will lose it. But I have used same profile for years and years so maybe its time. I will just have to redo my fast dial I guess Unless someone can come up with another way to do it. I have disabled hardware acceleration on firefox I have to it makes my browser do some weird things. I also have disabled Hardware acceleration in flash as well. I have cleant temp files and registry. I am good with computers but have never seen issues like this with flash. If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks.

Sounds like you have done a lot. Have you tried to make a new profile for TESTING purposes only? You could have a bad profile. it is possible.
Also, have you tried protect mode for flash? I wrote up a bat file to set it up so you don't have to go digging through system files.
Also i have some unorthodox methods you will not see in these forums to try out if you are interested as they have resolved several peoples that i can confirm issue. I have been going crash free for over 6 months now since i implemented. Believe me some issues nothing in these forums will resolve. Click on my name on the left there is a blog i created just for this issue with all the info and some of the fixes. Everything is fully automated. Very little user interaction.
This will NOT work for everyone, but you cant hurt by trying

HP LaserJet P1606dn loses their IP address in DHCP mode

Hi,
We are currently encountering what seems to us to be a strange behavior with the HP LaserJet P1606dn printer. The behavior is that, while in DHCP mode, when it goes into sleep mode, it loses its IP address.
It shouldn't be bad because it should wake up when something is sent to it and get back its IP address, but it doesn't. It get stuck in the printing queue and we need to do an "ipconfig/ flushdns" on the appropriate server so it get back its address. This is kinda annoying because we can't even desactivate this sleep mode function, the best we can do is put it to 1 hour which is temporary because it still gonna loses its IP address anyway.
I have searched all over the net for an answer to our problem and the closest one I have find is one on HP forum where the P1606dn loses its IP address in manual mode and switch to DHCP. Even though it wasn't our exact problem, the recommanded solution was to update the 1606dn firmware, which we did. It sadly hasn't solve our problem. At least, we aren't forced to do a flushdns everytime this time and we can force it to print by printing the configuration page...
An other thing we have found is that, it always or well, very often create a second entry in the inversed zone of the dns with an IP adress it won't even use... It is probably important to note that when the printers loses its ip address, the information of the ipv4, the dns and the rest of the address are all 0.0.0.0.
It seems to me that when the printers enters in sleep mode, it loses its ip address so it can save energy, which would be a good thing, but then, it cannot get back its ip address and well, its like the printers says to himself "well, I am lost and I don't know where I am neither at which address I live but hey, it's ok, everything is just fine."
Our configuration :
Windows 7 professional 64 bit on users end
Windows server 2008 r2 enterprise
The printer is connected in LAN
Anyone has stumbled accross a problem like this before with this model?

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
   This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
   first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here.
2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled. Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
   printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
   Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
4. If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Manual DNS server and
     8.8.4.4 preferred DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
5. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
6. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
7. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
8. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
   system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
9. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
   they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
10. SSID broadcast must be enabled.
11. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins. Power on router wait 2 mins.
12. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

I need to upgrade my Macbook Pro from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. Will I lose any files on my drive if I do that?

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.4.11. I am trying to upgrade from that to Snow Leopard then to 10.7.5. I know that I have to do it in steps. My question ins this. I have a Snow Leopard disk that came with my Imac that I can use to upgrade my laptop. When I go through the process, it says something about using Timeline to restore. Am I going to lose all of my files? All I need is for the OS to be updated. Will it be safe to go through with it or will I lose all of my files on the drive. Any answers to this question are much appreciated.

I recently broke my laptop and had to replace it. How can I back up the things on my iPhone before attempting to sync it so that I do not lose everything?

It wouldn't be such a huge deal if all of my music was from iTunes but I've gotten it from several different places and I really don't want to lose all of it. I'm not very techy so any help that's explained very thoroughly would be appreciated. Also I don't want to lose my texts or anything else I have on my phone right now. I've tried clicking the backup to this computer option on iTunes but when I tried to add a movie that I purchased on my laptop to my phone and sync it, it said that my phone was synced with another computer and it would erase my phone first. It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup to put everything on the new computer.

New hard drive - dont want to lose my webpage

Recently had to replace hard drive - lost everything - if you're reading this, pause 1 minute and back up all your pics and videos. Anyway, my webpage is still on .mac, but no info on iweb. Is there way to download from .mac back to iweb? I am worried if i create a new page within iweb and upload, i will then lose all my old pages - is that true? Is there a way to lock old page created and start over but not lose the old pages? thx for help, and if you didnt already backup your pics and videos!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately there is no way to import a published site back into iWeb. You will have to recreate it from scratch. Eclipse loses installed software after update. How to manage?

Whenever eclipse gets updated with `pacman -Syu` I lose all my installed software. As you can imagine, this is really annoying because when I start eclipse there are zombie buttons in the UI that no longer do anything because those plugins aren't installed anymore (at least not from eclipse's point of view). I'm assuming those buttons appear in the UI due to some eclipse-auto-generated configs that remain in my workspace. Is there a way to upgrade and *not* lose installed software? (I'm talking about software installed using update sites within eclipse)
EDIT: The only way that I know how to solve the problem is to remove the .metadata folder from my workspace then recreate my perspective layout from scratch, redo all my settings in preferences, and reinstall all the plugins I want. That's obviously not something I want to keep doing every time eclipse gets updated.
EDIT: After reinstalling Spring MVC plugins eclipse crashes after startup. I tried downgrading to the previous version of eclipse from pacman's cache, reinstalled Spring MVC, and now it's still crashing.

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

Ive been with Verizon wireless since May 2009 ...I could write book "1001 reasons to NOT have cell phone with from Verizon Wireless"...EVERYTHING that could possibly go wrong has...everything that could happen has happened...Ive had to get atleast 5 battery replacements first year because had to charge battery atleast 8 times day and battery only lasts year if you charge it once day....Ive had to get 4 new phones because of many problems dont want to list all details id have to write you book....Everything possible has gone wrong with my phone and service...and most of time im home taking care of my parents and 99% of time phone does not work when im inside my house...works fine during blizzard and hurricane when im outside in car in my driveway but 99 out of 100 times does not work in my house....i was told it was because of hill i lived on signal never reached my phone from cell tower ?? the cell tower is mile away and top of hill is atmost 10 feet higher than bottom of hill...and i live halfway up street...i was told had to buy a extender mini cell tower inside my house so phone would work and again even though i sat within 10 feet extender cell phone never got good signal ..only 1 or 2 bars...always dropped calls or some voicemail text or other problem all the time ?? At one point again skipping alot of details after buying extender and making payments monthly to pay for it and getting bettter phone and making payments monthly to pay for it after calling up about same problems week after week one of techs said they would write up ticket and have tech come out to my neighborhood and find out how to fix problem...and 6 weeks later i get call from Verizon saying tech was actually in my neighborhood and found out lotsa houses in my neighborhood were having same phone problems cause in area bad or weak signal and solution to problem is get extender !?!? This was after i had extender for year and 90% of time it was waiste of money and electricity...so i was told to get new one and they shipped it to me and worked little better for awhile then for atleast month straight it was like my phone did nothing but drop calls and not work...then i was told if i canceled my 2 year contract before 2 yrs was up id be fined $250...BUT after literally year of spending more time on my cell phone calling verizon to get it to work and paying over $100 month for unlimited service and feeling like i was flushing $80 of it down toilet cause all i was getting was very limitted service ...i was told if i wanted to cancel my account and go elsewhere i could and they wouldnt fine me cause its been over 3 years and i am NOT getting any value paying 100 month for phone that very rarely goes couple days without some kind of problem...this is very brief very short list of all thats gone on with my cell phone
If im having this much problems with verizon and there the best whats gonna happen if i go to another company they have less antenas and supposedly less coverage not as good ? So to encourage me to stay they swap my phone with biggest best model brand new phone and it was little better noticeably better in many ways BUT again im spending more time on phone with verizon trying to get my phone to work week with no interuptions than on phone with friends and family...you wouldnt believe how many times i called verizon and rep says to me you only used 400 minutes last month why pay so much more for unlimited...or you only texted x why pay for unlimited when its 10 dollars less for ...All ive done since July 2007 is take care of my parents 24 7 so its been blessing to have cell phone with me all time im at hospital or doctor with them but since most of time im home phone dont work its real curse...
Couple months ago i call T mobile and they said i could get new smartphone biggest best ..im not giving details on purpose i know my experience is nothing like many of you...and for this new amazing phone that just came out it would only cost me 50 month for phone and 70 month for unlimited phone text and data internet !!! Verizon was charging me 110 month for unlimited and 10 month for 1 gig data !! So i call Verizon and they tell me i can make payment arrangements and my monthly will decrease 30 month...and they will bill me monthly for phone i tell them i can only afford at most $150 month for phone and unlimited services and they said call after Dec 10 to set it up ...so this week i get several msgs via text and voice mail that if i dont pay for phone completely and my phone bill i will be disconnected and not have phone till i have zero balance !!! Im told because i live in MA they cant bill me...8 months ago MA passed bill saying illegal to set up payment arrangements...WHY wasnt i told this 2 months ago if i was i would NEVER have got phone from Verizon i would have went to T Mobile...I literally spent 3 hours on phone tonight trying to solve this problem...NOBODY was willing to help nothing they can do ALL I want to do is pay my bill make payments on phone and NOT lose my phone...only phone i have...i cant go anywhere with or without my parents without having phone ?

I would suggest backing up your iphone before doing anything. You can do that by right-clicking on the name of your iphone from the source list on the left side of itunes.

You can deauthorise all 5 at once, then reauthorize the one you want.
