Yosemite OSX & EOS

Hello, I recently upgraded my Macbook Air to Yosemite.  Now my EOS utility for my Canon Kiss X2 is not available and I know that I can go and download an update from the Canon site (selecting the one for the Mavericks OSX).  Here is the problem:  It asks for the Serial number of the camera - which is on the bottom of my camera printed in dark letters in the light colored box.  I enter the serial number and then I get the message that it isn't valid.  I am going to need to use my camera in the next few weeks, so really need to get the updated version.  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks to everyone in advance.

Nevermind, I figured it out - all is well.

I've cleaned up my hard drive and am running 8GB RAM with plenty of memory.  Also scanned the disk for errors etc.  No luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what's going wrong?
    Thanks.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I have the exact same problem, also running OS X Machericks 10.9.5 on a Mac Book Pro, would be really helpful to understand how to fix this error.

  • Iphoto 09 and yosemite osx

    I'm running maverick and iPhoto 09 (8.1.2 build 4.2.4). I have 2 photo libraries. (45GB and 28GB)
Thinking of upgrading to yosemite osx.
Tried to update the iPhoto to version 9.6 but it says "iPhoto can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because OS X version 10.10 or later is required."
    Question:
    - will my iPhoto version work if i just upgrade maverick to yosemite anyway? if it's not compatible, what do i need to do?
    - I might buy a new macbook and configure a fresh setup, probably install an iPhoto build 9.6 while awaiting the new photos app for yosemite next year. If i do this, can i import the photo libraries that i have into the new iPhoto build 9.6 app?

I want to be sure I understand, if I go ahead and successfully install Yosemite, I can THEN go and purchase this 9.6 version of iPhoto if I choose to and it will convert my photos?
    Yes.
I am also wondering about this new Photos app that will be out at some point and maybe I should just wait for that to be out before upgrading to Yosemite; I'm in no hurry, maybe then I won't have to pay for any upgrade to iPhoto at all?
I see a question mark but can't find a question there
If I backup & save my entire iPhoto library somewhere will I be able to import it elsewhere later?
Sorry that one is not clear to me. You should have a back up anyway. What do you mean by 'elsewhere'?
Or maybe I should just pick & choose what I want to save & store it all in Flickr or something like that? (I already have tons of these same photos in Dropbox)
    Maybe...

Returning to Mail Preferences - Junk Mail, in the section
    When junk mail arrives:
select mark as junk mail but leave it in my inbox
This should then give you the opportunity to mark it as Not Junk
and after several days it may improve.
I say 'may improve', based on my experience of when I upgraded to 10.5 a few years ago.  It took a while to learn what I kept insisting was not junk. It is a slow learner but it got there.
P.S. When you are satisfied it is identifying junk reasonably accurately, you can change the Preferences setting back to  'Move it to the Junk mail box'

  • How do I restore text erased from a .txt document, named and saved frequently, and on Yosemite OSX?

How do I restore text erased from a .txt document, named and saved frequently, and on Yosemite OSX?

    1. I have no reason to doubt it, the task is pretty simple.
    2. You should realise that these are not rewrites but progressions. PDF 1.7 adds just a little to PDF 1.6, and so on. Early versions of Acrobat would always update the version number to the latest version, whether or not they needed to do so. More recent versions have got smarter. Sounds as if XI is smarter still and is writing the version number actally needed rather than just the highest number it knows. People have strange ideas about PDF version numbers and sometimes want to do things like "open and save in the latest version" but this is not just useless but meaningless.
    3. In many cases the first line of the PDF contains the version number (but not the extension number), but this need not be accurate as a later piece of information (much later and harder to find) can override it.

  • Java update yosemite osx 10.10

    Hey Gang-
I'm having the dickens of a time finding the right update for this java thing.
I end up at the java sight and they have a billion different versions with
    different kinds of version even.
    Any help would be awesome.
I have Yosemite OSX version 10.10
    Thanks y'all.
    Trevor

It really depends on what you need it for (Apple seems to be discouraging use of Java as their systems progress).
If you're a Java developer, depending on what IDE you use, you'll probably need the legacy SE runtime available from Apple's site: Java for OS X 2014-001. This is for Java 1.6 only. If you require a later version, you can download Java from Oracle's website: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.h tml. The download you want is in the first table probably, for Mac OS X x64.
Let me know if that helps!

  • Help!  Yosemite OSX mystery...

I upgraded to Yosemite OSX and suddenly my Adobe Audition is nowhere to be found.  What is the solution for this?

uninstall if you can find and run the uninstaller, clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and reinstall.

  • Yosemite OSX crashes frequently

i just upgraded to Yosemite OS and it crashes frequently showing the screen of death with white background and many languages text.
This happens in different actions :
    when i plug hard disk
unplug a hard disk (knowing that i eject it safely)
    waking up the laptop
    switching between spaces
    connecting Android device
sometimes i crashes suddenly without any specific action
    Device information:
    Last update : Yosemite OS X 10.10.1
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
Any advice how to fix this or why it happens?
knowing that the OS X Mountain lion & OS X mavericks never crashed.

    Hi RV,
The famous 2010 MBP with that discrete Graphic Chipset. I have one of those as well, and if I want to test compatibility, I test it on that, not on one of the other Macs. If it runs on this, chances are better than 80% that it will run on the others.
Firstly you have to ensure that you have Backups. That means more than one very recently, made with different backup methodologies or programs like Carbon Copy Cloner, Time Machine or Super Duper.
Secondly, you have to ensure that your Mac is clean. And I mean very, very clean from crapware and malware. You can follow the manual steps as outlined here, or follow the AdwareMedic route. Thomas_r has written some very nice stuff on his site The Safe Mac which you can read. Follow the instructions specific to your Mac.
Thirdly, there is a nice utility which you can use to have some view/control over the automatic switching for your Mac, called gfxCardStatus. In another post I will deal with what is happening, in Engineering terms if you are interested. More important is a solution, or interim solution.
    Have fun

  • Updated to Yosemite OSX 10.10 - Dreamweaver CS6 demands Old Java 6!

When I updated to Yosemite  (OS X 10.10) on my Mac recently I found that Photoshop CS6 works without an issue. However, Dreamweaver CS6 does not. When you start it, the program demands that you load a legacy JAVA SE 6.  Is this right?  Why?
Java is already a very unstable and very insecure environment anyway. Experts all around the world are adamant about keeping it updated because they fix security issues almost every day.  Yosemite comes with the latest version of Java, so WHY would Adobe continue to mandate the install of an older, more insecure version of JAVA.
I know that you can fix the problem by installing the JAVA-2014-100 software, but that's NOT the point. Why wouldn't Adobe put a patch in to at least make it compatible with the current version?
Is there a way to run DW CS6 without installing the JAVA 6 legacy?
    Thanks!

Oracle's archive site is only place I know to get JAVA 6.
But please look into any security vulnerabilities as it is no longer getting updates.

  • Yosemite (OSX 10.10) upgrade stalled

I am trying to upgrade from Maverick to Yosemite on my Macbook Pro 15 with Retina display.  It is stalled for 6 hours.  Any recommendations appreciated.
    Thank You.

Also, the third-party 'Memory Management' utility may not be updated or optimized for use with Yosemite.
I'd disable it for now. Best way to check if it fully supports 10.10 is to switch to the dark finder mode, and check if the memory util works with dark finder (i.e.: fonts in menu aren't invisible/hard to see, etc). I agree however, if you're in the 16-32GB of RAM availability, you should not need these third-party RAM utilities - let the OS perform its own management. It's really only handy for 2006-2008 users with 2-4GB of installed memory.

  • Yosemite OSX screwed my Printer!

I just upgraded to Yosemite yesterday.
Before answer, I will tell you that I am already searched and doing so many stuff to bring my printer back again.
    >> I have repaired Permission using Disk Utilities
    >> I also updated the EPSON Driver "EPSON Stylus Photo R230" to current version
    >> I have reset the printer settings.
BUT my printer keep saying Communication error. I could not even do anything to print test page, calibrate printer, clean printer head etc.
Here is my printer status and details.
Finally I documents I am trying to print out will stay like this forever even my printer says idle.
Please help, this is unacceptable. How I am supposed to do? I can't work.

Now I'm in a dark moment.
Printer doesn't respond to anything now. I can't open the service to check the status.
It says service unavailable. I can't re-add as well.
Hopefully I did backup all of the files I deleted. I am just don't what to do with them.

  • Yosemite OSX Server 4, pushed printers show as 'not connected'

I am using a Mac Mini on Yosemite with Server 4 primarily as a profile server.  It's pushing out two printers to clients, both Ricoh MP 3503's with the latest drivers.  Clients receiving the printers from the profile server get "Printer not connected" when printing to them.  When you add the printer locally, either by IP or as a managed printer on the server, clients can print just fine.
The printers and server are in the same subnet but clients are in another.  You can discover the printers through the Mac Mini server, or by adding them by IP and again, printing is just fine.  If the printer is added through the profile server, you get 'Printer not connected", something about adding them from the client vs. pushed through a profile is affecting whether or not the client can see the printer.
I've tried resetting the printer system locally and on the server, verifying reachability between the client and printers, adjusting the domain on the printers so they're in the same domain as the clients.

    A lot to check for!
All my users are "Local Network Users" setup in what is now Server 4.03 (as of a few days ago), not Local Users.
Ours are Local Users - but I would argue strongly against this being a factor.
My usergroup is also a "Local Network Group", not a Local Group.
Ours are Local User Groups - but I would argue strongly against this being a factor.
I believe you can print from your server as your clients can when the server is sharing - but just to ask, can you print from the server?
You are correct.  I can print directly to the printer, or I can print through/on the server without any problems.  Yes, I can print from the server.  Both as a client that's added the server's shared printer or as a local user on the server.
Under Sharing menu in System Preferences on the Server, is Printer Sharing OFF (it is off for me).
No, it is on.  Presently, the server is sharing out the printers for discovery because clients are in a different subnet.  They cannot discover the printers on their own.  The printer has an IP in both the printer subnet and the client subnet.
We use the Mac Server for DNS and DHCP, so that printer is statically assigned on the server, just sayin'.
With all I've heard about DNS, I was thinking hard on this but I don't think it's a factor.  We use a Windows 2012 server for DHCP and DNS.
Take a look at this screenshot below - it is of my Profile Manager where that printer "Fiery" works fine passing to the clients.
    Yes, what about it?
Could it be a router port problem? On our router, an Airport Extreme, we have opened up Printer Sharing ports, see screenshot below.
No, because we don't segment our network.  I can add the printer directly to my client machine and print to it without issue - I just can't discover it because I'm in a different subnet then the printer.  The server acts as an intermediary, I can discover the server's shared printers because the server is in the same subnet as me.
On my Printer Options - I will open a thread, it is just that you had some experience and I wanted to hear about it and I may not have under another thread (you would have no reason to have looked for it). Anyway, I will open a thread, thanks for letting me know your experience with "Options"!
I appreciate it!  I'm just trying to keep a convoluted problem as clear as possible.  I am nearly positive your issue has to do with the printer driver you have installed on the server.  The clients get the driver from the server, we used to have ours show up as 'generic printer', but then downloaded a different type of driver, PS is generic, PCL6 showed up as specific.
