You Can't Create A Mail Folder For POP Accounts?

I can't believe that I am unable to create a folder for a POP email account so that I can file and manage my email on the iPhone 3g! Which rocket scientist at Apple made this decision? What happend to the "manage email on iPhone" Use Case?
So, how do i use the iPhone for email if all i can do is load the last 200 emails into the inbox?

You cannot have POP3 mailboxes on the iPhone. You can have IMAP mailboxes but you must create them on another client such as your desktop.
Even if you could create POP3 mailboxes there would be no way to sync them with your desktop. the POP3 protocol does not support mailboxes; it was developed at a time when having mail on your desktop was unusual, and no one at the time ever thought you would have more than one computer to read mail with.
One workaround is to get a free gmail account and set it to read your ISP mail. You can then set up the iPhone to sync with gmail via IMAP.

  • How can I create a mail folder where my gmail folders are

Hi all, I have Mail with my Gmail account. My 'labels' have appeared as folders in my Mail. That's all great and I've learned how to use them effectively so that they all sync when going back to gmail.
However I cannot create a new 'folder/label' where all the others are. I can only create a new folder as a subfolder and then move it.
Is there a way to create another 'folder/label' where the existing ones are.
See this screenshot, so I'd like to create a folder where 'Adobe' and 'Airmiles' folders are and not as a sub folder of 'Adobe/Airmiles' or of [Google Mail].
Can I do that? I am able to create the folder as a sub folder and then drag and drop where I want it but ideally want to avoid this step.
    Thanks in advance
    Hayley

Not in Mail. If you referring to not having to use the menu, you can click the + sign at the bottom to create new mailboxes. But you still have to fill in the window with location and name. You can right click to create a new mailbox on an existing one, but not in the main account itself and you still have to fill in the info. It would create a sub folder.
You can also try it at the gmail website. There might be shortcuts there.

  • Use mail app for POP account only?

This may be a stupid question, but my .mac trial has recently expired, and I do not wish to pay for an entire .mac account because I only enjoy using the e-mail portion of it. I have set up my gmail account so that the e-mail gets forwarded to my mail, but is there any way to send e-mails from my mail application using my POP account now that my .mac is expired?

I'm not sure I understand you rquestions - It sounds like you want to discontinue your .Mac account but continue to use your .Mac email - I do not believe that that is an option
If you are switching to gmail (or for that matter adding gmail) you can set up Apple Mail to handle your gmail account either as a POP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275&topic=12810 ) or an IMAP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379&topic=1281 ) - gmail help has instructions for this set up and many others as well - a great place to look

  • Can't get new Mail from my Pop-Account...

    Hello,
I have a problem with Mail, as I can perfectly send but not receive Mails from my Pop-Account. The settings are fine and the problem came up suddenly. When I try to get mail from Pop-Account the application starts to load, shows the number of mails in the account, begins to count up the size and then stops. I can even see the title of the mails by opening the window of the Account, but Mail does not download them.
I would be really pleased if anybody could give me an advice what to do.
Thanks a lot an greeting from a German in Bahrain
    Jan

Hello and thanks to both of you,
I am using Mail 3.1 and the Account is coming from Strato, a German provider. Before, I had no problems neither with receiving nor with sending, but suddenly it stoped. I tried another account (gmail) that worked without any problem. Also your advice with SSl and the ports did not help . I Also phoned the Helpline of the provider Strato without any result . Also the place does not change - it neither works at home nor at work.

  • How do i create a mail folder for my iphone 5c

I need to make multiple folders in mail but I do not know how to do this.  Can anyone help me?  I appreciate your time.

    Hello Husker2759,
The iPhone User Guide details the steps for creating mailboxes on your iPhone.
Organize your mail with mailboxes. Tap Edit in the mailboxes list to create a new one, or to rename or delete one. (Some built-in mailboxes can’t be changed.) There are several smart mailboxes, such as Unread, that show messages from all your accounts. Tap the ones you want to use.

  • How can I create a new folder in Word for Mac ?

How can I create a new folder in Word for Mac?

You don't do this in Word. You do it in the OS X Finder.
All you need do in Word is open the file, then select Save As from Word's File menu. Change the destination to your new folder then click on the Save button.
The Finder method is much faster if you have a number of files you want to move. Just remember that to open those moved files in Word, you will have to change the directory from which you will open those files.

  • Can't search emails after creating encrypted mail folder

Using Disk Utility I created an encrypted folder for my Library/Mail folder.  I created the folder with a password, then created an alias for it which I stuck in the Library folder to act as my new 'Mail' folder.  So now when I open up Apple Mail, I'm asked for a password so that I can start reading emails.  Great, works fine.  But now I can't use the search tool to find emails according to various key words.  Anyone know how I can get this feature working again?

I've had trouble with JavaMail starting on July 21st. I've used the same code for months, but all of a sudden, I can't delete messages from Gmail using the DELETED flag. I open the folder as READ_WRITE, grab the messages from the folder, set the DELETED flag, double check to make sure the DELETED flag was set, then close the folder (setting EXPUNGE to TRUE). Nothing happens. No exception is thrown or message is given, and no messages get deleted from the inbox (they just remain sitting there). I've tried calling the EXPUNGE method manually after setting the DELETED flag, but then it complained that the underlying implementation could not execute the method because the message was READ ONLY!!! I'm out of ideas. I've posted on Google's forums, but every other .NET and command terminal commands seem to still be working. I'm wondering if Gmail altered their configuration to become more compliant with the IMAP protocol, and JavaMail (or its underlying implementation) is still not 100% compliant?
    Thanks for your consideration.

  • Can Anyone Tell Me Why Time Machine Won't Create A BackUp Folder for a Programed Backup?

Does anyone know why my Time Machine is NOT creating a backup folder on and regular scheduled backup?  Just recently I downloaded the Time Machine Editor and it said to turn off the regular Time Machine (ON/OFF) switch, and just run off the TM Editor.  However, at 1am in the morning, it comes up with the error saying it can't create a Backup Folder.  I'm sure this is a simple solution but I really don't know how to handle this...  Would appreciate any and all help in this matter... Thanks, Gary

Were you already backing up with Time Machine - ie, did you have an existing backup folder on the drive before you started using Time Machine Editor? If not, you probably need to do at least one full backup with TM, and then start using TME to schedule backups.

  • How can I disable the Junk mail folder for an email account?

How can I disable the Junk mail folder for an email account?

    Hi scottyfrank68,
Junk mail filtering can be turned off by going to the Mail menu > Preferences > Junk Mail pane and unchecking the box Enable junk mail filtering. See this article -

  • How Can I Turn OFF Junk Mail Filter for IMAP Accounts Only?

I am trying to figure out how to turn off the Junk Mail filtering for IMAP accounts such as .Mac/.ME and GMAIL. All filtering is working fine on the server side, and reviewing the mail that is tagged is easy enough by just going to the account and displaying the folders created on the server.
I've checked the Junk mail pref and although the Advance settings let you isolate specific accounts to check, it does not give you the option bypass checking an account.
    i.e.
if <Any> of the following conditions are met:
    <Account> <is not> <Gmail (IMAP)>
As is, the mail rules are working perfectly on the server side, but in Apple Mail, many mails are being sent the Apple Mail's Junk folder.
When going through the Gmail's instructions on setting up a Gmail account for Apple Mail, it specifically says to turn off Junk mail filtering for the account, but I can't find any options to do that.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

I haven't tried this, but it should work:
    Make a new rule,
If <Any> <Account> is <Gmail> or <Account> is <.me> then "Stop evaluating rules".
Move this rule to the last in the list of rules.
In the Junk Mail preferences, be sure that "Filter junk mail before applying my rules" is unchecked.

  • I am trying to create a mail folder.

I'm trying to create a mail folder.  However, when I go into New Mailbox and press Save, it says 'The mailbox couldn't be created on the server.'  What can I do about this?

If you get the New. Mailbox option at the bottom of the window, then you obviously do have an IMAP account otherwise that option would not appear for you to use.
You our could try actually creating the mailbox on the server and it should sync to the mail app. You could try doing it directly on the iPad by logging into your webmail account in Safari and see if you can create the folder/mailbox there. If that doesn't work, you can do it on a computer.
One other thing that you might try is just to quit the mail app completely and then reset the device. That might refresh the setting in the mail app and allow it to work.
In order to close the mail app, Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • What??? You Can't Create New  Mailboxes on an iPhone???

    How incredibly stupid is that???
So I finally decide to buy one of these things (two, actually, since I can't get one unless my wife gets one too...) and one of the first things I tried to do is... move a message from the inbox to.... ANY other folder. There, at the bottom of the message, is the icon... a folder with an arrow. Tap that... and... what's this?? You can't create a new mailbox?
Oh wait, maybe you have to create the mailboxes in Mail on your MacBook, an then sync them to the iPhone. Nope, that doesn't work either.
So maybe you wind up on the phone with some charmin lass in Bangalore and you listen incredulously as she tells you that this INCREDIBLY SIMPLE AND S.O.P. CAN'T BE DONE with an iPhone!!!
And then you tell her... but... there it is, right in the user manual I downloaded. Three mailboxes in addition to "inbox" "sent" and "trash." Where did they come from???
Then you spend 10 minutes on dead silence, on hold, and she comes back and says, oh, you can only do that with an iMap account! Like, hotmail or gmail or something.
Well, I don't have hotmail or gmail (I do have Yahoo Mail but don't actually use it for anything) I have Apple Mail on my MacBook. Are they telling me that the mail program on this most-expensive-smartphone in the world is really so stupid that it can't create a mailbox?? That every message I want to keep on the thing has to be kept in the inbox? How stupid IS THAT???
So, please, somebody.... tell me I'm wrong about this -- that lovely Ms. Bangalore is wrong about this... and tell me how I can create an additional mail box on my iPhone so that I don't wind up with 1,000 messages in my inbox.
Really, how hard, how fundamental, is a task like that?
    Thanks,
    --PS

With .Mac you get 10GB of storage, you can divide that between email, and web/iDisk space by logging in and going to your account settings on www.mac.com.
EDIT: When my mailbox on an IMAP server that limits to 200MB starts to get full, I move old messages to a "local" or "On My Mac" folder on my computer.
Thanks again for all the patient counsel around this issue. Here's the latest, in case anybody's still paying attention.
I've been able to convert my primary e-mail account from POP to IMAP, so that it is now fully syncable with my iPhone. However, I'm still a long way from migrating my entire e-mail operation to Mac Mail.
That is actually something that I would like to do. But I'm having a hard time now figuring out what exactly will be my "e-mail strategy" going forward.
Presently, I am still doing most of my e-mail (which is a large part of my work) using Eudora in Windows on the Mac (via Parallels). I have had to do that mostly because I have thousands of messages in folders in Eudora, and I have been relying heavily on Eudora's robust search functions to find material that has formed the basis of a book I've been writing. For that and other reasons I have had to continue running Windows even as I've been migrating to the Mac platform.
Now that a first draft of the book is done, I would love to abandon Windows altogether. I'm much happier in a pure Mac environment.
But switching to IMAP for MacMail has actually made the prospect more difficult, because the service that hosts my primary e-mail account only allows 100MB of storage on their IMAP servers. I have hundreds of folders and several GB of files and folders in Eudora; with that kind of limit, I really can't see moving all those files and folders into MacMail, and having them sync'd to the server. It's impossible, actually.
I do not need access to 98% of what I have stored in Eudora from more than one client. So it really doesn't need to be part of my IMAP scenario.
What I do need is a way to clear from the server e-mail that I want to keep locally. How do I do that if everything in an IMAP client is duplicated on the server?
As it is, the next time I start Eudora in Windows, it is going to download all the e-mail and delete it from the servers. Then the next time I start MacMail, it will all disappear from MacMail because it's been deleted from the server, right? That's not such a bad thing, because it clears the servers and because MacMail is not (yet) the permanent repository of my vast e-mail archives.
This gets confusing to even contemplate, let alone write about. Bottom line is a) how do I make MacMail my main e-mail program when there is surely going to be more than 100MB of data I want to maintain, and/or b) how do I preserve the e-mail that I do want to save locally if my primary account is IMAP and I don't want to keep everything on the server.
Remember, this whole issue arises because 98% of what arrives on my handheld (previously a Treo 650) I could just delete, and the other 2% I could save to a separate folder. But that was a POP account. Now I've had to alter my entire e-mail regimen JUST so I can have a folder for "keepers" on my handheld. And I SURE don't need those those thousands of e-mails in my permanent archives on the hand held (even if there is room for them).
Sorry, I keep trying to boil it down to a simple question, and it keeps getting complicated. Is there a primer on IMAP management that somebody can refer me to?
    Thanks,

  • I have an edit button in my e mail account but when I press it I don't get the ''get new mailbox' button. How can I create e mail folders? Thanks.

I want to create e mail folders for my goole account. I go to the account and as suggested in the forum i tap on edit. Then instead of getting at the botton a button that says 'new mailbox' i get 2 boxes one red that says delete and one blue that says move. This is on an ipad 2. I have also an ipad 3 and there it does work. I have checked the settings in both ipads and they seem identical to me.
How can I create the foldesr then on teh ipad 2?
    Thanks a lot!

You need to be in the mailbox list for the account when you tap edit.
Sounds like you might be trying to do it from insider you Inbox.

  • How can I create a new folder in de tool bar?

I have several bookmarks of news papers and magazines located in the tool bar. Since they take space I need for other bookmarks, I need to place them in a folder which will also be located in the tool bar. How can do to achieve that?...I did it once but I forgot how I did it.

Just like you would create a new folder anywhere. Open the drive's icon from your desktop or the Finder, and click shift-command-N. (Or use the Finder menu if you prefer - File - New Folder).
If you can't create a folder, your drive may be the wrong format (you can't write to a Windows/NTFS formatted drive, for example). You'll have to back up any files you have on there, and then use Disk Utility to reformat it to Mac Extended (if it will only be used on a Mac) or MS-DOS format (if you want to share it with a PC).
