You shouldn't use Coldfusion Components because...
Are there any good answers to this question? My boss refuses
to let me use Coldfusion Components because, according to our
sys-admin:
"using the components allows you to extend internal
ColdFusion functions. This has been identified as a security
issue."
And because of this, he believes that he would have to either
not allow them or:
"Define a security Sandbox for each developer. The Sandbox
defines which components can be used and which cannot."
I have tried to read up on this issue over the past few days
but am just not finding the information that I need to address his
problems.
Any suggestions?

Your boss has no clue , your sys admin even less.
There is NOTHING you can do in CFC that you can't do in a
cfml page. CFC's
are more a logical division for the developer and offer no
more or less
security risk. By your boss/sys-admins logic, you shouldn't
even be using
CFML pages. If you can do damage to security with a CFC, then
you can also
do it with a standard page.
Ask your boss what particular function or action can be
performed in a CFC
that can't be performed in standard page. There are none. A
cfml page and
CFC are really the same thing (even compile down to the same
thing)
The only thing I can think of is that are being misled by the
word
'component' and are thinking more along the lines of MS
components that were
used with traditional ASP. Some of these components caused
security
concerns. But CFC's are not the same kind of component - this
is just an
unfortunate naming coincidence. They should just of called
them CF Objects
or CF Classes. Then your boss/sys-admin would never have
blinked an eye or
been concerned about using them.
Educate them.

Also, when my wife and I first got our Mac Pro we used my name to fill out the start up info. What we didn't know was that my name would now be the computer's and home folder name. I managed to change the name of the hard drive/computer (so now it says 'mike & jen') but the home folder is still my name. Bothers me a little because it's not just mine...it's both of ours. I know that sounds silly.
If we made a new account would the home folder name change too? Any why bother with another acocunt? Why not just use the admin?If your computer is connected to the Internet, it's pretty important not to be logged in with administrative privileges. A lot of security vulnerabilities in software boil down to an attacker being able to run software on your computer without your consent. Here are a couple of excerpts from a description of a security update for Quicktime (I've added the bold):
Impact: Viewing a maliciously-crafted JPEG image may result in an application crash or *arbitrary code execution*
Impact: Viewing a maliciously-crafted QuickTime movie may result in an application crash or *arbitrary code execution*

Often these sorts of security problems rely on the fact that a lot of users are logged in with administrative privileges. So if you're logged in as administrator and running Quicktime, and you browse to a hacked web site that's hosting a malicious Quicktime movie, and you haven't yet installed the latest security update for Quicktime... next thing you know, your Mac is running "arbitrary code" with administrative privileges.
Logging into a non-administrative account doesn't prevent you from browsing to a hacked web site (and big-time, mainstream websites do get hacked), but if the malicious Quicktime movie isn't able to run its arbitrary code with administrative privileges, it will have a much harder time installing nasty things on your computer. -

Keep in mind that it's till there... for now. According to their site, CF support in DW is deprecated, and who knows if it will continue to exist?
And it's still there, I suspect, only because totally ripping it out would have been too much extra work. And who knows if, say, any new tags added in CF10 will be added to the code coloring and hinting?
Personally, I consider it sad for Adobe to fail to support their own technologies, and it's somewhat telling that it seems to be the direct opposite of the way they went when they wanted to push Flash, and made sure EVERY product supported it in some form or another. Flash, apparently, was important. CF? Not so much.
I also find it somewhat odd that they seem bent on making DW some sort of "pure" HTML product (though they kept PHP support). DW, Animate, Edge Code, Reflow, Inspect... how many HMTL-only products do they need?
I have a CC subsciption primarily for DW and PS. Keep this up, and it's just PS. And since I don't do print work, or need CYMK support, it's entirely possible I can find other tools (PIxelmator) to do the job. -

Using XML Components to generate WML Output

Is there a way to configure the XSL stylesheet in a Portal XML Component so that if the compoment is being called from the Portal Page it shows HTML Output and if it's being called by a WAP Phone it generates WML?For the purpose you mentioned, you shouldn't use XML component. Rather you should user mobile XML portlet. Basically, if you want to display content in WAP phones, you can use mobileXML portlet available under portal tools in Portlet repository. The XML content which you provide in mobile xml portlet, needs to follow the iAS wireless edition DTD. Then you can put this portlet on a page. Now if the page is accessed from HTML browser, it will transform this content and if it is accessed from WAP phone, it will convert the XML content to WML.

Fortunately for you, you can make your new phone to work; but to do so, you have to call your Chineese carrier and give them the IMEI number found on the SIM card of your iPhone.
They will then activate it and you will be able to use it.
It's NOT a matter of locked/unloked phone; it's a matter of activating (pairing) a SIM card with a phone !
Just call you Chineese carrier and have them register your SIM card with your new iPhone and you will be back in Business ! -

I can't use swing components in my applets
When I write an applet without any swing components, my browser never has any trouble finding the classes it needs, whether they're classes I've written or classes that came with Java. However, when I try to use swing components it cannot find them, because it is looking in the wrong place:
On my computer I have a directory called C:\Java, into which I installed my Java Development Kit (so Sun's classes are stored in the default location within that directory, wherever that is), and I store my classes in C:\Java\Files\[path depends on package]. My browser gives an error message along the lines of "Cannot find class JFrame at C:\Java\Files\javax\swing\JFrame.class"; it shouldn't be looking for this non-existent directory, it should find the swing components where it finds, for example, the Applet class and the Graphics class.
Is there any way I can set the classpath on my browser? Are the swing components stored separately from other classes (I'm using the J2SE v1.3)?
Thanks in advance.Without having complete information, it appears that you are running your applets using the browser's VM. Further, I assume you are using either IE or Netscape Navigator pre-v6. In that case, your browser only supports Java 1.1, and Swing was implemented in Java 1.2. You need to use the Java plug-in in order to use the Swing classes (see the Plug-in forum for more information), or else download the Swing classes from Sun and include them in your CLASSPATH.

When I insert a lightscribe DVD/CD into a lightscribe optical drive, then when I click to open the DVD, I faced this error 'How do you want to use this disc', although the DVD was full of data. When opening these
lightscribe DVD/CD via NON lightscribe optical drive, I noticed that the DVD/CD opened well without any problems at all.
Also, how can the System show to me 'How do you want to use this disc' , in particular when a DVD is non rewritable(DVD-R) and also contains data)?
Bear in mind, not all DVDs/CDs were not detected. However, only full lightscribe discs' (having data)
However, even blank lightscribe discs were detected without problems. When insert a lightscribe disc having data, then I faced that error. However, when inserting blank lightscribe discs I found that the disc were opened. Also,
non lightscribe discs were opened well.
When checking the device manager, I didn't see any issue with DVD/CD drive. If there were a problem unrecongnising, then I would have seen 'a remarkable mark' in front of it.
Note: I have faced this problem after trying formating a rewritable CD inserted onto the drive. Althouthg the format failed, all data on the disc was deleted. Anyway, after that, then inserting full-lightscribe discs are unregonised
Do you think the problem wth my optical drive. IF so, I would be saying why it wasn't happened with all other non lightscribe discs. If my lightscrib discs were corrupted, then why would they have opened well on another laptop.
I have done:

yes there is a virtual CloneDrive program installed on my PC, however, there is no any CD mounted into it. Even if a CD was mounted into Virtual Clondrive, there would be no problem at all, because the virtual CloneDrive is used to only
mount ISO disc images into it, and not physical discs.

NOTE: in the above screen shot there is a lightscribe DVD having data inserted. However, in the screen shot below, there a ightsrbe DVD not having data inserted. In the first screen shot, the disc is not reconginsed by Windows, however, in

FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP lapotp is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop,
which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is
always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to
the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is
kept from the dust.
But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop
still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is
not oproperly preporly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I
charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then
when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it
after storing,I found it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it
lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only
lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
the computer shuts down suddenly.
My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR Data
CD/DVD-R LightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was
unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive
'duble-click', then I find that disc opens as this way(NOT: With a CD/DVD player

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk
/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software which
came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical
drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell
optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc
recording software
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE
Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with
another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP
laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical
drive which is as follows:::(ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of
My Desktop Computer) ---while my optical drive of my desktop was connected to
the primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the
primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning
well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5,
something went wrong, and then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer
(HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOT recognised/Installed on
BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a
recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a
disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it
opened empty(no files at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot
to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was
still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried
clicking on it on BIOS and then clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be
re-recognized. However, that made no difference. I had to take part my computer
,and then reconnected the optical drive onto the secondary slave
IDE , and let HDD connected to the same primary master IDE.
Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs became being read
normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS]]]
What is meant with with double Layer Support.
