Your Feedback Desired: Integrating Developer Workspaces through SSO

Greetings,
I work a for junior college in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we are actively preparing to deploy Oracle APEX to complement our web application design activities, and hopefully empower our developers to create applications that move away from the aged batch and process model. We are interested in securing the development side of APEX using single sign-on if possible. We want developer accounts to be provisioned and password controlled through an external source of truth. I've reviewed the administration guide, and did some Googling to see if this is possible or has been done before. So far I'm coming up with nothing. Managing developer accounts apparently is done one way through APEX instance administration. Before I deliver my findings to the greater team, I want to make sure I have accurate information.
Please share your experiences with managing APEX developers and workspaces. How are you doing it in a production environment? Have you been able to automate the process? Successes or pitfalls?

Currently application builder is authenticated with Apex users

There is no way use LDAP or SSO to login to application builder currently.
You can create end user applications that are authenticated with LDAP, SSO ....
But developer users are maintained as Apex users by instance and/or workspace admin.

I've been handrolling GUIs for over 10 years (first in X/Athena/Motif)
and now Java.
I have never found a builder that lets you get exactly what you want
plus I've always found the source they generate to be rubbish (ie
you can't modifiy it to do exactly what you want)
If there was a tool that did give me complete access to do everything
I wanted plus produced usable/reusable source code - would I use it ?
I'd probably try it and see if it was faster than doing it by hand, if
yes then I would certainly use it.
I don't honestly think a builder will ever be a complete replacement
for a GUI developer though.
Last (silly) point: Is there an Athena L&F for Java ? - not that I want
one, purely interested to know if there is one !

File Bloat - Give me your feedback

Cut the fat feature
How would you like the feature to work?
Captivate files tend to suffer from bloat, and when they start to get to big the only solution is to copy and paste all your slides into a new blank project. Unfortunately this breaks any links that you might have in your project. Some kind of tool that can go in an get rid of all unused internal resources that are bloating the file so you don't need to copy and paste.
Why is this feature important to you?
It will stop the many many questions in the Captivate forum on how to fix the problem, and we won't have to fix all our links every time we need to cut and paste.

1. Is the bloated project upgraded from Captivate 3 (or is it a new project created in Captivate 4) ? Have you ever faced the project bloating issue in Captivat4-only project (not the ones upgraded) ?
2. Did you try removing un-used items from the library ?
3. Will it be possible for you to share the project file (.cp)? - The bloated project file (which will give us a clear picture of the problem).

File bloat has been a recurring issue for Forum members (since RoboDemo?). I have to say I don't have a problem because I design the training so each Captivate project rarely has more than 30 finished slides, and I clean out unused library items often.
In the past, a solution has been to save the file as a different name then close and reopen (vs. copying and pasting and losing links). Another strategy has been to publish often. That seems to clear bloat in some cases.
It's clear that Captivate is a processor hog, and as we clamor for more features, THAT probably won't go away. Maybe we could benefit from a 'designing for (or around?) Captivate' Forum division? Most of the training I see (and the underlying Captivate metaphor?) assumes we all create tidy one-file projects. I think real-world projects are much larger and messier. Hence the bloat. --Leslie

Adobe seeking feedback about panels, palettes, workspaces, and other UI elements

Several folks within Adobe are discussing the user interfaces for our various applications, and we'd like your feedback.
Do you use After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom? Other Adobe applications?
If so, please post your comments on this forum thread comparing your experiences with the user interfaces of these applications.
Regarding the panels, palettes, workspaces, and overall UI paradigms in these applications: What do you like? What do you hate? Do you care that the applications are different in this regard? What differences do you even notice?

Primarily using AE/PP with often PS as well, some illustrator.
I don't think the UI itself -- panels palettes workspaces etc -- need much work, they are overall greatly improved in the last 5+ years & for the most part much ahead of competition. More attention should probably be put into other items that need improved, many of which already came up listed here.
One thing, I wish text brightness was added as customizable as well as the UI slider; I don't like the text brightness on the lower and higher end of the slider, wish I could customize it.
BUG since as far as I can remember, maybe CS3 or earlier: workspaces need to remember multiple monitor setups!
The problem is, I snap off my timeline into a separate window, and make it full screen.
Now, if have an explorer/finder window open on the screen where the project & monitors panels where, everything opens fine & my full, double screen layout opens just as I left it.
However, if I open the project from the monitor that say, my full screen timeline is in, the project/monitor panels etc come up in that same screen, undernearth the timeline. So I have to nudge the timeline window down, and double click the primary premiere pro window, and for some reason that maximizes it to the other screen). Then bring my timeline window back into place.
For this reason alone I kind of like making a single window layout that's just 2-screens wide (Avid-esk), however, I run different resolutions on the monitor and this really complicates things if I'm trying to use all of my screenspace, when two or more monitors have different heights for resolution. Also, in this setup, all progress windows appear right in the middle, so it's split between the two monitors. This could be improved.
Another request would definitely be to make hotkeys and things like timeline navigation more universal among your apps. I run Avid+custom setup on my hotkeys in PP--I jump into AE, and every last button is different, and in AE it's not nearly as easily customizable. Same for Encore's, etc. I'd LOVE for a change in PP's hotkey to reflect how it works in AE, Encore, and even PS in video mode, etc.
Simarly, as mentioned on this forum, I hate how blending mode changes in PS is arrows keys, on AE is shift + or -, and totally manual (mouse--annoying) in PP. If there's one thing I wished was improved, it would be to make this particular task universal among Adobe apps.
I also really miss the hotkey property drop downs from AE when in any other program (c for opacity, a for anchor, etc). I'd love to see them make it into other apps.
Try not to hide things in the panel's window, coming from "hamburger menu's", I like that CS5 has kept things well enough organized to not have a bunch of important options there that are easy to miss.
Speaking of buttons, I think you'd find it rewarding to add 'fit to fill' and other fit clip options into buttons. They are extremely hidden right now, because you only see the options if you set 4 in/out points and don't drag/drop, which most users will never do. Additionally, "solo" & "mute" buttons for audio tracks, which are right there on the audio mixer, just makes sense, add them.
Another important one is you need to make everything keyboard mappable. Like in MC, all buttons and actions need to be mappable--just the drop down menus and the few extras you have listed doesn't cut it. I agree with others here, the keyboard visual layout would be dandy here.
Definitely a +1 to improving thumbnail views. Really quite bad right now. Need much more customization in sizes thatn just 3 sizes, and a thumbnail + info view (like script view in MC) makes it so you can both see and sort the info, and see the clip at the same time, which is ideal for me. Be able to customize the thumbnail, maybe a special type of marker that's put in from the preview window?
Hope this helps. For the most part the UI's are really great; it's the thing that most other NLE users are complaining about in their software, not Adobe users. Often in their forums I'll see posts comparing things to PPro's UI and pointing out how much better developed it is & that particular app should do something similar to what Adobe did. Unable to access Workspace through Apache web server

I have configured Hyperion 9.3.1. products in windows.
I am getting the following error message when trying to access Workspace through Apache web server(port 19000). But, able to access through Weblogic Application server(port 45000).
please assist me in resolving this issue.

I re-configured the BIPlus components and even now, i am unable to access workspace through Apache web server.

Error when trying to create a new Voyager Workspace through Infoview

When trying to create a new Voyager Workspace through Infoview, I get the following Error
"An Error hs occured while attempting to connect to the OLAP server.Failed to initialize(The following component Microsoft OLEDB Provider for Anaysis Services 2005 returned server error(An error was encountered in the transport layer;the peer prematurely closed the connection"
I clicked on New Voyager Workspace & then it displays the list of connections available. When, I click on any connection , then I receive thefollowing error

An Insight of our environment regarding this, we have an clustered environment with Voyager Installed. Platform is Windows Server 2003. We have all the required Microsoft client tools installed on the Production Servers.
This was working fine earlier. We were able to create Voyager WorkSpace at one instance of time. The problem at that point of time was the MDAS Server was not showing up in CMC, i.e as we had clustered environment, only one of the MDAS Server was showing up in the CMC. it was missing the other MDAS Server. but, at that time we were able to create Voyager Workspace.
So, in order to view the other MDAS Server in CMC, we had changed the name of the Server in CCM for both the MDAS Servers.
In detail, Server A.MDAS Server & Server B.MDAS Server- they both were not showing up in CMC. only one of them was showing up in Servers list in CMC.
So, in CCM we had changed the name of Server1.MDAS server to be Server1 &
for Server2.MDAS Server to be Server1 as well.
AFter this both the MDAS Servers were showing uo in CMC.
but, when I login into Infoview & click on new Voyagerworkspace & select a connection, I recieve the follwoing error

Hi,
Try to create the objects again and take the screenshot of SU53 when you get the error and see the authorization object for which you are getting the error here.
It is possible that you dont have development authorization.
Also the issue could be that the system is not configured to create the objects begining with Z.
Check this with basis as well.

If i remember correct , Installation will ask you for MaxDB user ids , it will give errors latter if you give lengthy user ids ( i think >8 or 9 ) . So try not to give lengty ids also check your host name. Looks like that also too long

Where Can we Download the "old" speedgrade ... so we can give better feedback for integration?

Where can we download the "old" speedgrade, so we can give better feedback for integration with aftereffects and premiere. I haven't used speedgrade, but I'm assuming it's like Davinci Resolve ... color grading is something you have to play around with a bit, to give decent feedback on integration. On one extreme, I like the ease of aftereffect composites. On the other hand, using graph operators (such as in Resolve and things like blender) ... is real nice ... but it's really not how i do work on the adobe side. I'm looking for a color grading approach that isn't for tier 1 film, but more for tier 2, independant and/or corporate work. I'd also love the ability to mix special effect compositing (like I currently do with AE), with coloring (which I currently have to do in in another program). I also have two work streams I would like to test, one RED and another 1080p for normal corporate stuff (which i currently don't color grade btw).
Anyway, I see some wierd links on downloading the old speedgrade, I don't see any download links on the speedgrade web page ... would be nice to see what the old speed grade does so I can comment competently.

Adobe SpeedGrade CS6 is at the door, official preview will be held at NAB, I'm currently testing a preview version of SG CS6 and I want to say that it works very well, so stay tuned on the Adobe website.
I tried to "stay tuned", here on this Adobe Website ...and your post is the first confirmation that Adobe Speedgrade still has any sign of a beating heart.
Totally dissapointed in Adobe for lack of SG communication to keep my interest up.
Regardless of that, I am looking forward to seeing it.

I'd suggest looking for an active community around the package, for bug reporting and security mailing lists, stable, established, and at the add-ons and customizations and theming. Then look to see what prerequisite software is involved, and what the effort might be in installing, maintaining and upgrading the Wiki.

Wikis that are protected behind a firewall are easier to deal with than open Wikis; allowing the world at a Wiki can be a maintenance and security issue. Creating a web service using websphere integration developer

Hi! all, Iam trying to create a web service in websphere integration developer, of IBM,
While creating a wsdl file, it asks for literals, there we need to check the corresponding literal based upon the requiremnet.
I came to know that document literal is used for document inputs and outputs,where as rpc literal/rpc encoded is used when dealing with the primitive data types.
I created a simple addition operation with rpc encoded its working,
but i tried out with the rpc encoded , which is causing an error
the err is :

Operation timed out: connect:could be due to invalid address
Iam not getting how to resolve this error,
Please let me know , if any has faced this kind of error , n knows how to solve.

Unfortunately, OUT parameters are not supported in 9.0.3 as per this doc:

JDeveloper's PL/SQL Web service support is built on top of the Oracle9iAS support so is subject to the same constraints. Support for OUT arguments is planned in future releases of Oracle9iAS and Oracle9i JDev.
You may be able to construct a workaround using an approach described in this new DB Web services paper:

where you use JPublisher/SQLJ to do the work and then another wrapper/sub class as the actual class that is published as a Web service. Feedback from the tv back through my sound card

I have a macbook pro I7. I hook up the tvs through VGA I get feedback from the tv back through both my internal and my external sound card. It is a loud low hum and you can see the lines running through the tv. I have the same problem with or with out the exteral sound card. When I hook up my PC to the TV it works fine and no problems. Also if I just hook up a second monitor it works fine. As soon as I unplug the vga adapter all the feedback stops. any ideas?

Adobe Muse is not a CMS, but you can publish adobe Muse site on Business catalyst, and Business catalyst is a CMS. You can integrate BC CMS features on your Muse site.

WIDL and Web Integration Developer

It seems that the WIDL and Web Integration Developer is the solution.
I am using iAS Release 2 (9.0.2), however, I cannot find the mentioned "Web Integration Developer" with my iAS installation. Where can I download it?

Third party application forcing java stack to restart when logged in through SSO

We have APW Third party application installed on Enterprise portal 7.4.
When we tried to login APW portal through SSO it forces Java stack services to restart.If we use APW directly without SSO it works fine.
Can you help me tto resolve the issue.

Please check the configuration once agian about the third party connection and the portal.
Also provide the "dev_server0" which under in directory /usr/sap/SID/J00/work and default trace which under in “/usr/sap/SID/J00/j2ee/cluster/server0/log" to analyze the issue. There is some other tool as well to check the issue using "httpwatch" log tool. But, mostly issue can be identified in dev_server0 or defalut trace".

7.0 and your feedback on the new chat UI

Totaly agree that it would also be nice to be able to hide the useless "Home" and "Call phones" buttons on the contact list.It can be a part of a "compact list" mode or as a separate option. I never use them.

Since releasing the new chat experience on desktops to users on Windows and Mac we've looked closely into the feedback you've shared with us. Since September we've released multiple updates to Skype for Windows and Skype for Mac to incorporate smaller changes based on your feedback.
Today we are making Skype 7.0 for Windows desktop available for download from Skype.com.
New in 7.0.0.100:
Compact sidebar: Some of you asked us to see more contacts and conversation in the left hand sidebar. Enable the option "Compact Sidebar View" from the "View" menu for a more compact layout.
Compact Chat View: If you can live without your chat message having some whitespace around them to give them room to breathe you can now increase your "message per inch" ratio drastically by activating "Compact Chat view" in Skype Options - "IM & SMS" - Advanced settings. Also don't miss out on the other available tweaks to the UI we wrote about earlier.
Toggle for large emoticons: Some users prefer not to show emoticons sent in an individual messages in a larger size. You can find an option to toggle this in the Skype Options - "IM & SMS" - "IM appearance"
Toggle for unread messages: You can now quickly switch between your conversations that contain unread messages and all by using the dropdown on top right of your "Recent" list. See the screenshot on the right
Touch scrolling: If you are sporting a device with a touch screen like a tablet you can now use vertical finger swipes to scroll in conversations. Better have a screen wipe at hand all the time though
Disabling chat formatting: Especially role players using Skype have shared that they'd prefer the new text formatting options introduced in 6.22 to not apply to their IMs. This formatting is based on the use of wrapping parts of the message in characters like *, _ or ~. You can disable this permanently for all of your chats, by sending the following chat command to any of your chats:
/setupkey *Lib/Conversation/EnableWiki 0
To enable the formatting again please use this command:
/setupkey *Lib/Conversation/EnableWiki 1
This setting doesn't seem to stick reliably in 7.0 over restarts of the app. Skype is looking into this.
Please give the new 7.0 version a spin and customize Skype layout and design closer to your liking. We are looking forward for your feedback.
