Youtube without Flash

This a neat little greasemonkey script I found. You can watch youtube videos without flash.
It loads the mp4 or flv file into mplayer-plugin
http://userscripts.org/scripts/reviews/50771

Too bad that Epiphany WebKit has no User.JS script support (the only setback for me to, finally, leave FF.
P/s: Epiphany Gecko and Midori have a partial support for User.JS scripts.

  • Watch YouTube without flash

I wrote this tiny script to make it really easy to watch YT videos without having to rely on Flash. I tried MiniTube; it's nice, but this method seems to take less CPU during playback.
    Packages needed:
    xclip
    mplayer
    youtube-dl
    #!/bin/bash
    URL=$(xclip -o)
    mplayer -geometry 100%:100% -xy 500 -ontop -cache-min 2 -cookies -cookies-file /tmp/cookie.txt $(youtube-dl -gf 18/34 --cookies /tmp/cookie.txt "$URL")
I saved the code as ytplay.sh, then I added a program launcher in my xfce panel with the command:
    bash ytplay.sh
Now, to play a video, I go to a YouTube page in my Flash-disabled browser, I highlight the URL with my mouse and then click the program launcher in panel. The video will show up in the bottom-right corner of the screen. You can change -xy 500 in the script to -xy <whatever pixel size you want the video window to be>.

There is nothing to "solve", as ewaller intimated in the linked thread a couple of posts later.
The tools described in this thread, and the other one, are not in themselves at issue. The Forum Etiquette entry is quite clear:
Therefore, do not post discussions about or link to criminal solicitation in any form. This includes, but is not limited to information or links to facilitate illegal drug use, theft, network intrusion, creation of code for malignant purposes, prohibited software copying, prohibited use of copyrighted/patented material...
Posts that encourage the prohibited use of copyright/patented material will be removed. This script, like P2P applications, is content-agnostic. The expectation clearly established in our rules is that discussion here will be around appropriate use of content.

  • How to watch video's without Flash...

Hi, I have installed Flash to watch videos on YouTube and Cnet.  What was odd was that I never needed to install it before Mountain Lion....anayway onto my real question:
Is there a way to watch vidoes without flash?  For example, many videos on Cnet and YouTube play on my iPad, which doesn't use Flash, is there a way to get that playback on my desktop Safari?  Flash uses CPU and generates heat, plus I don't trust it.
Why do these video's play on my iPad?  Is it that h.264 or something formating?  Can I use that instead of Flash with Safari?
    Thanks,
    Respectfully
    Jac151

Flash provides more freedback and interactivity than just a video, plus there is a advertising aspect to it I suspect so that's why if they dectect your machine is capable of Flash they will insist you use it.
Flash is safe as long as you use it on sites that are reputable and you can trust them..
If you use Firefox and the NoScript Add-on, drag a "Temporarily allow all" button to the FF toolbar, you can surf the web safely without any scripts running, including Javascript which is used to popup look alike OS X windows to try to fool you into providing  your admin password to malware.
IF you then trust the site your on, you click the button if you need the scripts to run.
Also you can disable the scripts you not using individually and enable a downloads window to appear before the download acually occurs less you click a wrong link.
Safair offers little in security, it's why many Mac users get malware that way.

  • How can i watch clips without flash player?

How can i watch clips without flash player ? Since apple dont support this program, what shall i do?

Apple don't want flash player (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/), and Adobe have never managed to make a version that works on iOS devices.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, and there is the built-in YouTube app.

  • Firefox and youtube - adobe flash slowness

Recently youtube is so slow using the adobe flash. (i mean not the html5, as with html5 everything is fine). I have latest firefox 29.0.1 with latest adobe flash player. When i try to use the volume meter or pause-start the videos, it is laggy.

I have uninstalled adobe flash recently. When I need it, I start Google Chrome or Opera.
    Youtube works perfectly without flash.

  • No sound when accessing internet video (i.e. youtube, Skype, flash, etc)

No sound when accessing internet video (i.e. youtube, Skype, flash, etc).  It says I am missing a driver but not sure where to get it without paying $30 for something that shouldnt be missing in the first place.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if the videos play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart IE.

  • I recently started to have this problem, I can view videos on youtube without any problems, but if I put a link lets say on FB, I cant view the video

I recently started to have this problem, I can view videos on youtube without any problems, but if I put a link lets say on FB, I cant view the video I can only hear the sound, its like, there even the buttons, only invisible, yet still clickable, so if I manage to find and click the full-screen button the video switch to full-screen and I can view it. this is really annoying as I cant see flash animations and some videos at all.

You need to find out what type of video it is.  What your describing is what you get when a Video codec (software that allows you to "see" the video) is missing, damaged, or too old for the movie.
Once you identify what kind of movie it is, then you can update the codec.

See if your sources have an app and use that.
Or look for a browser that supports flash and use that.

  • Alternative for HLS HTML streaming trough JW player for users without Flash?

    Hello!
I am using HLS TS Streaming trough JW player for the largest group of users that have flash for streaming video's.
Is there an alternative for users without flash?
    Best regards

    I will just summarize myself...
Adobe media server supports rtmp and HTTP(HLS and HDS)..
for rtmp streaming the swf running in a Flash player is the standard interface...that flash player may be an activeX control/plugin in your browser or may be a standalone player downloaded from adobe website...Chrome web browser however users a slightly different( PPAPI based) flash player(which is different from Adobe flash player) and is developed and maintained by google.
For HLS and HDS, you can either use special players(i.e swfs)(Flash based) developed Adobe by Adobe e.g Strobe meida player(Open Source Media Framework Blog | Adobe’s free and open source media playback system) or you can use players like jwplayer(Video Player Download | JW Player Online Video Player)... Incidentally jwplayer has added simultaneous support for playing rtmp streams too(which is reallly good), but i do not have much insight into workings of jwplayer...

  • Embedding YouTube into Flash

    Hi,
You can't place HTML snippets directly in Flash Catalyst.

  • Integrating Licensing without Flash Builder

    Hi,
I posted a question about InMarket SDK for JavaScript developers before:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/742240?tstart=0
So I checked the answered documentation and tried to integrate licensing into my AIR application I made with only JavaScript.
BUT, according to the document, it seems that Flash Builder is required for the licensing integration.
Do I have to buy Flash Builder just for the licensing? It's very expensive for me. Is there any way to integrate without Flash Builder?
    Thanks.

You don't have to buy Flash Builder. You can user Flex and AIR SDK that is available for free. If you use Flash Builder the process is simpler, but its possible for you to use the free tools and achieve the same results.
Here are the steps you can follow:
    1) Install the AIR SDK – See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WS2d8d13466044a73328ed2239124110d12b3-8000.html
    2) Install the Flex SDK - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WS2d8d13466044a733190f0432124114d9a19-8000.html
    3) Follow this tutorial to learn how to compile and package Flex application - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WS144092a96ffef7cc4c0afd1212601c9a36f-8000.html
    4) Follow out tutorial on building AJAX apps for InMarket, but use the AIR command line compiler and packager tools as opposed to using Flash Builder.

  • When will HTML5 be supported on all browsers without Flash

When will HTML5 be supported on all browsers without Flash.  Flash is a support nightmare.  No matter how much Adobe wants to rescue it, it's antiquated proprietary functionality that poses both security and support issues.

"When will HTML5 be supported on all browsers without Flash?"
This is a really weird question.  Why ask it here?
For starters...HTML5 support on all browsers is not something Adobe is responsible for, so why ask that question on this forum?  Instead, if you want anyone with a stake in the issue to answer it, ask the browser manufacturers (e.g. Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, Apple) when they will be supporting all features of HTML5.  The ball's in their court right now.
Secondly, for e-learning developers HTML5 is currently a bigger support nightmare than Flash ever was.  At least with Flash we had a runtime (Flash Player) that all major desktop browsers supported. You could create a course in Flash or Captivate, and as long as the end-user's browser had a current version of Flash Player, you could be reasonably certain it would run, and run smoothly.  HTML5 output from most current generation authoring tools runs like a dog with three legs.  And e-learning developers forced to build HTML5 or mobiles are encountering a minefield of wildly differing screen sizes and inconsistent implementations reminiscent of the worst years of the 90's "browser wars".  HTML5 is no picnic.  Give me Flash any day.
Thirdly, Adobe already knows they cannot "rescue" Flash.  Why do you think they've already started rolling out HTML5-centric apps such as the Edge Toolset.
Fourthly, the rumours of the death of Flash have been wildly exaggerated.  Flash is very much alive and well and happily living inside many of the games and apps that people are currently playing with on their mobile devices.
