Z87-GD65 - using onboard video card istead of PCI-E GPU

hello guys,
i have installed a GPU with this MB, but i would like to use the MB onboard video instead.
the GPU is working fine - but i am using it for processing parallelised code, and i do not want to use it for graphics.
is there an option in the BIOS that i can set to make this possible?
thanks,

hi
just checking..
am i to believe that there is no way of using the on-board graphics if a GPU is installed on the board?
thanks

  • How can i allocate more RAM for my onboard video card on a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch running windows 7 via bootcamp

I noticed that since Macbooks.. macs in general use an EFI instead of BIOS.  . .. Now i need to allocate some more RAM for the onboard video card since its currently running with an estimated 50mb.. I would like to increase this to 512  and cut the 3.95 down to 3.5 MB for the rest of the system ( allowing me to run more graphic intensive games and the such ... ) I know this could slow down the entire system.. ( i am aware of this ) and have gotten a 3rd party application to control and close out uneeded processes during gaming.. I just need more ram for my onboard video card.. Any help?

You don't allocate more RAM towards your video card, you put more RAM into the machine and hopefully some machines will bump the CPU graphics RAM allocation up a little.
The problem is you bought a integrated only graphics computer, if you want to 3D game you need a dedicated graphics computer with it's own or dedicated VRAM.
If your this serious about 3D gaming, your on the wrong platform.
Get a Windows 7 64bit i7 8GB RAM expandable 3D gaming tower with a good power supply and video card upgrade path, this way every few years you buy and stick in a new video card to play the latest games.
Mac's are not gaming machines and never will be because they would last too long if we could upgrade them.

  • 2012 macbook pro retina display artifacts on screen when using onboard video

2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display artifacts on screen when using onboard video.
About a month ago I've noticed these strange artifacts (blocky pixelated looking) running vertically down the screen. It first started when using Safari. Then it started to happen all the time. I turned off the auto switch video in preferences, which I'm assuming forces the computer to use the separate video card and the artifacts go away.
On top of that issue I also have had the ghosting issue.
    Anyone else have this problem?

artifacts onscreen could mean a faulty gpu. You said by forcing it on inbuilt gpu you do not find this issue highlights that. Do take it in to apple for service and also tell them of your ghosting issue.
There are a few retina owners who have faulty gpus.

  • Won't really see a video card in the PCI slots

I have a G4 MDD 1.23 GHz. I have a 32 MB video card in the AGP slot, but I also have 2 PCI 128 MB video cards lying around.
Every time I try to throw a PCI video card in, though, I have problems. The image is only 640 x 480 grayscale, nothing else. I tried to change the settings, but those are the only options.
I have a 3DFX Voodoo 2 and a TwinTurbo 128. Do I need drivers? Does the MDD not support video cards in the PCI slots? What's wrong with this picture?

For what it's worth, here's a few quotes:

    Let's see...
Sounds like you're running into an expected issue if you make an alias to removeable media.  The same thing would happen if you made the alias to a folder on a DVD-R disc or CD-R.  If you eject the original, you disable the alias.
If you copy the entire SD card volume to your drive, the PRIVATE package should copy across.  Then, as a folder on your hard drive rather than a volume on removeable media, you could make an alias to the STREAM package for quicker access later.
I'm pretty sure that Handbrake, like Prmeiere Pro, can see the MTS files directly.  That is, it's not dependant on the other folders in the PRIVATE directory sturcture.  As such, you could copy the contents of the STREAM package to another folder on your drive.  Just be mindful of the default MTS file names if you're using more than one SD card (you don't want to accidentally copy 00001.MTS from one card over 00001.MTS from another card).
As long as Handbrake sees MTS directly, you could even rename the MTS files after you've copied them.
On a side note, I almost always archive my SD cards with the data structure intact.  More often than not, that file structure is important to corretly access the video stored within that structure.  If something unexpected happens while working with the MTS files, it is good to have the original file structure to go back to.  Although, SD cards are getting to be so low cost that sometimes I just label the SD card and store it for archiving.

  • MSI GT70 2PC dominator not using dedicated video card

Hi well for the past two weeks ive been having fps and perfomance issues in games like diablo 3, path of exile, guildwars 2, but there was an interesting point in path of exile at the option select screen and it says choose adapter and its stuck using integrated graphics card this could be the problem for most of my games, of course i went to nvidia setting and chose to use the nvidia card as global and changed the setting to use it individually for each game, my nvidia drivers are up to date 344.11 i swear i thought it was something else causing these problems but i can be sure now that i saw this problem in path of exile, everything is set so games use the GTX 870m but i wouldnt be having these kind of problem if it were in use right? please i really need help here, there must be something wrong i bought this notebook 4 weeks ago for 1600$us from bestbuy, you know how i feel :( i just wanna play my games as smooth as possible!!!

Beside the update you should do, if the problem still remains, I'll suggest to roll back the graphics driver to the version from MSI website.
*Make sure that you completely uninstall all NVIDIA related programs in Control Panel> Uninstall a program before the installation.

  • Onboard video card with shared memory??

Congratulations Apple on the new Intel-based Mac Mini! I was patiently waiting the arrival of a faster version of the Mini.
However, I've noticed one horrible mistake. The Intel GMA950 graphics card is attached to the motherboard? What? Apple has decided to make there affordable systems even less gamer-friendly?
So what you're saying is that if you want to play World of Warcraft or any of the few powerful games designed for the Mac, you must purchase a system that is at least $1,300?
I just bought a Dell for $250 that runs World of Warcraft and other games rather smoothly. Hmm, lets see, $200 or $1,300? Which would you rather spend?
Seriously though, Apple needs to sit down and rethink there strategy for the gamers industry.
How about offering a system that has at least a 64MB video card (at least meet the MINIMUM latest game requirements) and is affordable (say under $1,000 even)?
The Apple Macintosh is indeed the Cadillac or Mercedes of personal computing when it comes to looks. But PCs are readily becoming more attractive (especially when comparing performance rating and prices).
    Thanks,

  • PS CS5 claims my video cards have zero memory, no GPU access!

    Hi folks
Firsrt post here. I hope some one can assist as I have been dealing with this issue for few days now. My hard drive died last week...had to reinstall everything. Now, for some reason Photoshop refuses to enable OpenGL access even though before I was able to use Photoshop with same video cards. I have reinstalled the app multiple times, reset prefs many times, installed various versions of my video card drivers (right now I am on the latest drive). I checked Adobe and NVidia sites and my cards are listed as supported. I checked Device driver (shows cards installed ok) and Windows sees my cards and I check Direct X diagnostics and it sees my cards memories.
    Here are my specs:
    Windows Vista 32
2 x NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX (have a 512 memory each, not running SLI)
    4 Gigs of RAM
    2 x 500 Gig WD drives
    Wacom Cintiq as second display
I know my OpenGL works because I am able to run Modo fine. I checked in Device Manager and all seems ok.

  • MOVED: Onboard graphic card simultaneous with PCI Express graphic card

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161634.0

    Hi,
The following link shows the specs of your machine:
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03499587#N432
    It clearly says:
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards.
Either integrated graphics or the PCI Express x16 slot are usable at one time; they are not usable concurrently.
You don't need to disable the integrated video chip (or onboard video).
    Regards.

the system runs fine, but will not restart correctly. just blank screens
ive downloaded the forum flasher & made a bootable usb stick.
now im seeing NPT method etc & im lost on what to actually do? whats fast boot & win 8 options mean too, bios settings?
I have the 1.b file but will it still flash? I don't want to brick it
    pls help!
edit I reflashed the 1.B file using the forum flasher & still have the same issue
    system specs are
    4790k
16gb gskill ddr3 1600, I have tried setting the ram to correct timings too
    3x r9 280x
    240gb corsair force 3
    1000w EVGA P2
what else can it be? it ran fine before I updated the bios & changed the cpu

    Hi,
    Quote:
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7888IMS_150.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to the bad bios without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash the bad bios with 1.5
I.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_me10_mb.zip
Read few times if not understood
Ignore name of files mentioned in instructions, but use those from below.
But download latest OFFICIAL BIOS file from here:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=169827.msg1262015#msg1262015
    [E7845IMS.160]
If you want, you can try latest which will be this one:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=169827.msg1308776#msg1308776
    [E7845IMS.1B2]
If BIOS A is already bricked, you won't damage it by trying above.

  • [SOLVED] switching from onboard video to a pci express card

    Hello,
I have an onboard video card [VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2)].
I have been running the nouveau driver, but the video card is not truly supported so I bought a [VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 3] (rev a2)].
    However my lspci -k | grep -A 2 -i "VGA" gives this:

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for the Pro 6300.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03612810/c03612810.pdf
Please take a look at chapter 3, page 23.
There is a bios setting to enable/disable the onboard video.
Integrated Video (enable/disable). Use this option to disable the integrated video controller
when another video controller is present in the system. Default is enabled.
My assumption is that when you add a PCIe x16 video card, the onboard video is automatically disabled in the BIOS.
See if you can change the O/B video setting back to Enabled to see if that will allow both video devices to work at the same time.
If the setting is grayed out or it enables the onboard video but disables the PCIe x16 card, then I guess it can't be done.

  • Pm8m-v need to use agp video and onboard vide

I recently purchased an MSI pm8m-v motherboard.  This motherboard has an onboard video card.  I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 AGP video card.  I also purchased a PixelView PlayTV MPEG 2 TV capture card.  I want to have two monitors so I can put the TV display on one monitor and work on the other monitor.  The problem that I'm having is that the onboard video card is automatically disabled when the nVidia card is in the AGP slot.
How can I enable the onboard video card when there is an AGP card in the AGP slot?

Usually, the mainboard VGA will be disabled automaticly when you plug other Video card in the mainboard. But sometimes, there will be some items for you to choose to the VGA you are uing. So maybe you could check in the bios/Integrated  Peripherals to see whether there is some ralated items. Maybe you could enable both of the onboard VGA and other vgas. If that there is no such item, then you could only use one of them. If in that case, you may check whether there are interfaces both for TV and CRT.

  • SLI - Can I use two different video card versions for SLI?

    Hello,
Can I use two different generations of MSI video cards that implement the same GPU for SLI?
    The two video cards are:
    MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv2 GeForce GTX 260 896MB <-- What I currently have
    MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv3 GeForce GTX 260 896MB
    MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv4 GeForce GTX 260 896MB
The main difference between these three seems to be that the OCv3 has two fans and a different heatsink than the OCv2.  The OCv4 has one fan like the OCv2 and but it is located in a different location and some weird spikey heatsink thing going on.  I already have the OCv2 but I am looking to get another card for SLI and newegg doesn't sell the OCv2 anymore.  The important thing is that I am looking for is stability and it seems that the most ideal setup would be to get identical cards.
By the way, why are there so many versions (updates?) to this card?  Have there been issues related to the card that necessitate a revision?
    Thanks

Different coolers(HS and fans) and possibly different makers of vRAM.  But, you should be able to run SLI without issues regardless of the versions.
