Zebra 2824 printer CUPS driver

Hi, I have a Zebra 2824 label printer that I would like to use with some software I'm developing. Has anyone got this or a similar printer working in Mac OS 10.4?
Are there any CUPS drivers for it or would I need to write one myself?
When I plug in the printer it shows up in the printer utility but there isn't any zebra printer models listed so I can't get it to print anything.
Any help or leads would be much appreciated.

Hi Tylr,
If you overwrite Apple's installation then you wouldn't have to change anything but that's not recommended. Otherwise, future system updates will doubtless break your installation. It is better to install it elsewhere, traditionally with an INSTALL_ROOT of /usr/local.
In that case yes, you would have to edit the /System/Library/StartupItems/PrintingServices/PrintingServices script to point to the new version of cupsd that you installed. That should allow you to configure printing services through the web interface at http://localhost:631/. I don't know how will effect Apple's Printer Setup Utility but I assume that it communicates with the cupsd daemon too so if you start the new one you installed, everything should work together. However, I don't know how Apple's Printer Setup Utility works so all you can do is try it and see.

  • Brother Printer CUPS Driver conflict crashed host application

I just bought a Brother MFC-J4710DW multifunction printer but whenever I select Printer Options from the pop-up menu of the print dialogue box, the application I am printing from crashes leaving an error message saying the following (TextEdit is only an example).
TextEdit quit unexpectedly while using the BRInkQuality12 plug-in.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
Basically, this means that I have no control over the print quality, which paper is used or which paper tray is selected.
BRInkQuality12 is the Brother CUPS driver and I found virtually nothing about it online, let alone any problems with it. I have spent some time with Brother technical support who basically said that they have not seen this problem before and as a result, I started doing my own troubleshooting.
It seems to be a problem with my user account as I have tried other accounts and it works fine. Permanently using a new user account isn't really an option I want to think about so I set about trying to track down whatever it is that ic causing the crash.
So far, I have repaired permissions, booted in safe mode without success. I then went through everything in my user account library and have eliminated everything systematically - rebooting dozens of times with groups of items removed and then replaced when the problem remained.
In the olden days, I would have been using Conflict Catcher to identify the problem but there doesn't seem to be anything like CC for OS X.
I would be very grateful if anybody has any suggestions on how to determine what is causing this or if anybody else has experienced it.

    Thanks.
I looked at that earlier and searched online for EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) but I only found information which spoke of what I had already been doing.

  • Help with Zebra Label Printer and Multi Order Shipping Tool- Partial Label Printing

I have a zebra gx420d which is compatible the zebra 2844 (its the new model) and I am having a hard time printing labels with the multi order shipping tool. I have the correct driver, the printer test page works fine, and everything is configured for a 4x6 label.
I have set the selling preferences in paypal to match the zebra 2844 printer and within the mult order tool, I have edited the settings to also match zebra 2844.
My problem is that regardless of what or how I do it, my printer will only print a 1/4 of the label. It is not shrinking the label, it is starting to print at the correct size but stops 1/4 of the way through. Almost like it thinks my label size is too small but as i mentioned, I confirmed 4x6 on the label settings at both printer properties and printer preferences. I spent and hour on tech support with zebra and they confirmed the printer is working as it is supposed to. I also know this because my Amazon labels print correctly as well. Its only paypal and ebay labels that are not working. Very frustrating.  Can anyone help?

    Hi,
did you upload the desgin in a standard text with option ITF? This you can copy then to the layoutset. At least this is the way of working with BARONE.
    Cheers,
    Stefan

  • Issues with Crystal 2008 Printing to a Zebra Label Printer with SP2

    Hi there
We are having issues printing to a Zebra Label Printer using Crystal 2008 SP2.
When you attached a .rpt file to the .NET Application which is accessed via RDP/ICA the reports in Crystal XI worked fine.
    Steps we have taken are:
Printing direct from Crystal 2008 Designer to the Zebra Printer works using a Generic Text Driver
Printing direct from Crystal 2008 Designer to the Zebra Printer using a Zebra Universal Print Driver DOES NOT work (we were advised the Universal Print Driver may assist with the issue)
The report when accessed via the .NET Application via RDP/ICA using the Universal Print Driver it doesn't work.
The report when accessed via the .NET Application via RDP/ICA using the Generic Print Driver it doesn't work.
The report when accessed via the .NET Application drectly from Server Console prints fine using Generic Print Driver, but not with RDP/ICA.
Can anyone offer any suggestions to a fix?
    Many thanks.

    Hello,
I'll look at this tomorrow when I get into the office. An I am moving this to the developer forum.

  • Problem with printing EMF to Zebra ZM400 printer

I'm attempting to print multiple copies of an rdlc directly to a Zebra ZM400 printer.  Previewing the report in a report viewer, then printing, works as expected.  Printing directly to the printer, thereby bypassing the report viewer, does not
work as expected.  Alignment of text is off and the font is wrong.  This is an older ZM400 with an updated driver.
This is not a problem with a newer ZM400.  So I'm thinking it's the age of the printer and not anything to do with the programming code.  Unfortunately I cannot try the rdlc on the newer ZM400 due to the forms size expected by the printer.  I
thought I'd check here to see if anyone else has had this problem and if they were able to get it resolved.  Otherwise, I think the user will have to upgrade their printer.
    Here's the code I'm using:
    If MyGlobals.strLabelRequested = "xxxx" Then
    deviceInfo = "<DeviceInfo>" & _
    "<OutputFormat>EMF</OutputFormat>" & _
    "<PageWidth>2.96in</PageWidth>" & _
    "<PageHeight>6.9583in</PageHeight>" & _
    "<MarginTop>0.0in</MarginTop>" & _
    "<MarginLeft>0.0in</MarginLeft>" & _
    "<MarginRight>0.0in</MarginRight>" & _
    "<MarginBottom>0.0in</MarginBottom>" & _
    "</DeviceInfo>"
    Else
    deviceInfo = "<DeviceInfo>" & _
    "<OutputFormat>EMF</OutputFormat>" & _
    "<PageWidth>4.427in</PageWidth>" & _
    "<PageHeight>8.25in</PageHeight>" & _
    "<MarginTop>0.161in</MarginTop>" & _
    "<MarginLeft>0.25in</MarginLeft>" & _
    "<MarginRight>0.161in</MarginRight>" & _
    "<MarginBottom>0.161in</MarginBottom>" & _
    "</DeviceInfo>"
    End If
The "If..." part of the code is for the older ZM400.  The "Else.." is for the newer ZM400.
    Thanks.

    I don't know the answer.
However I do have a question. If you can't try this on a newer ZM400 due to the forms size expected by the printer then how do you know it will work on a newer ZM400? Therefore how could you tell the customer they must upgrade or something? And how then
would you know this is not a problem with a newer ZM400?

  • Using USBTB For LW 360; Must I Switch HP Photosmart 8450 To CUPS Driver?

This weekend my LaserWriter 360 quit printing under Snow Leopard. No DIP switch/driver combo would resurrect the printer...
Fortunately, I found the discussion regarding using USBTB (http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2519106&tstart=120) and now the LW 360 is up and running!
My question: must I now switch my HP Photosmart 8450 to a compatible CUPS driver? I assume that the answer is "yes" but i would like to continue using the HP driver if possible...

That would be a separate issue. If it works now, it should still work. The only reason you would need a CUPS driver is if you are using a print server that needs it, or if you are printing through Window sharing.

  • Can a Linux CUPS driver be installed on OS X? (for iP4200)

Canon has finally released an unsupported CUPS driver in an rpm package for the iP4200.
    http://software.canon-europe.com/software/canonprint_filter_forlinuxs24302.asp?model=
I have been doing a lot of research, trying to figure out if this can be installed on OS X. It's unclear if it needs to be compiled specifically for the Mac, or if it will install and work without a recompile. All the Linux/Unix stuff is a bit of a stretch for me, but I am starting to get the hang of it.
If this will work, we can finally use the iP4200 with a non-Apple Airport print server. I just picked one up for free after rebate with my new MacBook Pro, and it would be nice to get this to work with other computers in the house.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

    Darren,
My apologies if the tone of my last post was harsh. That was not my intention. I guess I was a bit more surprised by the post as I thought you had worked through and understood the issue(s). You did cite your correspondence with Canon on the subject where you asked if they would recompile it for Mac OS X. Compiling a binary for any platform means that you have the source code. The binaries for the package managers that Canon has for download are not source code.
The one thought I had originally was that there might be a way to extract the needed source code from the .rpm files. I do not have any working knowledge of how the package managers operate, so I left open the possibility. The more I think about this, however, I am pretty sure that such extraction of the source code would most likely be considered "reverse engineering" or "decompiling" and illegal under the The Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
the whole point is to make printer drivers transportable from one version of unix to an another, and I haven't been able to find documentation that states that the source is transportable but require recompilation to work on different systems. This certainly could be true...
In general, making drivers or CUPS transportable from one platform to another depends on the developer(s) writing the code in such a way as to make it useable on more than one platform. That is, it must be able to be compiled on various platforms. Apple compiles the CUPS source code for use on the Mac. That compilation results in different binaries for the PPC Mac and the Intel Mac. Same source code but two platforms and two sets of binaries. If it weren't for Rosetta, a PPC compilation would not work on an Intel Mac. The "hpijs" driver package for HP printers that is available through the linuxprint.org has not yet been recompiled and packaged for Intel Macs. The drivers work because they run under Rosetta.
The only time that the code does not have to be compiled is when the program is written in a "lower" language such as Perl as opposed to "C" or "C+". In this case, the interpreter is a program on the host machine. The foomatic-rip software is an example. Then again, the Perl interpreter on a PPC Mac had to be compiled from source code for the PPC Mac platform.
I am happy that you keep digging and learning. You are to be commended for that. We are all learning as we go. Perhaps posting your inquiry of converting a .rpm into something that could be used on a Mac would get a more thorough vetting if posted to a different forum such as the Unix forum or a similar forum on Usenet or one of the Mac news sites. Discussion of source code, package managers, and compiling is a bit complex for most of us on this printing forum.

  • AUR package for konica minolta laser printer (CUPS)

    Hi there,
currently I'm writing a AUR package for the Konica Minolta Magicolor 5430 Desklaser.
I have a question to put the ICC profiles files and special KM files to the cups tree.
The Konica Minolta makefile put the binary "rstertokm5430" to the directory "/usr/lib/cups/filter/" which is completely correct but the *.ppd file and *.icm files are going by default to /usr/share/KONICA_MINOLTA/mc5430DL/Profiles (icm files) and to
    /usr/share/cups/model/KONICA_MINOLTA/km5430dl.ppd.gz (ppd file)
The directory in my running archlinux is
    usrsharecupsmodel*.ppd and
    usrsharecupsprofiles*.icm
Additionally there are "Halftones" files (*.bmp)
    usrshareKONICA_MINOLTAmc5430DLHalftones*.bmp
I think about to put the Konica Minolta files in to this (new) directory tree:
    usrsharecupskm5430dlmodel*.ppd
    usrsharecupskm5430dlprofiles*.icm
    usrsharecupskm5430dlhalftones*.bmp
How do I have to copy these files to be archlinux compliant ?
    best regards,
    Frank

frigg, my apologies for overlooking an important point in my last post. The three magicolor drivers have different version numbers, unlike the other examples of multiple printer drivers in one PKGBUILD. This means you will need one PKGBUILD for each driver, in order to have the correct Arch version number. There is still value in doing them together, since they have many common elements.
As a consequence of this change, I think it might be best to put the single PPD file in /usr/share/cups/model/, rather than have a directory with one ppd file in it.  It appears that the KM_PPDDIR variable in the configure script controls this location, so I have added a sed command to the build script accordingly.
As another consequence, the package names need to be changed. I would suggest cups-mc2430dl, etc. This uses the short internal names used by the drivers, and Arch package names are supposed to be lower-case. This means that your awk script no longer works for all three drivers. Rather than write three different awk scripts, I have ported your directory change to a sed command.  When you package a stand-alone script with the PKGBUILD, you have to also maintain its md5sum, so it is simpler to do everything inside the build script if you can.
Following are the three incomplete PKGBUILD scripts incorporating these changes. They are complete enough that when you run makepkg, they will  download the tarball (if it isn't already present), check its md5sum, copy it into the src directory, uncompress it, and modify the configure script. One way for you to proceed from here is to add lines to the build script, run makepkg, check that the right things happen in the src directory, and then that the correct things are put into the correct place in the pkg directory. The next line in the build script runs configure, which won't finish on my system due to the lack of libjbig.

  • Postscript and Cups Driver onMac Leopard

With today's "modern" Mac OS-X (Leopard) and a Vendor's CUPS Printer Driver,
Does the printer driver still need any sort of "software" RIPping to translate the Postscript document OR does the Mac OS-X Leopard have the ability to translate the Illustrator document (or any adobe PS document) and create a raster image to be sent to the selected Cups Driver?
    Thanks!

That would be a separate issue. If it works now, it should still work. The only reason you would need a CUPS driver is if you are using a print server that needs it, or if you are printing through Window sharing.

  • How can I get the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver installed on Win7 LC master?

We recently migrated from a Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 print server. When recomposing a linked clone pool with the old 2003 server, drivers were taken care of for the printer when the user printed for the first time after desktop recompose. With 2012, any printer using the Point and Print driver doesn't seem to obtain the driver again from the 2012 server. All of our clients are running Windows 7 which means the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver is not installed in the OS natively.
I apparently need to figure out a way to get this installed on the host image so it trickles down to snapshots when recomposing the linked clone pool but I haven't been able to dig much information on doing this. Does anyone out there have any insight on how to accomplish this? If I recompose a pool now for a user who is using a new Point and Print driver, they get the following message that is resolved by removing the printer from their account and re-adding it:
"The 'Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver' printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?"
I figured the easy solution would be to just install a printer using the Point and Print driver and then remove it...leaving the driver behind (unless it cleaned up after itself). The problem with this is in my testing, even after removing and re-adding a printer that set off installation of this Point and Print driver on the client, any other printer that was using it still required the remove/re-add process in order to work, else I got the same message. That tells me that the driver may be custom for each printer installed?
Color me a little confused. I do NOT like the way that Server 2012 handles printers. I've come across a few other issues as well (such as duplex capabilities not being remember on the print server for a printer) that I never had with the 2003 server.
    Thanks!!

I was able to get it to work using your instructions off of here and your other thread
    Thank you!

  • Device type to be used for Zebra 220XiIII Printer

    Hello All,
We are printing labels from SAP to the printer Zebra 220XiIII Printer using Adobe Print forms technology. When configuring the printer, we used the device type as PDF1. The print was fine in terms of data display and positioning of the text and barcodes but the issue is that it takes 30secs. to print each label. This was not acceptable as it is creating delays in Shipment.
To address the issue we changed the device type to LZEB3. The print was fast i.e., in 20 seconds the printer was able to print 5 labels but the font on the label is increased automatically because of which the data on the label is truncated.
Does any one have any ideas on what is the device type to be used and is there any specific font to be used?
Please note that we desinged the forms using ADOBE FORMS TECHNOLOGY. There are many notes in Service market place which are specific to Smart forms. Please come up with your ideas.
    Regards,
    Praveen T

    Hi Florian,
Thank you for your response. We were able to fix the issue by changing the Device type to LZEB2.
For some reason YZB200, YZB300 and other device types which we found in the device type wizard did not work in our case. We did not investigate the reason as LZEB2 worked and we have time crunch

  • Print the UPC-A Barcode on the ZEBRA S4M printer

    Hi,
We are using ZEBRA S4M printer and we have to print UPC-A Barcode from the smartform.
There is not Barcode character defined to it. How to print the barcode without barcode character format on the label.
Rest all the fields of the label are printing correctly on the label.

    Hi Gnana,
    Thanks for your reply.
Currently there is no font defined in our SAP system which supports UPC-A barcode format.
To defne new barcode in SE73, it requires to implement the necessary steps like
    1. having the necessary dll files - which may be supplied by any third party vendor.
    2. And the required device types.
If the the above information is available, the new barcode can be created in SAP.
But i dont have sufficient information whether the above approach has to be followed, as UPC-A is the Universal Product Code and needs to be printed to the confirmed guidelines.
I also know that EAN13 is the superset of UPC-A and EAN13 barcode is supported by SAP ECC6.0. I tried to print using EAN13 but the values that i read using barcode reader didnot match the with values that i provide.
EAN13 is 13 character barcode whereas UPC-A supports only 12 character.
Please suggest if any suitable solution.

  • Enhanced Point & Print compatibility driver in Windows 7

    Hi all,
are admin permission needed to install the enhanced Point & Print compatibility driver in Windows 7? The print server is running Windows 2012R2 and the driver type for the printer is V4.
When a user (non admin) tries to add that printer, a dialog box pops up and asks for trust. Is this the default behaviour?
    Many thanks!
    Nils

    Hi Nils,
Would you please let me know whether add a network printer via

  • Restore printer and driver using time machine?

First, I looked at the TM forum and didn't see an answer.
I inadvertently uninstalled a printer from SysPrefs>Printers and Faxes dialog box. The printer worked great and the particular driver I was using was very hard to find (not sure if I could find it again).
    1. Is there a way to restore the printer and driver using Time Machine.
    2. If not, could I manually reinstall the driver from a backup and if so, where would I find the driver?

You should be able to readd it to the prefPane without restoring any drivers.

  • Officejet 6500a printer and driver installation's

I am having problems printing from my printer. I have been using my printer for several months without a problem but now it sees the printer but cannot connect to it  (wireless). I have tried to reinstal the printer and driver but none of this seems to be working. Any help out there as I am getting desperate!?

I have used a few types of printers, mainly inkjets and I have had this problem before too. I found that unplugging the printer and router and turning off the computer, all at the same time for a minutes or two.. then restarting up the router first and pritner then pc all helped. gl
