Zen Micro Charg

I just read the following article in the knowledge base:
"It has been reported by some of our customers that they have experienced reduced battery life after charging their Zen Micro. Our product development team has researched these reports and determined that the users may have experienced this after they plugged their Zen Micro into the AC adapter that was already inserted into a wall socket with the AC power on."
This is what has happened to me. What you experience if you use this method is the player never gives you an indication that it's fully charged (no A/C plug symbol ever appears). Eventually you get fed up after leaving the player on charge for well in excess of 4 hours and unplug the thing.
So a firmware upgrade has been released to correct this, which I will duly install. The question is: has the battery been damaged by charging via this incorrect method i.e. will the battery now "remember" the incomplete charge and fail to charge beyond this point?
Cheers

Lithium Ion has no memory effect and is very resilient to these things, so I doubt you've caused any major problem (or even a minor one).

  • Does the Zen Micro Charger also work with the Zen Nee

I can get a Zen Micro Charger for 20$ at my local Walmart, which is obviously better than the 35$ price online. But the main question is, will it work with my Neeon? Can it cause any sort of problems plugged into my neeon?

USB adapters seem to be a law unto themselves. I have three, two for mobile phones, and one for the Micro. With the firmware update all three adapters work with the Micro, but the mobile phones will only work with their respecti've adapters.
I'm not sure whether the Neeon is as straightforward as the Micro, so unless someone else has tried it you take a risk. I guess you can always buy and take it back if it doesn't work.

  • Zen Micro charge while connected to USB?

It seems that after i hook up my Zen Micro to the computer to upload songs and stuff, that all three bars on the battery icon are full. Does the player charge WHILE it is connected to the USB, or is the battery icon just messing around with me?

I would like an option to disable recharging while connected to USB. When i connect the player to USB it doesn't always mean i want to recharge it.
How does this recharging affect the batery?

  • Zen Micro Charging Opinion!

whats better for charging the zen micro: usb cord or power adapter

I have an interesting situation with my 5GB Zen Micro. If I charge it using the wall charger I get the pulsing light and it charges fine, but the backlite stays on and never turns off, even after a full charge. If I charge it via the computer I get no backlite and it charges with the pulsing light and then turns off when fully charged. I was wondering if anybody else has seen this situation. I am using the 2.20 software.

  • Creative Zen Micro Charg

I have a Zen Micro, version firmware. I am able to charge it through the USB cable connected to a computer, but it will not charge with an AC adapter. I've tried a different adapter and different battery, no luck. Any suggestions?

In your original post you did not say it was a Micro - you said simply "zen touch", which comes in either a 20 gb version or 40gb version. The Zen Micro comes in 4gb, 5gb, or 6 gb options. At any rate, if you come onto a forum looking for help, and someone tries to help you, it is generally poor behavior to respond with a snide, smart-ass comment, especially given the fact that your grammer is practically unreadable. If I were you, I would exchange your Micro for a spell-checker and a bucket-load of punctuation marks. Sheesh.

  • Will Zen Micro Charger work with Zen Vision

    Hi,
I'm wondering if the charger (AC Charger that is)i use to charge my Zen Micro 5GB will charge my Zen Vision:M ?
The Voltage is the same - 5Volts
    Any suggestions?

The USB charger does fit the USB Adapter bit on the Vision:M.
Are they different polarities or something?
I would have plugged it in(connected to the mains) If i wasn't in fear of breaking my 2 day old Vision.

  • Zen Micro charging is

I have been experiencing some strange issues regarding the Zen Micro battery charging. If I plug my Micro into my computer with the drivers installed, the screen changes to say "docked" and the battery charges just fine. However, one night I plugged it into my wife's computer which does not have the drivers installed. The icon in the upper right showed the charging icon, but after a complete night of being plugged in, the battery was still low. The same thing happens if I plug it into a car USB adapter or an AC to USB adapter. The Micro sees that it is plugged in to a power source because it powers up by itself as soon as I plug it in. It also shows the charging icon, but the battery does not actually charge. I am using the latest v series firmware. I just updated the firmware to the latest v2 series to see if that makes a difference. I'll post an update on that tomorrow. Has anyone else tried this and had the same issue?

What a pain in the ass just to charge my battery! If the Micro sees the power source as it obviously does, then why doesn't it just charge the battery with it's
So, as I see it my choices in order to charge with an external charger currently are:
) Firmware v..0 with the "lock" mode turned on
pros: v..0 has the sleep mode battery saving change
cons: You can't use the player buttons while charging, and you can't use it on a computer without the Creative drivers
    2) Firmware v2..02 with mass storage enabled
pros: Can charge while using the player buttons, and you can use it on any player with XP and WMP0
cons: v2..02 does not have sleep mode battery savings, plus it uses more storage space

  • Zen Micro - charging via 220V - USB char

    Hello!
I'm trying to charge my Zen Micro (5Gb) via 220V-usb charger (mini usb jack), but it seems that player is not charging. When I use computer usb port it charges normally.
Is it a feature, and zen can not be charged via 220v-usb device or it is a bug?
nb: charger has 5v - I'v tested it by voltmeter.
    Thank you all for help

    For v2 (MTP/PlaysForSure) firmware, you're looking for version 2.20.05.
Third-party chargers only work with the Micro in "locked charging" mode, which is only available in the ..0 and 2.20.05 firmwares (.0.02 too, but it has another power-related bug and should be upgraded anyway), or with certain workarounds used with earlier firmwares such as enabling a small removable-disk partition, which worked for me with 2..02 firmware. (I didn't have to actually enable removable-disk mode, but IIRC others did.)
Otherwise, the firmware "reads" the connection thru the USB port and refuses to charge if it isn't an officially-supported connection--that is, either a PC with the proper drivers for your firmware, or an official Creative charger. "Locked charging" turns that off; it's officially for PCs without drivers installed, but it works with third-party chargers as well.

  • Creative Zen micro charging problems......but a Mac co

Since I own a Mac. I wasn't able to upload the software 4 my Creative Zen micro. I use XNJB. I wuz using my comp. @ work to charge it, (It only charged once correctly @ home). But now it won't even charge @ work and it is completely drained. And since I was never able to upload the software, the terminology used in this forum is foreign to me.
There aren't any bars and it doesn't pulse glow.
Someone please help, I am soooooooo frustrated and would rather just take it back, but i'm over seas.

Not quite true. Creative doesn't support it, but there is 3rd party software that allow Creative players to be used on a Mac, and plenty of people who do.

  • Zen Micro Charger - for times when you aren't near a power source for day

Hi All ... now this may seem like a strange request and i'm not sure whether it would be possible but here goes..
As a traveller around the world there is many the time when i am away from a power source for a number of days maybe 5. This means i would either have to carry alot of precharged batteries around or to find another way to charge up my Micro battery/s.
With this in mind i was thinking ... could i use any other method to charge my battery (being as there is no power source available .. including a laptop) So could i build a solar panel of some description ? Could i create a charger using Ordinary Alkaline batterys ... Any suggestions?
I'll probably have to buy 5 or more batteries in the end .. but it was just a thought.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

interesting topic, other then camping, i can't see a time, for me at least, where this would be relevant, but a solar charger sounds like an interesting idea none the less. this is the time i bring along my minidisc player that uses AA batteries of which i have an infinite supply :smileyvery-happy: Other then that, i have this tire inflater that has a built in recharable 2v battery. the nice thing about it is it has a cigarette lighter type DC jack on it. i haven't tried it to charge but i'm sure if you got a DC - USB charger it could work (on a camping type expedition that is, you wouldn't want to drag it onto a train)
which brings me to another point, why is is that most portable players have to use some proprietary battery format? i know that SIZE is prolly the *biggest* reason but i just don't understand why you can't build a small player that runs on something standard like AA or AAAs. i don't mind having an extra battery around but at $40 or so per battery, there ain't no way i'm buying like 5 or 6 batteries. sheesh!

  • Zen Micro Charging Quest

When the micro stops glowing when charging does it mean its done?

    I think you'll notice:
    a. At least when it's turned on, the icon changes from the shape of a battery to the shape of an AC plug when it is fully charged. I understand that it continues to trickle charge for about 30 minutes after that, though.
    b. When the unit is turned off, it will glow when charging and the battery icon will show up. When it stops glowing, the unit also turns itself off -- and the icon disappears altogether. I haven't been in the room when it was charging to see if it turns into a plug icon before it turns itself off.

  • Alas, another Zen Micro charging quest

I searched the boards and didn't find anything quite like my problem:
When I use the AV outlet to charge my Micro, it doesn't show the little lightning bolt thingy, but the "docked" sign thingy. Anbody have any solutions?

    Is this using Creative's adapter?
It shouldn't display the docked sign, it should just show the charging icon (if necessary of course).
Have you tried removing and reseating the battery?
It's also worth making sure you have at least the .02.05 firmware.

  • Zen micro charging probl

The funniest thing just happened to me. I hooked up the charger to the micro and instead of the battery icon having a lightning symbol, it had the wrench symbol as if it were connected to my computer. Now I have to take out the battery, put it back in, and then hook it up to the charger in order for it to charge. I switched both battery and charger but failed. Any ideas?

Check you have at least the latest v firmware, and have run a disk cleanup.

  • Zen Micro Charging Prob

  • Zen Micro USB chargi

Never have I had more difficulty finding an answer to a rather simple question...
Can the Zen Micro charge via USB?
I searched the knowledge base here, and found one article that was a FAQ for the Zen Micro that indicated it would answer the issue of "USB Charging" but does not do so.
    I'll ask the question here:
Can the Zen Micro charge via USB?
If not, Creative, then why not . . . my original Nomad charges via USB as do its successors.
    Thanks
    Artie

Yes it does. I just left it plugged in last night after exhausting the battery and transferring music and this morning it had a full charge.
