Zen Xtra playback or

I recently downloaded and updated the firmware to my Zen Xtra 30gig to 2.0.03 and the driver to .30.03 and now my music only plays back in alphabetical order instead of track order. I don't get it.
Before I updated the player, my albums would play back in their correct track order and now they want to playback in alphabetical order and I can't seem to stop it. I know that the installation of the new firmware wiped the player clean and according to the details of the new firmware I can "Use the drag-and-drop method to transfer songs or files to your player through Windows Explorer" so that's what I did. I also sync'd music with Windows Media Player, double checked all my ID3 information and it all shows the songs listed correctly. When I play the music in WM 0, they play in the correct order and they used to under the old firmware. I contacted support but they were no help and I've searched the forums here and can't find a solution.
I really don't want to hear that because I updated the firmware NOW I have to use a certain software to copy music to the player. The firmware details also stated "Enjoy seamless support with any computer running Microsoft? Windows Media? Player 0 and Windows? XP - no drivers or software needed" so I will be greatly upset if I have to use something like MediaSource.
Thanks for any help!

I've tried it with and without the main charger. When i leave it on the rebuilding screen it will stay paused for about an hour and then a screen pops up saying Firmware Problem, and it just stays on that screen.

I clicked on an mp3 song I uploaded, and after about 5 seconds into the song, the song stops and flashes "playback error". Has anybody else experienced this? Help me, please?Message Edited by redcellardoor on 08-28-2005 06:46 PM

I would suggest taking those MP3 files, and re-encoding them, and then transfer it back to the player. I had a copy of "Purple Haze," and it did this at about a minute in. I got the file back from the player, and then re-encoded it, and sent it back to the player. Sometimes a computer MP3 player can get over some minor file corruption, but the player just isn't able to. Hopefully we will see better and better decoders with the next firmware release(s).

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Playback Seque Suggest

I'm suggesting a feature that I wish that my Jukebox had. There are several CD's that have tracks that lead into other tracks. I wish there was a feature that you could use to automatically play tracks back to back everytime that they are played.
I.E. Pink Floyd - The Wall. There are several songs that are better played back to back. The Beatles - Abbey Road. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland.
I have approx. 250 really good CD's on my Jukebox and I love to randomly play tracks. However, when I do, I inevitably get one of these tracks needing its companion tracks.
I would love to see this feature in future players.
You guys have done a great job with the Jukebox. I love it.Message Edited by glynnspringer on -04-2004 09:5 PM

A suggestion for you. There are 3rd party softwares that can merge/join mulitple mp3/audio files into one single mp3/audio files. You could use these softwares to merge/join the mp3 that you wanted to have it play back to back into a single mp3 file. In this way, you could enjoy the random feature of the player and also enjoy the whole mp3.

  • 2 Zen Xtra only one get "Playback Err

    Hey!
I have a kind of strange problem. Me and my sister have both a Zen xtra but when i transfer mp3s to her zen she get the "Playback Error" and when i transfer the same album to my player it works fine. The only thing that is different between the players is that she has a 60gb and i have a 30gb the Firmware (.20.08) is the same on both mp3s. So please give me some ideas about what i can try todo to fix this problem.

yeah, when she first got it i uploaded some albums to it and it worked fine. then later she looked at mine and found some more albums she wanted to have on hers so i tried to upload them and she got the "playback error" then i updated the firmware on both hers and mine because mine had a "e" version and she had the playback error i uploaded a album to hers still got playback error then i uploaded the same album to mine and it worked fine.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30GB mp3 player - Windows Vista

I no longer have the disc that came with my player and can't seem to find drivers to get my PC to recognize the player. Downloads seem to be for older operating systems maybe because the player is so old. When I try to downlod them I get errors. Not sure if I have the right drivers. Can anyone find them? I'm trying to find a way to make sure my Zen still works if I upgrade my OS to W7 (I've got the 60Gb version). You don't say which OS you are using, but I think it is relevant. Everyone seems to have a problem with Vista, and I've only found one place where they said they can get it to work with W7, using Compatibility Mode.
There is also a lot of stuff about a conflict with Windows Media Player v. I don't know if that was ever resolved, but people were advised to roll WMP back to v0.
Creative have pulled the plug on support for these machines, although you can still get the latest firmware from there. I'm reluctant to try it in case my machine crashes halfway through.
This is the text of the posting I found about W7. Good luck!
    Creative Zen Xtra
Microsoft have certainly made the compatibility mode powerful in Windows 7!
I could only get basic use from my Zen Xtra in Vista, using Real Media Player
to play tracks from the Zen Xtra, but in Windows 7 it works flawlessly.
Basically the driver for the Zen Xtra is incompatible with Windows 7. However,
if you download the XP driver and right click the installation file and select
the Troubleshoot Compatibility heading and use the recommended settings to
install the driver, then install the Creative Mediascource 5 for Vista, then
the plugin for the Zen Xtra for Mediascource (both install without compatibility
mode), you will get a warning that the driver is incompatible but ignore this and
restart the computer. I then started Mediascource software, noticed the Zen
Xtra listed, clicked on 'Playlist', and it loaded, no problem! Playback, no
problems, transfer to player, no problems!
I am NOT using the 'Play 4 Sure' firmware update either!
Also for those with the Audigy 2 or 4 sound cards, Creative have issued a
beta driver for Windows 7, I am using this without the previous distortion
that the default Windows driver gives. Everything is cool! This was my main
reason for not replacing XP as my main OS.

I have attempted this now a 3rd time, and the same exact result. I first thought was it could be that the last 0 files were corrupted (yeah, right.) Checked all 0 and playback was normal, with no errors occuring. So I attempted to just load that last 0 on their own, not with the rest, and the same thing is happening. I've called customer support and they have been absolutely no help to me whatsoever. So if anyone here can help me with my problem, or at least help me troubleshoot it, that would be great. But before you go giving me tips, this is what I have done.
    -Re-installed the software
    -Downloaded the most recent drivers
-Ran clean up on the mp3 player
    -Re-installed the firmware
    -Re-formatted the files in question

I hope you are still here Grommit.
The reason why the new Creative Software Suite will not install is because the firmware you have is not the version the suite is looking for.
If you want to install the new Suite, you will have to update to the PlaysForSure firmware (2.0.03, I believe). However, if you do this, be aware that you will also have to download and install the latest Zen Driver, Creative MediaSource, and Zen Plugin for the MediaSource (all available in the download section) - also, once you start the firmware update on the Zen Xtra, you WILL NOT be able to revert back to a previous version of the firmware, and the drivers and programs on the install CD will not function with the new player at all.
Unless you use a subscription service with DRM mp3s, or have had issues with Playback Errors in certain mp3s, there is very little immediate need to upgrade.

  • Nomad Zen Xtra - 60G - Major Issues

I bought the Zen Xtra for my husband for his b-day last April (2004). Over the summer the Zen Xtra worked well and transfer of 307 tracks of songs was successful. Then, in the fall we decided to try setting up playlists through the Creative MediaSource software. Since then we have had numerous problems with the machine. First of all, when trying to create a playlist, the Xtra froze. We've since gone through the motions of (a) upgrading all the software/firmware we could and (b) rebooted and done a disk cleanup.
Unfortunately this has NOT solved our problem. Yes - we are now able to use the Zen Xtra for listening to the tracks we already have on the machine, but everytime we connect it to the computer and try to either add new tracks, (We aren't even able to do an AudioSync! The error we get is :"Unable to read file. File may be in use, missing or corrupted". Of course this is not the case because we are able to listen to the song from the Zen Xtra.) listen to a track (through the xtra on the computer), (the error we get here is : "Unable to playback current track. The audo device may not be available or the file may be missing or corruped.") or try to create a playlist (The error here is: The operation failed. Ensure player is properly connected before trying again.")
In each of these cases, the Zen Xtra freezes up and we have to go through the whole process again just to get the stupid thing to play songs so we can listen to them. We are very disappointed that we are not able to use the Zen Xtra to its full capablities. What are we missing? How can we get it to work as it's is supposed to through the software on the computer?

Thanks Cat for the info. I've managed to get all my files from the Xtra over to my PC.
I am still experiencing the following by the Zen Xtra:
    A) if the machine is shut off for longer than a day, it takes from 25-30mins to turn on. It gets "stuck" at the EAX screen
    B) I am still unable to create a playlist on through the Media Centre. Everytime I try, it says that the Zen Xtra is not connected and then my Zen gets "stuck" forcing me to do a manual reboot of it.
I believe this to be a software problem, but that's not to say that I'm not totally disappointed that I'm unable to use my Zen to its full potential. (And manually rebooting and/or waiting for 25-30min to listen to my Zen isn't fun either.) Does this SOUND like a simple software issue or is it more? (Remember my warranty will run out soon)
If it IS a software issue is there any OTHER software out there that I would be able to use to appreciate my Zen to its fullest?
    Thanks again.J

  • 3.4 gig Free on my Zen Xtra 60gig and this wonderful firmware won't allow anymore transf

I am beginning to really hate Creative and how they choose Microsoft over their loyal customers. I cannot transfer anymore music to my ZenXtra 60 even though I have 3.4 gig free. I keep getting error messages saying library is full or I get just an error message. I bought this player to fill up 60 gig's not just under 60 gigs. Is this company for real? It took me close to 3 weeks to transfer to this player what normally would of taken up to 4 days. I HATE THIS FIRMWARE I HATE THIS FIRMWARE. Anyone know what's going on?

All the same I can't see how can this hurt to try...
Do try it and see for yourself, even send an email to support and ask them if and how can you revert to v firmware...
Do try it anyway, it can't be worse than sulking...
Either way do remember to BACK UP since a firmware reload deletes everyhting!!!

Does this mean that the "wonderful" MTP uses cluster sizes that further reduce the possible storage ammount?

    Jeremy,
Thanks for the reply. I've been using a ZEN 2.0 for over a year.... my usage averages about 6 hours a day on weekdays, usually less on weekends, and the ZEN 2.0 (combined with the Sennheiser PCX250 Noise Cancelling headphones) has provided flawless service throughout. Battery life is still very good, generally over 8 hours (no EAX, 5 sec backlight and 50% contrast), and the sound quality is great.. My music. predomiantly Black Metal, is all wma, ripped at 92kbs in WMP, playlists are generally between 500 and 500 selections, I most always use the shuffle repeat mode.
My comments regarding the case were spurred by my latest purchase of the ZEN XTRA 60GB player so I could carry more variety and quantity, I also applaud the replaceable battery feature.. 60 GB is a great fit.. I think I have just enough space left for my Zappa collection..
I tried to use the XTRA CASE but quickly found that, although it does offer improvements, I found using the player controls and peering down at it occasionally to be uncomfortable.. so I am using the ZEN XTRA in the ZEN 2.0 CASE. It's OK for the time being but as the ZEN 2.0 is a little bigger that the XTRA I'll need a better solution, my brother will likely inherit the ZEN 2.0 when I've resolved this myself for the time being.
The primary issue for me is the vertical positioning of the player on my belt.. I'm going to modify the ZEN XTRA case, remove the clip and add a Leather Belt Loop so that the player is positioned as the ZEN 2.0, longways parallel with the belt.
    Again, thanks for the reply.

  • Zen xtra sleep tim

    any thoughts. much appreciated.

    From the manual:
. From the Settings screen, Scroll Select Edit Profile.2. Scroll Select Sleep Timer.3. Select a playback time.4. Scroll Select the left arrow to exit the Profile screen.5. To enable the edited profile from the Settings screen, Scroll Select Profile. A list appears.6. Scroll Select the profile that you want.

  • Zen Xtra lockups while play

I got my Zen Xtra about 3 months ago, and within about a month and a half, it randomly started locking up during playback. I usually listen to it continuously for 6-0 hours at work or at school, and the lockups are completely random.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -David

I know this isn't the method advertised by CreativeLabs, but when my second player locked up on the EAX screen, after everything else failed, including disk cleanup, I gave the player two enormously hard "whacks" on each of it's six sides, and after a number of good hard whacks with my hard palm, it knocked itself off. When it powered back up, it rebuilt the library and was completely fine. This worked on the Rio Karma too and I do reccomend it, only because since then, I've been using my Nomad Zen without trouble continuously for two straight weeks. Wahoo!!
P.S. Always good to back up on an external hard dri've too. I now have 22 GB of music backed up on a USB external hard dri've in case of future failures. After four MP3 players dying on me, I highly suggest this to everyone as well.

  • Zen Xtra stop playb

Alright, call me daft but I just got my Zen Xtra 30GB and was wondering if its possible to actually 'stop' playback of an mp3 instead of just pausing it's Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

    wulfie wrote:
so, instead of 'stopping' playback, I can just turn it off? I guess that's something I'm not used to yet
Yes, but then when you turn it on again it will be playing at the same volume and same point in the song when you turned it off. I usually just hit pause before I turn it off so I don't turn it on to a halfway played song.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
