Zero suppression doesn't work

Hi,
We are having an issue with the zero suppression.
We have done a simple query with Material and Price in Columns, and Calmonth in rows.
We want to suppress the zeros, but it is not working if we let the Material in columns (example 1).
If we change the drill down for Material, and we put in rows, the zero suppression is working fine (example 2)
EXAMPLE 1
          Price
Material     A123     A432     B564
Calmonth
10.2010          0     15     55
EXAMPLE 2
Calmonth     Material      Price
10.2010          A432          15
          B564          55
The suppression is configured in query designer for rows, columns and structures.
This is happening in Analyzer and thru RSRT, but if we execute the query thru the web (portal) it works as expected.
What do you think it could be happening?
Thanks in advance, Federico

Hi Rakesh,
I already have a condition for a hide column with KF. Could it be the reason why it is not suppresing the column? Because if I see the overall resul there is a number, for other month there is money for Material A124, but the condition (that works perfect) makes the month doesn't show. Anyway if I put the material in rows the suppression works, but not in columns.
EXAMPLE 1
          Price
Material     A123     A432     B564
Calmonth
10.2010          0     15     55
Overall          10     25     55
EXAMPLE 2
Calmonth     Material      Price
10.2010          A432          15
          B564          55

    This is an interesting little situation. I believe you to be correct but it goes much deeper than that. When I tie RBI to ground it not only lights up all the segments, but it will not let the number selected be displayed. If I tie BI/RBO to ground it blanks the display and nothing is diplayed. I have tried everything I can think of to get the zero not to display while at the same time getting the selected number to show up. I have not been able to do this. Therefore your statement is correct that it not working properly. This will have to be one for NI to look at and see what they may have up their sleeve to get this to work correctly.
    I never really noticed this as usually the zero never bothered me when doing my counting circuits. Thanks for bringing this to the forum's attention.

  • Zero Suppression Not working in Bex Query with Formula Variable

    Hi Friends,
    I have a peculiar issue here. We upgraded from 3.5 to 7.0 recently. Some of our Bex queries have been behaving abnormally after this. In these queeries,
    we have some key figures which use formula variables (ready for input and mandatory) in 3.5. User can enter either 1 or 0. The actual key figure is multiplied to the formula variable so, the entire column gets the actual key figure value if the user enters a value '1' and the gets the value 0 if the user enters '0' in the formula variables. Zero suppression is activated on the rows and columns and this report. This technique was used successfully to show/hide a column.
    After upgrade, the same query works but, the zero suppression is not working. When the user enters a value of '0' in these formula variables, all the entries in the column for the key figure are displayed as 0 but the column is still displayed. It is like the zero suppression setting is not active at all.
    I created one of those queries in Bex 7.0 to see if that works but, the issue still exits. Have anyone come across this kind of a scenario? Please get back to me if anyone has any idea on this situation.
    Thanks and Regards

    Which SP level are you at in BI 7? There is an OSS Note that would need to be applied if you're on lower than SP10. That note is:

  • BI7 - Zero suppression w/ more than 1 drill down/accross

    Hi,
    When using structures & drill downs/across, the zero suppression does not work as expected:
    Eg. Assets Liabilities & Income statement are 3 nodes of a Group account structure, G/L account is drilled down while profit center is drilled across.
    ___________________________________________Profit Center 1__Profit Center 2____Total
    A -Assets (Group account structure node)
                GL Account A1___________________________________10_____________15__________25
                GL Account A2                                                    5                      5                10
                GL Account L1                                                     0                      0                 0
                GL Account L2                                                     0                      0                 0
                GL Account I3                                                      0                      0                 0
                GL Account I4                                                      0                      0                 0

                GL Account I4                                                      0                      0                 0
    L -Income Statement node (Group account structure node)
                GL Account A1                                                    0                      0                 0
                GL Account A2                                                    0                      0                 0

                GL Account I4                                                     42                     3                 45
    In our case the desired displayed result shall be:
                                                                                    Profit Center 1   Profit Center 2     Total
    A -Assets (Group account structure node)
                GL Account A1                                                   10                     15               25
                GL Account A2                                                    5                      5                10
    L -Liabilities node (Group account structure node)
                GL Account L1                                                     1                      2                 3
                GL Account L2                                                    25                     5                30
    L -Income Statement node (Group account structure node)
                GL Account I3                                                      5                      7                12
                GL Account I4                                                     42                     3                 45
    I would be gratefull if you could advise for a solution (OSS note or other) knowing that:
    Zero suppression is active on the structure
    Zero suppression is active on rows & columns on the report
    If only one drill is active, the suppression works.
    Many thanks

    Hello Experts,
    I have an issue in Bex,
    For ex i have a value (-12345) but i want it to be displayed as (12345) so I Multiplied it with (-1),This works fine.
    Now the issue is if i have the value as (0) and then (-1 * 0)= 0.0, this I want to get zero suppressed but this does not happen and the row displays as (0.0)
    Dont know why its happening
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Karan,
    If you want to supress zeros Try this method.go to conditions tab-rt clk and select new-Then in keyfigures select any keyfigure and operator NE 0 and select ok.
    Hope it works.

  • Calculate Results As Average of Detailed Values That Are Not Zero... with hiearchies doesn't work

    Hi all,
    For the key figures, the option of "Calculate Results As Average of Detailed Values That Are Not Zero, Null, or Error" works fine for characteristics drilldown without hierarchies, but with hierarchies it simply doesn't work; instead of calculate the overall result as average, the system calculates it as SUM. It works like the option "Nothing Defined" where the results provided by the analytic engine are displayed. No local calculation takes place.
    How can I do to display the overall result of hierarchical drilldown of a characteristic as an average?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Abraham

    It is usually best to just keep it as simple as possible.  What do you think the code in the OR Array Elements does?  I imagine it is just a simple FOR loop with a variable to keep the latest OR.  So I would do what GerdW just showed with the FOR loop.

  • Measure Filtering in Universe Linked to Bex for zero suppression

    Hi All,
    I've a BO explorer(polestar) report linked to a universe and connected to a Bex report.
    Suppress Zeros option on BEX did not effect Universe.
    I need to suppress zeros by filtering a measure in Universe. Can you please help me solving this?
    The need is ,BO Explorer report shows averages according to Retail Location but the measure ( aggregation level is set to average in Universe) shows wrong number as it takes the records equal to zero.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ozan Eroglu

    It doesn't work if you have retail location(plant) in your report, universe takes all the records including zeros.
    Thanks anyway, any other idea??

  • What to do when your program doesn't work.

    A huge number of posts here seem to relate to code that has been written (one presumes by the poster), but which doesn't work.
    I get the impression that people don't know what to do next.
    It's really not that difficult. When you're writing your program you constantly have in mind what you expect will happen as a result of each bit of code that you put.
    If at the end of the day, the program as a whole doesn't behave as you expected, then somewhere in there there must be a point at which the program starts doing something that doesn't correspond to what you anticipated. So, you add some System.err.println statements to test your beliefs.
    Consider this program that tests whether a number is prime.
    public class Test
        public static void main(String args[])
            // Get the number to test.
            int number = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
            // Try each possible factor.
            int factor;
            for(factor = 2; factor < number; factor++)
                // See whether it is really a factor.
                if(number / factor == 0)
                    break;
            if(factor == number)
                System.out.println("Number is not prime.");
            else
                System.out.println("Number is prime.");
    }Straight forward enough, but it doesn't actually work :( It seems to say that every number is not prime. (Actually, not quite true, but I didn't test it that carefully, since it didn't work).
    Now, I could scrutinise it for errors, and then, having failed to find the problem, I could post it here. But let's suppose I'm too proud for that.
    What might be going wrong. Well, how sure am I that I'm even managing to capture the number of interest, number. Let's put in a System.err.println() to test that.
    Is the program in fact trying the factors I expect? Put in System.err.println() for that.
    Is the program correctly determining whether a number is a factor? Need another System.err.prinln (or two) for that.
    public class Test
        public static void main(String args[])
            // Get the number to test.
            int number = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
            System.err.println("Number to check is " + number);
            // Try each possible factor.
            int factor;
            for(factor = 2; factor < number; factor++)
                System.err.println("Trying factor " + factor);
                // See whether it is really a factor.
                if(number / factor == 0)
                    System.err.println(factor + " is a factor.");
                    break;
                System.err.println(factor + " is not a factor.");
            if(factor == number)
                System.out.println("Number is not prime.");
            else
                System.out.println("Number is prime.");
    }Let's try with on the number 6.
    The output is:
    Number to check is 6
    Trying factor 2
    2 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 3
    3 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 4
    4 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 5
    5 is not a factor.
    Number is not prime.
    Whoah! That's not right. Clearly, the problem is that it's not correctly deciding whether a number is a factor. Well, we know exactly where that test is done. It's this statement:
                if(number / factor == 0)Hmm.... let's try 6 / 3, 'cos 3 is a factor.
    6 / 3 = 2.
    But that's not zero. What the.... Oh - I see, it should have been number % factor.
    Ok - let's fix that, and run it again.
    Now the output is:
    Number to check is 6
    Trying factor 2
    2 is a factor.
    Number is prime.
    Not the right answer, but at least it's now figured out that 2 is a factor of 6. Let's try a different number.
    Number to check is 9
    Trying factor 2
    2 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 3
    3 is a factor.
    Number is prime.
    Again, got the right factor, but still the wrong answer. Let's try a prime:
    Number to check is 7
    Trying factor 2
    2 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 3
    3 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 4
    4 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 5
    5 is not a factor.
    Trying factor 6
    6 is not a factor.
    Number is not prime.
    Aagh! Obvious - the final test is the wrong way round. Just fix that, remove that System.err.println()s and we're done.
    Sylvia.

    Consider this program that tests whether a number is
    prime.
    [attempt to divide by each integer from 2 to n-1]At risk of lowering the signal to noise ratio, I
    should point out that the algorithm given is just
    about the worst possible.
    I know that the point was to illustrate debugging
    and not good prime test algorithms, and I disagree
    with the correspondent who thought the post was
    condescending.
    Anyway, the java libraries have good prime testing
    methods based on advanced number theory research that the
    non-specialist is unlikely to know. Looking at the java
    libraries first is always a good idea.
    Even with the naive approach, dramatic improvements
    are possible.
    First, only try putative divisors up to the square root
    of the number. For 999997 this is about 1000 times faster.
    Next only try dividing by prime numbers. This is about
    7 times faster again. The snag, of course, is to find the
    prime numbers up to 1000, so there might not be much
    advantage unless you already have such a list. The sieve
    of Erastosthenes could be used. This involves 31 passes
    through an array of 1000 booleans and might allow an
    improvement in speed at the expense of space.
    Sorry if I've added too much noise :-)

  • [SOLVED]Custom DSDT not loading - OEM battery doesn't work - Sony Vaio

    EDITING ORIGINAL POST TO POST SOLUTION so I don't do a massive bump
    Installed windows and ran the BIOS flasher that came with the battery. Didn't work until I changed a line in the plaintext configuration file (config.ini or something) it comes with. Changed "Capacity: 20" to "Capacity: -10". This changed the battery charge requirement from 20% to negative ten percent (any negative number will do), allowing the program to run and flash the BIOS. Didn't realize I could do that, but it fixed  the problem 100%.
    #### BEGIN ORIGINAL POST: ################################
    Hey guys,
    I'm a bit of a linux noob, but I've spent many hours this week trying to fix this issue on my own and have learned a lot about making custom kernels, hardware stuff, ACPI, and ABS. However, nothing I've done has worked and I've hit a wall. For reference, I'm on a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ4000 with linux-3.0 base kernel, gnome3/gdm. The battery is made in china and doesn't list a manufacturer, just model number BPS8, 52000mAh.
    [Backstory]
    So I recently got an OEM battery to replace the broken original, which hasn't worked since before I installed arch (though it worked with an Arch install I did a couple years ago). When I first plugged it in, the gnome battery symbol popped up listing the battery at 0% with an exclamation icon. I unplugged from AC power and the laptop still ran, but the battery monitor just said it was at 0% and 'Estimating' remaining time. I figured this was a glitch with gnome or just because it was this battery's first cycle so I let it run down until it hard-crashed. Then I plugged back into AC and tried to turn on the computer, but it wouldn't do anything until I removed the battery.
    Looking into the problem I discovered this was due to the ACPI firmware table DSDT being compiled for Windows, which has, shall we say, fewer restrictions on sanity than the Intel ASL compiler used for UNIX systems. Sure enough I extracted /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/DSDT to find that its section about the battery contained the entry 'Zero' for Battery Technology, which translates to "non-rechargeable", rather than 'One', which makes it chargeable. acpitool confirmed this; my system thought the battery was non-rechargeable and was constantly discharging it. Needless to say I've only been putting it in temporarily to test solutions since.
    [/backstory]
    [tl;dr] DSDT firmware contains malformed battery description, now I can't get my system to run with a custom DSDT. [/tl;dr]
    Attempted solutions:
    [1]
    Extract, modify, recompile DSDT and include it with the kernel compilation .config options
    CONIFG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT=y
    CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_FILE="/usr/src/custom_dsdt.hex
    CONIFG_STANDALONE=n
    as suggested here, a page linked to by the arch wiki page on DSDT.
    I followed the instructions but no matter what this has generated errors during the kernel compilation, sometimes due to every line containing unexpected \231 (or other numbers) characters, sometimes finding some error in the DSDT file and then claiming that the driver it was compiling (ol.c somewhere in the drivers/acpi section I believe) had references to undefined functions all over the place. I CANNOT compile with a custom DSDT specified.
    [2]
    Place recompiled DSDT in /lib/initcpio/custom.dsdt and add 'dsdt' to the HOOKS in mkinitcpio (and rebuild the initramfs-linux-*.img, of course). Another version of this included recompiling the kernel with CONFIG_STANDALONE disabled.
    In neither of these situations has the running DSDT ever been anything but the BIOS-supplied one and not once has the battery shown any different behavior.
    acpitool and $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info have consistently claimed the information specified in the BIOS-supplied DSDT; the battery is non-rechargeable and is discharging at an unknown rate. Sometimes acpi will even report that the battery has zero capacity.
    The arch wiki does say mkinitcpio doesn't support the dsdt hook as of 2.6.30, but [1] didn't work either and mkinitcpio -H dsdt still told me to try this so I did.
    [3]
    The final solution I have tried has been to do [2] but to recompile the kernel with the legacy support for battery and ac adapter stuff disabled. I tried this because it was suggested in the kernel.log;
    Sep  13 11:51:03 localhost kernel: [   11.740059] ACPI: Deprecated procfs I/F for AC is loaded, please retry with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER cleared
    Sep  13 11:51:03 localhost kernel: [   11.753434] ACPI: AC Adapter [ADP1] (on-line)
    The corresponding line now reads
    ACPI: AC Adapter [ADP1] (on-line)
    (The same goes for the battery BAT0)
    but all this does is remove the battery/ and adp1/ folders from /proc/acpi/ and break acpitool functionality. The log still doesn't mention the dsdt hook, either.
    [4]
    The old way to do this was to use the acpi-dsdt-initrd-patch-* patch, but that hasn't been updated for modern kernels, presumably because of the new "functionality" from mkiniticpio. The current kernel .config doesn't include any options for ACPI initrd/initramfs support or reading a DSDT from initramfs, which is the functionality provided by this patch.
    This covers all the methods I've been able to find on the internet and I'm at a loss for what to do. Am I doing something wrong in [1]? Under what conditions will the compiler fail/succeed with a CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_FILE?
    When I recompile I fix the 'Zero' definition and a couple compiler errors and warnings. The errors come from section length definitions, which read as 0x00000000 rather than the appropriate max-min value so I fix those, and the warnings come from _T_* methods belonging to the compiler, so I refactor the code to remove the initial underscores. The last warning comes from an isolated And statement that's within brackets (compiler complains it doesn't do anything), but if I remove that the compiler fails hard.
    Thanks to anyone who's read this far.  Please let me know if you have any ideas how to get my system to use a customized DSDT.

    Thanks for the offer, Radioactive man However, I'm actually compiling a customized kernel with the linux-ck and -sony patches, so your packages won't help. (The custom kernel works fine and I've tested this battery behavior on the the regular, -ck, and -sony kernels as well)
    Anyway, so I tried another compile with
    CONFIG_PREVENT_FIRMWARE_BUILD=n in addition to the options listed in [1] and that time it compiled.
    Unfortunately it still didn't load the DSDT!
    I did catch a quick little error message that turned up in kernel.log though;
    /var/log/kernel.log:Sep 15 11:50:24 localhost kernel: [    0.925780] acerhdf: unknown (unsupported) BIOS version Sony Corporation/VGN-FZ4000E/R2110J7, please report, aborting!
    acerhdf is a fan controller module for the Aspire One, and perhaps I left that in the kernel config and it's preventing the custom DSDT from loading, even though the acerhdf module never gets loaded itself, nor is it in my rc.conf or anything else... If that was the cause of all this, I'm gonna be angry...
    Anyway, this message does not appear with my latest kernel build because I took off the custom DSDT option, hoping to be able to use ACPI_CUSTOM_METHOD=y, which supposedly allows one to inject a custom AML method into a debug fs. It wouldn't have worked anyway, as it doesn't let you modify Device sections, but even with a dummy method insertion it didn't give my root modification privileges as it was supposed to...
    Will try recompiling AGAIN with this CONFIG_ACERHDF=n (it's simply 'not set' in my current .config), while also enabling the custom kernel etc. If this doesn't work I have no idea what I'll do.
    Anyway, thanks for your help and time:

  • Lirc doesn't work (Lifeview FlyVideo 98FM LR50) SOLVED

    Hi.  (Solution below).
    I've a problem with lirc. My card used to work with exactly the same configuration for years (first on Slack, then Ubuntu).
    That's what I've done (btw it's my first day with Arch, and I'm impressed):
    cp /usr/share/lirc/remotes/life-view/lircd.conf.flyvideo /etc/lircd.conf
    [root@greblushq greblus]# uname -r
    2.6.19-ARCH
    [root@greblushq greblus]# pacman -Q | grep lirc
    lirc 0.8.0.20061009-2
    lirc-utils 0.8.0.20061009-2
    i'm loading the bttv module this way:
    modprobe bttv card=56 radio=1 pll=1
    (I've added bttv lirc_dev lirc_gpio to the rc.conf MODULES  and lircd to DAEMONS, also options bttv card=56 radio=1 pll=1 went to /etc/modprobe.conf, but doing this manually should be the same)
    then
    modprobe lirc_dev
    modprobe lirc_gpio
    [root@greblushq greblus]# /etc/rc.d/lircd start
    :: Starting LIRC Daemon                                      [DONE]
    now, when i start irexec (as a normal user or root) and then  irw, it's starting, but irw doesn't show buttons i press and it's... not working.
    One thing that bothers me is the lack of lifevideo among the drivers supported by lircd (lircd --drivers=help).
    I was trying to recompile it with configure --with-driver=flyvideo and lirc builds fine, but I'm unable to build lirc-utils (no linux.h header). What's strange they're compiled --with-driver=all so flyvideo should be compiled-in.
    What should I do? Were there any changes I'm simply not aware of, or I'm doing something wrong?
    ---SOLVED---
    Finally I have it working.
    Something must have changed in the recent kernels. My card isn't automatically detected when loading bttv module (and never was), so I was loading the module as above, with card=56 modprobe option. It was working, but recently (2.6.19) mode2 -d /dev/lirc0 showed that there was nothing going on when buttons were pressed.
    I started fiddling with different card ids and with card=35 mode2 outputed some keycodes. That was it.
    All I had to do, was to generate a new lircd.conf using irrecord. Now it works even better than before (i can press buttons when the remote is in an arbitrary position).
    lspci says it's 01:0a.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11), the card is a flyvideo 98 with fm tuner.
    Now i've a perfectly working Arch installation (lirc was the last thing missing from my previous distro).
    Automatically generated lircd.conf file:

    Did you try to build it directly from the source from the lirc site? or did you recompile it with abs? abs should normally not give any problem.
    I recommend srcpac to make updates easy.
    This is really neat .
    Here's what I've done:
    1. first, to be absolutely sure i've what i need I ran abs to get the build system files.
    2. installed srcpac, then added:
    conf_lirc=('#--with-driver=all#--with-driver=flyvideo#')
    conf_lircXutils=('#--with-driver=all#--with-driver=flyvideo#')
    to the srcpac.conf, srcpac -So shows that the substitutions are correct.
    srcpac -Sb lirc went fine, but lirc-utils failed:
    /var/abs/extra/system/lirc-utils/src/lirc/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.c:35:26: error: linux/config.h: No such file or directory
    make[5]: *** [/var/abs/extra/system/lirc-utils/src/lirc/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.o] Error 1
    I found on Google that linux/config.h should be replaced by linux/autoconf.h, after this change it builds, but still lircd --driver=help shows only the default driver (no flyvideo) and it doesn't work.

  • 'Find' function doesn't work on some HP documents

    For some pdf doc's I downloaded from HP, if I copy some characters from the text and then paste them into the Find box, the characters show up as hieroglyphs (mostly squares) in the Find box. And then actually executing the Find using those characters doesn't work, because it can't find the very word that I copied them from! On top of that, if I manually type a word into the Find box (showing normal letters), it won't find it even though I can see it within the text on the page showing on the screen. Very strange! In documents other than these old HP documents, the Find function works fine.
    I looked into the document properties (menu: File >> Properties >> Fonts) and see that there are 9 fonts that have names I have never heard of before, and those fonts say "(Embedded Subset)" after the font name and "Encoding: Custom" in the font descriptions. There were a few normal fonts listed before these for that document as well.
    Anyone have any idea what is going on?
    - Brad

    It's hard to say without seeing the actual, source content, but given what you are describing, I would venture a guess that the source content is of too poor a quality to OCR reliably and accurately.  To test this theory, after running OCR, identify a term that you can confirm is present, but that the search feature cannot identify.  Then, copy and paste that term into Word or Notepad.  What I expect you will note is that a "0" (zero) has been identified as an "8," and other things of that nature.  OCR processing is garbage in, garbage out, so the source always has to be considered.  Repeat this process across the document to see if experience similar results.
    You don't describe how exactly you are transferring the microfilm "images" to PDF, so it's difficult to say if that process is at issue or could be improved.  I suspect that's contributing to the problem, though.
    Finally, with regard to the degraded image quality, you want to make sure you are selecting "Searchable Image (Exact)" from the OCR dialogue.  ClearScan or any type of downsampling will likely cause or contribute to the type of issue you are describing.  In a situation with low-quality source material, you would not want to use these other options.
    Hope that helps!
